[root] Kingroot - Shield Tablet General

I just wanted to share with you that i just successfully rooted my shield with Kingroot
It is just install apk, touch root and wait.
It rebooted my tlet thefirst try,but worked the second one! No wipe, no flash, no data loss
It worked with my galaxy mini s5 too...

It worked!!!! By the God's!!!! On ota 2.2.1!!! I don't have access to a PC and when I got to one it was xp and didn't work on adb, after a catastrophic recovery fail. I got lucky and got a full ota to flash in nvidias stock recovery but ended up with no root. I thought I was gonna be stuck for a month until family visited with a laptop.... This worked enough to use flashify !!! Thanks for the heads up

Worked for me too.
First three times the operation was unsucessful and the tablet rebooted itself, but then I remember to activate USB depuration and that was it! Rooted at Last.

Anyone have a link to the APK?

There is a post in xda general:

Greetings

Does this work on the latest update anyone can confirm?

Yes, I would also like to know if this will root 5.1. Would also like to unlock the boot loader.

Yes, OTA 3.0 rooted using kingroot, y just installed it to try and viola.

Confirmed on ota 3

I installed it and it locks up around 22% then reboots comes back with a fail. Tried a couple times and my shield tablet on 5.1 will NOT root! Grrr!! It is Kingroot 4.1.

Did you activate USB debug in development options?

Yes, USB debugging was on. It rebooted and I kept trying. After I don't know how many times it finally worked! Lol. Never changed anything. It's rooted now and TWRP is up and running with super su beta installed.

Worked for me with the 4.0 version. 4.1 didn't.

I tried 4.1 and 4.0.5 and both failed at ~20% (tablet reboots). After many attempts I tried it with KingRoot PC and it failed also.
(I have the SHIELD Tablet WiFi version with 5.1 (OTA 3.0) installed.
Do I need to wait for a better root method or is there another way for 5.1?

I had the same problem with KingRoot 4.1 on the Shield Tablet 5.1 and I made sure no Anti-Virus was running and tried it MANY times with a lot of reboots. I would clean the cache and data and stop the app in between fails. I just kept trying and then one time it worked. Not sure why it takes awhile other than it hooks to the server and looks for a way to root the tablet. I finally got mine rooted and TWRP installed and now have Super SU installed. Used root uninstaller to remove KingUser.

Thank you for the info. in this thread. My tablet didnt want to root but after some tries it worked.

4.1 doesn't work any more. 4.0 still does, on ota 3 as well (tested myself on wifi model)

I can confirm - it just works. NO DATA LOSS!!! F... YEAH!

Will KingRoot only root my device or will it also flash custom recovery? Thanks for answer.

have any1 tried to replace KingUser with SuperSU, as in the post it says:
5. Install SuperSu to replace KingUser may be cause some unknown error, although you do can do this.
But i want to know if any1 have tried this...
Thanks.

[Q] Can't get root to restore

I have Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper installed & had done a temp unroot, so I could access Amazon prime content, but now I can't get it to restore the root. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? And it does say "root su restored" after I push the "restore root" button, but even after 2 device restarts, I'm still unrooted. NEED to get on the regular market!
Could it be because it update the os to 6.2? I don't recall what it was before & it never ASKED me to update it, but idk

I doubt it, it's working fine for me and many others on 6.2.
If you used it to unroot before 6.2, then when 6.2 silently upgraded, it would have undone the rooting and killed your OTA rooting.
6.2 didn't ask anyone. if you had wifi connected, it would download without messages. and at some point it would have rebooted, like for me. Or others said once they turned it off it went ahead and did it.
super one click will reroot it in less than a minute and you should be good until next time they do this.

Thanks! I'd bet that's what happened. It's almost always connected to wifi & I've had it rooted for a couple of weeks. Thanks. Back to super one click....
Ok, so I rerooted, but all of my google services are broken still. Reinstalled the apks, but it refuses to install the googleframework.apk. It's on there, asks me about permissions & then says it won't install. I'm clearly missing a step or something.
wierd issue
When I try to reroot my KF after the 6.2 update it roots the device then attempts to reboot into root... and that is when it fails... it just sits on the kindle fire screen flashing like it is rebooting I let it sit for a few minutes and never fineness, however if I hold down the power it will shutdown and I can start it back up but only half way rooted ... and never finished installing superuser or busybody... any ideas?
Not sure about those issues. Different people reported different problems.
Seems not everyone used the same methods. for me googleframework and market worked perfectly fine afterwards, i didnt need to do anything else.
Once my KF updated to 6.2, I could not restore root through OTA Rootkeeper either. Connected it to my computer, ran SuperOneClick, root was restored and backed up my root once again. I think I needed to reset once to ensure that all of my sideloaded apks still worked.
Well I got it figured out I just did a factory reset and reapplied root and now it is working thanks guys

[Q] Encrypting a Galaxy Note 3

I have a new Galaxy Note 3 (having bricked one trying to understand why it wouldn't encrypt) and now with a full stock rom I still find that the phone is impossible to encrypt.
I have an encrypted SD card in it. (only thing I can think of that might be causing problems)..
Settings > General > Security > Encrypt Device keeps stopping after a single shutdown,
How the heck do I encrypt this thing?? - Am I missing the blindingly obvious..
Thanks

I'm having the exact same issue. Encryption is requited to get my work email and I can't get it to go.
Finally got mine to encrypt
Took me a bunch of tries.. and finally once i opened a chat with samsung support it finally worked.. i was at 100% charge, plugged into the wall and if finally worked. not sure if thats a bug in its detection if your over the stated 80% or not... good luck.. i finally got it working though.. only did a fast encryption as it didn't work on previous tries either way... so i just chose one and tried it again.

I have the Google Policy Manager and Encryption is required for me too. I started at 81% and the first time I did it, it just rebooted. The second time I did it it worked like it was suppose to. Try it again right after it reboots and see if it works.
Make sure the phone is charged and keep trying over and over.
It will work eventually.
I gave up. I'm using touchdown now for work email which will allow me to skip full device encryption

anyone at all? im stuck. Bump!
was having a similar problem on nexus 4 but safe mode helped there.
dind't help on my new n3. shouldn't have rooted before encrypting.
tried pressing encrypt about 10 times.
tried boot into recovery + wipe . also tried safe mode. also tried unroot + factory reset (pretty sure recovery + wipe /data is the same as reset user data from settings).
waiting for the firmware image to download - decided to try a firmware reflash
and then before flashing it I tried rebooting to recovery and powering off and encrypting and it worked. or maybe it was that random 12th time it worked because of an unrelated reason.
and after trying to root it again it just booted to a black screen after cf-root and enter encryption password screen.
*sigh*

I'm an AT&T customer, but I bought a T Mobile Note 3 off of Craigslist, unlocked it, rooted using Chainfire's ODIN thread, and then used the RegionFree Lock Away app. I was unable to encrypt just like you guys until I did the following. Flashed TWRP tar file from the TWRP site using ODIN. Rebooted into recovery and made an image, backup up everything, just in case. Rebooted and went in the SU Superuser application that Chainfire originally installed and uninstalled through the settings in the program. Once I rebooted I was able to encrypt the device (without fast method), I already had my SD Card encrypted. Once I encrypted the device I downloaded Kingo Root at the advice of DesignGears and used the one click root application from the Kingo Root site (google it.) After I did that, I now have full root access back, encryption, and never had to uninstall the region lock, so I didn't lose phone connectivity, applications, or anything else during the process. I recommend using TitaniumBackup and syncing via Google Drive or Dropbox before you start the process so you can restore your apps and data, once again, just in case.
encrypted ATT Note 3 not able to root
I was able to unroot my ATT Note 3 and then encrypted it. But Kingo Root failed to root the device. (I used it to root the phone once previously)
Now I stuck in a status with encrypted phone not able to root anymore.
Any suggestions please?

I was able to get mine to encrypt after killing the bloat apps. All Google sync, amazon, and Verizon services. I can't say which one was killing it since it stopped pretty much every app or service that wasn't critical to the device.

Same question here... Anyone was able to encrypt after being rooted???
Same question, rooted can't encrypt.
Just got a note 3 and this is an old thread. So wanted to update this question.
To encrypt device after root all that is needed to do is run the following command from terminal or adb shell as root. You must have the latest busybox installed.
pkill -KILL daemonsu
After running this command you should be back at the "$" prompt and out of root. Do not run su again.
Then encrypt your device. Encryption should work fine. Once rebooted you will have root again.
I had to repeat the above steps because I ran su again. Running su restarts daemonsu.
Good luck
Hi,
I was able to root and encrypt my sm-n900 note3 using the steps mentioned on this post:

Just make sure that you have your backups ready case something goes wrong
I've installed the bloatwares after rooting and encrypt.

New Update for Verizon SGP561 Android 4.4.2

I have the Verizon SGP561 running Android 4.4.2 rooted with PhilZ Touch & CWM & TWRP installed. I just received notice of an OS update. Has anyone else receive this and know what it is? I hesitate to take any updates and don't want to lose root.
OK--- Just found this to answer one of the questions --
OTA update 23.0.1.E.0.208 also includes "optimized touch sensitivity," better performance for users who encrypt their tablet, improved support for TalkBack (Google's accessibility service for the visually impaired), and minor UI tweaks to fonts, icons, and layouts. None of it is particularly crucial, and no , it doesn't include an update to Android: Verizon's version of the Tablet Z2 is running the same build of Android 4.4 that is was back in July. But it's hard to be too miffed about that, since the Wi-Fi version of the Tablet Z2 hasn't been upgraded to Lollipop, either.
Now the question is will I lose root if I apply it...
I would also like to know if we would lose root with this update.

I didn't change my recovery, I only rooted it yesterday and then 20min later enabled su as system app and then survival mode and applied update. No issues here
So far running good, however when I go into settings and tick on airplane mode it actually doesn't goto airplane mode. The only way I can get air plane mode is by holding the power button and selecting air plane mode.
Not sure if this is a error with root or glitch with the new update.
We now have a reboot option tho (not like I have ever needed it on this awesome tab)
On mine the update fails. Says "There was a problem with the update..." As I said, I am on 4.4.2 using NUTs dual recovery and root. I install SuperSu as a system app .
It makes me disappointed I spent money on the sixaxis controller on play store to not figure out how it works for the Z2 tablet a month prior to this update.
Maybe I could use it on other non-Sony devices?
Since my system update thing doesn't work, is there another way of acquiring and applying this update?

I think my fire tablet just updated on its own despite having the adb hide stuff done

Ive just rebooted my fire tablet after installing some minecraft mods, when I turnt it back on it came up with a promt saying it was installing the latest software or what ever it does when doing the ota, I knew this from upgrading to 5.0.1.
is it possible it was just doing what happens when normal android optimises apps on boot. is there a app to check the installed software version as im not near my pc to unhide and go in and check what firmware im on. I put this in general as it wasnt a question but just to inform that my tablet possibly had a update despite the proper steps taken to hide the ota and updates.
Saw Same Message But No Update (whew)!
For a split second I saw that same message too when first starting the Fire up. But nothing happened and nothing updated. So I think it's still blocked. Even checking for updates still fails.
So I think we're OK!

Have you tried unhiding to see the software version
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk
I didn't unhide it, but it says I'm still on 5.0.1. There was no update.
I saw the same thing but it didn't seem to update. I know the method i provided works for 5.0.0 to 5.0.1. Until there is a bump to 5.0.2 or whatever we don't know for sure if the "fix" works under 5.0.1.
Same thing happened to me but it was 3 days ago. I had been trying all day to install my adb drivers without success and switched off the device. When I restarted it immediately went into an update and I went into a panic that the new update would block the ability to access google play but immediately after the assumed "update" I successfully installed the adb drivers and google play without problem. I also checked the version and it still showed 5.0.1 so I wondered if my initial update on switching on the fire for the 1st time had somehow been unsuccessful and that had been what had been causing the inability to load the adb drivers although the tablet hadn't seemed to have any other problems and I had already downloaded and used several apps from Amazon.
I let it update upon first booting my Fire to 5.0.1. I was still successful in installing Google Playstore and hiding ads on lockscreen.
I'm not sure but i think that 'installing the latest software' screen is the android OS updating the dalvik runtime files after rebooting when an apk is modified. nothing to do with an ota.

That is my conclusion also.
I had this happen to me also. Considering amazon patched a root method I made sure to root and nuke any chance of a future OTA unless I wanted it too. That was a cheap move, Amazon.

Sprint/Boost - Kingoroot warning

This application has caused many bricked devices I would like to warn the community of this app because I work with many people with this problem on YouTube even I tried Kingoroot and bricked my device now it's working fine if you would want to check and see if I'm stating the truth just stop on by at my channel at <MOD EDIT - Link Removed> <----- Due to the mods just being like that i will no longer be on xda all my content will be posted on youtube its a bunch of bull**** that they even removed the link
Thanks for the heads up...I was just gonna go that route...It seemed too easy
I wonder if that's the same for the Cricket model too, then since they are all the same spec's and size.
I rooted with kingroot on my boost stylo and it didn't brick but caused a lot of bugs like phone lagging, some apps constantly auto-closing/crashing like browsers, phone freezing up, etc. so I uninstalled kingroot and currently unrooted and the problems stopped completely...people on other forums were saying it's the kinguser app in kingroot that is causing the issues and there is a fix available to remove kinguser and replace it with supersu and people are reporting it is working with no issues but I haven't tried it yet. Can anyone verify that this method works?
Thanks for the heads up bro
No problem man
I'm just wondering if anyone has tried this method to replace kinguser with supersu after rooting with kingroot and can verify it is definitely working with no issues or if there are any issues.

It will brick your phone and will be stuck and have to send it into LG for repair since their is no support for this model. If you switch over to SuperSU update binary and restart phone BRICKED!.
Or KingO ROOT?? Clarify man please.
Has anybody had issues with media with any app pausing randomly? I have not successfully rooted my Stylo, but I have tried King root and it failed. This happened to be the same day Google music, YouTube updated. Possibly other Google apps as well. Just don't know if this was caused by the kingroot attempt or the Google updates.

I wouldn't trust king root or any other 3rd party "universal" root program.
Unfortunately, there is not a lot of support for our LG G Stylo.

I guess my issue didn't have to do with the kingroot attempt. It was the version of Telegram I had that caused the problem. They have since updated and it resolved the issue.

Sprint lg g stylo updated from LP 5.1.1 from here to MM 6.0 from this forum. Lost root etc so I installed kingroot on the phone and have ran it with no problems and have root success, but it does take 2 runs for kingroot to do the trick and the phone does lose root on a reboot. I was able to debloat a bit and if I do need a reboot I just rerun kingroot again 2 times and have root again. I have not tried to replace SU.

I used kingroot on boost stylo on 6.0 and it did work on the second try, but it made some things buggy so I tried deleting it but it says it's a "pre-installed" app now and I can't figure out how to uninstall it. Tried using SuperSU but it fails every time.
