Device: XT1527 (MOTO E 4G LTE)
I know the device does not support 5ghz for wifi.
Sometimes some devices come with the 5ghz mode for the hotspot even though the wifi ac, 5ghz, option is not available, for e.g Samsung Avant.
Can anyone who owns this device find out for me if the device has the option to launch hotspot in 5ghz mode?
It should be in the configure menu under tethering and hotspot right under where you choose a password.
I really appreciate everyone's effort.
Thanks
No, it hasn't.

On the specs it says the phone supports wireless n (802.11n), but when i go to settings and search for networks it wont show my local wireless n network, is it the phone or just wp7 that currently doesn't support wireless n?!
No problem with wireless N here. But WP7 doesn't support hidden networks. Make sure your wireless network is visible. Also not clear is whether or not the phone can connect to 5GHz band.

This is one of those unusual known software issues. The phone is capable of n, but the mediocre wifi software/interface the the phone is packaged with has no options to enable it. This is set to be a first round fix. Chalk this up there with the no hidden SSID's support right now.
There is no good reason as to why your phone cannot do this now and you probably could go into the diagnosis panel and figure it out, but that is not the users responsibility.
MS must have a great reason, but it is not readily apparent.
Yeah my router does 2.4ghz G & N plus 5ghz N; so it connects but it would be nice to know what it is connecting at. I am sure it doesn't do 5ghz because that ssid is not found as an option but it would be nice to know it is connecting to the N 2.4 and not the G.
It doesn't support 5ghz N. I had to change my router back to 2.4.

Or you can just let it connect to 2.4 11g instead. There is no benefit for it to be in 11n other than burn your battery faster.
My router is set on 5ghz wireless n, so i guess that's why the phone cant show the ssid.
Hiya folks I am hunting a widget to toggle between 5ghz and 2.4ghz, I am running a Carbon Rom and my router supports dual although my lovely Nexus will only connect to my 2.4 network if on auto, I have to use advance settings in wifi and select 5ghz only, so I would like to turn on 5ghz whilst at home at a flick off a switch!
cheers all43
I have a dual band router, and it has 2 separate SSID's - one for 2.4 GHz and one for 5 GHz. Can you just "forget" the 2.4 GHz network on your phone, or do you only see one network?
My 2.4 has better range (of course not speed) and all my 'other' wifi spots out and about are 2.4 only, also when in auto network my Nexus only sees 2.4ghz.
Edit
Bad manners...forgot to say thank you for your reply.
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge running android 7.0
I'm trying to add some Sonoff devices to my works WiFi network, via the eWeLink app. The app only supports 2.4ghz but my phone has a preference for the 5ghz network. Both 2.4 and 5ghz are using the same SSID and because of other devices connected I can't rename one or temporarily turn off 5ghz...
Any way round this other than buying an old phone or tablet just for adding devices?
ever since i updated my phone i can't seem to connect to my wifi 5Ghz channel on other hand my wifi 2.4Ghz channel and my neighbors will appear normally only 5Ghz that won't appear at all
also before Oreo there was switch so that either you see only 5Ghz or only 2.4Ghz or both but now that gone.
can anyone help me on fixing this ?
also to let you know i'm rooted and i have tried Wifi extend module also wifi bonding module and nothing my 5GHz wifi doesn't appear .
I'm currently on havoc 2.9 final build and i can't enable wifi hotspot on 5ghz ap band, even though the rom has an option for the same. As soon as i enable hotspot with 5ghz selected, it throws an error. My question is, is it possible to enable 5ghz hotspot on our device? Through some kernel or by tweaking system files perhaps? Thanks.
lul our wifi HW doesnt support 5ghz
Not possible hardware does not support it. Swap/buy a new device
