I recently used the SalsichaNooter to root my nook, I was able to start installing apps and the amazon marketplace. The main use I have for this device is checking and responding to texts, emails and reading my Google Reader. Therefore I was able to get gmail and the google reader app working great but the Google Voice app does not display the entire keyboard. Any help would be great I have tried a lot of different apk's and none of them are fixing this issue.
Paul Shackelford
I had the same problem when using Google Voice (in fact, I started a thread a while ago on the same subject). The two keyboard apk's that work for me in Google Voice (i.e., don't get cut off) are GO Keyboard and ICS Keyboard.
Try them both and see which fits with your personal tastes.
Which apps use on your devices?
Authenticator (think Google Authenticator)
bart mobile (when in the Bay Area)
Fiction Book Reader (for DRM-free ebooks; I've tried a few others too such as Point Reader which is different and cool)
Flashlight (does what the name implies...)
Here Drive/Transit/Maps (of course, although Here Drive pisses me off quite badly at times)
IM+ (for GTalk, Yahoo Messenger, and AIM contacts)
LinkedIn (mostly for answering messages / network requests)
Lync 2013 (for work)
Mango Transit (basically acts like the built-in Maps app but adds the ability to get directions via transit instead of only driving or walking)
MTGBugs NEXT (helpful app for Magic: the Gathering players)
My Account (T-Mobile US carrier account info app)
Netflix
OneBusAway (somewhat regional but very helpful)
oPenGP (PGP/GPG client; not great but does the job)
OverDrive (for getting e-books and e-audiobooks from the library)
Pandora (not a lot, since I have a Zune / Xbox Music pass, but sometimes)
RemoteDesktop (works fantastically)
Skype (of course)
Speedtest.net (just like the website, basically)
The SSH Client (also works great, and yes I use both RDP and SSH servers)
WTA Trailblazer (only useful if you happen to live in Washington, or want to do hikes here, but I do...)
Yelp
This is a pretty partial list - just the stuff that I use *regularly* - and excludes the following categories of apps:
Games (lots of those)
Built-in apps (I don't use all of them, but I use a lot of them)
Homebrew apps (given what I do here, this should be obvious)
#mowithlove (for giving mustache to pics)
advanced english dictionary
CamScanner (very useful app)
Flashlight XT
LazyLens(For pics effects)
Nokia smart camera
Moliplayer Pro(watching Movies)
myAppfree (daily one free app)
Nokia Mix radios
Nokia cinemagraph(Animated photoes)
Youtube HD
Lockmix (i love this app)
Most of the Nokia apps, Bing news & weather, Netflix, mytube, Hulu plus, flashlight x, swipe tunes, various games, Skype, instagram beta, tumblr, pininterest, vba8, snes8, imdb, mediafire, PayPal, Pandora, tapatalk, chronos, contacts, battery meter and baconit. Some others too

I've got a number of apps that I've installed but only so many I actually use...
Remoting into other computers:
TeamViewer - for when RDP doesn't want to cooperate.
ConnectMe - RDP client, kinda works...NetBIOS names seem to break on WP8.
Music&Video:
onePlayer - a decent DLNA app that kinda works (its really a WP7 app, Nokia's PlayTo does the opposite of what I want; I loved HTC's Connected Music app for WP7)
ModPhone7 - Plays tracker music (MODs, XMs, ITs, S3Ms)
WOMP - Also plays tracker music, it was the first in the store to actually work.
Sat Rad Player - An app that plays the streams from SiriusXM. Its no longer in the store AFAIK...
MPAtool - used to be homebrew for WP7, but its officially a legitamate app now. It mostly adds images from last.fm, but does a basic google image search too...
Games:
Tiny Death Star - A freemium game thats actually playable without throwing real money at it.
VGBC/VGBA/SNES8X/EmiGens/EmiPSX - Emulators that I use to kill time in public. Sometimes I wish they made a shell-like moga controller (I don't actually use these too often where I'd want to purchase one, but not all of these have support for it either...)
Internet Stuff:
UCBrowser - A "private" browser that has previously had a homebrew version for WP7. Also works for downloading stuff that IE wouldn't download.
Amazing Weather HD - Nice live tile.... Thats about it. I solely use this to check the weather. (Radar is meh in all weather apps in the store.)
SysApp Pusher - A must have for checking updates and installing apps for other OEMs.
Skype - I occasionally chat with other xda members using this, but it doesn't always work in the background.
Zinio - I have a few magazines I read using their service. Namely PCMag....
MetroTube - Some might actually object to this, but it just has always worked for me. I also had this on WP7 a year ago. I download some youtube videos using this, but I'd wish it had a transfer to music+videos option to watch it on something else or to download them to the PC.
Gasbuddy - I used to try and report gas prices to help others, but since I'm the one who does most of the driving... its not very useful unless I need to find gas in the first place.
Windows Phone Central - This is kinda the only news I read anymore. Politics and regional news is the same stuff month after month.
Tapatalk - I post here using it when I need to just do a quick update on what I'm doing or if I can actually help someone.
facebook beta - Its facebook... what more can I say about it?
wptorrent pro - a torrent app that plays movies and stuff...it shares the files to the local network via a web-server.
Lockscreen background:
Lock Manager - a visually appealing lockscreen that I can live with that has the weather in a format that doesn't take too much of the lockscreen image away.
glance background - added a monochrome version of Master Chief (John) from Halo and set it too look like it was on 8bit device
Mapping/GPS Stuff
HERE Drive+ - Annoying as h***, I use it mainly for my current part-time job and I'm beginning to feel extreme hate for it. The fact it mutes the audio when it announces things is the first annoyance instead of pausing the music or just ducking behind the music volume while announcing the directions. The second annoyance is that it doesn't announce the address right before I destinate. (at least after the last update it shows the hose number instead of just the street name.) Also, it doesn't always have the most accurate maps, its 3 years outdated in my region, so roads have been renamed and other roads have been outright closed. When not actually not on the road it tends to snap you to the road, so you could be in a parking garage where it snaps you to a road when you are actually on a different one. This app fully assumes that you are still heading the "proper" directions until it recalculates in ~5-10 seconds. All of this just makes me wish the Garmin app wasn't so darned expensive.
gMaps - I use this when Nokia Drive/Bing Maps/anything that uses the OS's maps are out of date and need to get to a missing street.
GPS Voice Navigation - I've dabbled with this a bit enough to say its nice to use, but requires data; navigating around the app isn't as straight forward as it should be.
Developer Apps:
TimeMe - a clock tile with the date, battery percentage and the current weather (just temp and status e.g. cloudy image and temp)
Native Toast Launcher - Used for launching hidden pages inside any app.
US MO Apps - for whenever I can get Fiddler to work right again...

The best way to stumble upon an interesting app is to see what other folks are using. Using the app "List my apps" linked at the bottom of this list and using the "bbcode" option inside it I generated the following list of apps which are installed on my Idol 3. In most cases the link will take you directly to the app no matter where it came from...some will kick you to a google search which should find them fairly easily as well. Many of the pay apps have free versions available. Feel free to reply back with YOUR list of apps and if you find an interesting app from someone's post hit the thanks button to let them know! I look forward to seeing what some of you use. List my apps is open source and available on both F-Droid and Google Play.

Thanks for the reply. Please consider using list my apps so it will provide links for folks. I personally prefer Moon Reader Pro over Aldiko especially since I use the text to speech option to have it read ebooks as audiobooks in the car with the IVONA Amy UK tts voice. I use es file explorer over solid explorer(I'm not fond of apps that provide crippled free versions or in this case "14 day trial software") and Servicely (written by francisco franco if you recognize the name) as an alternate to Greenify that may interest you. Did you mean "Convertpad?"

Servicely is very good app and of course I know Sir Francisco with his famous Franco kernel but somehow Greenify in boost mode (need root and Xposed) works better (at least for me) because you can still received all notification from apps without the apps awaken.
Also you can use Greenify together with Nova launcher to add DT2S+greenified apps. You just double tap the home screen to put the phone in sleep + greenified all running apps.
Ahh.. yes, it's convertpad. It's the easiest to use multi-converter

Btw, do you know Xposed module to make battery circle icon and remove carrier name in lock screen that works for Idol 5.5?
Among those I use (not including a bunch of widely used apps):
Action Launcher 3 - Minimalistic launcher that gives me what I want and doesn't include a bunch of things I generally don't use. I like having one home screen with a minimum of clutter. This optimizes that preference with some unique features.
AdAway
AppDialer Pro - Number/QWERTY keypad that "dials up" whatever installed app (and, optionally, contact) you want. Its useful widget does the same.
Draft - Dropbox friendly, searchable notes app that seems abandoned by the dev. I'd like a better alternative, but I don't know that there is one that specifically matches my usage. I prefer this to something like Evernote for privacy reasons, not that Dropbox is ideal.
ES File Explorer - I use Solid Explorer, too, but this does more. Its FTP server is an approach I often use to transfer files onto the device from a computer.
Ghostery Browser - Gives the same shield from tracking and such that the Chrome extension does on a computer.
GMD Gestures - Adds a layer of usability to my minimalistic approach. On a larger screen, like a tablet or even a Nexus 6, I don't use it as much. Still, this is a major part of my user experience, one of the first things I install.
Javelin - Good, clean, alternative browser with popup feature
JotterPad - Stylish, non-programming, writing oriented text editor.
Link Bubble - Popup browser. Javelin does this, too, but I like Link Bubble's implementation a little better.
MessagEase - Out of the ordinary keyboard that offers all sorts of features that most don't (keyboard shortcuts/macros, forward delete, easy access to special characters, pretty much every functionality you'd ever find in a keyboard). Takes getting used to, but I use it more than any other.
Minuum Keyboard - Sort of like Fleksy, but I find it more usable. It was my main keyboard for awhile, but I haven't used it much, lately.
Moon+ Reader - Another staple, well tended to by its dev. By far my favorite book reader. I stopped even thinking about the rest long ago.
Music Folder Player Full - Simple, straight forward music player. Old school approach. Direct and to the point. Once in awhile, I'll try one of the flashy ones, but find that their "features" are no more than eye candy to me and delete them.
Pocket - Read articles saved from websites.
Popup Widget - I don't use this all that often, but it's very helpful when I want it. I don't want widgets permanently on my screen that I rarely use. This allows me to tap an icon or execute a gesture (via GMS) to popup a widget when I want it temporarily (weather, calendars, etc.)
Titanium Backup
TweetCaster
Viper4Android - Sound quality enhancement that I didn't realize how much I needed until I tried it.
Wallpaper Saver - Great for getting wallpaper from ROMs, launchers, wherever. Though I find that I tend to prefer wallpaper from sources other than those places.
I've used and liked both Greenify and Servicely, too. I also like Recently and bought it.

This looks like you used list my apps but didn't save it as bb code (share it to email and email to yourself)....the bbcode would contain links to the apps your mentioning whether they are on f-droid, amazon appstore or google play...I mention this to make it easier on others as for example some of the apps I use are xda only version and it uses a google search which should take the user to them. I have not seen a need for "recently" as I use a combination of the built in "recents" and my most popularly used apps in notification area via the app "Hanger". See Screenshot.
In place of Action Launcher 3 I'd probably use Lucid Launcher (Pro) which is what I use on my devices with less memory. (http://www.xda-developers.com/lucid-launcher-a-unique-launcher-made-from-scratch/)
Instead of dropbox you may prefer syncthing which is an opensource alternative to bittorrent sync...I use it to keep folders in sync between my pc and my phone unless you actually have a need to access your files from the net somewhere via dropbox. You actually have viper4android installed on your idol 3? I'm assuming you flashed the zip...and disabled the built in JBL audio enhancements? Does it strictly work on headphones or improve sound on the speakers as well? (I used it a long time ago).
why is this thread in idol3 forum? it has to be in main forum, because it has nothing to do with idol3

Practically every device has a thread with "favorite apps to use on my xxx device" so no it doesn't HAVE to be in the main forum. Among my apps are a list of xposed modules that work on our specific version of lolipop...thats pretty relevent. Apps that work around quirks such as reboot manager which gives us "reboot to bootloader and reboot to recovery" from in the rom are very idol specific. Rootcloak can be used to make the system update checker work..thats pretty relevant and why it's in bold among the other bug fix modules.
If you must, report it to a mod and they can decide where it goes.
no apps you are listing are device specific .. reboot manager is not idol specific... Almost none device with stock rom have reboot to bootloader or recovery option.
and anyway here is subforum called "Onetouch Idol 3 Themes and Apps" (where you allready started many dead threads), so i think its better to move it there.

I didn't use any app to list the ones I mentioned. I just used the forum's list format. I'll try and get to doing it as you would like so that the links will be there for those who might want them.
I've played around some with SyncThing and more secure alternatives to the usual cloud storage. The problem in the case of my notes is that they're synched to my Mac, too, and the program I use there is close to perfect for how I use it. And it won't sync to my own server or some of the more secure public ones. But I may migrate in those directions at some point. I'd just need to find an another Mac program that would work for me.
I didn't install V4A on the Idol 3. I put it on my Nexus 6. V4A addresses sound quality on the phone speakers, ear buds/headsets and bluetooth speakers. USB connected speakers, too. It doesn't do anything for phone call audio. It takes some playing around to get it right, a process I'm still in the midst of. But the difference is striking compared to the stock audio processing, at least when I've got it configured to my comfort. I don't know what would happen on the Idol 3. Disabling the JBL audio would be wise if you play around with JBL. As you know well, you'll want a good backup in case you want to dump V4A and restore a good working JBL. But maybe the JBL processing compares favorably.

It sure would be nice if you were as diligent about policing your own threads as you are about policing mine. The mod's don't agree with you. I was told general conversation like this belongs in general. Discussing installing viper4android on the idol3 is idol 3 specific. Instead of pretending to be a mod how about responding to the 5 day old request for posting @petrov.0's corrected TWRP link to the 1st post of your twrp thread?
Now I'm going to stop responding to you...report it to the mod's and Mod's if you agree this is the appropriate location for general discussion of apps to be used on the idol then please remove his posts AND my replies so this thread can stay on topic.

There was another user interested in running viper4android on the idol 3...I may get around to making a backup and trying to install it to see how it does on the idol 3. I use the speakers to play music when travelling and it's got great sound/volume already in my opinion but always willing to try options. I use syncthing to backup my TWRP and Titaniumbackup folders among others.....if you set your titaniumbackup to run on a schedule it keeps pretty well in sync. You will have to either patch your platform.xml to see that syncthing has full rights to write to the external sdcard or use an xposed module to accomplish the same thing.
Hmm I guess I should add xposed module "Sticky Location Icon Fix [LP]" to the list..It stops the location icon from always showing up in notification bar even when location is not being used. The dev released it "yesterday" since it's now after midnight even in pacific time.

Hmm I guess I should add xposed module "Sticky Location Icon Fix [LP]" to the list..It stops the location icon from always showing up in notification bar even when location is not being used. The dev released it "yesterday" since it's now after midnight even in pacific time.

The V4A installation is pretty quick and easy. It's what becomes of the JBL stuff that is the potential greater issue. But, there's always that backup. I found the speakers on the Idol 3 to be one of its surprise nice features, too. I had no quarrel with the sound as is. But I didn't on the N6, either.
A couple of other apps that I use: Smart Unlock and Simple Reboot. The former has been covered here, IIRC. I used to use Llama (sort of like Tasker) to perform the same thing and it worked great for a couple of years. But it became problematic. On my wife's phone, she actually got completely locked out at one point. We almost had to wipe it clean and start over again. Smart Unlock and Lollipop's similar functionality are an adequate, if inferior substitute to when Llama worked right. Simple Reboot is Franco's implementation of a common feature set — a boot menu that'll allow you to reboot to recovery, bootloader, etc.
Is there a list of the apps that support multi window? Given the lack of an ETA for the nougat update, I figure I need to get used to using the current system.
Well, to get the ball rolling: I found that the official RAR app supports multiwindow as well as Google's Photos app. Has anyone else found non-stock apps that support it?
Apps that I've found to support multi window:
Chrome (but not beta)
Facebook
Messenger
Gmail
Outlook
Youtube
VLC
Google search
Home
Instagram
Pinterest
Dolphin Browser
Ebay
Paypal
Flow free
Google maps

I've found that if an app supports multi-window it'll open in a window the first time you launch it, so its easy to test.
I'm sure people are aware, but just to be thorough its worth noting that windowed apps can be pinned. Pinning them will mean they always stay on top, so they can be overlayed on another app. I've found this very useful. A good example is pinning a window of YouTube or VLC while running something like Chrome, Dolphin or even Facebook fullscreen. Its much like the iPad's picture-in-picture feature or the new Windows 10 screen overlay (which only works for 1 app) except the Yoga Book's solution is far more versatile.
I think that might be it, I haven't found any more.

I guess now we just have to wait for Nougat... :/
On the Galaxy Note 10.1 (first gen), a whitelist existed for supported apps. As such, the whitelist was modifiable. It seems obvious here that there is not a whitelist dictating this. Does anyone know what dictates multiwindow capability here? Is it as simple as a manifest modification?
I think the Lenovo software is tricking Marshmallow to think it's a phone. That makes the inability to resize the windows make perfect sense.
iDO Calculator
after trying about 50 calculator app, I found only iDo Calculator working in multi task on yoga book.

Sweet, added that to the Megathread.
new update
An update last week added the ability to configure the size of the multi-window to "large" which is half of the screen so you can place them side by side like Windows.
And every app I've tried since the update now works in multi-window mode

Legendary. I've added you to my megathread (well... by the time you see this I will have) ;D
Has anyone figured out a way to adjust what the defined multi window size is? I feel like it's just slightly too small to run some apps in a comfortable way =/
I ask bc its been months and still haven't not seen any proof of Lenovo giving the ability to adjust this any time in the near future. . .
Hi everyone. I am getting an SM-G975F with the Exynos chipset. I was planning on flashing LineageOS on it but now I have stumbled upon MicroG for LineageOS and been doing a little reading up on it. Now I am not clear what the best choice would be from a privacy perspective.
My intention with LineageOS was to *not* install GApps and see how much I can make do with the default apps (i.e. the stock mail app, etc.). If that is my intention, then am I better off with LineageOS? or MicroG?
I don't really care about Google Apps. The only thing I can see myself struggling without is without some kind of semi-decent mapping application like Google Maps. Is there a decent alternative? Do I need MicroG for that? If I do cave and find I need Google Maps, then would I be better off with MicroG or LineageOS?
Also, is there a way to get Office apps (Word, Excel, etc.) on LineageOS? Or is that undesirable from a privacy perspective?
Lastly, is there a way to enable LTE bands 29, 30, and 46 on the SM-G975F model? These are enabled on the SM-G975W (Canadian) model, and I will be using the phone in Canada on Bell Mobility.
If these questions have been asked/answered elsewhere, can you please just drop a link?
Thanks,
The Fish

Hi XDA’ers
I thought I would provide an update on my experience thus far with LineageOS 19.1 on my Exynos SM-G975F and answer some of my own questions which I asked above. Maybe some of this is obvious stuff or maybe not. Maybe it will be helpful for others in the future.
The operating systemI installed LineageOS from the official lineageos.org website. I did not install GApps so I am operating without the Google Play Services.
While Android itself is open source, the “Google Play Services” are not. They are a proprietary library from Google that are included with most (all?) Android devices and provide a number of services, APIs, etc. to apps running on Android. It's not part of the operating system per se, but lots of apps require it. So, I am operating with LineageOS only without the Google Play Services.
As a side note, there is an open-source re-implementation of Google Play Services called microG. MicroG cannot be installed as an app but needs to be installed as part of the OS. There are basically two flavors of LineageOS that include microG. They are “LineageOS for microG” and /e/OS. Both of these include microG. Pure LineageOS on its own however includes neither Google Play Services (unless you install GApps bundle) nor microG.
I was surprised how small the download file was for LineageOS. It weighs in at just 777 MB. I am used to Samsung firmware that weighs in at about 6 GB. So, this seemed really small to me.
Upon first boot up I was impressed with how clean the operating system was. Not only is there no bloatware but there is basically almost nothing at all. There is a dialer app, an SMS app, a camera app, a calculator, and a mini browser. There is also a local-only address book (no link to cloud services) and a local calendar app. The browser is fairly limited but gets the job done. Notably there isn’t a mail app (although I understand that there used to be one on previous versions of LineageOS). So, I set about seeing what I could do.
AppsI installed the F-Droid app store but there are not any mainstream apps in there. Some of the apps in there might be good (I still need to explore it more) but I needed a solid email app. My company is on Office 365 so Outlook would be my first choice.
I stumbled upon APKPure and APKMirror. Both are very ad-filled spammy looking website that seems to be a web-based front end to the Google Play Store. Using these sites website, you can download official APKs for mainstream apps like Outlook, Word, Excel, etc. Be very careful where you click. Lots of the ads on the site include "Download Now" type buttons that you can click on thinking you are downloading an APK but instead are clicking on a spammy ad. So, navigate carefully on these sites.
I was able to install Word, Excel, OneDrive and Outlook. This was huge because I needed a decent mail app. Being able to install OneDrive meant I could now sync my camera with OneDrive. All the Microsoft apps worked flawlessly on LineageOS even without Google Play Services. The one thing I noticed however is that Outlook does not give me notifications when I get a new email. I have to go into Outlook and swipe down to refresh. I believe this is due to the lack of Google Play Services. Maybe using microG would eliminate this problem (not sure). I can live with this for now but would obviously like a way to resolve it.
Installing Outlook synced the local Calendar and Contacts apps with my Outlook contacts and calendar so that worked great.
Bible AppsBoth the Olive Tree Bible Reader app and the ESV Bible app installed no problem from APKPure. Both of these are offline Bible apps (they download the whole Bible and can be used offline). I like Olive Tree because I have several translations (including the SBLGNT) and Olive Tree lets me switch between them. The ESV app is great because they have recordings and so you can hear Kristyn Getty or David Cochran Heath read the Bible to you in natural non-synthetic voices.
SignalI installed Signal directly from their website (they offer the APK directly on their website). Signal detects that it is being installed on a device without Google Play Services and so registers itself as a service and consequently I do get notifications for new Signal messages (unlike Outlook). I wonder if there is some way to make Outlook run the same way. I tried installing Microsoft Teams which we use at work but don't get any notifications when people send me messages. So that makes Teams pretty useless.
BrowserThe build-in default browser renders HTML/CSS just fine but is very limited in terms of features. When you install a progressive web app as an app on the home screen it works but launches in the full browser with the address bar visible which breaks the app-like experiance which is really the whole point of a PWA. So I set about trying to fix this. To my surprise I was able to install Microsoft Edge without ANY issues whatsoever. It works great and web apps pin to the home screen the way they should (and open as apps). So I made Edge my default browser.
KeyboardsThe default keyboard in LineageOS does not have stickers or GIFs. That is as it should be I think for a default built-in keyboard. But it does not support swipe typing either. This surprised me. It seemed like a huge step backwards to have to tap out every letter with my thumbs. Do people still type like that on their phones?!?! Oh, the humanity!
There is a microphone icon at the top of the keyboard for speech-to-text transcription. I used this all the time before on my Samsung S8+. But tapping it did nothing. Apparently I am missing a speech-to-text engine. This surprised be because Outlook has dictation built-in using Microsoft's engines and works well. But it only works in Outlook and not universally throughout the phone as it would if it was built-in on the keyboard.
I installed the Microsoft SwiftKey keyboard and that gave me stickers, GIFs and... swipe typing! Woo Hoo! But I was really hoping it would give me speech-to-text since I dictate almost all of my text messages. I figured it would use Microsoft's engine like Outlook does since it was a Microsoft app. But tapping the microphone on the SwiftKey keyboard promptly tells me that I need to download "Google Voice Search".
Microsoft AuthenticatorI installed the Microsoft Authenticator app for 2FA and it installed just fine. But it was impossible to add any accounts by scanning the QR codes. I think this is due to notifications not working properly, probably also due to the lack of Google Play Services or microG.
Outstanding IssuesSo, the outstanding issues I have right now are:
Microsoft Authenticator is non-usable. This is a huge issue for me
No speech-to-text transcription from keyboard
No notifications in Microsoft Teams
No notifications in Microsoft Outlook (this I can live with).
What I LikeWhat I like about LineageOS is the clean, minimalistic design of the operating system. I am not pushed into any particular "ecosystem" be it Google, Samsung, Microsoft or Apple. I can decide which ecosystem I want to participate in and to which extent. For example, I could download Outlook without downloading Edge and I don't need to backup my photos to OneDrive unless I want to. You can do this, to some extent, with OEM versions of Android, but it requires ignoring and disabling things. Come to think of it, that is really what an operating system should be - a platform for running apps, not an on-ramp into an ecosystem.
What irritates me is that not all apps work as they should. It seems like Google Play Services is an important part of the mix and many apps fail to function properly without it. Signal seems like one exception. It detects that you are not using Google Play Services and adapts the functioning the app accordingly.
Just a minor update. I tried several diffrent TTS engines (Pico TTS, Flite TTS, RHVoice) and none of these gave me text typing.
I ended up installing Speech Services by Google and it worked. I was surprised that it worked considering I do not have GApps (and thus no Google Play Services) and no microG on my phone.
So, I guess I can live with a little Google on my phone, but I would have preferred to find an open-source alternative or, barring that, a Microsoft alternative.
