Since updating to lollipop I have had occasional rapid battery drains. The phone would drain at a rate of 4 hours from full to nothing and the phone would get very hot. Looking at the battery stats the only thing odd I could see is the phone was awake the entire time. My first thought was an app that might be keeping it awake but I was unable to find one responsible. I finally figured it out yesterday.
I use a belt pouch that has a magnet. The bottom of the phone is near this magnet when it is in the pouch. Under KitKat this would cause the phone to bring up the S-view screen, but it would quickly go back off so it was not problem. The phone would properly sleep while in the belt pouch. What now happens under lollipop is the magnet causes both the phone to stay awake and sometimes the screen to come on dim while in the pouch. With the phone not in the pouch the battery consumption has gone back to normal of 60-70% remaining at the end of the day.
So apparently the lollipop has changed the response to magnets near the base of the phone.
Good detective work.:good: Most people would just say Lollipop sucks I want an iPhone.

First some backgound.
In preparation for a big event where I will be using my phone for web surfing a lot, I pick up the huge brick2600mah battery. It works well and last all day. I forgot my charger and had to charge the phone over USB and that only seems to charge the battery to 75%. But that is a different issue.
So when I get home, I put back in the stock battery so the phone will no longer be a brick in my picket any more. (The 2600mah battery will be used for events where I need the power)
But the stock battery is not lasting very long at all any more. The capacity seems to be down 50%. I left it in my truck once and came back to find it almost dead. It went from fully charged with the car charger to dead in 2 hours.
A week or so later, in the same spot, I knew I was going to be out of ear shot, so I left my fully charged phone, in airplane mode to save the battery. 4 hours later and it's dead like a door nail.
I have since done the same and the battery is low after 6 hours, but not dead. Something strange is going on. I have ran the phone till dead 3 times and fully charged it and that seemed to help, but it's still not happy. It also takes 8+ hours to charge.
A few hours ago, I managed to hard lock the phone, so I pop out the battery. The battery swollen. Not Sony like, but like something inside is really pressing hard against the case and wants to get out. Note I am talking about the stock HTC battery, not the brick.
My stock battery problems may be unrelated to the use of the 2600 brick battery, but I figure it's worth bringing up.
Anyone else seen this? Can I bug T-Mobile about getting a new battery?
Any suggestions next to bury it in a hole before it explodes and kills us all?
If the stock as really swollen, you'd better contact Tmo and get a replacement. I think it might got over heated when you left it in the truck. Did you put it on the dashboard? Was that a hot sunny day? Any temperature above 60 degrees Celsius can cause permanent damage to lithium-ion batteries. Crystals growing on one of the electrodes (can't remember which) can penetrate the insulation and touch the other side, causing a internal short. This will heat the liquids inside the battery and when the pressure rise beyond control...
You need a new battery, batteries can swell like that either from heat or too high current drained. Might be a defect in the battery from the start as well tho (short-circuit waiting to happen or something, who knows?)

Any lithium battery that experiences swelling should immediately be viewed as a potential hazard. At this point you cannot drop it off in a battery recycling drop-off point (and perish the thought of just tossing it in the trash). I recommend you take it to a T-Mo store and demand an exchange for a new battery. You'll also be relieved of the responsibility to deal with disposing of it properly.
Nice game of connecting the dots. I normally put my phone in the shade when left in my truck for several hours. But I miscalculated the position of the sun and when I checked back in a few hours, it was not in direct sunlight and hot. Not too hot to handle, but toasty. Only happened once, but I guess that sure could be the cause.
The battery is not hot now or bursting out of it's case, and I have been using it for 2 months so I don't think it will be an issue recycling it. Is a T-Mobile store just going to hand over a new battery to me?
Bonus, I now know why the battery in my GPS only lasted 2 months.
Even if it's not in direct sunlight, the temp inside of a car on a sunny day can easily go over 200 degrees F... in many cases going up to 300 degrees.

As said 100% correctly by jashsu, your battery is basically hazardous. Keep it away from anything you want to stay alive (you, your property, your G1...) until you can get it to T-Mobile.
XDA does not condone this, but your best bet to get a new battery is to lie. If you tell them you left it in the sun, they're most likely not going to replace it. Play dumb and tell them nothing odd happened and you have no idea why it did it.
If you bought it from em and are still in contract with them, I'd be pretty shocked if they didn't replace it on the spot (even if you don't have warranty). Until then, do NOT use the battery, and be thankful that it didn't destroy your G1.

water boils at 200 degrees, there is no way a car goes to 300 degrees, it would explode....

Guess I got my numbers mixed up... according to a few websites, they can get up near 200 degrees.

I have been still using the phone. Bloated battery and on. It has not tried to kill me as of yet.
Today I went down to the t-mobile store and told the guy at the counter that my phone was only holding a charge for 5 hours at most. He suggested a battery swap and if that does not fix it, a phone swap. I handed him my puffed out battery, and he handed me a new, slimmer one. He never asked for my phone, my number, or nothing else. Once again I am reminded why I go with the only carrier that does not offer 3G service in my area. T-Mobile service rocks.
Crazy freaking phone man, I've never seen something like this.
My phone was exposed to 15 degree(f) weather and I when I tried to use it the screen would move so slow, the buttons wouldn't move on the phone and I checked the HTC battery widget and it said my battery temp was -6c. I turned off the phone and sat it by my heater to warm it up I had to pry out the battery. The screen had frost on it. It was working but will it turn back on? should I turn it back on?
Id say wait a while close to the heater, by while I mean a few hours, to make sure moisture will not damage the phone.
Edit: not you by the phone, just the phone.
My heater warmed it up pretty fast. I turned it back on and my battery level dropped like 15% so I'm hoping I didn't mess up the battery.
why would you expose a smart phone to those kind of temps for a prolonged period? doesnt seem very wise does it.
Put it in rice if you have it. Don't worry, won't damage the phone. Rice absorbs all the condensation.
My phone shuts down when i open the battery cover, it started happening a few days ago. Sometimes it turns off without opening the battery cover, but it is probably related to the problem, since it started occuring approximately at the same time. The battery doesn't move when i open the battery cover, It doesn't happen every time i open the battery cover, but it is really anoying when it happens, especially when it shuts down by itself.
EDIT: while writing this i opened and closed the back a few times, phone turned off two times
Try this.
keep Ur phone screen downward. Maintaining this scrictly open the battery cover. See if the phn is off..
Do several times. & tell me d results.

Think this is because the screw of the back plastic, i.e. the screw which holds back the battery to the casing, check it or the wire has been broken, and in contact because of other grippers or wires from welding.
Check it out.
OR just it may be a sensor problem.
Dont know, can you upload pictures or video?
Try putting a thick piece of rolled up paper between the battery and back cover

It's probably the sensor, i reflashed back to 2.2 jps and there was no problem so far. So far. There is nothing wierd about the hardware of the phone, so pics and vid are useless, i compared mine with friends G3 and they look identical under the hood, probably the sensors got a bit messed up. We will see if the problem presists, but i doubt it will.
EDIT: The phone was on my desk for like 20 mins, i didn't even touch it, it turned it self off with no sign or reason or warning. I will flash stock firmware and go to SamFu*kingSuck service, i hate this phone, it always dies on me when i need it. I will never ever buy a product from samsuck again. My next phone will be HTC and i will try to get it as soon as possible. Thank you all for making this piece of junk phone better and better every day for us that got screwed by samsuck. Really, a big thanks to all developers that even bother with this junk. Sry for ranting BTW
LG G5 *Note Verizon acknowledged this was indeed an issue!
I wanted to mention something quickly to perhaps save others heartbreak.
I run and use the eleptical for extended periods of time. Mind you, My pockets are not wet but perhaps damp After an hour or more. I took my phone out and made sure I was not drowning. To my surprise the phone was dry except a small amount of moisture near the rear finger sensor.
It seemed nothing of concern. After exercising was completed, the fingerprint sensor was non responsive and intermittent. I got home, looked at the device, it was acting erratic. Screen was turning on and off as if someone was pressing the sensor 50 times a second, battery got very hot (not note 7 hot).
I could no longer power down phone, pulled battery. When battery was inserted phone booted but back button was no use, can't power down, turn off screen.
I read somewhere, don't quote me. Exercise creates a barrier of 2 inches of 80% moisture barrier when doing hard cardio.
Too lazy to find article, not good at story time.
Fix: 5.00 waterproof pouch with lanyard.
The best!
Thank you so much for taking your time writing this! I'll thank that to my attention as someone who lives in an extremely humid area in terms of, my sweat never dries unless i wipe it on a different object, and since the sweat wouldn't evaporate, it will build up and can reach situations where it's dropping off my forehead when i stare down the ground, so my clothes could get extremely wet when I sweat, never thought about it harming the phone, preheps since I don't really exercise.
But sure as hell gonna keep that in mind when it comes to heavy duty!

Hello,
I just had something similar happen with my LG G5.
I got hot & sweaty picking berries, with phone tucked in my bra. The phone seemed fine at the time, but within an hour of finishing, the phone stopped working. The water damage indicator is fine, as if no water damage. But unable to use the screen or back power button.
Is the phone just trash now?
It's been 3 hours of letting it sit with the battery removed, and still no improvement.
Thank you for your help.
I don't know why it heats up when it's in my pant pocket. Is pressure the reason? The battery drains because of it. Anyone have any idea?

Using fingerprint lock? It might be the reason.
My best guess is only your pocket is too tight ( yeah because of the pressure ), so the phone doesnt get enough air to cool itself ? I guess soo...
If you said battery drains because of it, maybe apps draining the battery
Does it happen even its laying down on table or any surface ?
Bonus : When you are using phone and get direct sunlight, the screen will get hot too and not because of your phone idling or something( ofcourse )
Its because of the fingerprint sensor....
The fingerprint detects even very little amount of dust on it that invisible to the eye....
When that happens your goes out of deep sleep because of the cdfinger wakelock....
So you can turn off the sensor or if your phone is rooted use naptime... It helps me, my phone never drains battery when its not in use even for 7-8 hrs.....
Also if you're gonna use fingerprint then keep it clean always.
