Just returned my xda

Bah
I've had it about 6 weeks. It's needed a soft reset many times, but on Wednesday it simply refused to make calls or send/receive texts. It kept saying 'unknown SIM status', so I called the O2 helpline. Moron there suggested it might have come into contact with extra-strong magnets (!!), and said he didn't know whether the problem was with the phone or the SIM. So today, I took the phone to the O2 shop, and it's definitely the phone. It's completely locked up now, and I lost all my data, because I was unable to back up the phone before taking it there (when I connected the phone to my pc, the pc simply didn't recognise anything at all).
All in all, I'm really not chuffed. I've lost a lot of data, most of my phone numbers (because they were stored on the phone), and I had begun to rely heavily on the phone for general organisation.
Not a happy bunny. I just hope they replace it, rather than try to fix it, because I think it's royally f*cked.

Microsoft my Phone tracking

I've lost my phone, haven't blocked it yet or anything in the hope that Microsoft my Phones locate service will help me out. When i lost it was low on Juice, by now it would have died so the locate service isn't working... Im hoping that someone has found it, charges it, sticks their sim card in it and it will be locatable...
Is this the case? The phone will broadcast the IMEI number regardless of what sim is in it yeah? If microsoft my phone isn't finding it, and i'm phoning it several times a day and its saying 'It has not been possible to connect your call, please try again later', im hoping that its dead? If someone was actively using it with a different sim card I would be able to track it right?
I've pretty much written it off now, assuming i'll never find it, i've come to terms with that, but there's always that little bit of hope... Can anyone help please?
Cheers.
Bump.
Sorry to be a pain guys but just a bit of clarification is all i'm after.
Cheers.
Wouldn't it just go right to answerphone if the battery was dead?
Hello, friend. I am really sorry that your phone is gone..I am sure that really stinks...
Well, first: I have never tried that or spoke to a mobile rep about that, but since your phone has a specific adress and its like a vin number, i believe is the IMEI #. And GPS and everything are still in the phone. They can`t delete them or change them. Thus i believe its possible that if you call a Rep and tell them to locate it or something like that, are they supposed to help you? I've heard that iphones have that fiture, that if you loose your phone, they can track it.
That's just my 2 cents. I hope I gave you some hope... Good look mate!
Not good news I'm afraid mate. I've seen quite a few people on here say that the premium MyPhone services don't work.
If someone were to charge it and put a new SIM in it then when they switched it on it would be just like it was when you last had it, so MyPhone would run as often as you had it set to. (I don't know if the tracking is updated upon request or when it syncs.)
If I were you, I'd report it missing, both to your provider and your insurance company. Bad times mate.
so this whole microsoft my phone tracking service doesn't work? Has anyone, or anyone heard of it working...? Would o2 track it and tell me where it is? I heard they won't due to privacy infringement or whatever...but surely thats what these service are in place for, to find a lost phone?
thanks for your replies so far guys.

Have you tried phoning O2 to ask them? It sounds like you've not exactly been too proactive with regards to recovering or safe guarding your phone thus far.
ive been phoning it every day and trying to track it. ive got in touch with the local police station to find out if its been handed in but i cant do that without saying its been stolen and filing a report which im reluctant to do right now if this microsoft my phone service works...

I'm assuming you don't have insurance? I'd think it's safe to say you've lost it, i'd file a report with the local police and try to claim via the insurance if you have it. Getting the IMEI barred is a real last ditch attempt as you can't remove the barred number from your countrys network once it's been done.
The myphone service is linked to the phone by your windows live ID. i would lock it asap with myphone, making the phone useless unless a hard-reset has been performed... After a hard-reset myphone wont be linked to your live ID anymore
I've tried the myphone premium services, and i can confirm that they work. If your phone cant be located, its just bad luck.
good luck to you my friend!

that's why i'm reluctant to block it and report it, once i clock it, i can't keep trying to locate it. if i keep trying to locate it and I fail, i'll lock it via microsoft my phone and put the message for them to contact me, leave it a couple of days, if nothing, block it through o2 with the imei. When i click get started its saying that i can try more than 2 times within a week, so ill have to wait until thursday to try it again i think.
EDIT: Can i still locate it i lock it through myphone not blocking the imei?

Apparently you can.
'For 7 days, My Phone will try to lock your phone. You can check the status of your lock request by returning to this page at any time.'
Have a look there, 3rd one down it gives you the usual Microsoft vague answers.

hm, so it will try to lock the phone for 7 days, but doesn't tell us if once locked, we can still track it?
thanks for your reply you've been a great help!

Microsoft are just as usual usless absolultely usless at giving you any information on any product or service they offer on their own website, and it doesn't actually say anywhere if you can still locate it. But it would be completely pointless if you locked it and it wouldn't let you actually locate the handset, so I would guess you could.
IIRC you can get it to display a custom message when it's locked from myphone. "Hi, thanks for finding my phone. Please call me on xxx-xxx-xxxx to claim your reward!"
that is correct yeah but then once locked, can i still locate it or am i souley relying on the finder to return it?

Even if it does locate it, it's gonna be in a 50m radius, at best. Probably more in the region of a 200m radius, which is nearly the same as not knowing where it is.
If you can get it to lock and display a message, leave it for a little while and then get it blocked via the imei.
I have a replacement sim card being used in a temporary phone at the moment, I just tried to lock the phone, why am I getting a coded text to this number, surely it should be trying to lock my imei not my number?

It has still got to send the phone a locking command, which is what you are getting.
As you are using a replacement SIM with the same number, you are in fact, preventing yourself from using any of the MyPhone functions, as there is no way to connect to the lost phone.

Fatal error.

Noooooooooooooo

im in a trip at miami
i took a cab to this club at night and my phone slipped out of my pocket in the cab, before i realized anything the cab drove off and then my phone was missing, i called it and a girl picked up and said she had it, so i took another cab to go meet her wherever she said she was but she wasnt there, i kept calling hte phone all night and it was ringing till about 3am when i stopped trying in order to get some sleep. i woke up now and im calling and its going straight to voicemail. that means she turned the phone off or took the sim out. the phone was at around 80% battery when i lost it with wifi and everything off so it would ahve lasted the whole night
so my phone is gone!! im wondering what i can do? im with rogers in canada, is there an insurance or lost phone insurance policy that i can bring up? or is there a way they can lock that phone's usage abilities through the VIN number?
Phone rogers and get tell them its stolen. They will ban the ime so it can't be used with any sim.
Use wavesecure in the future. It can lock, track and wipe your phone remotely. Sorry about your bad luck!
If you want it that bad you can go to the police and they can find it next time when someone turns it on.Or the service provider can lock it somehow and make it useless.

Thats what i did when my last phone was stolen from me, go to the police, they will make all your country carriers search for its imei in their network and they are able to locate it too.
I got my phone after 3 months thought. :-(
sent from my x10i that is banging for a 2.1 upgrade. ...
Sorry to hear about your phone dude how unfortunate. Like instigator008, you should call Rogers and tell them about your phone. Did you have your IMEI no. written down somewhere? cuz if you do I'm sure Rogers can lock the phone from anywhere within Canada. They might be able to track your phone too with the IMEI no. but I suggest next time you use a security app that tracks down your phone and locks it down as well. There's a couple of good ones but I'm not sure which. This reminds me I should do it myself too lol. Good luck buddy, and hope you get your phone back soon.
i lost my older 5800xm in a cab too, but im my case the cab driver called the contacts thqt r obvious to me "mom" "dad" and dropped it off himself, i gave him $50 and the phone itself
I am afraid Rogers will not block the IMEI, they do not do that at all unless it was stolen from one of thier locations. Silly I know. There is a lost/stolen program in place just call and see what they can do for you.. also if bough on a credit card there maybe something that can help you. Home insurance may also help.

Lost Phone Help

Hi;
I have lost my phone, I know where I left it but its not there now someone must have picked it up. I have tried ringing it to see if a friendly kind has picked it up and is attempting to get it back to me but it goes straight to the answer phone so either its out of signal, switched off or the phone was found by a not so nice person and they have already swapped the SIM card.
In desperation I logged into HTC Sense and locked the phone and submitted a message? Will this work??
Now that I have locked the phone will I still be able to ring it in case someone answers?
I paid in excess of £450 for this phone unlocked from Carphone Warehouse : ( and desperately need it back.
Any ideas.
Thanks
Thanks
Report it lost to police, other than that I dunno. If you get it back install Prey, just google it and everything you need to know is there.
...
Sadly htc sense is a joke. Anyone with half a clue can bypass it with a factory reset.

found samsung s7

Hey, guys.. so im in the casino walking around and i see a phone under a table. i get it and it's a samsung s7. it was locked so i factory reset it. I still can't get into it because it says the owners identity needs to be verified. how can i get pass all this so i can use the phone for myself? it's with at&t. It asked me to connect to wifi so i did, then it said in order for me to get in the phone i needed the persons email or the phones phone number.. can anyone help, or am just SOL?
Return the phone to casino security, stop trying to come up from another person's loss.
In many jurisdictions, what you are doing is actually a crime.
We will NOT assist you with this here on XDA.
