[Q] Galaxy S4 Verizon SCH-i545 Questions - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I recently was interested in upgrading my device to Lolipop from KitKat. I had used FireFlash to upgrade my device, and every time I reboot it, it says for 3-4 seconds "Android Upgrading ... Starting Apps." It seems to say something before that as well but only for a fraction of a second (Possibly optimizing apps)? I was wondering if there was a way to remove this message or whether it is normal or not.
Thanks,
- AwesomeMarioFan

It's because of ART. You apps will be faster but it needs to preload a little bit when booting. That's why you get the message so it's perfectly normal.

[Q] XCOM:EU will not launch past initial loading screen

Hi, I'm Nyshan and I've been having a bit of a problem with XCOM:EU. I recently purchased it from the Google play store after looking through several forums and seeing that my device (Nexus 4) was compatible. I then proceeded to download it to my (at the time) rooted, 4.3 OS on Franco Kernel. To my dismay the game refused to launch. So I did the only rational thing and unrooted my device while also backing up XCOM. I then reinstalled XCOM after the unrooted and to my absolute disgust found the game still would not load up. I then proceeded to update my phone to the latest OS (4.4.2, still unrooted with a locked boot loader, mind you) in the waning hope that it might fix my problem. Obviously, it didn't. So now, I come here as an absolute last resort.
For ease of access:
Nexus 4
Currently Stock (4.4.2)
Unrooted, Boot loader locked
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Nyshan
P.S. I made this on my phone, so I apologize for the block of text. Also the search bar refuses to function without disappearing every time I try to use it, so sorry if this was an already resolved issue.
Has anyone else had this problem?

[Q] Help needed with potentially bricked S4 LTE

Hi All,
I hope I'm posting in the right place, apologies if not.
I have been running Cyanogenmod on my S4 i9505 since Christmas. A couple of weeks ago, for no apparent reason, the phone started switching itself off so I decided to try and flash back to a stock ROM using Odin and the most recent firmware (5.0.1) from sammobile.com. I'm pretty new to this and don't have much in depth knowledge at all - hence opting for the apparently easy Cyanogenmod rooting option in the first place. The Odin flash 'passed' yet on reboot I got stuck at the Samsung logo and the phone then gets stuck in a boot loop if I switch it off using the power button. I then tried to flash an older firmware (4.2.2) but it has failed twice, leaving me with a 'brick'.
As I said, my technicial knowledge here is very limited but any step by step help to trying to get the phone back up and running would be greatly appreciated. Have I completely ruined the phone past repair, or is there a way round this?
Many thanks in advance
Whenever you upgrade to Android 5.0.1 from an earlier version it takes up to twenty minutes before it fully boots. This is because of the internal change from the Dalvik app compiler to the new ART compiler Android now uses. Android apps come in multiple parts, and on old versions of Android these parts were assembled into a single running image every time you ran the app. This is called "Just In Time" (JIT) compiling. The new ART compiler uses "Ahead Of Time" (AOT) compiling. It assembles all the apps once, rather than repeatedly assembling an app when you run it.
When you upgrade to Android 5.x and future versions of Android, Android will need to spend time compiling every single app on the device before it fully boots. This can take quite a while if you have a lot of apps, and an unfortunate side effect of this is that the device looks like it's stuck in a bootloop.
If you're able to get into Download Mode, your S4 isn't bricked. Install 5.0.1 again, but this time don't touch the device for a while.
Many thanks, a little patience was all that was needed. Re-flashed 5.0.1 and waited for first boot - all sorted!

sm t337a suddenly started freezing ALOT, touchwiz

I have an At&t (though no at&t mobile service currently) Samsung tab 4 8inch. In the last few days it has started freezing SEVERAL times a day. it doesnot matter what app, its likely to freeze on any of them. I would say it probably happens most when Im backing out/exiting an app. When it freezes I can stilll shut screen off but when I turn it back on I am just where it froze -not lock screen, it wont acknowledge plugging charger in, and cant click restart. Touchwiz has stopped message may or may not come up, but I cannot click on it even if it does. The ONLY way I can shut it down then is down vol +power for about 15seconds. Then it restarts and may do it 5 minutes later or 5hours later.
It just started this suddenly. I also had not just installed anything.
If a custom ROM or something would fix it, I wouldnt mind doing that if someone could possibly give me the link(s) to 1 that works for this model and links to how to do so/what I need.
I dont know if it is related or not, but about 3 or 4 days before this started, by battery life & battery charging went suddenly TOTALLY to hell.
Please help me fix this irritating &aggravating problem. Thank you very much for your time &assistance!
There are no custom ROMs for the SM-T337A unfortunately. Is your tablet on KitKat or Lollipop and are you rooted?
You should back up your internal storage and then factory reset and wipe cache in stock recovery. If you are rooted, you should remove system apps that you don't need with titanium backup or something similar. If you are on KitKat you might want to consider either updating to lollipop or factory resetting and reflashing the stock KitKat firmware with Odin.
No im not rooted. However i would like to, but didnt know there was a method of rooting the t337a.
I cant seem to fins out how to find whether its lollipop or kitkat or what?

Click to collapse
Settings > About device > Android version. If it says 4.4.2 it's kitkat, if it says 5.1.1 it's lollipop
Thanks for the help.
Yes its kitkat then because it says 4.4.2 . I think 1st I'll go ahead and search how to update it to Lollipop then go from there... Does that sound like a wise decision to you??
STOOPID Question: I went to the posts at bottom of your posts (granted, I didnt go thru all 59 pages, lol) but I have a brain-fart question... would I try to root and then update to lollipop or vice-versa??
I have found temp root for lollipop. Just look in the general section. As you wouldn't be able to ota lollipop while rooted anyways.

S7 Edge - Nougat 7.0 unroot/unflash

Hi
So I want to unroot/unflash my S7 edge after a "root gone wrong", or well, it didnt actually go wrong but I changed my mind and wanted to "unroot". I recided to use an app (i know that was probably the dumbest thing ever, idk) and pressed "Unroot". My device restarted but I'm still getting messages saying "Un--authorized changes has been made. Restart to undo" or something like that. I've restarted plenty of time and formatted a couple of times but there's something called "teamwin recovery project" that keeps on popping up when booting up.
First of all, I would like to get rid of it and second of all, it is preventing me from updating my firmware which means I'm running quite a old version (not an old android version, but an old "software/update" version with fixes, new features etc.
I cant even download netflix because my device doesnt "support" it.
help me please

Android starts over and over, keeps optimising apps

Hello all,
Completely new in this world I would appreciate help with the following.
I'm using a Samsung Galaxy Note3. I got it from a friend who had rooted it (temasek-12.1 unofficial build).
Today I opend the Note3 and saw a (for me new) screen indicating that Android was starting and was optimising the apps (118) I let it run.
After a while I noticed that the optimising must have entered a new phase because the counter for optimising was at 2 (of 4 apps to optimise). I let it run.
Then I saw tjhe normal startup screen and thougt optimising had ended and put the Note3 aside.
Later I noticed the Note3 was showing the same screen (Android is starting, optimising 118 apps, I take it these are the same 118 as before) .... I waited.
Then I same that the normal startup screen was running (did not see the change from previous screen). I waited to finish normal startup for a least 10 minutes. It did not. Then I was called away and could not see what followed, but later the Note 3 was (again showing the Android is being Started and is optimising 118 apps screen.
The Note3 is busy doing this for at least 6 consequative hours, probably more and cannot be used (tried on/off button, but the Nore3 doest seem te react and I didn't dare to remove battery yet).
I think (know) this is not as it should, but have no idea what is giong on and/or how to fix this.
The only other information shown on the screen is "Powered by Arter97 optimizations"
Who can tell me what to do please?
All thought on this welcome!
Greetings,
Jacq
Additional information:
Just now I witnessed that the noral startupscreen was followd abruptly by the "Starting Android and optimizing" screen And the device is (again) optimizing 118 apps .......
Boot to recovery and wipe cache .
Or flash stock rom through odin .
Hi! For some reason wasn't informed of your post ....
Can you explain to me wat happened here?
In the meantime the device got working again. it took until late in the afternoon. The loop staid, but the number of apps to be optimized got less and sudden it ended and I could use the device again. It took most of the day (not counting what happend early this morning, when I was not aware of the issue).
Grtz., Jacq
