Hi all. New poster and completely non-tech savy. Over the last few days I've been tinkering with my phone trying to learn about various roms and related. I had successfully flashed the CM11 update to my droid X but found that the OS was running extremely slow. example ( while trying to talk through hangouts it would take 2-3 seconds for each letter to not only to show up but also register so I could type my next letter.) This having been the case I tried to downgrade the OS to stock or some older rom. Since going through the steps I find myself in alot of trouble! I am now able to load stock recovery and bootloader only! I am unable to get into Twrp or CWM at all. The phone if loaded regularly will only go as far as the Motorola logo and no further. It will stay on that logo until the battery is taken out. I am unable to power down or reboot otherwise. Unfortunatley I am unable to supply official information like Build and the related but I can say before flashed to CM11 it was the standard Droid X 2.3.4.621 M810 and the CM 11 build was the most recent CM 11 (shadow) build as of 5/18/2015. I need help to load into Twrp or whatever I can do to just load past the motorola logo screen. Oh lastly, I have installed the Motorola Driver program but my computer doesnt seem to be able to find the connection. It does show on device manager and states it is fully upto date driver wise. However it isnt found in RSD Lite run as admin. PLEASE help and or let me know of any information you need to assist me further. Keep in mind though at this time the info i have access to is very limited because of the access i dont have to the phone.

Thats actually the guide I was following. Followed everything and started getting caught up at the RSD lite part. Tried all the provided solutions but phone still isn't found by RSD lite. Please help me get over that hump. Hoping it will be all down hill from there. Device manager is showing phone as "Motorola USB Device > Motorola Flash Interface" Not what your guide shows. Have tried updating drivers from manager but it claims I have the most up to date. Using Windows 8.1 dont know if thats relevant, Thanks for the help btw.
OMG! I DID IT!!! Thanks for the help. After searching for an answer/fix for DAYS I figured it out. Your Guide is AWESOME and very helpful but the one thing it didn't mention which is what I did to make it all finally work was to download VMplayer and do everything in a Windows 7 OS. You might want to add that to your guide as a troubleshooting step. Otherwise, THANK YOU!!!

A month go I installed the leaked Gingerbread. everything has been fine until I decided to get back to Froyo for the OTA. Rooted this morning through Gingerbreak. Still OK. Made a back up through Bootstrapper. Booted into recovery and installed .zip from sd card. Used Maderstock zip. it made it through almost the entire process then when it got to update Radio it aborted. I cleared all the cache and data and all...still nothing. Hit reboot and now it is stuck in bootloop at the droid logo. The font with the circles under the "r" Can not hold home and power to get into recovery. can not turn on phone at all. only get charge screen when plugged in (and yes I was 90-100% charged when attempting this) and red moto logo goes black when attempting recovery boot.
I assume I need to SBF through RSD Lite. Problem is- It wont recognize my device. (yes I have downloaded the Moto drivers.)
At this point I am totally stumped. Noob here, but with LOTS of research and reading over the last weeks.
Help?
check out how to sbf using a linux virtual machine. You can just boot it up within windows. As far as I know, you will not need the drivers for this to work.
Try this. Hopefully it helps.

After weeks of reading forums and posts, I have successfully SBFd my phone back to stock Froyo. I wish I could remember everyones names from every post I read, and thank them personally, but a BIG THANK YOU to the Android community and to anyone that has offered their time and service to helping out. THANK YOU ALL! My experience as little as it might be might now be valuable to others as well.

Many thanks to all those that have spent countless hours helping users like myself find solutions to Droid X problems. At one point in this process I basically bricked (maybe soft briked is the term) my phone. I could do nothing but get a bootload screen. No moto logo, no droid eye, NOTHING.
Long story short, and to help anyone that needs it, here is my solution.
Download FULL SBF file from file share somewhere (VRZ_MB810_2.3.34_1FF_01.sbf)
Download RSD Lite 4.8
Download Moto Drivers
Power Off Droid X- Make sure it is fully charged when attempting any SBF Flashing.
Power on into Bootload mode. I held Power and Volume rocker simultaneously until a quick flash then Bootload appeared. (version 30.4)
Open RSD Lite as an administrator. (hold shift and right click. use "run as") In my case Windows 7 -64bit
Plug phone into computer via USB
Locate device in RSD. Click the little box that has "..." in it and select the SBF file you previously downloaded.
Start.
Let it work its entire process and Voila you will have stock Froyo back on your phone in no time.
I then went in under settings and received the OTA for Gingerbread. My phone works like a champ now.
The steps are clear as day in my head, and I will be able to troubleshoot many of you through the steps. The further from today it gets it might get foggier, so ask away if you are having problems.
It seems like everything had to be VERY specific to work just right.
Good luck and happy Bricking! :/
It happened to more people than you think. I DLed RSD 4.9, 4.8 didnt work for some reason. That was like a month ago, I'm on froyo now, rooted with Liberty. Now I have to SBF again to get the official GB...lol!
My story the same just different thread, (soft bricked) lol my phone, all i got was the bootloader, on win7 64bit as well, only thing different was ive my win7 tuned up to my preferences so i didnt have to ask or run as anything. The steps used in this thread were identical however and many many hours of reading done as well. Just putting this info up here to let you know that you can get your dead bootloading phone back so even though it feels like you have a bowl of something nasty in your stomach as you stare at your DX with nothing but a bootload screen on it and seemingly no other options, read thoroughly, pay attention, be specific and youll have your DX running like a champ in no time. THANK YOU Devs/Community
Good morning, Motorola Milestone 2 Users.
Today I will tell you something I've been through while trying to install a new ROM.
First of all, I've used RSD Lite v4.9 to flash the 2.2 version of android on an already 2.3 MS2, which made me has the impression I've bricked the phone.
I was flashing the 2.2 with the RSD and then suddenly the phone stopped working and the progress on the software asked me to power up manually the phone, which was impossible.
I removed the battery and have put it again, but for my desperation, nothing.
This will be basically a manual to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420276
If your phone don't boot or show anything, but it brights the charger light on the left of the phone, it means it's already on bootloader screen, so, just put a usb data cable and plug it in your computer and run RSD and put the newest .sbf file and flash it.
Is your phone working ok now though?
If you don;t mind this shameless plug of my own thread, some more information can be found here
It contains information about what custom roms you can use other such things, and hopefully I have included how to fix any other problems you might run into. Should you look it over and think im missing something just let me know and I'll add it in with due thanks
Holy mother DreadPirateDan, I am really sorry, I tried to help, I looked for it over and over and didn't find this post of yours, I am really ashamed, really sorry.
If and admin could, please delete this post.
And again, sorry mate.
lol it's all good you encouraged me to reformat my thread... Looking back at it I decided it was pretty sucky and confusing, Hopefully it's more straight forward now.
It's not like it's taken off or anything so it's quite understandable that people might not know of it's existence .
first off im not a noob at this kinda stuff ive rooted tablets and other phones before. so ive spent the past week or so every night for hrs searching around for an answer to my problems.

so i searched for different kinda boot loaders witch lead me to twrp and only like two more
nothing couldn't get any of them to work on account of the fact that they needed a Boot-loader to install them.
then i decided i would try rsd lite
downloaded sbfs

ive tried the first and last one not sure witch one is for my phone
when i hit VOL+ power i get this screen:

Have you tried this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1743764
It worked for me.
i have now tried that and it was useful as far as the commands in the bat file but still nothing i did worked
i unrooted it the wipe cash and factory restore the Zerg Exploit did not work it would not root it so i used the commands to install bootloader it worked with no errors my led turned green to show success but still no blue light or Boot-loader. even when i use
E:\android\adt-bundle-windows-x86-20131030\sdk\platform-tools>adb shell
$ su
su
# reboot boot-loader
reboot boot-loader
it just reboots normally
any one else have some info?
so i still cant get a bootloader to come up ive been at this for a while and am still stumped i gain root and su but no custom boot loader just the stock one.
Root, install 2ndinit, install CM10, install CM10.2, install update-recovery.zip, REBOOT (without any wipe), install CM11 and GApps.
^
so this is just so people can see where im at in the chain of things here. im at the install 2ndinit
nother update so i desided i needed to push the files from bootmenu.tar.gz onto my system and see if it changed anything(also did the same for twrp and a few vrs of other bootloaders)
so i went and got http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1687590
witch worked well and after i used the program to send the files where they need to be and tryed to reboot into bootmenu the phone still just restarted normally.so now the files are where they need to be adn it should let me into the bootloader but no im at a loss i dont understand how sompthing so simple could turn out to be like this. every one else can get it and ive followed like every set of direction i could find on this site over and over agen then i started experimenting with it and still nothing no matter how the files get there still no bootloader all i want is to be able to install JB and get the hell off of GB. and its not like im getting any help from this post i hope a dev can come by here soon and help me shed some light on things. untill then ill keep updating the post

I don't think the XT555c has a JB or even a ICS ROM. You can debloat GB and stay on it.

ive read thru a few threads other than those also and other people with the same mn and build have done it......
thats from my understanding that they wer able to get a boot-loader to work witch i can not get into a bootloader at all.and RSD wont flash anything to the phone evern tho ive used diffrent vr of rsd and the moto drivers.
so am i to assume that it just cant b done? that i could understand but other people with this phone/67d have done it and ive sent them pms but no reply same with some of the devs here who have helped others get this phone going so i guess im at a loss with this straight talk phone at least with installing a custom boot-loader/ROM.at least the phone works.....just outdated.screw you motorola
just a reply
@jimbob it my feelings that the "USA Moto defy xt555c, Straighttalk" does not have a blue LED built in. There is no evidence of it other than i have never seen one during the last year or so of having the phone (yes i do a lot of bluetooth stuff). Also to shed some light on your situation it is my understanding that 67d firmware has patched an exploit with the older bootloader and now has been upgraded to bl7. if this is your bl ver number then it is slim you will find the answer to your problems here. the only option i can come up with is to get or make fixed sbf for the device and flash/ downgrade. fixing the sbf only lies to the phone and tells it you have a higher ver android than you really do.... go figure motorola would be good at burning bridges! LMAO
thanks for replying. not to sure how to make a fixed sbf and the ones i found would not work because i couldn't get the program to flash anything to the phone. but then agen i never made a custom one

Hi,
You started out correctly -- steps 1 and 2 above are correct. Beyond that... I think you must be following an out-dated guide. Use this guide at "forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2737990" following the instructions for CM11 and using the current versions of files (linked to) and you should be good to go. I used this guide to install CM11 on my phone just a couple weeks ago and installed without a problem.
Post back with progress and/or additional help.

Defy stuck in bootmenu or blacksceen with green led on
have seen most of the solutions online but nothing seem to work.
I had installed CM11 Kitkat and was not getting my local mobile network.
So tried to install again but after update-recovery.zip rebooted Defy. if connected to power source shows Moto logo and goes black screen with green led on.
I tried to bring it to bootmenu and wipe factory data but does not help.
RSD Lite does not detect my mobile. Through Bootmenu tried to share usb driver etc after which PC tries to install the driver and succeeds for
Motorola USB Storage Driver but fails for MB525 driver.
Tried custom recovery from Bootmenu but it turns into black screen
tried Stock ROM option in the Bootmenu/recovery and show Android Triangle after which wiping the data/factory reset also does not help.
Please help

Thanks nbdized and JimboN for reply.
Looks like i have landed myself into big trouble with my Defy.
After posting the request for help, I flashed defy with CM10 Jelly Bean and installation went fine. But my mobile network was not getting deteteted. Then tried basebandswitcher and did not help. Again moved on to CM11 Kitkat and this time installation went fine but mobile network problem. So tried to flash again with kitkat and this time rebooted the cell after update-recovery.zip flash and landed into defy getting stuck at bootmenu.
I have posted details of this problem above. Basically RSD Lite is not able to detect my cell and also adb devices does not show the device as detetced.
Need help to resolve this issue

Any idea how much charge is left in the battery -- that sounds like a low battery. If the phone is turned off, and you plug it into a power source, the Moto logo will come on and then go to a battery charge graphic showing level of charge. The green led may suggest that it's charging (there may be other cause for the green led coming on too, I don't know). I the phone requires power from the battery to boot - there's a period of time as it's booting that the charging circuitry does not provide power to the phone so has to come from the battery. If you haven't already done so, try leaving it plugged in for awhile with the green led on to see if that helps -- just a guess, may not be of help.
Someone else on these forums was having the same problem a week or so ago (RSD Lite not recognizing the phone). I'll see if I can find it again and see if they found a solution.

Thanks very much.
1.
If phone is turned off and then connected to power source, it automatically comes on and shows the motorola logo and then becomes black sceen with green led on. Battery charge graphic is not shown.
I have left it in this state for ling time so that battery gets charged. Not sure what would be the battery status.
2. From the above state, I have to pull the battery out and then restart the phone. If at this point i push volume key that it goes into bootmenu where it shows recovery option. There are two recovery options,
2a.
Custom recovery
Nothin much happened here.
2b.
Stock ROM: if i select this then phone shows the Android Triangle. Here i tried to wipe factory settings etc but did not help in resolving the issue.
3. I think my chance of recovering the phone is to get RSD Lite somehow detect my phone.
Somehow MB525 driver does not show as installed on my Windows7 PC. It installs the MB525 Storage driver and I am able to see the SDCARD data from my phone.
Windows 7: MB525 Driver not installed
Can you please help in getting the MB525 driver installed on Windows 7.
Basically my Defy is stuck in bootmenu or screen goes black. I am able to see the phones ext SDcard through the PC.
But it is not detected in the RSDLite
Driver info is printed as follows
Driver Install Status
-----------------------------
MB525 driver not found
USB Mass Storage Device ready to use
Motorola MB525 USB Device ready to use
-----------------------------
Before windows showed "driver not found" it was trying to find the driver through windows update.
Is MB525 driver as listed above not available online? Please help

No worries! Glad I could help.
Installed CM11 as per instructions here "forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2737990".
rooting + 2nd Init
Then after flashing " defy_twrp_recovery_2.6.3.0.zip", it was not stable and going into state where Moto Logo was shown. I continued with "cache wipe" and other three images. Installation was succesful. Also i had modified the baseband files as per the link.
Wifi/mobile network all working but overall things were slow. so decided to flash with CM10 Jelly Bean.
Now i have JellyBean CM10 on which Wifi/Camera does not work. Also it keeps rebooting after few hours.
Can you suggest stable CM version for Motorola Defy? Also what is the connection between CM version and Android OS..Is it like CM10 means Jelly Bean and CM 11 means KitKat?

Hi pareshspednekar,
I'm on the most recent CM11 build (2014-09-23) and all is good. No reboots and very good battery life. Obviously I've only been on if for a couple of days, which is the reason I didn't reply sooner. More use may reveal issues, but good for now. I switched to CM11 about a month ago and have had various builds on my phone since then - so far, 2014-09-23 is the best.
Yes, CM10 = Jelly Bean & CM11 = KitKat.
Edit: There's been some problems at times in the past few days getting on the new download site -- an alternative is: quarx2k.ru/buildbot/roms/defy-cm11.0/

Hi JimboN,
I re-installed CM11 after flashing the SBF through RSDLite. Kitkat works like a charm now Using it for couple of hours now..no issues till now.
Even the problem of mobile shutting down after disconnecting from power source seems to be not present now..
Hope it works the same going forward :victory:
Thanks once again..
On other note, how can i get the reason for mobile reboot?

That's beyond my level of knowledge so can't help you there. Since that's actually a new topic from your original post, why don't you start a new thread -- may help in getting it noticed by someone who can actually answer your question. JimboN
Hi!
I know that that I am mentioning now very old device as Motorola Defy MB525 green lense.
I wanted to flash Cyanogenmod 10.1 again in my Defy. I did full wipe and removed some folders on SD card reffering to old apps.
And it seems I messed up with Clockworkmod Recovery folder on SD and I left myself without it. And I tried to reinstall it using official guide found here: wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_jordan[/url]
But I did not unpack all the files, so the installation was not fulfilled and I got like empty Android boot menu 0.6.1 without possibility to boot an operating system or to do anything (got errors whatever I choose: E:Error in /system/bootmenu/script/recovery.sh)
I have read tons of online materials and forums, and I could only restore stock Defy ROM 2.3.4 using RSD lite.
And I didn't find solution how to reinstall the boot menu :crying: So that is why I am asking you for help.
I can run only Download Mode and this useless Android Boot Menu.
How to reinstall Android boot menu/install custom recovery back?
I like my Defy and I do not want to put it in the drawer yet
Thank you in advance!
Vixificent
The bootmenu is housed in the partition system.
All you have to do is flash the stock firmware, root with Framaroot (app) and install the bootmenu and recovery with 2nd init (app). After this simply download the rom and gapps, you do wipe cache, data, dalvik cache and flash it (first rom, then gapps).

Thank you for your reply and suggestion! But the thing is that I cannot boot the device, so usage of any apk is not possible. When I run my Defy it goes directly to Android Boot menu 0.6.1, which is not installed properly (source files missing, eg. ".sh" files).
Should I try to root it via computer? Then, how to do it with only Download Mode available?
Any help would be appreciated!

YOu can recover your device using an appropriate .sdf file and a program called RSD Lite. There are many how-tos on this - the first one I found was http://www.locslikes.com/motorola-defy/unbrick-and-restore-to-default-sbf/. You'll also find a number of tutorials on these forums.

Quite a late answer, but the solution offered by robbak worked perfectly! Thank you!

I have a similar issue. How did you do the fix you used? The SBF files don't seem to be on the site you were referred to anymore.
Years ago, my unmodified (not rooted) Defy (running Android 2.2.1) started to boot loop, so I eventually did a factory reset. That worked for a while, although certain apps were suddenly no longer compatible) and then suddenly the defy froze on the Moto logo (not even cycling to the Blur screen) and I could no longer get to the reset screen.
However I could still get to the bootloader, so I tried to use RDS lite.
I got one sbf to say it passed, but the phone did not reboot. (I could only find 2 SBF's for the US and only got one to work). Now RDS will detect whether the phone is on or off (and if on I'll get a white LED) and I can flash the sbf still, but otherwise the phone is completely bricked - can't get to reset OR bootloader screen.
When I plug the phone into the USB the white LED comes on, but I can't raise ANYTHING on the screen (reset screen or bootloader screen, holding down the volume up or down w/ the power button). However pressing the power button alone does cause the computer to recognize hardware is plugged in, or alternately disconnected. RSD tells me a device is connected, but the only info given is the bootloader version and AP ID info (whatever that is). However, when I load the SBF, the phone lights up and says SW update in progress...
RSD tells me the phone is being rebooted and has passed, but screen goes dark and all I see i the white LED again.
I tried these two SBFs:
T-Mobile_MB525_6.19.0_1FF.sbf
JORDN_U3_6_36_0_SIGNED_USAJRDNTMOB1B4B5DE1028_0R_J ORDANTMO_P022_HWp3_Service1FF.sbf
Only the 1st one works.
I am not that tech savy regarding Android, so i am looking for some help.
Thanks!
Hi DefyVictim,
I understand your concerns - the restore process is a little bit complicated, but still not impossible. There is a strange procedure how to get your phone connected in such a way that RSD lite sees it. In the link given by robbak there is a video which is an exactly described tutorial. Did you follow it carefully?
It goes like - you need to FIRST get the bootloader and then connect it to the PC. If I understood it right, you tried to get the bootloader after you got the phone connected - which did not work.
I had a similar issue but finally figured it out. Oh, and there was just another thing - the battery was too low, so I had to do quite risky McGyver method to charge the battery somehow (no charging when your phone is bricked!), but be careful, this is potentially dangerous. Nothing happend for me, because I charged my phone for a minimum of time (like half an hour) to get it working.
Check this thread if you face battery low warning:

I know now it is a pain to get a SBF file, but not sure if the T-mobile should be working unless your phone wasn't coming from T-mobile (?)
