Getting better 4G coverage and MMS to work on T-Mobile - Ascend Mate 7 General

I got to noticing the MMS not working and I was losing 4G easily. So I took a look at the APN's and noticed they were different from they were on my LG GFlex. So if you're experiencing the same issues try this.
Add another APN:
The only lines you need to fill in are the ones I list below.....
NAME - T-Mobile LTE
APN - fast.T-Mobile.com
MMSC - http//:mms.msg.engine.T-Mobile.com/MMS/wapenc
MMS Proxy - proxy.T-Mobile.com
APN Type - default,MMS,supl,dun
Just add those 5 lines and the rest that are filled in by default due to your sim card can be left as is And any other lines that are "not set" can stay that way.
Then save and return to the APN screen that allows you to select which APN.
Select your newly added APN.
Now reboot to ensure you're switched over to it.
And now you should have better 4G coverage and working MMS.

[GUIDE] Getting MMS/AGPS To Work

Summary:
Some providers make use of a different APNs for MMS and data. In such cases, leaving the APN type as "" will cause MMS not to work (see History for explanation). To fix this, we have to ensure the following:
Data APN Types are set to "default", or "default,supl" (if you're having issues with AGPS, use the supl one)
MMS APN Types are set to "mms"
In other words, APN types should not be left blank for any APN. Hope it helps. For a detailed description read below.
History:
Hi all,
I previously had MMS working perfect after following this instructions: http://www.systemscrafter.com/imho/archives/6, but since I switched to CyanogenMod BETA 3 MMS hasn't been working for me.
After some testing, I've found out the following. It seems that under APN Type, the one you use for data MUST be designated as "default", and for the MMS one, as "mms". Lower-case. The apns-conf.xml left out the "default".
Secondly, after doing that, it still did not work reliably. This was solved by removing one of the data APNs. In Cyan's apns-conf.xml, there were "Gee! (GPRS)" and "StarHub Internet". These 2 are essentially the same APN point (one uses proxy, one does not), configuration wise, just given different names. I removed "Gee! (GPRS)" and entered "default" under "StarHub Internet", and MMS is now working perfect.
Update: xiutian had a simpler fix. Simply go to "Gee! (GPRS)" and "StarHub Internet", make sure both of them are set to APN type "default". It works, just tested. In other words, never leave the "APN type" blank. It has to be either "default" or "mms". (Any other values? not too sure...)
Update #2: cyanogen has kindly informed me that setting it to "default" may cause AGPS to stop working. After doing some searching, I found this: http://www.nexusoneforum.net/forum/...how-can-i-get-internet-work-my-nexus-one.html. Apparently, setting it to "" makes Android use it for everything, which explains why MMS was not working for some of us. To fix the AGPS part, instead of using "default", we now use "default,supl".
Update #3: @bcpk on Twitter has kindly pointed me to the following article: http://wccftech.com/2010/09/09/solving-gps-nofix-problem-cyanogenmod-6-nexus/ Do check it out if you're having issues with CM6.
Hope it helps some of you.

I'm sorry to say that it did not help me.
I'm on Orange in Switzerland.
I had to input the apn myself and don't see where i can make it default or not.
Could you please provide me with a little more info?
Thanks
I went thru the APN list and made the necessary corrections. Will include in beta4.
The file is here if you have anything to add:
http://github.com/cyanogen/android_vendor_cyanogen/blob/eclair/prebuilt/etc/apns-conf.xml
Awsome
For Orange CH I've found 2 things that work for me,
1) apn internet
mcc 228
mnc 03
2) apn wap
proxi 192.168.010.002
port 8080
mcc 228
mnc 03
Both these settings work to get data, but I still havent managed to find the correct mms settings, and the shop not only wants me to leave them the phone for an hour or 2 (i wonder why) but then they want me to pay them extra for the mms info..BS
I've been searching on the web but all the settings I've found and tried are not working.

When entering your APN, scroll to the bottom, there's a option "APN type", tap on that and type in "default". To be honest I don't know why Google can't make it a ListBox where we can choose from...

ahhh thanks,
I always thought apn type had something to do with the operator and therefor never even tapped on in.
I'll keep trying then with some of the settings I've found online, set the internet one to default, and see what happens, as soon as I can
Lou
I'm on Centennial Wireless. I had the internet working since day 1. But this didn't help with the mms. It does seem 2 almost connect now that I put mms in type, but still no go.
success
yeaaayyy i finally got it.
Orange switzerland has 2 sets of settings, one for data and one for mms.
I had the correct information for both, but my mistake was in the apn type field.
So I went ahead and made the main data on default,supl and the other mms et voila...thanks...that link helped
L
esincho: More info would be good. You put "mms" in type for your MMS APN, right? What about your Data APN? What did you put in type for that?
Seems that the new Nexus One update has an updated apns-conf.xml.
Some of the settings have changed, particularly StarHub.
Code:
<apn carrier="StarHub"
mcc="525"
mnc="05"
apn="internet"
type="default,supl"
/>
<apn carrier="Gee! MMS"
mcc="525"
mnc="05"
apn="shmms"
mmsc="http://mms.starhubgee.com.sg:8002"
mmsproxy="10.12.1.80"
mmsport="80"
type="mms"
/>
I've also uploaded it here: http://www.androidspin.com/downloads.php?dir=wysie/MISC/&file=apns-conf.xml

sorry bro U right. I'm not new 2 having 2 put in these settings, cause I am on Centennial and I buy all my phones unlocked cause Centennial phones suck. My internet works fine, 4 it under type I put default,supl cause I read somewhere this is what 2 put. Like I say, I have all the right mms info from the carrier cause I'm use 2 putting it in. I shows like it's connecting, but it don't maintain connection.
I just received a mms and was able 2 open it, but I still can't send any.

Uff, thanx this helped me. Now I can use MMS on Orange Austria.
how can i verify AGPS is working?
htc magic next to my n1 seems to show more accurate position, and we're in door so it couldn't be pure gps
I can't seem to have MMS working on my N1. I am in Honduras and the settings seems to be pretty str8forward but my MMS are not going out.
I've set up the 2 apn and tried both the "default" and "defaul,supl" setting but nothing. The message is never sent out. I seems like the application is calling the APN but then it stops. I can see that for a second the icon of the Edge connection disappears when trying to send the MMS.
How would you configure your apn with the following settings :
nombre de la configuracion: MMS Claro
Pagina de inicio: 10.6.32.27/servlets/mms
Punto de Acceso o (apn): mms.megatel.hn
Dirreccion IP: 010.006.032.002

I'm on AT&T right now,
i use APNdroid to disable Data, but i still want to be able to use MMS, so i set APNdroid to still allow MMS, and i made anothe APN with the necessary info and as APN type MSS
but it doesn't seem to work, any input?
after some fiddling with it i fixed it myself
i took the default APN added MMS as APN type
and told APNdroid to ALLOW 3g data (so practically not use apndroid)
and NO MMS Port as seen at some other places, MMS port is <not set>
For those who wanna see entire settings for JUST MMS (not data)

MMS Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS Port: <not set>
MCC: 310
MNC: 410

APN Type: mms
using APNdroid to disable Data and keeping MMS doesn't work, just set the APN type to MMS and you're good..
if you want to use both MMS and Data just keep the APN type field <not set>
DATA/MMS
Thanks to wysie i was able to get data on internet2.voicestream with apn type default,supl and mms on epc.tmobile.... would anyone else know how to set up the apn for other apps like t-mobile my account that uses epc.tmobile.... what apn type would that be so android knows to switch it to that apn to access info?

MMS not working for me ?
AF9210: From what I know there's only <blank>, default, supl and mms .
MarkM83: More info?
Thank you soo much Wysie. you have no idea how long i've been searching for a solution to my mms/data issue on my Hero and then Nexus after it. I owe you a couple o beers

Disable data while allowing mms

Still can't figure this out. Trying apndroid but not working. Do I need to turn on or off n e thing in settings?? Data? 2g only? According to statement online, still going online
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I think this depends on your carrier's apn settings.
On Orange in the UK, I have separate apns for data and mms, so I can disable or enable them separetely.
Other carriers use a single apn for both however.
there is no way to do this because of the way android uses access points. i know, i want to do this too. i dont like how android only has either on or off data. other phones, like my symbian devices for example, data only turns on when you open an app that needs data. and when you close that app the data session terminates, which saves a tremendous amount of battery life.
android on the other hand keeps an always-on data connection, no matter what, even when the phone is not doing anything or using any data. this is why android devices get such poor battery life compared to other devices.
yah. in settings, theres only 1 apn for t-mobile. thats sucks. some ppl said apndroid works but i cant seem to figure out a way to make it not go on net while allowing mms. that sux. =3 was soo hoping i can use mms now since my old 1st gen iphone couldnt
thats kinda stupid too cuz im tryin to accept pictures which should theoretically count as just messages or counted under the texting plan (unlimited for me) but the phone uses "data" to download it.
I don't see the point on using mms at all in smartphones, it is so much easier to just attach the picture to an email.
Well, for me at least, since my carrier gives me unlimited data an no mms at all. But still, its been ages I don't get an mms from someone.
Back to the topic, unless you have separated apn for data and mms there's no way to disable one and keep the other. At least I don't know how.

I'm pretty sure if you create a APN with only the MMS settings, and set it as MMS type, it should only do mms.
OP, have you called your carrier and asked them for proper APN settings for what you want to to do?

i dont think that will work. he currently has mms working fine. this is a limitation with android OS. for example symbian you can turn off the data connection, and when an mms comes in, the data turns on and retrieves the message, then closes the data connection. android cannot do this. with android data is either on completely, all the time, or off completely all the time. and since mms grabs the pic via the data connection, it wont work if data is turned off.

i stand corrected, i was wrong i thought it was tied to the system data connection.
Yeah, just create a second APN and set its type to 'mms'. Keep your main one as type 'default, supl'. That way, you can disable your main APN and your MMS will still work fine (if that's what you want)
when i change the 2nd one to mms, i lose the dot next to the APN to enable it? i tried deleting the 1st apn but i cant recieve again
umm im confused what are you trying to do? receive mms? i have the 10 tmobile data plan and what i did was change the default apn name to
T-Mobile US-MMS
then the apn type to
mms
create a second apn and name it
T-Mobile US

[Q] Can't set APN to Dynamic or blank - no 3g connection

HTC desire Z - android 2.2 - Virtuous ROM.
I'm out in Lithuania and get prepaid internet service.
Unfortunately there is NO APN to be set for connection. Whatever I fill in APN field it just doesn't work.
Ont the other side it works well in my laptop modem or WM6 phone with settings for "Dynamic APN" or in case of WM6 if APN field is left blank it simply works like a charm.
The main problem could be that I can't set an EMPTY apn on android system.....
Have no idea what to do now. Maybe there is some special APN type to be set or some trick to leave APN blank or to set it to Dynamic....
By the way the ISP is Tele2.lt but the usual APNs doesn't work it only works if apn left blank.
Any idea is appreciated.
Thanks,
Shef

Your answer is in the first 2 pages of this general forum. Little research will go a long way. Search for ATT apn settings.

Put in the sim card, go to settings - wireless and networks - mobile networks - check "on" Use packet data. Than press Acces point names and create new APN. Depends on what data plan you have you enter the APN settings. I am on grandfathered unlimited AT & T data plan so I created APN called cingular 410. All the settings for this APN you will find easy on this forum, if not, send me private email I will email it to you.It is not hard to set it up even if you are not really computer geek. ( I am not )

Thanks I have h+ and 3g working I just can't send pictures it just sits there with the circle rotating for ever...but I can get picture mail...what did I do wrong...PS thanks again
I was told just delete any apn in there. Create a new one and put ATT and Phone in the first two lines and the system will do the rest.
However, I have the same problem as the poster above, I can send/receive calls, get text but no picture message
It just sits there trying to send it out for ever...see picture below
At the bottom of your apn settings under apn type make sure you have internet and mms checked.
check but still no go on MMS
What is mmsc and what should that be at god this is really pissing me off I have done everything three time and still can't get it to work
I have this problem too! I added port 80 to my apn settings for mms port. At first I thought that cleared it up. But I still have a problem from time to time. Anyone?
Note: I only have issues with sending attachments, like pictures, to text messages (ie mms). Emailing attachments works fine.

Ok, I went through this drill with AT&T and it took a couple calls to get things sorted out after I activated my new line for my phone. I had precisely the same issue that you did where everything worked except MMS.
#1 - Be SURE they double checked that they provisioned your phone correctly on the back end. Unless your phone was correctly provisioned, your phone's APN settings don't mean jack. Ensure that AT&T setup your phone on the back end as though it was a Samsung Galaxy S2 (not the Skyrocket though). I had to get past tier 1 support to get my issues corrected.
#2 - Remove any and all APN entries you already have there and setup your phone as follows:
Under Settings\Mobile network settings: Use packet data (check to enable)
Tap 'Access Point Names'
Tap the menu button, left of the home button and choose 'New APN'
Name: AT&T WAP
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
Port: 80
Username <not set> - Leave this alone
Password: <not set> - Leave this alone
Server: <not set> - Leave this alone
MMSC: http:/mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication type: <not set> - Leave this alone
APN type: internet + mms
Do NOT forget to tap menu again and choose 'save'
This should work without rebooting the phone, but I rebooted mine anyway because they asked me to.
Again, make sure they correctly provisioned your phone and tell them that it should be setup as though it is a Galaxy S2 (not the Skyrocket).
My phone went from 3G/H+ with only sms and NO MMS reading/sending to full functionality once they fixed a provisioning issue AND only with the right APN settings, which AT&T gave me from their Galaxy S2 phone configs.
Enjoy.

the MMSC url should have read http with 2 slashes and not one like this: "http:/"
XDA won't let me post proper URL's until I have 8 posts, so forgive the intentional typo It keeps stopping me each time to try and find a way to fix it. I even had to wait 5 minutes to make the point of correction.
Spammers really have a way of making this suck for the rest of us...

Nope, no AT&T banner at all.
Me neither. . . My Sgt actually did have a att banner. . . Not sure that provides any insight on what a sgn should do...

Need screenshot of Verizon APNs(can't get 4G right now)

So.. I was having issues getting MMS over stock messenger. I goog-fu'd some APN settings and managed to get MMS working. So I was like "oh there's a bunch of APNs in here. I'm going to delete them". Well, after I had changed the APN and deleted all the others I realized I'm only getting 3G now instead of 4G/LTE. Now I don't have any of the other APNs that were in the phone beforehand. I live in Atlanta, so I know it's not a cell network issue.
This is the one I have now that works with MMS, but only allows 3G. I've tried a whole bunch of otheres from around the internet. Some don't even allow the APN to be saved. After I hit save it just exits the APN and the APN isn't in the APN list. I think that happens anytime the MCC <> 311 or the MNC <> 480.
So rather than somebody linking to someplace on the web, would anybody with Verizon be so kind as to post screenshots of ALL the APNs and settings that are in their APN list?
Thanks for the help!
Craig
