hey all
as the title says iam confused between Xperia Z and S4 iam not a fanboy but here i will say why iam confused
1-processor: i asked ppl who said that octa=quad in performance only better in battery life as its 2 quad processor (so almost the same)
2-Screen:Super Amoled Vs TFT idk which better actually both appeal to me one is Siturated and the other is natura...we cant forget about bravia engine 2 in Z
3-Camera: Ofcourse all samples say that S4 is better here but when i asked developers they ssaid its only because of OVER COMPRESSION is xperia z which could be fixed on the next update is that true?(as S4 has camera features i see that Xperia Z has HDR Video....so software vs hardware feature.....i think software can be added but hardware cant)
4-sound: No Doubt that S4 is much louder in outer speaker but does it rly matter? for me if i want to listen 2 music i will use headphones which r much better in xperia z in quality
5-Duribility:why shall i talk about this? it already goes for xperia z
6-BATTERY:well....2600vs 2330.....but 2600 with much sensors and amoled display(which i heard that it uses more energy that TFT but not sure) and 2330 with stamina mode that can be great.........another confusion here
7-at last....s4 is more expensive than xperia that about 1000EGP(egyptian pound)....does it worth?
thanks all in advance
This sounds more like a review than a question...
I personally think Xperia screen is horrible. Granted, I prefer SAMOLED, but there are absolutely gorgeous LCD displays like the One X (whose screen I still think is the best among LCD) or the One. Xperia Z's display I can't stand. And sound quality isn't particularly impressive either, from what I gather.
AMOLED doesn't necessarily use more energy, and Xperia Z even seems to perform worse than S4 in web browsing, which is where AMOLEDs tend to consume more battery due to white background:
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s4_vs_sony_xperia_z-review-915p3.php
And what makes you think that Xperia Z has "much better" sound quality?
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s4_vs_sony_xperia_z-review-915p6.php
Seriously, despite your "disclaimer", I doubt if you're looking for anything really. Might be wrong, obviously.
It is true that the Xperia Z compresses images a lot more. They're only about half the size of S4's images.
The Z screen sucks badly compared to the One or S4. Sony did a very poor job there.

And durability - being waterproof is NOT the same as being durable, for the record. It may or may not be, just saying.
the reason octa-core supposedly saves battery life is because it has a low power quad core for when it doesnt need to perform heavy tasks, but a faster quad core for when its being taxed more.
the lower voltage, high endurance slower quad core helps to save battery life by shutting off the high powered one.
The waterproofing is apparently the reason the screen looks so bad, according to Techno Buffalo.

The Z1 is a blurry mess on that last photo of the mountain. Looks much better in the rest though. I'd say the Nokia is best, but not by much.
The Nokia destroyed them.
Second is the note 3 and unfortunately third is the Z1

yes... it's right... this is my opinion too
Inviato dal mio C6903 utilizzando Tapatalk
i think the Nokia comes first.
Then it's Note 3 and Z1 same. Z1 has more detail but more noise. Note 3 has less detail but less noise.
The Nokia wins then the Z1 and last but not least the Note 3

Nokia wins.
Colours are far too bright on the other 2
Z1 vs 1520
Hi,
I have Sony Z1 and Nokia Lumia 1520; i take pictures with both since weeks, months; my favorite is the INCREDIBLE NOKIA (Too much noise with Z1)
Regards
1520 kills all. Contrast, color reproduction and dynamic range are so good. About detail, quite similar, but 1520 has the best FoV.
Note 3 seems overly sharp - due to the aggressive algorithm. I don't know, basic comsumers will prefer it, but look at the leaves of the tree, a little bit "abnormal" for me. However, IMO, overall still looks better than Z1. Z1 has nothing so special compared to the other two. Look at the rock of the mountain below and we can see how Note 2 is still better.
One thing about the white balance, I think on 1520 and Z1 a little bit too warm, and a little bit too cold on Note 2. In average is the best.
in these two compares, note 3 is really terrible, knocks out first.
For sure NOKIA is better that SONY here.but far objects in z1 are more bright.but totally 1520 is one step above z1..
hope some CAMERA SOFTWARE improvements on z1 on KitKat.because everyone knows the camera hardware on z1 is really better that those two
Clearly the Nokia has better contrast, and depth of field. The Nokia image is wider angle, combined with a .4 of an f stop advantage with such small image sensors will make a substantial difference to distant objects appearing to be in focus.
On a side note, if you reduce the Sony image down to the same size as the Nokia, then they are much closer in terms of quality.
Sony need to be more smart with their image processing, still far too aggressive with the noise reduction significantly hurting the final result.
Hi !
I have an Xperia S which is dead now :crying: and am looking for a new phone at the moment.
Originally, I was looking at the Moto G 16gb but its got a very bad camera and lack of upgradable storage. So, I'm wondering whether the SP have a good camera or not !
BTW, what about the 4.4 availability ?
Is there any stable 4.4 custom ROM for SP ?
Sp is a good phone. Has a great camera. And feels premium to hold. In fact when my friend got it, I liked it so much that I sold my Galaxy s4 and bought an xperia z. Hope this helps.
Plus Sony makes camera modules for a lot of other manufacturers like Apple iPhones. Samsung galaxy series. So u almost always get a. Good camera with a mid range and higher sony phones

Yeah but I read a review saying that the 8 mp camera of the Xperia SP is very poor compared to that of the Xperia L.
I work in a machine design company and I have to take a lot of photos and videos of our products for making quick demos and filing the records. That implies I need a decent camera phone.
The Xperia S and the Samsung Wave I had were good performers in that regard.
I would be checking out the Xperia SP and the Galaxy S4 Mini and may be some LG phones today at this new shopping mall that opened in my city. If I'm not happy, I'll be going for the Moto G.
Its gonna be a good night
For the price you'd be hard pushed to beat the Moto G -- at only £120 sim free for the 8GB model it's an absolute bargain, but it's also a solid performer and has already been updated to 4.4.
Honestly speaking, you'd have to be getting a very good deal to make buying an Xperia SP now a good choice as it's already a year old and even at best would only be officially supported for another six months, which means that bug fixes and other software updates will dry up soon.

if you need a good camera, why not go for the Z1 or Z1 compact?
Xperia SP's camera is a huge disappointment, if that's a big thing for you, looks elsewhere. I read that GS4 mini's camera is pretty good (though, it's only 5mpx, if I recall). Where XSP shines is in it's processing power, since it has a decent processor and Adreno 320 GPU, which GS4 mini lacks. However, the lack of KitKat and 1GB of RAM make the Xperia SP hard to recommend.
You should also check Xperia ZR, where I live, it is just $10-$15dls more expensive than Xperia SP. xperia ZR is water-proof and has a 13MPX with a Quad-Core processor.
Xperia Sp camera its no so good. It you want a good camera phone buy a lumia 920/925 or a Galaxy s3 it you want android.

I'm from India and I'm getting the Xperia SP for ~300 USD (18000 INR) and yeah the Moto G 16 GB is available here for ~233 USD.
As for updates, I don't care as long as there is custom ROMs available.

After dropping the ZR from my list, I thought about getting the S3 but I hear its battery backup is not that great and yeah, I hate the rounded design Samsung uses. I think their Bada phones look much much better.
BTW, there are some rumers about the Xperia M2 and Xperia G being priced really low to compete with the Moto G. I wonder how low Sony would go in pricing them !
Xperia SP's camera is so pathetic that I am sure Moto G's pics will be much better than SP's. The reason I bought SP is its processing power and awesome design.

BTW, if mediatek guys were a bit more "open", the Huawei Ascend g700 would have been a great buy for me....great camera, lots of RAM, good IPS Lcd display etc. But,AFAIK, there is no custom ROMs or any other development for that phone because there is minimal support from mediatek for custom android development projects
You are concerned about SP camera but not about moto G camera? Haha. My friend has moto G, ant trust me, if you need (seems like that's your main priority) decent camera dont eve think about moto G. I have chosen SP over moto G and they both are about the same price.
Yet if you have doubts about SP camera, you can look into S3/S4mini (I considered those as options for me, but SP in overall seemed a better choice) or lumia 920 (I also considered this, but I need option too record my calls and WPs cant offer this yet L920 camera is amazing and I would assume price would be similar if its still available in sale).

I thought Moto G's camera was betther than SP's
The problem with Samsung is that their designs look so awful to me. Sony and HTC are much much better.
I'm an Opera Mini/Mobile/Desktop addict, can't use any other browser (lots of bookmarks and notes in the Opera in my account) and sadly, that rules WP devices like 920.
My options currently:
1. Blackberry Z10. If it has an android ROM, I would be going for this one but there isn't any AFAIK.
2. Upcoming Xperia G
3. Xperia SP
4. Xperia ZR
5. Samsung GS4 Mini
6. Samsung GS3
trust me

Good to know that we are on the same track about Samesong. I hate them.
Z10 was an option for me too, but it was too little hardware for the the price for me, so I left it out yet it seems to work flawlessly in youtube videos. Also it is very sexy device and since 10.2.1 OS update it supports .apk files so basically its an android with Blackberry stuff. Why would you need a ROM for Z10? Just for sake of flashing something or there is serious reason?
Xperia G seems ok. Is it known when it will be available? Are you ready to wait (and possibly wait to find out if you would afford it when its released)?

If your deciding factor is based the camera, I suggest you check this out:
http://www.gsmarena.com/piccmp.php3?idType=3&idPhone1=5831&idPhone2=5364
As you can see, the SP may have a bigger pixel count but the image is over processed and has a lot of chromatic noise. If you need to zoom into a picture to look at small text, it may not be an ideal phone for you.
However, as an overall package (build quality, performance, battery life) it's probably the best phone in its price range.

Yes, I love the launchers for the Android and the look and feel of different ROMS like MIUI, CM etc. Its so amazing. I don't think the BB10 would support that much of customization
I'm waiting for the Xperia G..hope that I can afford it.

The Moto G and the SP look so awful, doesn't it ? Samsung S4 mini's pic look really nice and detailed even matching the iPhone 5.
@x.marX
Go get Moto X.
Period.
I don't know where you reside , but if you have got access to Moto Maker , get a customized Moto X. The camera and the processioning power is alot better than Xperia SP. But Xperia SP's design is far better than its competitors.
But since Xperia SP is getting old, I think Moto X would be a better choice regarding the future updates , camera and performance.

We have Moto X here but the full fledged Moto Maker won't be ready any time soon.
I'm not a big fan of Moto X btw.
1. "Rounded design" - not my cup of tea
2. Memory not expandable - I have a lot of FLAC audio files
3. Non-removable battery
Only advantage of SP over G is the memocard and LTE.
If you can live without them get MotoG/16GB and you'll be OK.
I changed from Moto G to SP, but regret it...

If possible try to save enough money for Xperia ZR or LG Optimus G. Since both the product are getting pretty old, you may have huge discounts on them.
Guys, don't worry for your device(Z Play) because of the newer Z2 play.
The performance is better in z play even though specs are higher in Z2.
Z2 play only has some newer features and a slimmer look:
Fingerprint gestures
Voice Command
Night light mode
Only best in it is improved Camera and slimmer look.
According to the Verge Z2 play performance isn't good as our Z Play.
(See the image attached below)
Also see CNet review: (see image attached below)
Cheers!!
By performance I hope you meant battery performance. Cause Z2 is better than Z in everything else, apart from price

I don't see the upgrade being worth it. I love the 625, would love a626, but it's kind of worse than oneplus 3 versus op3t..
At least oneplus went 3000mah battery, sd 820 to 3400 mah sd 821 and DOUBLED the mp of the selfie cam..Here we get a smaller battery, a marginally better camera and processor... I'll be keeping my z play as well brother. I might look at the z2 droid when it lowers in price though if it has a headphone jack.. Otherwise I'll keep my 9hr+ heavy use sot. ???

Hehe yea!
I got my play on the day that the announcement of the new mk2 was made.
The biggest issue is the slimming down of the battery i think...
The ones that wanted the slimmer size phone got the regular Z so why was there even a need to slim down the play ?
Especially since the bigger battery is a very good USP for the play...
How else would motorola get people to buy battery mods for Moto Z2 Play.
Clearly Moto thought the battery was "too good" marketing and bean counters only wanted to make sure it lasted ONE day not two... lol
