Indian Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is getting a new software update. - Galaxy S6 Edge General

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge version is getting a new software update starting today on 27/05/2015.To check the available update go to your phone settings>about device>software update.
2 weeks back the model got a software update too without significant improvements and only provided minor improvements like slight RAM usage management and slightly better snappier UI.
This new update like the previous one too , didn't provide any specific change logs but is a micro update to provide device stability improvements, bug fixes, new and/or enhanced features and performance improvements.
The update is of 135.92 mb and after the software is installed, the about device page looks like this(second screenshot).

Hi Kashyap,
Thanks for info and would like to know if I can root device post update; if not is there a way not to update?
Regards,
Richa

Hi Richa!,
U can root using either CF-Auto root(trips knox) or ping pong root(doesnt trip knox) to root the same. Since the update is a micro update the rooting should work. Just try , you should be in good luck.

Im in the UK, do you know if that's rolling out yet? Unbranded version.

Have no idea about UK micro updates. Keep checking

I just updated my Galaxy s6 edge but seems nothing change in ui!

Do not update. Ping Pong root is not working with this build. I tried doing it. It gives me error " your data is not yet supported" or something of this sort..

Hi friends...you can feel any improves with this new modem (BOE3)? Better 4G connection or better wifi download speed? Thanks for the advance!
S6 Edge SM-G925i, Telcel, México.

Thanks for the info! Downloading.....
Any changelog in the meanwhile? or any change/tweak you have noticed?

Hi,
The difference is you can't root device after updating. Or must wait till ping pong root supports this current update version.

Old new!?
People with non rooted phones do not surf around much in developer section
I'm running on Rooted KE8.. Rooted using CF Root with insecure kernel method (chainfire). Can I use Odin to flash the new firmware (on an already rooted phone), or will my phone get bricked. No worries about losing root; i'll just root it again once I update the firmware.
No update for me
No update for me here.
Kies still not detecting any new firmware. I am in KE8.
Why is that?
updated to new KF3;
Its more fluid then previous one ;
didn't noticed any other enhancement

I saw several posts of people who reported massive problems of the official India firmware.
The new update is probably only a fixed 4.4.4 firmware
Thanks for your quick response.

[UPDATE] Firmware 28.0.A.7.31 HK OTA System Update

I have just received a system update notification telling me I can update to the latest 28.0.A.7.31 firmware which was certified on July 7th according to PTCRB.. Should I proceed with the update ??
https://www.ptcrb.com/vendor/complete/view_complete_request_guest.cfm?modelid=29933
I've read somewhere that in the (.27) firmware, which is available only in UK region, people said that the CPU speed is running at a lower frequency and some cores are even turned off/in idle state by default.. I wonder if that is the case with this update..
P/S: I'm not sure if I'm currently really running on a (.24) HK firmware.. I am from Malaysia so I'm assuming I'm running on HK firmware.. Is anyone else receiving this update ??
EDIT: I've updated to the latest firmware..
Well, why don't you try it for yourself? I mean the other areas are still on .24 so no-one is currently able to give you information about that.
i just updated to the .31 updates and i am also from malaysia.
After the update, performance wise nothing has really changed much , but there is a big update to the camera software.
just to point out something i noticed after the update:
1. The manual mode 20.7 mp can now touch focus (correct me if i am wrong , the older version couldnt do it)
2. The focusing on the camera improved a huge miles.(just yesterday , i am frustrating to focus a bank receipt of bank-in or anything close up like , and focus on any mode in anything just doesnt work right)
The update just made me more in love with this phone. Although a bit disappointing that it is not 5.1.1 update LOL

I see.. I hope other regions will get it soon as I'm not really that good at noticing changes/improvements, at least in great detail with the backing of information/stats from 3rd party apps (CPU-Z) etc.. I'll try to give my thoughts on it should I notice anything.. Can't wait for fellow users to make a review of this update..

I see.. I guess this is a firmware to rectify the overheating issue plus a couple of subtle improvements here and there.. Was not expecting 5.1.1 as the version number is not that different from (.24) firmware.. Hoping for it to come soon though..

Okeyy
Thank you bro. I will download .ftf today and upgrade
I have not seen any improvements whatsoever in this release. The touchscreen keyboard is still a bit hit and miss. And the fingerprint hardware unavailable still appears.
The only good thing about this update is bringing the security patch level to 1 June. Which is outdated, other vendors are getting the 1 August one already.
Strange to be such a big update though 500MB+.
Things i noticed in this update (I'm using VN firmware):
- New homescreen which allows rotation.
- June security patch.
- The touch issue mentioned in this thread has been fixed.
- Better fingerprint recognition. Battery life seems to be improved (a bit).
- Gaming performance is a hit and miss. Dead Effect 2 and BIA3 run better, Asphalt 8 runs worse. Other games don't seem to change. (I'm not sure if A8 actually run worse or it's just me, can't get FPS without root ). Antutu score increased from 75k to 79k.
- I can't say anything about camera, as i barely use it.
Overall, unless you have nothing else to do, this update does not bring any game-changing improvements, and can be skipped. We're getting Nougat in months anyway.

Got a question guys. I got the US version, but I flashed a UK version firmware using flashtool from Androxyde to make the fingerprint scanner work. The phone is not rooted, bootloader is not unlocked. Am I getting the this update OTA or should I just flash it with flashtool again? I don’t mind to wait if OTA update is available, I just wanna make sure I’m gonna get it.
Hello
I have a branded version (Carrier SFR, France) i'd like to update to this unbranded firmware version, how can i do it ?
Thank u
Well, i am on .277, have an unlocked and unbranded german x,and dont get .292 offerred via software update.

Is there another option to download and install .292 ?

Yes, you can flash any ftf you want. I would go for a customized/generic ftf because they have less bloatware

Yes got it yesterday. Try connecting to PC and run smart switch. I started downloading but it terminated prematurely. I then found and downloaded the update through OTA.
Nothing for U series, not even a beta >.<
I'm in the UK with a G955FD. The download has now become available. I may not install it as I like the facility to record calls, not possible with 9.0. I might prefer to wait for a custom ROM based on 9.0 with the facility restored.

What's New - Upgraded One UI for Android Pie
I have not installed it yet as I am skeptical about performance issues after installing it. Those who have installed it, Can you please share your experience so far? Are you facing any kind of issues?
My friend installed it on S9 Plus and it botched his Contacts List Completely. Any such issues in S8 Plus?
UI 1.1
I have a question whether S8 + gets an update to UI 1.1 or that samsung does not issue any UI interface updates.

Well, so far after the last March act. is not. I don't believe that much: / don't you know how S9 + is? if you have 1.1 UI?
Batterylife is absolute crap on Pie.
Uses 30% more battery in a day than on previous firmware.

have you done a factory reset? this is a major update. i would always do one when going up a whole version. most people i have seen including myself and all of my close friends have been amazed at how great the battery is. if you havent done a reset yet there is really no reason to claim it has bad battery. there are so many things that can get messed up with a big ota. if that is how you got it anyway.
I have in Ireland

I do not understand what you are asking ... I installed the last update and everything works as it is just the version of UI is still 1.0 which I thought might already give 1.1 but this probably won't get S8 +
I upgraded this week and it's been a pain, split screen stopped working so factory reset, about 4 hours after the reset the same happened again ,reset again solved that but now status bar has disappeared, so can only check the battery by swiping down. Just wish I could downgrade ! Leave it a while before upgrading would be my advice.
Can't agree with that. Running latest u1 beta and it is pretty much flawless. daily driver all day.
