GPS service stops after a random time - Nvidia Tegra Note 7

I have a P1640 TN7 and used it as my sat-nav device while I was in the UK the past few weeks. I used co-pilot as the offline software, which worked wonders, but the GPS kept dropping anywhere between 15mins and 60 minutes. Sometimes I could cycle location services off/on and resume the sat-nav, but most other times I had to reboot the tablet.
I changed all settings, but the GPS still dropped after a short time. It wasn't just co-pilot that lost GPS, but gps-status and G-maps also couldn't pickup a location until it was rebooted. I recently re-installed 4.4.2 stock just before the holiday.
Any ideas as to why GPS service decided to freeze up?

I have the same problem, GPS is randomly dropping signal and device cant be found. Rooted tablet.

[Q] GPS lock issues?

Anyone else having issues getting a GPS lock? I'm sitting inside a building but my Hero would always lock here, especially after resetting the AGPS data with GPS Status program. Tried that with the Shift, and still not getting a lock even after a minute. Not sure what else to try.
Typically I keep mine turned off, but I just turned mine on and went to Maps and it locks my location in.
mine took a little while to initialize (indoors) but it locked in within 30 seconds.
No issues here. Inside my GFs apartment it locks very quick and is probably about 5-10 feet off according to google maps. My moments GPS never locked or worked so I'm extremely happy with the GPS quality on this phone.
The first lock took around a minute to get. Now it gets a solid lock in just a few seconds, if that.
A little off. Not as bad as my gfs Samsung Instinct, but it does often have me a few hundred meters from my actual location.

Me and my girlfriend are having constant problems with the gps lock. Seems to work when it wants and disconnects randomly.

GPS is spotty for me as well. GPS Status won't even get it working for me when it won't work.
When it does work it is not as accurate as my Heroc was. Hopefully this gets some love in any updates.
GPS is great for me. The only issue I've run into is that when I go from Maps to Navigation, my SD card gets mounted as read-only for some reason.
I know a couple of days ago I tried to use my Google Maps/GPS and it couldn't get a lock on me. It was like going crazy or something. However, it was snowing and kinda foggy so maybe that had something to do with it. It worked the next day though when the sky was clear.
No gps lock on my end either. Also tried the gps status clear....nothing so far
EDIT: just opened maps for about a minute or so and it locked finally. Closed maps then opened again, locked within seconds.
Bumping this thread: I have issues with getting a GPS lock. If I open Google Maps, I'll never get a lock (at least not before the phone goes to sleep - 60 seconds). I open up GPS test, which I downloaded from the market. It gets one satellite to lock right away. Sometimes two. Then it takes forever to get 3-4 more (at least 60 seconds). I can then go into google maps, and it will get a lock within 15-20 seconds. But if I let the phone go to sleep, and open up maps again, I don't get a lock, unless I do the GPS test. And sometimes that doesn't even work. I've done the GPS Clear thing, via the epst codes (##GPSCLRX#), and that doesn't seem to do anything. I'm running the MikShiftG 1.1 rom. I'm going to make a nandroid backup, and see if that happens on a stock 2.3.3 rooted rom.

[Q] [Samsung i9506] GPS bug - drops out regularly in morning

I have a strange bug on my Samsung Galaxy S4 i9506 and am hoping other people here have experienced and are able to solve the following:
I use my phone extensively for navigation whilst driving. I use Sygic as my sat nav app.
I have noticed that the location on the navigation app has been freezing at the location for a period of 2-10 minutes and then regains location for a minute before freezing at the last location again. This seems to happen every morning on my morning commute to work, however 95% of the time it works flawlessly on my return trip home!
I have tried using other nav apps such as Navigon and even Google Maps to isolate the nav app as the problem but they also seen to experience the problem. GPS Toolbox also loses location and regains when used.
I have found that if I exit my nav app and then re-enter it, the location appears to update for up to a minute before losing gps connectivity again!
I am running stock Android 4.4.2, Baseband version: I9506XXUCNF3, build number: KOT49H.I9506XXUCNH4. Phone is NOT rooted.
I am based in Brisbane, Australia if is a location-based issue?
I have even tried doing a factory-reset and reinstalled only the apps I use and the problem still appears!
I would really appreciate it if anyone could help here with useful suggestions and solutions as this has really been frustrating me for the past couple of months and searching for help!

[Q] GPS doesn't work while driving in Waze or Google Maps

Hello I'm having a problem with my GPS signal. I followed this guide to fix it but still have the problem: http://androidforums.com/threads/gps-fix-dummies-guide.761247/
I have NO PROBLEM getting my accurate location within 1-5 seconds when sharing location on whatsapp/telegram or other apps. Even opening Google Maps or Waze, they also detect my location very very fast. I'm taking less than 5 seconds and it's very accurate.
The problem comes when I try to NAVIGATE with Waze or Google Maps. This is when I'm outdoors in my car of course. My phone doesn't get a GPS signal. It takes a very very long time, sometimes 10 minutes to get a lock on. The funny thing is that when I followed this guide and I put the airplane mode on, the apps got a lockon on the GPS, but as soon as the airplane mode was off they lost GPS signal and had a problem locking on.
I have the GPS TOOL app installed and outside I get a lockon of about 10-15 satellites of 22 but it doesn't happen instantly. It takes from 10 to 60 seconds to get a lockon. But that is not even the problem. I could live with that, but the real issue is that the signal comes and goes. So sometimes the apps have a lockon for 1 minute and then they lose it for 3 minutes and again and again.
When I'm indoors it takes about 30 minutes to get a lockon on but I get from 1 to up to 6 satellites even though my apartment is the one on the top. There are no other apartments above it so I should have a bit more of a chance to get a signal. But it barely connects and sometimes never. The issue is the same. It may connect sometimes but it loses signal. 1 minute it remains connected and them loses it for 5 minutes and so on.
I attached some screenshots of how waze never has a GPS connection (unless I turn airplane mode on. I'll test this later on the road trying to get some place and I'll update if this really makes the GPS lockon but it's not ideal to have to use airplane mode to get a lock on GPS but not have internet for anyethign else). I have also attached the specifications of my phone. I hope you can help me out. It's a samsung galaxy s5 mini. And mainly I want to know if this could be because of the KITKAT firmware because I have read that many phones have GPS problems now, or if this could actually be a problem with my phone. I hope not becuase it's a new phone. I have one month with it and I'm in Mexico.
Thanks!!
Sorry, this forum covers all the standard size S5s but not the S5 mini. Try your question in http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5-mini as there will be more people with the same device as you there.

GPS issue - satellites in use, but no position

Hi everybody.
I have SM-N9005 phone, currently running Temasek V16.0.
My GPS usually works fine, however sometimes it finds the satellites and uses them but doesn't get GPS fix for a long time (actually - never, as far as my patience go, which was about 15 minutes). After rebooting the phone the GPS fix is almost instant, with no problem.
So, what can cause GPS to be unable to get a fix, while it can use the satellites. Seems to be software related as reboot makes it fine. It is not ROM related, cause I've had it on stock as well as custom ROMs. Anybody can think of a fix that doesn't require me to reboot?
No, I have given up on GPS of this phone, Snapdragon variant. As you said, rebooting the phone makes the GPS lock fast/ instant, but for normal usage sometimes GPS just won't lock. All I can gather from my personal experience is its about Assisted GPS. When you are restarting your phone the AGPS data is being downloaded automatically, that is how Android works anyway, and that's probably why the phone gets a super fast lock after a reboot. Use app like GPS Status or something to have the phone download AGPS data at short interval, see if that helps in anything or not.
However I have never had any problems when I am outside, the GPS locks within 30-45 seconds no matter what, its the inside problems which used to bug me, but as I said, I have given up.
Hm, I've never seen such a problem. I use my N9005 for travelling across Europe quite often, and it usually locks within 10 seconds to 2 minutes, depending on the location and the number of satellites.
Aside from the occasional glitch, of course. Like going backwards or sideways. :silly:
And it seems to think I'm somewhere off the coast of Norway right now. That one creeps me out quite a bit...
The thing is that when you reboot, it uses all available connections to pinpoint your location. Including your mobile data. (And WiFi if available.) So if you turn on location services right after rebooting, your approximate location is still in the cache.
Triangulation Over Data works within seconds, as opposed to the time required to lock on to the satellites in orbit when it is only allowed to use GPS. If you turn on the higher location modes, it locks much quicker. You can turn it back to GPS once your location has been established.

I am talking about GPS only. I use GPS Status app for a long long time (with my previous Android devices as well), so I can monitor the GPS fix. After reboot I get GPS position almost instant or sometimes I need to go into GPS status app and re-download A-GPS data (which is max 1h old, because of my settings) and then I get my fix.
When my problem occurs NOTHING (short from reboot) can get it to get a fix. I tried deleting and downloading A-GPS data, turning location on and off and from high precision to power saving - it just won't work. Of course I'll get postition from WiFi or cell towers, but GPS just won't fix, even with 12 satellites in use, after waiting over 15 minutes (which should be more then enough, cause whole GPS almanach is transmitted over 12,5 minutes and I get it from A-GPS anyway).
I would start by wiping the phone installing stock rom and testing . Still a problem then its hardware .

Have you experienced GPS lock issues?

I've found that sometimes I can't get a GPS lock and have to restart the phone to get one. It makes using Waze a pain.
No.
Sent from my XT1575 using XDA Free mobile app
I'm having the same issue. Annoying.
Never had any issues. In fact this is the first phone in a while that does a pretty decent job of it
on XT1575
checking my gps using "gps status" app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cochibo.gpsstatus&hl=en)
GPS is on, able to see 20 satellites. I have a lock on 0 / 20.
No GPS locked quickly
You been outside or inside house?
Outside
I've had to toggle from the settings to get it to work without rebooting.

I've never had an issue with my GPS. You should go to settings> location and see if you phone is in high accuracy mode. Both my moto X's came with battery save mode as the default.
Tried.
I've also factory restored. I will try again this evening.

It was already there. I use Waze every day. Sometimes it won't lock. I have to toggle GPS to get it to work again.
I think it might be a Waze problem. When it happens to me I just close Waze, start GPS Status app, and restart Waze with both running, and it locks right away. No other apps have this problem. Waze still hasn't fixed the semi-random shutdowns that it does in the past 2 years of use, so I don't expect a fix for this GPS problem either.
I never had the problem with my 1+1. It was always immediate. Waze hasn't shut down on me with either phone.
Random GPS lost fix during Waze navigation - suddenly Waze reports GPS lost fix - only happened to my with my Sony Xperia Z3. It happens when I put the phone on my lap - I guess putting it in a mount close to the windshield will improve this issue.
Still very disappointing as OPO, Meizu and other cheap chines phones never gave me this issue.
GPS lost
I'm experiencing the same issues since the beginning. It happens in all GPS applications. Not only in Waze.
I'm using Endomondo to track my runs. I have gaps of several kilometers. Sometimes, the lock won't come on without switching the GPS off and on.
The same issue for Pokemon Go.
I returned my phone and they replaced the mainboard.
That didn't fix the problem!
Did anyone fixed the problem?
I frequently get a message in Waze about no GPS. Typically if I kill Waze and restart then I get the GPS signal.
I only see GPS problems in Waze.
I got this all the time in Dirty Unicorns 10.6, when I switched ROM's I had no more issues.
I'm still on stock image. Not rooted yet.
I applied
Code:
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
which is suggested for Moto X Play (http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-play/help/gps-issues-x-play-t3248283) and Moto G (http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...-gps-custom-rom-backup-special-t2909768/page3).
Simioni (post 15 http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-play/help/gps-issues-x-play-t3248283/page2) suggests it's related to 3G connection.
I will do some trials.
If your rooted try FasterGPS, if not GPS Status & Toolbox can update aGPS info... Might help too.
I went for another run today and the part that was missing was now tracked perfect.
"Erase modemst" seems to fix my problem.
