Did Samsung put Knox in the lollipop update for the SM-T530NU?

Yes, and they have also contaminated the kernel source with knox functions/code
in fs/sdcardfs, from there also seems to be some tie-ins in selinux as well.
Which is also likely tied in with the bootloader
I'm currently tinkering with the source to see how far across/into the source it's spread.
A side note, can we please agree to stop asking about knox?
It's here and it's staying. Let's be more concerned with and potentially class action about
what samsung is doing to the kernel source.

Sorry, last question about knox from me, could this be why I softbricked on a different device (lollipop, samsung) when I went into the /system/ folders and deleted anything and everything with knox in the name? Not important, just curious

Yes, I did the same. I wanted to see what would happen as a one off.
I plan to follow the initial services being started via .rc's and scripts in boot.img
and do a more intensive kill and see what happens.
Do you have an older firmware [by months] for sm-t530nu?
Looking for older aboot, sbl1 , etc.
give me a bit and i'll post a commit so you can see what the differences i found in kernel source are
pertaining to knox.
I apologize for being grumpy before but the usual knox whining is about warranty scamming and the like.
It's annoying. [grrrr... arf! ] xD

[PREP] Android 4.4(samsung) preparation, do's and dont's

Hey guys, as you all know the big news about how we are recieving the big android 4.4 as announced by samsung, so what do we need to do in order to prep for this release?
Heres some tips!
1. Do a full nandroid backup! Even better yet, if you know how to, convert it to a odin flashable .tar
This is so if anything goes wrong, we have some chance of fixing the device
Backup
System, data, cache, efs
2. If you dont wanna lose warranty on your device then dont bother flashing the 4.4 firmware via odin, theres a real good chance samsung implemented knox. So just wait for a dev to release a stock, rooted rom without the bootloader and knox files included.
3. If you dont care about warranty then by all means, flash the latest firmware, and when it arrives, update via odin or simply on the device itself.
So the moral here is dont flash the new bootloader until someone either confirms there is no knox. Or just wait for a dev to release a knox-free 4.4.
Take care and get ready, get set, go!
there are a two thing i worried about and that is knox and i do not expect a huge update

It is huge update but mostly under the hood changes. No cosmetic changes except the battery bar being white.
Implementation of project svelte is a huge advantage for devices having low ram.

actually ALOOT of things changed.. almost all 4.3 mods are not compatible with 4.4
1. because the android api level is higher
2. because almost every single file got a re-write

If US gets 4.4 then international certainly will as US is slower at updates than the rest of the world so theoretically the unlocked 19300 should get the updates first!

Me either, all these sites say it released but no one that i talk to that has one has the update.... so are they just going by the samsung site that you have the link to? I was pretty amped earlier when i read about this then i cant get the update. Its just disappointing lol
I'm just waiting for root for it then I will update. I don't want to update and not be able to remove the crap I don't use. If I knew how to make a rooted version, I would do it but I don't know anything about development. Oh well, I guess the wait won't kill me.
Sammy Jumped The Gun
It is starting to seem as if Samsung jumped the gun on this one. I think they released it alright, but released it to TMO for testing, etc. I know quite a few people that have this exact same model on TMO and they all live in different areas of the country. Not one has received it. Samfirmware has no link for it, and they don't even mention it. And for the most part if there is a new version out, they know and quick. And of course 4.4.4 is not available in KIES.
This is why I believe Sammy sent 4.4.4 to TMO and not to us, or at least not yet. We all know how the carriers are. At this point I'd rather not have 4.4.4 and wait for 5.0, but it will be a very long wait, unless I go CM12 when it is stable...

You're using CM-11 for the P607T model of the tablet? I've been looking for months for ROMs but haven't found any that work specifically for the P607T, which is the Tmo variant of the tablet.
Those who have 4.4.4, can you still root with Towelroot?
I am contemplating buying the P607t, which probably will have 4.4.4 by now and would not buy it if there is no root for 4.4.4 that won't trip KNOX. I returned the Wifi version for this exact reason.

I think you are absolutely correct
I just got the 4.4.4 update
Received 4.4.4 update
Update rolled out to my device as well.
I went ahead with the update, since all I really used root for was Titanium Backup and ES File Explorer.
Failed first time (likely because of root)
Removed root (under Cleanup section of super su FULL Cleanup)
Second attempt succeeded.
Towelroot failed to reroot.
If you are dependent on root, don't update until there is a new method found. Looks like towelroot is plugged on this one.

Can anyone confirm whether or not NK4 can be rooted freely at the moment? And if so, your method of choice? I've been hearing rumors about root-killing updates(especially in regards to Lollipop) and am hesitant to do any updating. I don't want to lose superuser access just so I can get an HD Voice icon.

I wouldn't use that unless you care to trip KNOX and give up warranty. If all you want is root to remove bloat and tweak you can without tripping.
I can say I am now on the official 4.4.4 update, rooted without knox flagged (IE still full warranty).
Runs great.
The only change I don't like is before I had WiFi calling always set to on and it would be on when I turned my WiFi on and not when Wifi was off.
Now if I have it on and my WiFi off, it turns my Wifi on randomly or on reboots, even if it was prior off.
Oh well.
Anyway. For those that want to root and keep Knox 0x0 (not tripped) it's simple.
I used Kies to update to the latest release (OTA kept giving an error that many others on sprint forum are getting).
After this I installed towelroot (don't run yet). Next I used Odin to flash the NE5 stock kernel. Ran towelroot, ran Odin to flash NK4 kernel back, after installed SU and now all is well. Full root, good performance and not knox tripped. One thing to note is that while on the NE5 kernel you will get tons of errors, just ignore them, the original kernel will fix when all done.
I don't care for custom recovery and the stock kernel honestly runs great and I can manually do any tweaks I want but have the piece of mind of not having tripped knox.
Just wanted to share though that this work around works on sprint. I know other forums mention how to do on other providers etc.
**update**
I posed the files I used in another thread (as seems we have duplicate topics). So if anyone needs the kernels I got em already converted to tar and ready to go.

Yea, I've been fighting hard to avoid tripping it for the moment. I mean I guess when all said and done I don't care TOO much, but for now if I can root without tripping I will do it. (resale value also higher if not tripped so might get new phone in March).
I imagine this work-around won't work when 5.0 comes out as the kernel is changing too much so unless someone finds a new exploit to root without knox trip I will probably end up tripping it upon official 5.0 lol but until that time I have some piece of mind if anything stops working.
I'm actually fine with stock I just hate all the damn bloat they put on it so have to root to ditch it all. I don't know why they don't just make it so we can uninstall whatever we want...

Performance, bug fixes etc. etc.
Remember this is already a skipped update. Sprint skipped 4.4.3.
It also includes new modem firmware among other things.
The wait game could be a bit. I don't expect Sprint to get 5.0 until around the time the S6 is releasing. Samsung is almost done with it but it takes months before Sprint will pump it out. Do you think they would have bothered with 4.4.4 if this was going to be out in a month?
I see no reason why one would wait? Nothing is lost, root is still possible. It may also be a prep for 5.0. Maybe they are using it as a firmware stepping stone. Who knows. I wouldn't bother waiting.

So you think we won't get Lollipop until April when we already have a leaked (pretty damn stable) build?? I'm sorry but that is straight up idiotic. We will have Lollipop by the end of Dec-Jan.
As of now there is no towelroot for 5.0 so you might have to. Xposed also doesn't work and might be a while before its able to run on the new platform.
I'm running the 5.0 leak now, we will definitely have Lollipop by Jan at the latest, I think more like late Dec

Might not be April but it won't be by February or probably March even.
The key word you said is "Leaked"...
Sprint had 4.4.4 builds in testing for months also, they just don't always leak out.
Just because you have a non-production version doesn't make it magically release sooner.
If you look around you will notice Sprint is generally a tad slower on some releases at times. This is because they like to wait and see what other providers do and also avoid having to do more releases.
Take Verizon S5 for example. It got 4.4.4 a lot sooner vs. we did, but the downfall was it had issues and security holes that they had to go back and patch again with more OTA's.
Sprint waited longer, didn't have to turn around and do all of this.
Waiting longer can often mean a more stable product as it allows other things to mature.
Sprint also generally doesn't like to update an phone right away if a newer model is about to come out with the new stuff also as it could cut into sales.
S5 will get 5.0 but based on how Sprint operates and historical events I don't see them doing it before a new flagship model comes out in which some people may feel they can now hold off longer. The leak FWIW is kind of like a marketing toy. It shows that they are committed to upgrading the OS so people don't do the whole "I'll never use sprint/samsung on sprint again cause they stopped updates". They are doing the updates, just doing it slower.
At the end of the day we are all speculating. You don't know for 100% just as I don't. I'm just saying (in my head at least) my thought makes more "sense".
FWIW I hope I am wrong because like you I own this phone too and want to have the new fancy stuff

(Q&A) Any major changes in final release of lollipop (India)

Those who are using Indian soak test before and now using official release in India.... Do you notice any changes?
Sent from my XT1068/69 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Soak Testers didn't get the final OTA and will not get it. Reason is, the final OTA rolled out today is the same one soak testers got. They just got it a little early. You can see in the screenshots that everything under About Phone is same in soak test version and final version.
So does this in theory then mean that those of us who installed the captured soak test from the other thread will not need to use any other captures in the future and be able to use the ota update just fine without any chances of bricks etc

I mean we'll be able to download ota's without worries of getting our phones bricked because of it being from soak. I remember reading the other day someone was talking about how if we want to be able to use ota we'd have to use a stable capture first in order to be able to use ota. It seems that won't be an issue though since soak and stable are the same with just different release dates so we shouldn't have to worry about that right? Sorry for being silly here. I'm not exactly an ape man when it comes to tech but I'm not feeling the need to fiddle around with roms and bootloaders on this phone when I shouldn't really need to

Well, it was me who said that the other day. That time the official update hadn't rolled out and we thought it would be a newer system version. But, now that it's released; we now know that it is the exact same OTA, so no problems for future updates either. It's like we never installed soak.

Yea i suspected something like that was going on when I saw that new thread about the stable and people were saying everything's exactly the same but just wanted some sort of confirmation. Now the only thing that I don't know if it'll affect anything in the future is that my build number on 4.4.4 was kxb now it's lxb (unless k stands for kitkat and l for lolipop lol. dunno) but i don't think it would be a problem since the system version has only the numbers changed and everything else is as it was on kitkat. Seems like the indian release works on european xt1068's as well contrary to what I read some people were saying but I guess it depends on some things...

That´s a mystery for sure!
The only difference between the indian and the european XT1068 is the fact, that the indian version has 16 gb of memory, european model has 8gb.
But there must be something more that differs! In europe even a soaktest is rumored, surveys were sent,so everthing looks like we have to wait in europe for a few more days/weeks.
But why? In another thread I considered that Motorola is afraid of being taken to court or something by european users if something doesn´t work right. European laws are tough. Isn´t that a bit far out?
Or are there any technical differences between these models which are barely known?

Aside from the ram I highly doubt there's any real difference since when I got mine in the first few days of fiddling around it had the hindi, korean and pinyin keyboards which i disabled so I don't think that would be the case....I mean why would most eu phones need these inputs from the get go. As far as laws go I can't really see much reasoning there either since it's a 130-50eu phone so they can't really have much to complain and unless it somehow magically bricks the device I doubt there would be many if any at all issues...Dunno doe. I'm not motorola so i have no idea what's going on through their heads but it's just kinda silly to me considering that everything's running fine on mine at least without any factory resets or anything....could be just me doe. On another note I think one of my little gripes about lollipop is that it doesn't hide the signal bar for my secondary sim when it's inactive and just shows it. Is this just for me or does everyone have that cuz I didn't pay attention to that on screenshots the last few days
Did some one backed up latest Indian Lollipop rolled on 23 Jan in TWRP in recovery mode and uploaded somewhere? Please share.

The 14th Jan one does have 1032.3105.
EDIT: Looking at a screenshot in that thread, it doesn't have the above mentioned version.
Weird though, I have installed the same version, but using a .zip captured by one soak tester. How could the version be different, when the update is same?

Yes, weird but there is reason. MD5 of old link and new capture matched perfect. Update in link by you and new both are same. Looks like Motorola fooled everyone and rolled same update again.
Anyways! Can anyone share TWRP backup of this version?
some apps bugs ..
Some apps like fifa 15 ut and some others are not supported for locked device and while installing from play store it showed error 505.

S8+ Exynos (G955F) Oreo OTA - Does anyone have the OTA file?

Does anyone have the oreo OTA file for exynos S8+ (G955F)? Would greatly appreciate if you could upload it and post a link to the file since the beta spots are full now.
Thanks in advance!!

I can assure you it has been, I've seen screenshots of people running it on this version. Just no one seems to be uploading the file. What twrp file are you referring to? I've lost Knox a long time ago lol

You can't do anything with the ota file right now, people have tried to flash it through recovery twrp and stock and it fails on signature verification, so unless you can get past this issue there's no point.

I've seen that, but it's not quite what the op was asking about, also that would require you to trip Knox which anyone who wants to stay complete stock won't want to do
