Still decided which one. Everyone has a Samsung I want to have something different
Removable battery, removable storage, camera.
There is no getting around being tethered to a charger, so while your buddy's S6 is stuck to a wall outlet just pop in your freshly charged FREE battery from LG and take off. Oh yeah expandable SD is nice too.

plus G4 is also cheaper than S6
The battery and external storage completely nullify any advantages the S6 has in my book.

Developer support, as the enyxosplatform on the S6 is very hard to work with, and G4 has an unlocked bootloader, the lifetime for G4 will be much longer.
Ergonomics (back button placement is the best imo, keeps the phone looking sleek), thin bezels, expandable storage, removable back and battery, better camera, cheaper, double tap to wake.
Reasons to get the S6: build quality, fingerprint scanner (not the best, but it still works most of the time), health and fitness (bio metric scanners), screen size is more fitting for most people.
There are plenty of reasons not to get the S6, but what did it for me is the fact that there is no expandable storage. The navigation buttons are annoying too. You have to stick to the multitasking button on the left, and the back button on the right (relative to where the home button is). I could honestly never get used to that.
No doubt the s6 is nice, but like you I was looking for something different. Last three phones were sammy, Couldn't decide between G4 and note 4. Got so impatient for a new phone I almost bought the Not 4....instead I got the G4 and have absolutely NO regrets.
Camera....enough said already about it. Check out sample thread.
Personally love the glass buttons as opposed to the physical button, didn't think something so small would be nice.
Knock code is extremely under rated. I double tap all phone screens now and miss it when using the gf phone. I prefer it to a finger scanner.
No touch wiz!! That has to count for double points.
Lg interface isn't something that will blow you away. But I appreciate its simplicity.
Battery is great as mentioned above. Does take minor disabling to get that extra mile.
Only thing you would really have to consider is the size..it is significantly bigger.
S6 has some nice features like finger print scanner, and heart rate monitor, but unless you are a sport nut...you probably won't use the latter much.
Just my two cents.....
Either way..happy shopping. Let us know what you choose.

Actually the G4 does not have an unlocked bootloader, the S6 does. The G4 has an unlockable bootloader but not all variants. Every international S6`s bootloaders are unlocked by default.
The removable battery is the major feature the G4 has over the S6 in my opinion. Also i love the buttons on the back, they are out of the way and i can squeeze the sides as much as i want during ganing or watching videos without worrying about anything.

It seems like such a great feature that one could make a commercial out of it. Like this one, for example:

LG should make a commercial against the S6 for that, it should be very interesting.

As mentioned, pop a fresh new battery when you don't have a charger at your disposal. Not only that but the double tap to wake is underrated and I love it. The leather back is really great too, a lot of people have asked what cover I'm using and they think it's really cool that it's part of the phone. I really love the camera too, now I can't speak for the S6 but the camera on the G4 is really great, the front camera too!
Removable battery
Sd card
Better ram management
Better camera
Doesnt overheat
Cheaper
Bigger screen yet still smallish device
Can have more than 2 things open at once
Can actually multitask
Better battery life
Did i mention ram management is good?
For me is the bigger screen, on-screen soft buttons and double tap to wake... plus the gorgeous leather back. (front part of G4 looks like crap though)

I think what he meant was the G4 has the potential to be unlocked by any carrier (as all previous ones have been). If you're like me and on Verizon (or others on AT&T) you will NOT get an unlocked BL. Samsung hasn't had an unlocked BL since the S4.
Unlocked BL is a no-no with Att and Verizon. I bought my S6 from Tmobile to use on Att

for me its these
1) No physical "home" button
2) rear power button
3) SD card slot
4) removable back
5) camera
Removable battery is infinity battery. Turn every thing on and worry about life problem, not battery problem anymore.

My top 10 in order of importance:
1. Standby - much better than my S6E
2. Double tap to wake/sleep
3. Tan Leather back
4. Changeable backs - Never get bored without adding a bulky case
5. SD Card
6. Promo for 2 free SD cards and a free battery & cradle
7. Curve - it's subtle yet helps the feel
8. LG - I've had great luck with LG in Nexus 4 and Nexus 5
9. Manual camera + raw
10. Size - bigger screen than S6 but overall doesn't feel much bigger

You should just name this forum, "What are your favorite features?"
I have a Developer Edition and I'd say that the phones unlocked is my favorite feature. Of the note 4 in general there are just to many to list probraly that it is so feature rich!!!
I've owned all 4 notes and the deciding factor has always been the s-pen. If the new nexus had one I'd be on that, but for me I use the pen all the time
The screen. Has a lot of distinguishing features, but I think that's the best so far. Definitely a sum of it's parts best in class. Without root, a bit harder to champion.
At work where people are very envious of it, is the pen and clipping features for sure.

The s pen and an SD card slot and I'd have gone for the Nexus too.
Favorite feature? Tough for me to say since it all works so well. I'll go with the fact that I finally have a smart/feature phone that actually does well as a phone (signal, audio, battery).
I haven't got my Note 4 yet, but here are the features that have made me decide on it.
1. Most important is root access. I absolutely will not buy a phone that locks me out of doing what I want. To that end I plan on buying the developer's edition. Incidentally this is what kept me from buying the LG G3. I was VERY interested in it, but by the time root was achieved phones with the 805 processor were just around the corner.
2. Replaceable battery. I tend to buy top of the line gear and then use it for a long time before replacing. Given the limited lifespan of batteries being able to swap a new one in let's me use my toy long after it would otherwise have died. Heck, I just replaced the battery in my Nexus 10. Plus I occasionally like to carry a spare battery on trips.
3. The camera. I've never been much of a photographer but recently I've found myself wishing more and more that I had a decent camera with me. The camera in my current Galaxy Nexus is pretty poor.
4. SD card slot. Since I expect to be taking more pictures and videos than before having the extra storage will be a must!
5. The screen. Love the size, sharpness and color.
6. The multiwindow functionality.
7. I THINK I will like the stylus, but I'm not sure. Never had one on a phone.
A couple of the features I don't care about at all are the heart rate monitor and the fingerprint scanner. I'll probably see if I can disable them entirely just to save battery.
This is my third Note (Note 2, 3, 4) and here's why I chose it...
- Removable battery
- SD card.
- Screen size and resolution
- CPU performance.
I never use the SPen so that wasn't a factor.
The big bonus this time is the beauty of the body of this Note. Samsung isn't noted for it's design, they've always been more pedestrian than pretty. The first thing I've always done with Samsung phones was put a case on it. But this one is so beautiful that I refuse to put a case on it.

Good post. I think you'll want to wait because there is a good chance that the Verizon Note 4 will not have root access. Development overall is low, and the phones are locked down. Bad combination for those of us who at least want root.
Hope it does eventually happen, but I don't know.
Can't believe my coworker has jailbreak on his giant iPhone but this phone isn't rooted! (Somewhat exaggerated outrage) Don't sleep on the camera as a great feature, I find it incredibly improved from Note 3.

I agree. I'm one of the ones who is anxiously awaiting the restock of the Developer Edition.
If for some strange reason I am not able to get a DevEd version and the retail version never does get unlocked I will probably just stick with my old Galaxy Nexus for a while longer. Maybe the LG G4 (or whatever they wind up calling their next flagship) will suit me.
I'm guessing next year's wave of flagship phones will have 64 bit processors so maybe waiting won't be so bad. I am worried based on what Chainfire has said about Android Lollipop, that it will be very difficult to root phones at that point though.

Hi all, I'm currently using the Galaxy S5 and looking to upgrade to the G4. Anyone has switched to the G4 from Samsung's high end phones like the S6 or the Note 4? Can you give some impressions and comparisons (Camera (most important), screen, performance)? Thanks a lot!
From Note 4.... The G4 should crush the S5 except water resistance
I did it after one month with s6 edge, battery in s6 edge is so bad, other things are ok and almost identical, no lags on both phones. Camera is identical.
I came from the S5 to the G4 and haven't even had a second thought on going back
Camera is amazing. UX 4.0 beats Touchwiz (in my opinion better than S6 as well, my wife has that). Just takes some getting used to the no "hard" home buttons and the power/volume buttons on the back rather than the side but once you do it's actually more convenient knowing a case can protect them even more and are less susceptible to being damaged
I came from galaxy s3. Well, it's obvious that the g4 performs wayyyy much better
Note 4 to G4 here. So far, seems better in all aspects. Only one it might not beat the Note 4 in is battery, but I haven't had for long enough to really see how it averages. Camera is better. UI seems cleaner and easier to use. Love double tap on, as I was used to it with the HTC M8 and missed it on the Note 4. Only weird thing I had to get used to was in the cam app, the 3 software buttons don't show up (have to hit the back button in the camera view).
LG really did well with this phone
Thanks all , would love to hear more from Note 4 and S6 users too!

I'll post more as I get to use phone more. Just got yesterday. So far, it's really nice. I had almost written LG off after the Optimus G. Glad I didn't. So far:
PROs for G4 vs Note 4
Lighter. Also noticeably smaller despite screen being almost same size.
Better Camera
UI - UX 4.0 really is nice and light
No Keyboard FCs! Man that was annoying in Lollipop Note 4...keyboard FC but stayed on screen, had to reboot to get rid of
Double tap on and Knock unlock code
Themes
Settings app broken down into proper sections (Note 4 Settings scrolls all day with all settings on a single scrolling list)
Can get a real Glass Screen Protector without the dreaded Halo effect around all edges (Note 4 curved edge to screen caused this no matter which glass protector I used (tried 6).
64 bit processor
Faster in real world use
Cool offers of free stuff from LG
About $200 cheaper
PROs for Note 4
Stylus (I only used a handful of times....was more of a gimmick to me)
Better battery life?
Fingerprint scanner and heartrate monitor (I hardly used either, as the fingerprint scanner required an odd hand placement for such a large phone)
Physical Home button
Just different between the 2:
Home button and volume button placements (I prefer LG after using for a little bit)
Both have IR blaster, large beautiful screens, expandable storage, 3GB RAM, excellent wireless radios.
Switched over from a Samsung Galaxy S4...I traded it in for $100 to At&T so my G4 only cost me $99 + tax on my upgrade option. Loving it so far, praying for root to get rid of the bloatware. :fingers-crossed:
I did. I have the S6e at home and I intend to switch back and fourth. The G4 feels so much bigger. The camera quality is NOT the same and I have tested them both in the same scenarios. The s6 is brighter and crisper than the G4. Stock launchers is far better and faster than TW. TW began to lag on my S6, so I installed Nova Prime and it was super fast again. Battery on the G4 is 10 times better than the S6. I got 36 hrs on my G4 and still had 25% left.
I came from a rooted Note 3. First non-phone-specific: I REALLY REALLY miss root. The ability to block ads is missed and I have to wait to restore all of my titanium backups that I have sitting till the G4 is rooted.
As far as performance goes, my Note 3 was pretty snappy. I haven't noticed very many differences in performance yet. But I've been waiting for the battery to get a few cycles before I really start pushing performance with games and stuff.
Other than that, I don;t really miss my Note 3. The G4 is smaller, looks nicer has a better (but only slightly smaller) screen. I kind of miss AMOLED screen tech for battery and contrast, but everything else makes up for it. Do not regret it.:good:

I have an S6e as well and agree with you. I had a Note 4 before the S6e and now the G4 and it feels downright massive compared to the S6e. The Note 4 felt smaller to me because it was thinner but it was a big device as well. I got rid of my Note 4 because of it's size, I ride motorcycles almost daily and the damned thing was never comfortable in my pocket, it was just too big and rectangle and flat. The S6e is perfect size for me in that regard but I really miss having a larger display (had a Nexus 6 before the Note). Because of the slight curvature of the back of the G4 it makes just enough of a difference in my jeans that it doesn't dig the corners of the phone into my leg when I squeeze the tank in turns, etc.
Cameras between S6e and G4 seem pretty similar to me but there is a difference but I attribute that to Samsung doing a better job of processing the jpg file that's output than LG with the G4 having the ace in the hole of giving you the raw file you can subsequently edit yourself. I know that's not what most people want to do (myself included for phone snaps), but I think the LG camera is better for that reason alone as you can certainly make a better image in the end. All that said, I believe the S6e will do the same once it gets official 5.1.1 and then a proper camera comparo can be done, though in all honesty it's still a phone camera and they are both outstanding for what they are.
Same thoughts on launchers too, the iteration of TW on the S6e is much better than anything they've done before but it still suffers from the same old problems of lag ultimately. I too use Nova (on both phones) and it solves the issue. If forced to use stock, I would probably pick the LG but I do hate the DPI of 640 and everything is so damned big and there's so much wasted screen real estate. The S6e out of the box with it's adjustable grid sizes and what not better utilizes the screen.
Agree on battery life also. On the stock ROM I could make it through a day (I work 18-20h shifts at times) on a single charge but I would cut it close some days. The built in Qi charging is really nice and I have a charger at work and I can just drop the phone on it when I can make it to my office and the quick charge via the INCLUDED wall charger is awesome. So even though the battery life wasn't great, it's quite easy to top it off. I did run the leaked TMo 5.1.1 software for a week or so and the battery life on it is a completely different animal. I could make it nearly 48 hours without a top off, so again, with 5.1.1 I think the S6e will be a lot better device than it currently is. The battery life on my G4 seems great so far. I've run it down to 10% twice now and it was at about 40h off charger each time. The phone itself supports quick charge 2.0 but the included wall charger doesn't. The wall charger charges it incredibly slow so I've been using my S6e charger which charges it in about 1/3 the time. I ordered a proper quick charge 2.0 certified charger that should be here tomorrow along with a Qi sticker for the stock back. All things considered, the G4 battery is certainly longer lasting but more of a pain in the ass to recharge for now (until my free spare battery from the promo shows up lol!) and for the way/scenarios I use my phone I prefer the S6e here. My Note 4 easily crushed them both in this category, it could go just over 3 days before dying.
Coming from S5 (Verizon) to the G4 (Verizon) ...
The S6 with no SD support was a no-go for me.
Battery life seems a little shorter than the S5. I suspect it is due to the beefier processor on the G4 even though the G4 has a bigger battery. The battery on the G4 seems to drop a LOT less when unused however.
I am kinda missing my fingerprint scanner on the S5, but the knock code and "locked files" in gallery help me keep certain pictures away from prying eyes.
Speaking of pictures, this camera is awesome. Period. Check out the "My LG G4 Photography" thread by alexfoxy. The front camera is pretty good too. A lady friend took a few selfies with my phone and said "damn, your phone makes me look good!"
I don't really notice the difference in the screen (size or resolution). S5 looked good and a the size is right for my big hands. G4 is the same.
This is the first phone that I didn't immediately wish for a ROM. I am missing my ad-blocking that requires root, but the default ROM is clean and fast (maybe kudos the the processor). I did have to change home back to Apex, tho.
All in all, very happy with the upgrade.
I'm coming from the Note 4 and I'm pretty sure the G4 is here to stay with me.
I can basically echo what others are saying;
- the ui is cleaner and smoother
- overall phone seems a lot smoother/quicker I haven't had much stuttering. The Note had its moments where it'd freeze or stutter really badly, even on a custom rom
- maybe it's just me but the pictures from the camera seem sharper.
- It feels better in hand aswell.
- The double tap on screen to unlock is nice to have
- the clip tray being an option when I long press where I would usually paste is nice to see as with the Note, the clipboard only showed up in select places
It just seems nicer overall. I do hope root comes soon as I'd want to disable some stuff.
In terms of battery, I feel like the Note might of done better but then again I had certain crap apps disabled *cough* tmo my account *cough*
I can't exactly judge though since my service at work sucks so whatever phone I use drains quickly. For some reason when I had the OnePlus it did a ton better in the poor coverage areas (in terms of battery drain) but it didn't have WiFi calling which is a big deal to me.
I didn't use the spen as much as I initially thought I would. When it came to taking notes I always went back to typing them rather than writing with the stylus. Although it did come in handy for selecting certain parts of a pic online and whatnot and quickly sharing it to something like hangouts.
Fingerprint and shealth I never cared for.
I haven't "missed" my Note 4 yet. I like having new devices and I'm sure I don't use them to their potential as some others do here but for my purposes the phone is great
Even though I have the HTC One M9 Dev Edition, I consider myself coming from the T-Mobile S5 to the T-Mobile G4. The dealmaker for me were the replaceable battery and removable storage. I'm still keeping my S5 of course. I still need a root-capable device.

Regarding the Note 4I got irritated with it to the point where I paid off half the phone's price to get rid of it. Lollipop was an absolute mess. First, we waited forever. Then when we get it, it really messed up the phone. Issues I had:
1) Constant keyboard FC (where keyboard stays on screen permanent until reboot)...this would happen about once an hour, but only when using special characters ( . , * $ etc).
2) Upon unlocking, I would go to a black screen occasionally, requiring me to press the power button to shut off phone, then turn back on.
3) Trying to open an e-mail from notifications would take me to e-mail APP, but to a blank page with a back button.
4) Sometimes, cellular radio would choose to ignore wireless data altogether despite being in a strong LTE area.
5) Wifi calling would hardly connect, and was as likely to drop mid-call as it was to stay connected
6) Battery life went from 2 days with my usage to about 18 hours.
On top of those Lolli issues, the settings menu was a mess...scroll all day to find the menu I wanted. Missed double tap to wake too.
While I LOVED the look of the M9 and I love HTC in general, I eliminated HTC M9 due to 2 reasons:
1) The camera wasn't a contender with the current flagships and I use it as my primary camera to take pics of my kids.
2) No dual apps on same screen. It's a feature I used on the Note 4, and M9 didn't have it.
The S6 got eliminated due to 3 main reasons:
1) Looks too much like IPhone...sorry, just not my style
2) Touchwiz...granted my opinion is based on the Note 4, but I found it to be overly heavy and loaded with things I don't really use.
3) No expandable storage. I read their point of using high speed EMMC and wanting to keep system fast. What I read in that was "Blah blah blah we want you to pay MORE to get more storage". Again, goes back to too much like IPhone.
I'm not saying the G4 is perfect...I'd love it to have an 8 core processor, but it's really powerful enough as is. It's not overloaded with apps I won't really used or features I don't use. I'm sure I'll find things I don't LOVE as I use it more, but nothing is jumping out at me so far, and considering this has only been out for what...2 weeks, it's still early release, so bugs could be expected somewhat even though I've had none thusfar. I also liked the promotions LG was putting with it considering it's the least expensive of all the flagships out there (at least for us T-Mobile customers...it's $50 less than the M9, $80 less than S6, $180 less than S6E, hell, it's even cheaper than a 16GB IPhone 6).
Sorry so long

i'm not one of those TL;DR types.
What's everyone's personal opinion on the device after having it for a couple of days? I'm picking one up regardless but I was just curious about the initial reviews and not just from all the hate threads about removable battery and expendable storage.
Why not read the many reviews now available online ? Reviewers from tech sites are no different to asking people here - just subjective opinions from strangers, and as you are intending to purchased one regardless ...

It's de definitely snappier when changing screens or apps. Don't know how much that is 5.1.1 or the newer hardware.
We have both the note 5 and the s6 edge plus in our house, and both of us agree the edge plus in s a nicer phone. The Note 5 just barley feels like an upgrade to the Note 4. We use cases so the glass back is pointless. Unless you have to have the stylus, go with the S6 Edge Plus, in my opinion.

I honestly haven't put much thought into the Edge+ because I do use my stylist a couple times a day. I also heard the screen is a gimmick and some reviewers say it gets old after a while, might have to check one out in the stores.
I love the battery compared to the note 4. Standby time is amazing even though i have lots of installed apps and autosync on.
I'm enjoying mine quite a bit. It's my first Note, and really my first Samsung. I technically had the S6 edge for 2 weeks, but I returned it so I could get the Note 5, and because I didn't like the way it felt in my hand.

Absolutely wonderful.
The software is amazing the most sophisticated piece of "equipment" I've very had. The keyboard fits my hands now. The battery is so amazing. I am blown away.
The camera is what I've always wanted in a phone now I have something to hopefully learn with. I am not missing anything. I actually believe I will be able to quit fiddling with things and learn with this this thing.
Note 5 here

It's de definitely snappier when changing screens or apps. Don't know how much that is 5.1.1 or the newer hardware.
We have both the note 5 and the s6 edge plus in our house, and both of us agree the edge plus in s a nicer phone. The Note 5 just barley feels like an upgrade to the Note 4. We use cases so the glass back is pointless. Unless you have to have the stylus, go with the S6 Edge Plus, in my opinion.

In partial to the note since I have owned all 5! It is truly a great phone.. Awesome build, super fast, great camera, fingerprint sensor is very fast, perfect screen, and as always in an spen guy so that's awesome too.
Battery life is a good as the 4 for me and I'm a super power user.
Excellent phone imo

This is my first Note, but certainly not my first large Android phone. I've had dozens of Android phones going all the way back to the OG T-Mobile G1. My most recent phone was the OnePlus One which I carried for a year and was very happy with.
As for the Note... I LOVE it! The screen is truly breathtaking, even coming from the OnePlus One which had a great screen. The camera is seriously what I've been waiting for since 2008... THIS is how a phone camera should be. The fingerprint reader is pretty cool and it's the first time I've ever used a security lockscreen on a phone and been happy with it. Battery life has been on par/maybe slightly better than the OnePlus One which had 100mah more capacity.
One thing that caught me totally off guard is how many software features this phone has that I've never seen in any other Android. My last Samsung was a S3, so TouchWiz has changed a lot since those days.
With all that said, this is the first Android phone I've had in AGES with a locked bootloader and no modding community. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I didn't realize this was the case until after my order had been placed. There are some things from custom roms that I immediately miss and wish I could get back like: double tap to wake, silent volume adjustment, linked ringtone and notification volumes(I did fix this with Tasker), and some others.
Another thing I'm bummed about... the clear cover over the camera flash and pulse sensor is made of crappy plastic and mine has scratches all over it already just from wiping it off with my Tshirt. Really bummed about this. I usually keep my phones looking brand new for at least 8-10 months and this one is scratched in 3 days.
Although there's been a lot of comparison criticisms between the Note 4 and Note 5, the Note 5 exceeds the note 4. One of the complaints is the 3000mah battery. While the Note 4 does have more (3250mah), the Note 5 actually outlasts the Note 4. This is both measured AND real-time use. So, while in some cases "size matters", efficiency is what comes into play with the Note 5. I also just read that the Note 5 has the best display of ALL smartphones currently on the market. I think most negative criticisms of the Note 5 is spec based and not real-time use based. WhIle some may think Samsung focused more on hardware, they did come up with a more efficient and better functioning device with the Note 5.
I had the note 3 back then, jumped on the Apple boat, and a few more devices including the oppo find 7a. But after much thinking, I was aiming for the edge plus, but considering I like to jot down stuff instead of typing, I went ahead and chose the note 5. Besides that, the camera allows you to almost control all settings manually which is a big plus for us photographers. Also, you still get the awesome tricks with the gestures and such. The battery life to me seems average, even though it has the qhd display, it holds its ground against similar screen phones.
Charging is very quickly now compared to my other phones. The body is quite a new style, and much more pro looking.
Overall great phone, but it comes down to personal choice if you want to choose this or the edge plus. Good luck!

I sent mine back. I've had a lot of phones, and I've never sent one back. The main reasons I bought it were, in order of importance: 1) Fingerprint reader 2) Better
camera 3) Better display.
The fingerprint reader didn't work great for me. I found it just about as annoying as having to enter a pin or gesture unlock.
I have an LG G3, so I'm used to big phones, but this thing feels so heavy, and is just big enough that it doesn't fit in places where my G3 does.
The display and camera are nice, but not incredibly better (I know lots of people complain about the G3 display, but I think it's fine if you turn the brightness up).
I like the fact that the people who own one, are really liking their device. The Note 4 got a good amount of negative feedback when it was first announced but nothing like the 5. Like most cases, it's easy to point out flaws before even testing the device. On the way now to Verizon to pick mine up.
64g Black is what I'm going for. What did everyone else get?
I had the S6 edge before this phone and honestly its killing the Note 5 for me. The screen on the S6 seems more vibrant and clear than on the Note5. Also somehow the camera (which im told is the same on both phones) seems to take better low light pics with the galaxy vs the note. The differences are small and its still a great phone but i may end up back with the S6... Im gonna give it a few more days and see how i feel
Was told last Friday not to pre-order because I wouldn't receive my device until past 8/24 and was guaranteed that the Verizon stores around me would have 64g Friday morning. Turns out none around me have them... Thanks Verizon!
Been enjoying the phone a lot recently after switching from my iPhone 6 Plus and being on Apple phones ever since the iPhone 4. The only issue I have is apparently my battery life is bad because I used to get through a full day with my iPhone and would have roughly 30% left when I went to sleep. I've been finding out recently that I have to charge the Note 5 during the day in order to last as long. The system predicts my battery will be dead by 9 PM tonight which I thought was kinda short.. I'm not a super heavy user so I don't know what's causing it to die quicker than normal, nothing in power usage hints at what it is either..

Note5
153.2 x 76.1 x 7.6 mm
G3
146.3 x 74.6 x 8.9 mm
a difference of (+)7.1 x (+)1.5 x (-)1.3 mm from the G3. The width should feel essentially the same, 1.5mm difference is going to be close to imperceptible. 7mm extra height is enough for you to notice, but not enough to really make a difference for most people. and it's thinner so it should fit in pockets or slim places easier.
The only major difference is weight, 149g vs 171g.
I'm not sure why you seem to think the note5 is bigger because it is, but by 7.1mm at the most compared to the G3, I dont know if I believe you when you say it doesn't fit in the same places as the G3, a difference of 7mm shouldnt be enough to do that.
So MKBHD just released a video regarding the perfect smart phone and how the inherent definition of perfect in a smartphone constantly changes. A year ago, not many people were too keen on a fingerprint scanner, now with Android M coming up, it feels like a fingerprint scanner is almost vital to be in contention of the best/closest to perfect android smartphone there is. I feel as if the G4 is currently the closest thing to perfect right now (for me).
Wishlist for the G5:
Fingerprint scanner that doubles as a power button in the back of the phone. I think if LG incorporate a similar button that Samsung has adopted in terms of the home button acting as both a fingerprint scanner and a power button, they'll have a great product in their hands. Android pay is going to be massive and confirmation of a purchase via a fingerprint scanner seems like something that is vital in order to be labeled as the best/closest to perfect smartphone out there. Granted, the current home button in the back of the phone is small and probably can't serve as an accurate scanner, but I'm hoping LG can do something about that, or they can implement some relatively new screen technology that can read fingerprints anywhere on the front of the screen and retain the same button size in the back. Either way, some sort of fingerprint scanner is going to be needed as more and more manufacturers are using it.
Thin down the bezels again. The G4 is actually larger than the G3 despite having the same screen size. I personally feel 5.5" is perfect, whereas 5.7" is pushing it a bit, and 6" is at the edge of unusable. If LG decide to keep the 5.5" screen, hopefully they can thin down the phone again and have it at G3 size, or if possible - thinner (which I doubt).
Retain key mantras of the G4. If LG stray away from expandable storage and a removable back, they'll pretty much lose the battle for best smartphone. Many of us love the G4 for its current abilities, if LG toss those abilities aside - they'll have very upset people. I don't see the camera getting much better, so if they decide to keep the same lens/camera, they'll be fine.
The last thing I can say is rather subjective because it's software related. If there's one thing I absolutely loved about my Xperia Z3+ and N6, it's the fact that they had close to stock/stock Android software. I feel like Sony had the best iteration of Android out there. I really dislike certain aspects of LG's UI. Things like the pull down menu, the unlock (where you have to swipe regardless of double tapping a notification), unlock animation, bloatware, etc. I just prefer a stock look, feel, and speed. The G4 is plenty fast, but I just wonder how fast it'd be with stock software (we'll hopefully see how quick it is with some great guys working at a CM12.1 ROM, good luck guys!)
What do you guys think? What can LG do to make the G5 the best phone out there? I know the G4 was only recently released, but it's always fun speculating and/or wishing.
have software that isn't a pile of **** when the phone goes on sale. The OS at launch was hardly what I would use as a daily driver.

If I could just have Sony's ui and smoothness with the G4 hardware attributes in a OnePlus 2 design I would be ecstatic.

give me some front facing speakers, water resistant and a fingerprint reader on the back(power button too) and I think it would be perfect. Would love to see a google play edition too for pure android and quick updates but maybe that is bonus.
Get rid of soft/on screen buttons. I like my home/back/menu buttons on the bottom bezel, like the Galaxy S4. They are always there & alive. I don't have to swipe up or tap the status bar, to "wake" them, and then the button I want.

• Don't make 10 million variants with different sets of bands unlocked; Just make a few variants with all the bands unlocked, just with basic differences such as language.
• Don't put useless bloatware on it

You bring up a very good point here. I don't understand why iPhone's are fairly universal in their bands and what not but android users need to stay aware of it. Such a shame, really.

The phone is close to perfect for me, except for my horribly unresponsive, laggy touch screen. I've been willing to put up with that due to the rest of the phone being so good.
There is a potential deal breaker though. If we don't get TWRP and custom ROMs for all models soon, this phone is going to be a fail, as good as it otherwise is. Makes me sad too because I paid a premium for this phone at launch and I'm stuck with it even if we never get full control.

Yep. Going to wait until the Nexus 5 drops and then I will probably be selling my G4. Software is bull**** and the mod community is non-existent for my edition. Took MONTHS for root like wtf? lol
AMOLED screen
Front Facing Speakers
Reasonable resolution for performance/battery life
SD820 is all I want, for better batterylife. Had the G4 since the start, and I haven't had any problem with software or lag, barely felt any difference between the updates. I have an unlocked version and only apps in it from start were LG and Google, zero extra bloat.
Don't care much for fingerprint scanner, and would only prefer one when it gets integrated in the display.
Waterproof would be nice, but not a huge concern.
I want a g4 with front facing stereo speakers and a better audio processor/dac
Also don't get why everyone wants a finger print scanner. Just like face unlock they will never be as secure as a pin or swipe code. Had one on my old laptop that let nearly anyone in not sure if finger print reading technology has changed since then or not..
My wishlist is unchanged for the last few years - multiple day battery life, unbreakable screen, water proofing.
I can deal with the rest

I want
- metal frame with back leather or metal
- front facing stereo speaker
- 100% quality Jpeg and Raw
- No more mic zoom which change the sound weirdly
- Fingerprint I don't really care, but why not because all flagships will have it.
- better dac ?
- more curved ?
- and better battery life like all smartphones...
The G4 is already great otherwise.
I want:
-unibody made of unobtainium
-optical zoom up to 20x
-battery made of nanotubes that can charge in 5 minutes and can give us 24h SOT
-4 axis OIS
-dna scanner for better protection

Fingerprint scanners have vastly changed since they were used in old laptops. The Huawei Ascend Mate 7 that I have is a very clear example of that. The fingerprint scanner works 95% of the time as long as you record it properly. It's also extremely fast despite running Huawei's bloated software too. No one could get into the phone either, unless they had my pin code of course. Fingerprint scanners have come a very long way.
My G4 still misses plenty of double taps when I try to wake it, it gets very frustrating at times. Having a fingerprint scanner would fix that issue, as long as the scanner is accurate of course.
An unlocked bootloader and some decent development.

Unlocked bootloader
Not full of bloatware
Buttons on the side/top
Actual fast charging (and support for it with the included charger)
Water resistance
- No fingerptint or front stereo bull****, instead of this i want much much much thinner bezels
- No more soft onscreen buttons
- USB- C
- Removable back cover, bigger battery and microSd support
- Carbon- kevlar body and frame
- 5.5" FHD display for better battery life

Hey everyone I'm from Toronto, Canada. I currently own a Samsung Note 4. I wanna buy the LG V20 but I want to root it and also have it work with Freedom(Wind) mobile's LTE network. Is there a American or International LG V20 that is rootable & can take advantage of Freedom's LTE network.
Any answers would be helpful!
Thanks
hey there!
here you can find some details about the lte frequencies each version supports
https://www.techwalls.com/lg-v20-model-numbers-differences/
since freedom uses b4 and b66, I guess your only choice for a full LTE support is H918.
actually on freedommobile.ca you can get the h915 with full official support to their bands... no idea if it's rootable though, guess you'll need someone else to help on that
I'll bet if you went to the ROMs and other development subforum, you'd find the answer to your question regarding root. The search function will help you, too.
Like I said in another thread. Go back to your Note 4. Trust me I regret getting rid of my Note 4 for this POS. Went through 2 v20's already and waiting for my 3rd replacement as this one just died.
Dont do it. I sold my note 4 for a note 7, then of course had to turn the note 7 in and I mistakenly chose the V20 as a replacement. I wish I could have kept my Note 4, because the V20, even with updated processor, is no better than my previous Note 4. In fact, the camera on my note 4 was WAY better. =(

Whats wrong with the LG V20? I think it would be a perfect phone if it had a Super AMOLED display instead of Quantum LCD. I think that's the only thing I'm giving up. :crying:
I have both. The Note 4 was my primary phone before purchasing the V20. In my opinion, the V20 is a much better phone. My Note 4 has been sitting in my nightstand, untouched for months. I know many disagree, but I prefer the LCD display over AMOLED. While AMOLED may look slightly better, it really isn't something you'll notice in daily use. Plus, my Note 2, 3, and 4 all suffered from screen burn-in rather quickly. Something you don't have to deal when using an LCD display

Outside of the battery saving power of amoled and the stylus, everything is better than the note 4.
- faster processor (about x3 in benchmarks)
- double space
- 1gb more of ram
- better camera
- better display (in certain aspects)
- second screen no other phone has is quite useful once you get used to using it especially playing music without having to turn the screen on.
Having to replace a phone 3 times for defects is extremely rare, the chances of getting a perfect unit is much higher. I am curious to know what SaintZ had problems with.
I upgraded from a note 3 to a v10 and had no regrets and that phone wasn't nearly as good as the V20.

I know I wish it was Super AMOLED display then the LG V20 would be a complete upgrade. Can always swap out the battery. LG V20 looks like a direct upgrade to the Note 4.
Ive got my note 5 and the v20. I also had the hct 10.
I love the amoled screen for samsung but i was getting tired of not having something a little newer.
The v20 has s good processor and is managing heat a ton better then i imagined after their last few phone's.
The screen is big.. Overall color is that of a lcd. Cf lumen or any 9other color adjustment is a good option when rooted
The battery is fair. It is removable so that i guess is a plus.
No wireless charging
Finger print scanner
Dual cameras are cool.. Still some grain on screen when taking photos that shouldn't be there. It dosnt actually effect photo tho.
Ir sensor on top is nice. It reads and sends thats a huge plus.
Type c port is nice
Sd card slot.
I mean overall its not bad at all.. There could be some adjustments to speaker quality and the 2nd screen utilization. Its fast and sturdy.. Probably lgs best phone they've put together.. But the note 7 still would have killed it cold if it hadn't been recalled.

Agreed speaker could use a definite update only company that seems to do decent in this department is HTC.
I also think the options for the second screen when it is on should be the same as when it is off, the options when the screen is off is pretty limited.
I would agree on the note 7, in fact I was considering a jump from the v10 until all that battery bs happened.
If the Note 8 offers a removable battery I will definitely upgrade but that's very unlikely. I like getting aftermarket batteries for my phones and a battery charging case isn't the same in my opinion.

I was a huge fan of the Samsung Note line and I had every one of them up to the Note Edge (which is what I had up until I got the V20), but personally I had to draw the line when Samsung started trying to be like Apple and did away with expandable storage and removable battery with the Note 5.
It's just a shame because I actually really liked the Super Amoled screens and especially the S-Pen, but I just refuse to own a phone that can't be rooted, doesn't have expandable storage, and doesn't have an IR blaster (because I literally use it to control my entire house).
With that being said the only real option for me was the V20 and to be honest I was actually surprised to see all the negativity towards it, I love my V20 and I'm still extremely glad that I got it because I was honestly worried about whether I'd like it or not (especially just coming off of 6 plus years of having nothing but Samsung phones).
I love the placement of the fingerprint scanner/power button and it's just nice to finally have a fingerprint scanner that actually works right for once, and overall the V20 has been smooth as butter for me with impressive battery life, I really like and use the crap out of the dual cameras, and overall it's been hands down the best phone I've had to date.
To each their own of course but for me at least it covers all the "requirements" I look for in a phone, which unfortunately is getting to be like finding a diamond in the rough nowadays.. so I'm glad I found it!

V20 is is missing one thing though. A stylus. Other than that everything else trumps the note series handily.
I never used the stylus on my Notes for anything except doing a screen capture. On my V20 I have a screen cap icon setup on my buttons below the dock. Right between the home and recent app button.
Love my V20.
