Help needed to remove Xposed from 5.0 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Xposed for Samsung Lollipop is out. But I am having trouble installing apps since I installed xposed so I decided to remove it. I restored the system partitioned with a backup I've made before the installation but looks like xposed isn't removed. I still getting "Optimising app" at every start up and I cannot install apps from Play Store. Many of users that installed xposed reported these.
I even tried to wipe system (not data) and flashing the rom I'm using on it again but xposed is still there. (Stil getting "optimising apps" and error "-504" from play store. ) What can I do to totally remove xposed without wiping data or restoring data partition?

How about this?? thanks to @craigcrawford1988
Did you try this ?Simply boot into TWRP, and mount system, then Advanced -> File Manager then do the following:1.Go into /system/bin/ and delete app_process32 and app_process32_xposed
2.Rename app_process32_original to app_process32
3.Delete dex2oat and rename dex2oat.orig to dex2oat
4.Repeat the above step for oatdump and patchoat
5.Go up a directory and then into the lib directory
6.Delete libart.so and rename libart.so.orig to libart.so
7.Repeat the above step for libart-compiler.so, libart-disassembler.so and libsigchain.so
8.Delete libxposed_art.so
9.Go up a directory and delete xposed.prop
10.Go into framework directory and delete XposedBridge.jar
11.Reboot your device.

Tried that too but that was for the "normal" official xposed alpha. The way the devs set xposed on samsung touchwiz is different. We flash a different version of xposed framework.
Many of the original files you listed I don't find it (almost all). I think the only way to totally remove it is a full wipe

well good luck with your problem bud , i tried Sorry we could not determine the issue.... Long weekend !

I tried this but I still can't install apps larger than 1mb. Apps that are smaller than 1mb installed perfectly. I don't get fc BTW. I got error -504 from play store. I Googled about it and the error is due to lack of space in /cache partition. I checked the partitions and proved it. Only 800kb free in cache partition but play store needs to download apks to cache before installing. Even restoring titanium backups made during xposed is installed to a clean installed rom can cause that. So I did a clean install without any backups restored.
I tried clearing cache before, it's emptied when I cleared it, but it fills up when optimising app and I don't think I can skip optimising app after clearing cache.

Try formatting system, data, cache then restore system and after first boot, restore data
If didnt work (this is impossible) that means you did the backup after installing xposed
Goodluck

Yes I was lazy I backed up after installing the apk before flashing the zip. So that backup is somehow unusable. I already did a fresh install .

[Q] Android is upgrading every startup

Everytime I turned on my phone or if it rebooted, I always get:
Android is upgrading
-----------------------------
Starting Apps.
I am on stock ROM, TWRP recovery, Faux kernel. I think this happens after I wiped dalvik/cache in the recovery. Any idea how to stop it? It's nothing very major though as it only takes a few seconds.
are you using any sound/volume mods? or any other flashable mods? i think awesomebeats dies this, at least others have complained about it wiping the dalvik after every reboot.

That's normal if you've wiped the Dalvik cache, and no you can't stop it.
Edit: so wait, this is happening even when you reboot normally after not wiping any caches or flashing a kernel?

yes.. and it updates apps after delvic wipe.. but in my case whenever i restart I see the "Android is upgrading" box for about 3-5 sec.. no update app progress bar.. and when I wipe delvic this upgrading apps takes like a min or so with my 150+ apps.. but this "Android is upgrading" dialogue box appears only for 3-5 sec..
I am using PA 3.99 with franco kernel.. once booted every thing inside is running smoothly and no fc's...
Same here. No odex files in app folder. No wipe, no cache clearing. Plain reboot. And Android is upgrading message on every boot. (Starting apps)
No optimizing apps message though.
Sent from my Nexus 4
Wouldn't it be related to "zipalign apk on each boot" parameter ? or an other init script put in place by a dirty flash (no /system or /data format) or a kernel... ?
Seems likely. Could you explain in detail kindly?

Have a look in the files located in this folder for example (maybe there's another location for init scripts) :
- /system/etc/init.d/
- /system/addon.d/
and open each one, to see what are the tasks contained

Removed the scripts present in init.d folder and then booted with empty folder, but message still present.
Checked the addon.d folder, but those scripts are only for backing up gapps etc.
Not sure where else to try. Please advise.
Thanks.

A pity that so much details are missing : what did you do before it happened ?
What's your set up ? rom, kernel ? after having update your rom ? kernel ? apps ? which versions ?
Did you try to revert to a clean install after having backup up your apps+datas ?

im sorry, just wanted the OP to know that he is not the only one with this "problem" by the way im rooted stock rom and kernel, some apps start up when i boot like nova launcher, lucky patcher sidebar and udn. But i am not looking for a fix for this as this does not take that long and i just said that to let the OP know that he is not alone with this "problem"
Sent from my Nexus 4
Ok guys,
Here's the solution. Don't flame me for talking about unholy stuffs. I'm posting this only because it is the cause of the problem.
If you are using LP or such tools to create .odex files of some app in /app folder. It won't cause any boot msg.
But after you dirty flash a ROM, that .odex files somehow gets backdated and causes the UPGRADING msg.
Fix is, delete the odex files, and re create them if needed. Once after every dirty flash.
Sent from my Nexus 4
I have found fix for this error, it is mainly due to odex files which are created by lucky patcher so deleting these files using lucky patcher itself will surely remove this error with 50 percent success rate. Here's the fix; open lucky patcher, there in lower left section you can see Toolbox, click that Toolbox then select 4th last option i.e Remove all odex files.Thats it android will reboot on itself and vola no android is upgrading. .
Check out attachment for help.

"There's a race condition between SELinux policy reloads between SuperSU and Samsung's security service.
That is why on one reboot you'll have root while you won't on another.

This fix solves force close issues with restoring apps with data in Titanium Backup.
This operation recursively fixes all SElinux file markers in /data/data, which are spoiled by titanium during data restore. (Quote from vodkinagdan)
User vodkinagdan found this solution:
Simply execute this from the terminal emulator:
su
restorecon -R -v /data/data
This has to be done after every restore (or batch of restores).
I take no credit for this but it works!

This is a problem with SELinux context on restored apps data. TB won't set it right so apps with restored data are force closed. Se context is set to "u: object_r:system_data_file:s0", but needs to be "u: object_r:app_data_file:s0".
This happening not only with android 5.0, but with android 4.3 and above, where SELinux was introduced. Normally this should be fixed by running this command from root shell on the phone: "restorecon -v -R /data/data"/
But on SM-G900F Polish rom I tnink restorecon is broken (it is crashed - segfaults), so I have to set security context instead of reset.
This can be done either by chcon command in shell, or by using Root Explorer's "change SE context" (+ option "also set on all sub-folders and files") on all folders of restored apps data. You should choose "select context from list" and then select "u: object_r:app_data_file:s0". Do not set context to this value for the whole folder "data", some subfolders needs to have a different security context!

I dont know why,but when I go to android/data , most of the folders are empty(just files and cache folders and both are empty)!
I tried to restore some apps+data and tried to change Se contexts of them(empty folders and non empty folders!) and force close again!
maybe I should change another thing! any Idea?
The only thing that works on Titanium is uninstall, nor backup, nor freeze, nor restore work
Other than I am very happy with Lollipop :good:

What do you mean by "android/data"? Applications have their data in /data/data (you should go in Root Explorer to root folder, then select folder "data" and in folder "data" select subfolder "data" again), each in their subfolder. On each folder that relate to your restored apps (you could check it by app name - like com.amazon.kindle etc) you should change SE context to what I have told in previous post.
I have already restored over 300 applications from 4.4.2 with TB and after this action all of them are worked without a force close.
I used Helium works much better than ****ty TB

tried two times to flash deodex zip before upload , never get such problem , try force shutdown your phone , (Hold Power + Vol up) , after shutdown , turn on phone + vol up ( boot into recovery) - clear cache and dalvik cache again- reboot.
I did everything, now I have to re-flash stock FW : (
BTW, I have problwm with Titanium Backup-I can't uninstall pre-install app, it keeps comeback whenever i restart the phone. Is that has something to do with odexed-deodexed thing ?
and Xposed said it is not compatibel with my FW either, is that normal ?

The force closes are mainly due to left over odexed apps
make sure every app should be deodexed ( if you got Gapps force close then you would be having some google apps with odex. like youtube, hangouts, gmail etc.,)
and even the apps in vendor/app should be deodexed
i have a small doubt if you dont mine... that will help me
Have you really zipaligned the apps ?
how was that possible ?

I use the Cerbeus anti-theft application, I like to turn it into a system application to have full control of my phone in cases of emergency (theft, for example).
The point is that I can install magisk 20v and root perfectly, but when I try to make cerberus or any application as a system application, it shows me the error 'system' not in / proc / mounts, I use link2sd, titanium back up, root explorer all the options does not work, i cant mount rewrite to erase system apps but i can't make normal apps to system app, I tried to update the ROM stock directly from the official website, but at the end, always shows me that error, can anyone help me with this problem?
Thank you! if you need more information tell me
I'm so sorry if my English is not too good, I'm still learning
Bootloader unlocked
Recovery TWRP fajita lastest version
There's a magisk module called systemize that should be able to do what you're wanting as far as turning it into a system app

Just search the download list for systemize.
I've used it for a few apps that need system level access and it's worked great
Yes woked perfectly thank you very much
EDIT:
I tried a few days ago, All converted applications were removed with factory reset are they not supposed to be already in the system partition?

AFAIK Systemize Is the easiest and recommend way. About the things being removed after factory reset, that's normal as Systemize is System-Less. All changes it makes will be reverted after a Factory Reset.

Magisk modules don't touch physically system partition. It's the only way to keep security verifications green. Magisk modules are in data partition and are 'mounted' is system ram disk
Hi again guys, now im trying again to make Cerberus as system app I was able to solve the problem about mounting system, through ADB I placed the APK manually in the system / priv-app folder, I gave it permissions with CHMOD 644 i restarted and effectively became system application Up to this point everything was in order, until I did a factory reset, I got stuck in the boot animation, To solve it I had to boot TWRP and manually remove the apk from the priv-app folder, with this the system boot normally (curious because the root permission was there Despite having restarted the System)
Someone have any ideas to solve it? I don't care about magisk and if the safety net are in red
Thanks!
Help guys, any ideas ?

use systemize to move the app + libs to /system/priv-app
copy the folder to /system/app (you cannot delete)
uninstall Magisk to kill the module
estou com o mesmo problema no Link2

System YouTube app is not loading

I am on rooted with Magisk (in recovery). I had no idea what I did exactly but the YouTube app in /system/app/YouTube/YouTube.apk no longer loads so it doesnt show at app drawer. Installing the app on Play Store seems to work but its no longer a system app! Is there any way to bring it back?
What I have tried so far:
- Wipe dalvik-cache
- Wipe cache partition
- cmd package bg-dexopt-job to re-compile all apps
- cmd package compile com.google.android.youtube (didnt work. it says could not be compiled)
- cmd package install /system/app/YouTube/YouTube.apk (didnt work. signature error something)
Theoretically am on a systemless root which means /system is read-only. There shouldn't be anything that causes any changes.
Any idea?
I know last option would be factory reset / re-flash. So another question: Can I just flash the magisk_patched.tar file and keep everything else intact or I have to flash all BL CP AP CSC blah blah and start from scratch?
Thanks
Use vanced youtube is much better. NO Ads at all

That I cant agree more..
Point is, I didnt know exactly what happened so I just wanna make sure its reversable. It doesnt make sense when theres an apk in /system/app but its not showing up as it should. Magisk is supposed to leave /system unmodified to maintain SafetyNet check...
So,,,
I already tried flashing together magisk_patched.tar and HOME_CSC. Then again wipe both cache and dalvik-cache. Not working!! My system YouTube app still not showing. Weird!
