Galaxy S5 plus battery drain (G901F) - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
I received my S5 plus about 4 weeks ago, (After an overheating LG G3 and a unresponsive Oppo Find 7a i took this one) and all the time I have had a battery drain.
The first one was fixed with a factory reset.
After that the Android System and Android OS were draining battery. At one moment it became to mutch, so I did an reset again.
It was normal for a day an a half, after that the phone was awake/active all the time.
Now I still have the same thing, Android OS and System (Espescially System) are using a lot of battery.
here you have some samples
No photos because im still new
But Gsam says the Android System is using 40% and The android OS is using 20%
Al the other apps are using below 2%
Samsung battery says the System is using 10% and the OS 8%
I am running Android 5.0.2
Anything I can do? I disabled all of Samsung bloatware and other thing but it doesn't help.
I am not rooted and i dont want to. (Lose warranty)

its terrible - pure system without any apps installed and as i said 30% down over night - most uses Android System (or something like that) - i cant check now as im flashing back to KK again at this moment.
EDIT.. my pc died in the middle of flashing..... it is a bad day... download mode is still working, reflashing with kies.........
this problem started because of stupid KingRoot.. i downgraded to KK because i wanted to try if it works on KK...

Could you say more about your stats?
Android System %
Android OS %
Screen on time
Standby time
But it sounds good. however after a Factory reset my phone was also normal on Lollipop. For around 2/3 days.

after last night i lost only 3-4% so its ok, but i didnt use other apps than system so android and system are ~20% in battery stats.
i will test this KK for few more days but i feel it will be ok now.
as i said earlier, phone couldnt go in to deep sleep as much as it should, 300Mhz was used even when phone was idle - now it enters deep sleep for almost all idle time

[Q] Battery drain 4.3

Hi
I know there has been some topics on this, but no answer.
My N7 has ever since the 4.3 update eaten the battery like it was candy. After 6-8 hour, with no actually use at all, it can go from 100% to 40% and if i look in battery usage, it says that android system has used over 80%.
Its like the system dosent go into sleep mode. I can se when i am at work that the tablet connects to skype several times during my worktime, and its just lying on my table in sleepmode?
It also takes forever to charge with stock charger.
None of the above things happend before android 4.3
Hope anyone has an idea
Brian
PS: If i go to recovery mode and resets the system, will it then use the android version the tablet was born with or 4.3?

I have also noticed that when I leave it asleep and don't use it for a good amount of time, the battery will drop by about 10-15 percent

Android OS Wakelock killing the battery!

Hey guys,
I've been having an S6 Edge+ for a couple of days already but there seems to be an issue with the ROM. I'm getting a lot of battery drain from the "Android OS" and I'm losing up to 5% - 7% per hour in standby.... I have even re-flashed the entire ROM and factory reset two times... still the same.
I've disabled Google's Location History and Google Now but this did not help...
My previous Galaxy S6 was also running the latest ROM but there were no such problems...
Has anybody else experienced such an issue and do you have any ideas?

Check if any sync is stuck in loop, sometimes this kills battery very easily. If all else fails check with some app like GSam.

Unfortunately GSam does not produce too detailed information without Root access and it only says Android System and lists all the services that are under it...
The interesting part is that after several re-flashes with the same firmware, the wakelock disappeared...
Now I get 76% to 80% deep sleep...
Go figure... Probably some stuck sync as you mentioned...

Android OS Wakelock killing the battery! ...... solved
OK, im not too savvy with settings and systems, just sharing what i have been through. I too had a major battery drain problem on my S6 Edge+ , giving me abt 8-10hrs of use after a full charge. Even during the nights with everything off and power saving enabled i would lose abt 50-60% battery over 8 hours. ..... caused by Android OS ....... it would keep the screen awake for hours even with the screen off .... ( dont know how that worked) ..... tried a factory reset but didnt help. Then rooted the phone and downloaded wakelock detector and installed it as a system app. Installed greenify and doze ..... last night lost 4% over 11hours with wifi and 4g off and power saving enabled which is a drastic improvement. Facing one little problem that images do not get downloaded (automatically or manually) in whatsapp with wifi in use. Will use the cell for a few days and post again abt how the battery is holding up and if there is any other performance issues.
If you want to save battery, try this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kunkunsoft.packagedisabler
It show all RAM usage of each app, you can disable any app in Bloatware (samsung default app) list to save power

This could be any amount of things but I would start by doing another factory reset. Possibly one of the updates is the cause and a reset after updating might help. If not I would suggest returning it for an exchange if possible.

Note 4 Fast Battery Drain

Hi,
Not sure if this is in the right section so admin please feel free to move.
Ive googled my problem and had a bit of a read but dont really get any solutions.
Ive noticed a serious battery drain since upgrading to 6.0.1 - maybe it happened on the previous version however ive just seemed to have noticed it more since i did the update.
My battery doesnt last very long. It will show 100% in the morning. If i dont use it, it can go down to about 80% within an hour or so. If i do use it then im using apps like gmail, whatsapp / sms, short phone calls, some other apps but im not on them for very long. I normally close all apps that are running in the background.
This morning it was 100%, ive used it as described above and its on 57% and its not even dinner time yet...
Ive checked the battery usage and top of the list is " Cell standby" with 48% usage showing power used is 1530mah - which is alot. The next is "my data manager" (an app to manage data usage) showing power used is 485mah (alot less!). Ive attached a screen shot.
Ive also noticed that once the battery gets to around 30% it drains even faster. I find myself using power saving mode when it gets to about 20%. It still seems to drain at a similar rate. Maybe slightly slower.
Any ideas on what i can do to recover battery time without buying a new battery. There seems to be a few topics online relating to battery drain when updating to the latest android version.
Thanks

I had same battery drain issues when i updated from lollipop to Marshmallow but after doing factory reset everything is better then lollipop and doze feature in 6.0.1 works very well. I leave my phone at night about 9 hours and not drain even 2% battery and i got 5 hours scrern on time .
try factory reset+wipe cache from recovery and use atleast 3 days to doze feature work properly.if you have same drain issue then it's a bad battery.this is the only solution so far.

android system eating up my battery

This problem started a few days ago randomly. I never installed a new app or changed any settings. Started out while I was on a custom ROM. I tried another ROM and same thing. Tried fully erasing everything my phone and still no luck. Fully unrooted and went back to complete stock and Android system is still eating away. When I went back to stock I started the phone as new. Did not restore any apps. This is very frustrating cause it started out of nowhere and it doesn't want to go away no matter what I do. My phone is dying halfway through my day with Android system having double the % that my screen on time has

Go into settings/accounts and see if anything is having a problem syncing. You should also turn off Bluetooth and set location to battery saving if you aren't using Bluetooth devices or GPS. Which build of Android are you using? Is the high battery drain when the phone is idle? In use? Both? Presumably you wiped the system cache after going back to stock?

Accounts are all synced good. I have wifi and Bluetooth scanning off. Location is on battery saving. And I'm on latest vendor 7.1.1 and usually it's when I'm using the phone. Idle drains some too but not that much of a difference.

Did you wipe the system cache? The only obvious thing that might drain your phone when in use is having the screen brightness set very high, but that shouldn't make a huge difference. You said the problem began when you were on a custom ROM but now you are fully stock? That's odd. Poor network connection can also cause high battery drain. I think if you reset your network settings it will force your phone to look for the closest available cell tower. Do you have GSM or CDMA service?

When battery is run down, what is displayed under battery>>android system>>use details? Please paste those details here. Are you in an area of extremely poor LTE signal? Have you ever used Better Battery Stats? Install it and run it for a full battery cycle. Your problem will likely be solved by a factory reset from the stock recovery.

Wouldn't high screen brightness go under the screen category and not Android system? I will reset my network settings and see if it makes a difference. I would assume flashing back to stop and erasing all data on the phone would do that and wipe all system cache as well.

I have BBS installed but without root I don't think it's much help? I will post screenshots when my battery goes down to about 15%
Some people have reported that the following works, although I don't understand why it would. Go into settings/battery/battery optimization/all apps/reset app preferences.
A factory reset shouldn't be necessary if you did a completely clean stock install but it also couldn't hurt.

I never use root even with custom Roms. I feel like I have no need for it. I did what was mentioned earlier and reset my network settings and also I disabled chrome and started using a different browser and so far Android system is the same percentage as screen. Not good but way better than before. BSS is also showing 2 hours "awake (screen off)" which is kinda alarming

You didn't see anything odd when you went into accounts and looked at syncing? For Google you clicked on the account and looked at each individual thing that gets synced under Google? If you were rooted you could try the Naptime app. I hated it but it has many fans. Basically it puts your phone in an extreme Doze state when you aren't using it, which might fix your problem. But if you want anything to work with the screen off you have to exempt it from Doze. Screen off in Naptime kills pretty much everything.
Same here. Everything stock. Just checked accounts settings and everything is good.
right now my top 5 is:
Screen 13% (2h:52min SOT)
Android System 10%
Android OS 9%
Facebook 8%
WhatsApp 5%
and in overall I've been around 40 min on Facebook, and you know that this **** consumes a lot, so go figure out how the hell is Android System and OS above it.

They are components shared by applications so that's rather normal to have them high.
I don't care about Android architecture much so only look at my SOT (which is nominal).
Those interested in why system and OS are high, should read the battery stats source code to see what's grouped under these and how it's being calculated.
I locked my bootloader last night and did a factory reset from settings. Right now Android system is at 5% and screen at 4%
I'm about to completely just give up

Android System tally is the sum total of a number of components. That it is "high" is not necessarily a big deal. The real question is: what are each of those components using? When your battery is run down, what is displayed under battery>>android system>>use details? Those usage details may help you find a problem if you even have one. Short of rooting and running a dedicated battery usage/wakelock app, these details may be the best you will get.
Decided to run purenexus and exkernel with root to get better stats. Battery is a little better but still not even close to how it used to be. Here are screenshots of everything . Woke up with 100% around 5:30 am. Went to work and the gym and wat he'd some YouTube.
The only way I found to fix this issue was to implement aggressive doze as soon as screen is off.
If you're on MM this can be done using apps like ForceDoze
And on Nougat using NapTime
Furthermore , I also implemented ElementalX kernel with Hawktail governor.
Since these changes my Screen is on top of the list in battery and maximizes my screen on time. Nothing else works for me.
The phone tends to stay awake needlessly without all these tweaks.

I really don't see anything wrong here, except awake time and maybe SOT. 4 hours SOT is very good for stock and you are at what 3.3 hours? I use the Hawk Tail governor profile in EX as well and it gives me just a small amount of improvement over stock settings. I use the stock rom, rooted with EX and get 4-5 hours SOT.

I think the 2 hours awake screen off is normal unless you use an App like Naptime to put your phone in Doze as soon as the screen is off. If you are really concerned with idle battery life you might want to try Naptime, but you may need to play with the settings so the phone works like you want, Naptime by default turns off everything that isn't excluded from Doze when the screen goes off. That includes music players and the fingerprint sensor.
