Hi guys, I wanted to ask what would happen if installed lollipop on my s4 that wasn't from the same network. I bought my s4 from Amazon unlocked, so if I get the firmware off sammobile and if I get an EE(EE is a mobile network) firmware, does that mean my phone will work with EE network only? I am thinking of getting the BTU version. http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/GT-I9505/BTU/
Another question, does xposed work well with lollipop? I currently have it installed and use snapshare and snapsave, greenify etc...
In your case, since the S4 is unlocked there are no restrictions on what firmware you can install. In addition, the SIM will work in the S4 regardless of which firmware you installed, as the S4 is unlocked. However, for best results you should stick to using unbranded firmware such as BTU. While one benefit is the lack of bloatware in the unbranded firmware, using an unbranded firmware in your device ensures that any carrier modifications made to the firmware don't wreak havoc on your phone.
Xposed is working to an extent. Check out the Xposed thread for details.

Thank you, if I dont like lollipop, is it possible to easily downgrade back to kitkat?
You shouldn't have much trouble with downgrading if you don't like Android 5.x.

I tried to find something for this specific question, and I apologize ahead of time if it's already answered.
I purchased a Galaxy Note 3 on Best Buy's website, and I got an unlocked N900w8 model. Seems to be the mexican variant, not the canadian version. Still has no kitkat update, and it has LTE.
I have T-Mobile, and would like Kitkat right now, and since the Galaxy note 3 T-Mobile version already has Kitkat, can I flash it with the T-Mobile stock ROM? Or will I run into issues?
From what I have found, both have the same feature set, including the same LTE frequencies.
If knox not already tripped, you can follow this guide to not trip it if you want to root, install custom recovery/rom , also you can go back to 4.3. Otherwise you can flash tmo firmware and there wont be any issue.

Ok so just to confirm, when you say "otherwise", so I can just flash a kitkat t-mobile firmware on this, and it'll work just fine without issue? Talking stock kitkat t-mobile firmware, here in the US on this hardware.
It's not currently rooted at all, no mods done period so far.
I recently purchased a Galaxy S4 i9505 on EE from Carphone Warehouse, and flashed the 5.0.1 BTU firmware. After I did that I then read I'd need to be carrier unlocked, but I tried calling and receiving calls and messages and using 4g and it worked fine. I also saw some posts about flashing modems. Anyway I'm really confused about what I need to do; should I try and unlock or not. Thanks everyone for your help.
The BTU firmware has no carrier branding, which means it has no carrier logos or bloatware included in it. Other than the lack of carrier doodads, it's the same firmware. You shouldn't need to flash a modem as you already have the latest, from when you installed the BTU ROM. However, the S4 would need to be unlocked for use on any carrier if your SIM isn't an EE SIM. But, you either have an EE SIM, in which case you don't need to worry about it, or the S4 was unlocked by the store that sold it, in which case you don't need to worry about it.
TL;DR: Don't touch the ROM. Don't worry too much about the SIM because you can make calls and use data. You don't need to flash a modem.
So I got an ATT S8 the G950U version. I unlocked it via ATT with their unlock code.
since then using it on Indian carrier Airtel. I am not been able to get any software updates. Whenever I check for the updates it says its up to date. But its stuck at build number G950USQU1AQC9 and security patch of 1 march 2017.
How do I update this? Do I need to flash ATT software via ODIN? but I need to retain the unlocked status.
You wont get OTA unless you have an ATT sim in it i Think. Just flash G950U1 firmware which is the unlocked version sold by samsung.
I bought a sprint s8 and flashed G950U1 firmware and using on Airtel. Moreover you wont have any carrier bloatware.
It seems Smart Switch also updates when applying initialize. Not connecting your phone before starting up SS gives you the option to input model - and serial #.
And to my knowledge, once unlocked (free to use any SIM) stays unlocked.

Did you flash it with Odin? AFAIK its the only way for snapdragon models. Been away from android tinkering for a long while. Can you point me to relevant threads?
P.S. Are you able to get OTA now?
I have a similar issue but in the UK. Can't see OTA updates and it says up to date in Smart Switch. Is flashing the stock firmware risky or break knox? What are my options?
Search Updato.com for the latest G950U1 firmware. (XAA version is the best region to use in your case). Use THIS version of Odin to flash: http://dl.psouza4.com/android/Odin3_v3.12_PrinceComsy.zip
You will not get updates normally if you don't. Your phone is trying to contact AT&T servers but you don't have their sim card so it's not going to let you download it.

Be careful, the latest u1 firmware is a rev2 bootloader. It will probably be rootable like the n8 one is but no one has confirmed yet. There are also no ready to flash rooted ROMs with it
Root is worthless anyway.
I have a question. I have the Unlocked AT&T Samsung Galaxy S8 (didn't realise it was AT&T until I received it and turned it on) and when I go to update the software it says it is up to date but it is not. How do I update my software? I am not rooted or anything, the phone is in its normal state.
Is it an unlocked S8 with AT&T firmware or an unlocked AT&T S8? Also, what carrier are you using?
Either way, you can use Odin to flash the newest firmware. Search Updato.com for the firmware for G950U (AT&T variant if you want bloat) or for the G950U1 if you want actual unlocked firmware with no bloat. However, the newest that they have posted if CRF5 and CG3 just came out the other day.
I asked about carrier because:
If you're running on Tmobile for example, use the tmobile firmware. You'll have bloat but you'll get all the features and you'll be good to go on updates.
If you're using Tmobile and want Unlocked firmware download the TMO coded U1 firmware and again, you'll be good with updates.
@jpcdeux I would think it has AT&T firmware because it came with a few AT&T apps on it. However, it is not locked to at&t so I am able to use it in my country (St. Kitts).
Would I have to root?
No, rooting is not required to flash unlocked firmware
Thanks much @jpcdeux
Hey Everybody,
So I've come to realize that my unlocked US S10+ on AT&T didn't have VOLTE or Wifi calling as options in the communication/call settings menus. this is pretty disappointing as it seems that using the unlocked phone with Verizon you get these features, and they make a decent impact on my use of the phone.
My understanding is if I flash the ATT firmware to the phone I would get the functions, so being an amateur I followed some simple guides to SamFirm AND ODIN, and downloaded the ATT CSC firmware for my model number. However after going through the Odin process and resetting my phone it is still showing the same Software information as prior to my installation, and I do not have the features.
I saw a thread on the board stating that the ATT firmware isn't available yet, so I'm not sure if what I downloaded was actually any different than what is on my phone, and my phones "Service Provider Software Version" did already have ATT in the description, which is a bit confusing to me.
Am I correct in understanding the only way to get the features would be through a firmware flash? And would anyone know if I had flashed the right firmware, and what the original firmware CSC would be for my model if I needed to revert?
My information is:
Model Number:
SM-G975U1 (S10+ ceramic white 512GB - Unlocked US)
Service Provider SW ver.:
SOAMC_SM-G975U1_OYM_ATT_PP_0018
R38M205LY2B

If it's anything like the S9 was, you can't just ODIN the firmware/CSC. You'll just get the bloat with none of the features you want.

I've heard this as well. If you want those features on a Samsung phone, it has to be at&t branded. I ordered an at&t phone from Samsung since I make good use of wifi calling. It works fine on my unlocked P3XL but no dice on the Samsungs.
I have the same phone and service and when I went to update my imei they told me it could not find the phone. So I was without lte/4g for a day until I gave them a imei to a s8 active. Now I have data at least

So I have the same service provider software, on my unlocked s10+, however when I went into an ATT store and looked at a branded S10+
I noticed the service provider software version to be : SOAMC_SM-G975U1_OYM_ATT_PP_0033( thirty three at end),
so anyway to update the service provider version? does that come from the SIM ??
I have an unlocked S10 plus and I flashed the AT&T Firmware. I now have VoLTE and WiFi calling unlocked on my phone using AT&T. You need to make sure you flash the U version of the firmware, not the U1 one. Unlocked S10 is using the U1 firmware already so flashing that one again changes nothing.

Where did you get the att firmware?
Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
I kinda doubt it but did any of you with unlocked phones that flashed the AT&T firmware get any better service? I've been considering it to get VOLTE but just wondered

I followed this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s10/how-to/att-ota-ota-updates-t3909697
At first like you I downloaded the wrong version and nothing changed. I finally flashed G975USQU1ASBA and now have VOLTE/WIFI Calling and of course all of the bloat. But at least those two functions are working. Make sure that you complete a clean flash when I did a dirty flash I had problems sticking on the loading screen.
I believe you just need to call in ATT to take care those carrier specific features .
Which firmware can I flash with Odin to my S10+ Xfinity Mobile unlocked to get AT&T OTA updates? Currently have ASF7 flashed from the latest unknown firmware uploaded to Sammobile. I flashed w/o USERDATA. I just want to be able to get future OTA updates as I just switched my carrier from Metro by T-Mobile to AT&T. I was using U1 US unlocked firmwares on my Note9 & S10+ but want to use carrier perks now with AT&T.
What's with AT&T being the only ones to not release update files? You would think they all would be required to release them. More AT&T customers need kick up a fuss about it.
