MG9 to MG5 firmware, losing imei

Hi there,
I'm just wondering why my phone is losing its imei (or rather, its changing to the generic 0049xxx) after flashing the latest MG5 firmwares (I tried three different versions now). I first came from MG1, then flashed the MG9 when it came out. Now, when I flash any other firmware, my imei gets f'ed up.
I havent rooted my phone yet, I'm just flashing firmwares I downloaded from sammobile. Is it just because of this MG5 firmwares not being compatible? Will I still be able to flash newer firmwares when it goes out?

I have downloaded the August version for the united arab emirates , it seems to see my imei , but whenever i lock the phone (or screen idle closes the display) 90% of times phone freezes and I need to restart it.

it seems that in the latest roms samsung(for S3,S4) change the efs structure ... thats why imei gets mess if you try to change rom after.but if you change the modem with old one it may works....

but i need to solve this issue if i want go on stock
BTW i have some EFS back up folder can it help in recovering the IMEI issue
also how to CHANGE THE MODEM WITH OLD ONe ????

Hello same problem with installing firmware from MG9 to MG5, the imei resets to 0049000 something, did you find solution to it. Please reply. Thanks in advance.

who flashed the MG9 firmware had their EFS partition modified.
So in case if you have to go back to earlier firmware you will have problems with IMEI. You have to:
- Restore EFS (that is backed up before this change) or
- Flash MG9 modem which can still read the modified EFS.

Flashing or restoring efs backup doesnt work after flashing mg9.
You need to return to your firmware when you first get your phone out of the box with clean install and wiping everything in cwm before getting into download mode.
Then after flashing the firmware, root then restore efs backup.

so what is new
once you flashed the MG9, the efs partition format has been changed, so if you downgrade (regardless if to the original stock) you must restore the efs partition from the backup you made or just flash MG9 modem.

Guys, If I flash with MG5 firmware and then flash with modem of MG9? Will it work ?

Hi, I have I9500, and I need flash with older modem, but it will lost imei (0049xxx).- Is possible change partition of efs de new format to older format? Or Edit modem version name, *#1234# for see older version by the warranty requirements?

Have you click "Phone EFS Clear" on odin ??? when you click this is your phone bricked and you can fix it with jtag box ....have you a backup of your EFS Floder ? When yes restore your EFS Floder and your Phone is unbricked and working back again ....

I have flashed pda and csc from older version with new modem, and phone it´s ok.-
But if I install this flash with new modem, imei is 0049...
I need patch name of modem or re-partition efs.-
I believe not exist jtag for I9500...

is your baseband "UNKNOWN" ?

My phone is ok, but for warranty/carrier requirements, I need have flashed old version in a new unit, with original mg9 modem.-
Therefore I can think one of two solutions: efs re-partition(new format to older format) or "lie" (changed version name on menu) on the version of modem.-

Sorry bro I have no idea what u are talking about. But one thing I can answer the downgrade from 4.4 to 4.3 is not possible by now if. What exactly happened?

baseband version unknown after upgrade to 4.4.2 via odin (1 month a go), no gsm network no sim detect, imei lost.

Did you backup efs? If you did restore it. If not then try flashing this in recovery.. Or try flashing stock again.

Actually it IS possible for the n900, the knox reset also let's users downgrade if they so choose to.. But he doesn't need to downgrade, he lost his efs/imei and that can be fixed if he made a backup or by using the other options that I listed.

please how to make a safe downgrade?? i think that can fix the problem, i have not an efs backup & flashing roms don't solve (i did that many time) same result "unknown baseband version"!! thanks bro, knox warranty void 0 samsung official.

Do not try to recover EFS...
It is not the problem, the problem is that you have unknown baseband (Modem damage)... Please check if it can mount /EFS folder (Check in recovery)
It it fails to mount /EFS, then you will probally need to find someone with a Asansam box to fix it...
Remember to backup you EFS folder

IMEI null/null comes from modem failure. It is not because your EFS is wiped, if your EFS was wiped, then you would get a generic IMEI number 0044.....
But try to go to recovery, do you get "failed to mount /EFS"
But your IMEI null/null could also be a hw failure...
But I would try to flash a 4 part 4.4.2 firmware
Remember to backup your EFS, it is not corrupted...

i did a mount /EFS from recovery but no msg "failed to mount /EFS" no thing,
i think my EFS is corrupted or wiped !! how to verify that ?? thanks

IMEI null/null has nothing to do with a wiped EFS. It is modem problem, or HW failure. I would start flashing a 4 part firmware, eg this one

I faced this problom and i found solution
Throug tool named (((GSII-REPAIRE))))
in google play first you have to :
1. Root your phone
2.install busybox
3.downlaod and install GSII-REPAIER
4.CLICK REPIER IN THE APP (MOUNT)
5.Hoha now enjoy your imei the real one is back and the network

Hi friends. I am new to xda. I have same problem last 4 months. I have tried flash different stock roms but no use. When i check phone info it showing
Original CSC is INU. But showing other CSC is THL (wrong). Modem is blank. SW Version is unknown. My guess is modem and csc related issue. I have tried flash modem, but not affected. CSC also not affected. Why this happen?

Do you have a backup of your EFS??

It is because you have a modem/firmware mismatch.
Just flash the correct modem for your firmware, and your problem will be solved
Edit: It will solve IMEI Null/null and unknown baseband. And hopefully you will have your correct IMEI, and not 0049...

Yes you are right, you have to flash firmware's modem file! Firmware and modem file must match eact other

lost IMEI, please help!

Model NO:- GT-I9500, INDIA BLACK EDITION
without any knowledge of efs i just downgraded from 5.0.1 to 4.4.2, and i lost my IMEI.
my IMEI is shown as null. I searched a lot, and found that there is some problem with EFS, but could not find a solution.
I've tried flashing some modems, and I'm also currently downloading the 5.0.1 firmware and will try and flash it.
now is there any solution to get my IMEI back without any EFS backup, and preferably without root?
I managed to get a 'efs.tar.gz' file from somewhere, but i dont know how to insert my IMEI into it, and flash it via odin?
any detailed solution please?

Reinstall the 5.0.1 firmware. Your IMEI should then be restored.
