I just recently upgraded to the Droid Turbo from my M8 (I also own a Moto X 2014 but i cracked the screen the day before i upgraded, hence the update) hated the M8, dont like sense at all but loved the android 5 on both but was unhappy with cameras. now i really like the look and feel of the turbo, i got the newer ones silver/gray ballistic nylon with blue and the feeling is just awesome. But, I'm wondering if i may have made a mistake. i know the turbo was still running 4.4 before i got it. and i firmly believe it will scream when they update it to 5.1 but should i wait and see or get Moto x fixed im looking for suggestions.
I don't find 5.1 noticeably faster on any of my other devices, but each to their own.
The software will change. Though, realistically, all the features are the same. But, you can't "update" the hardware and battery. Stick with what you have. In a few weeks, you'll have your cake and can eat it too.
Funny. I'm actually thinking about going back to the M8 because I really like Sense and the phone's flashability.

To be honest with the hopeless update time of the turbo I think you should switch back. Just know that the camera on the M8 is much worse than the turbo

I think a lot of reviewers had their judgment clouded by the fact that it's only 4mp. The image quality is perfectly good in a lot of different lighting conditions.

Yeah, but I rarely ever use the front camera, so that's not a big deal. My biggest gripe with the Turbo's camera is the horrible shutter lag of the main camera. It's by far the slowest camera I've used on a smartphone in the last few years.

Perhaps the ever elusive lollipop will fix it. This is, if it doesn't get dropped. I'm honestly feeling pessimistic about the whole thing. It uses the same sensor as the Z3,but Motorola's crime against photography image processing mucks it up. Rather disappointing.

Yeah, I'm hoping it improves with Lollipop, whenever the hell that ends up happening. You're right about their image processing - there's a TON of artificial oversharpening that happens in videos especially. I'm also not a fan of Moto's camera app, whereas HTC's app is great and keeps improving.

I'd wait. Even if you end up wanting to switch, the Moto X 2015 edition is coming out, so it's a little premature, I think, to switch to last year's X.

When the Vibrant gets down to around 15%, stock apps like the camera will discontinue to work. Now I think that's nice of Sammy to consider we'd like to save our battery but I'd like the choice. Sometimes I might just be in the situation where I need to take a picture at that time. So does anyone have an idea if we can get around this some how?

I'm soo sick of these manufacturers trying to grow a brain and screwing up a perfectly good OS!! first motoblur and now this samsung crap. Cyanogen and the rest can't come soon enough. This is almost enough to make me regret not dumping t-mobile and getting the evo like I planned. So far the only real saving grace of this phone has been swype and divx playback.

So guys after a lot of days testing and after i have installed some Apps and using heavy multitasking i must say this GS III has limits on heavy usage.
The reason is the limit of RAM.. yes 1 GB still is not good as we could think..if you are going to install big apps and big games.
I have found this using the web browser with some flashplayer videos without using full screen just the window.. after few minutes the video has stopped playing just listen to the audio..and the gsIII start becoming hot ..sometimes it even crashed and came back to homescreen realoading widget and so on...and i'm not using TouchWiz Natur UX (heavy launcher on usage of RAM) but the lighter and faster Nova Launcher.. i will post some screens and info to warn of this problem i found on GS III
Those are apps installed

Wait, you mentioned installed big games or apps posing a problem for 1gig o ram but then you switch topics to flash videos in the browser? Are these heavy apps running in the background as well at the same time?

Same experience here. Flash vids freezing, black screen, briwsing quiting to home screen, music player quiting in background, longerwebpages not loading fully and the dreaded homescreen restarts. The experience comes up short compared to last years sgs2 and note on gingerbread.
It sounds more like Flash player is the problem or possibly the browser. Try another browser.
Well that doesn't sound promising. Seems like the phone works wonderful at first, but degrades quickly

You guys just figure this out now? No offence intended but only 1GB of ram was obvious to me that this issue was going to occur. Of the 1GB 1/3 is taken for the system and an almost another 1/3 by the video card your then left with barley over a 3rd for yourself. Come June 20th ill be very happy to get the 2GB NA model. Like I said no offence but I saw this coming.

Mate, no offence, i'm not expert with android or any other developer stuffs but i will certainly disagree about pointing out the RAM to be the problem.
I have both SGS2 and SGS3 and as of the moment i can confidently say that when it comes to multi-tasking, my SGS2 performs better than the latter. How did i come up to it?
-->In my SGS2, I can simultaneously run my GPS on, run Sygic Navigation, play music using Poweamp, while watching Avatar HD(2GB) using the Stick it Pop up video player by MBFG, and then leave all running in background and even watch video using the Floating browser without having any problem, not to mention the live wallpaper i'm using and all the widgets running as well. And take note, both SGS2 and SGS3 have the same amount of RAM.
Right now, I'm also quite disappointed with my S3 as it locks up every now and then with just a simple usage.
My theory or say, just a guess is that, it is related with the Kernel or worst, the ROM itself. Let's just wait for the hard-working devs here to find a workaround for this matter.

Right, but how much does your gnex stock google OS use vs the GS3? You probably have a ton more free ram out of the box than the GS3 does...i guess we know why they put 2 gigs into the new (north america/japan) ones...
Also, does using a different launcher get rid of all that memory? I would think twiz is still running somewhere, just not the launcher itself, so it's still eating up ram... so once you flash a CM/AOKP, they should have this figured out...
I personally don't play much beyond angry birds / words w friends and that type of stuff, so I don't see this being an issue for me, esp with 2 gigs, but I feel your frustration, that would piss me off, spending that kinda money and having those issues.
Well US version was not even an option for many of us in USA. I wanted unlimited data and that's possible on international version only. And I have no issues with ram. Everything works perfectly smoothly for me.

The gnex is using a different soc so it's not going to be the same as the SGS3.
Honestly, we are early adopters and I'm sure Samsung is having most of us be to real beta testers so they can report bugs and fix them.

Deleted oops wrong thread.
The only reason Samsung added 2gigs of ram was to separate the competition also using the same dual-cores(one-x) . This also is used for marketing and final purchasing decisions for noobs.

Being that I came from both the S4 and One, I've found myself completely clueless with this phone as to what's on tv and which channels. they put no effort into the blaster. it's angle is absolutely awful and the htc one and gs4 kill it. if you're one inch off from the direction of the IR in the device, it won't work. it's absolutely terrible... so it doesn't surprise me the software sucks.

I definitely noticed the same thing. I can't seem to figure out what or why it is that way. The One had the best IR blaster in my opinion. I enjoyed it's bundled app more than the S4's too.
Hey guys!
I picked up a 2012 nexus 7 for pretty cheap and I really love this tab. Does everything I would want it to do. However, one thing that's kind of annoying is the Facebook app is super slow... The app itself is responsive but the data loads as if I have a dial up connection. I ran a speed test from it and get 12+ meg...I also have an iPhone and iPad both connected to the same wireless ap and don't have any issues... All other apps seem to be fine as well. Any suggestions?
Thanks guys!!

Hidden apps is limited to 5 from default 10 or 15 = less services for device to handle.. and use_16bpp_alpha=1 forces your device to use 16 bits instead of 32 bits. Try it. Don't like it? Just delete it. Simple.
