[Q] G900V_OA8_100%_Stock_Rooted_ROM trying to update - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I looked but didn't find answer? Device: Samsung SM-G900V, I flashed the G900V_OA8_100%_Stock_Rooted_ROM Via safe strap. Android version 5.0 ,build # LRX21t.G900VVRU1B0a8, Kernel version 3.4.0 [email protected] #1 Tue Jan 27 14:17:05 KST 2015
I'm getting update notifications for enhanced content? I assume I will lose root if I allow? I have disabled auto update in TiBk
Can someone tell me if I am able to accept the download w/o losing root. Thank you.

The update has been confirmed to keep root, but if you wan't to be 100% sure you'll keep root there is a thread in the general section about updating to OC4 and keeping root. It has a ROM just like the one you're using except it's OC4.

[Q] Newbie

My phone just updated this morning, I don't know what version I was on before, but now my root is gone.
I used Odin to put L720VPUAMDC_L720SPTAMDC_L720VPUAMDC_HOME.tar on my phone the last time I rooted.
But now I am worried that something has changed, and if I use that to put it back on my phone, and regain the root; something will go wrong and bam, brick.
Any assistance would be great.

[Q] Questions about rooting my Galaxy S4

Hello, I have a few questions about rooting my Samsung Galaxy S4.
I want to root to enable some hidden CSC features, edit the hosts file and to install an adblocker.
Not to install an custom ROM.
But I have a few questions.
Do I still get OTA updates after rooting my device?
And what happens after I update, do I lose root, are those CSC features and the hosts file resetted, and is the adblocker uninstalled?
I am currently running the latest version of Samsung.
Information about my device:
Model number: GT-I9505
Android version: 4.3
Baseband version: I9505XXUEMKF
Kernel version: 3.4.0-2082040, [email protected] #1, Wed Nov 27 22:04:32 KST 2013
Build number: JSS15J.I9505XXUEMKF
SE for Android status: Enforcing, SEPF_GT-I9505_4.3_0018
Secure boot status: Type: Samsung
And under status I see "Device status: Official".
Thanks.
I'd like to know this as well. I've got no interest in flashing ROM's or anything like that, just need root to run a few Apps I use. How does this affect updating, and can it be easily rolled back for warranty purposes?
Thanks for any help.

Oh yeah, and do you keep warranty?
We in the Netherlands have a law that the warranty does not get voided if you root it.
Dutch law said:
If the failure of a phone is not the direct result of the rooting or jailbreaking, the warranty remains valid, even if the terms of the seller states that it is not the case.

Best path to Privacy Guard?

Hello!
I'm on my 3rd Android device and I've previously used Cyanogenmod just because it offers the Privacy Guard feature.
However, I didn't realize that this wonderful new-to-me AT& T Galaxy S 4 is substantially more complex when it comes to installing something such as CM. While I'm familiar with using a tool such as heimdall to install a custom recovery, such as TWRP, I haven't previously had to root before.
In going through the FAQ, it states that I should install Safestrap, but the page it links to doesn't include a version for NC1. In searching through the forums, I see that there are other root options, such as Towelroot, but, even if Towelroot works, I have no idea what to do after rooting with Towelroot.
So what I am hoping is that someone can kindly just map out the steps for me to get where I want, which is to have a Privacy Guard type feature on my phone, be it through CM or another ROM. And what I mean by 'map out' is that it isn't necessary to explain every detail of every procedure, just generally list what needs to be done and I can usually figure out the rest.
The phone is currently 'locked' to AT&T and here are the device details:

Unable to root SM-G900V S5 Verizon

Hello. I have used this forum many of times and have found great info on rooting. But I am stumped on this. I have
Verizon Galaxy S5
Model number: SM-G900V
Android Version: 4.4.4
Baseband Version: G900VRU1ANI2
Kernel Version: 3.4.0
[email protected]#1
Sun Sep. 14 18:04:11 KST 2014
Build Number: KTU84P.G900VVRU1ANI2
Hardware Version: G900V.05
I tried to use towelroot.com and when I tap the sign, all I get is sent to another page with a bunch of visual code. No make it rain, no nothing. Then I downloaded Odin, unzipped the file, did not see a .tar file anywhere and when I put my phone into download mode, connect it to my computer, my device does not show up in the accept box. Maybe I'm doing something wrong or there isn't a rootable way for my device yet. Any information will help. Thanks
Solution.

I have the same exact build number and I managed get my handset stuck in a recovery bootloop. I ODIN back to stock. Back to square one. At least I didn't brick it.
I dont have a g900v, but laat i checked they were in almoat identical boats as the g900a, and last i checked for us, theres no way to root lollipop or downgrade or anything, so the reason you are unable is because you cant.

Thanks. I'll stop trying. It would be insane to fire up ODIN again and flash something older, when they have already patched the stuff. I just wanted 'root', sigh.

I dont think you can if you are already on 5.0, if you were rooted on 4.4.2 you could but if you werent youre stuck.

I had to flash 4.4.4 on top of 5.0 before doing anything else. Here's the process.

Your problem lies where mine does. Depending on the baseband version you have, means that the bootloader may or may not have an exploit available to allow root etc.
For him, the OA8 version allows a root method. As for you, on OC4 as well as the one I have, OG5, is un rootable as far as I know. At least for right now.
If you require, tethering, mobile Hotspot (if you have unlimited data like me), call recording, ad blocking etc. These things are still possible without root on your Verizon s5. I made a post about it a few pages back. However these are the programs I use for those things while we wait for root .
No root is required for these apps to work properly on the Verizon galaxy s5. They all have free trials but a couple require purchase for full functionality. Money well spent imo.
"Call Recorder" by Skvalex - call recording & management ($8
"PDANET" or "FoxFi" (PDANET includes foxfi) - for tethering & wifi Hotspot ($7)
"Block It!" - VPN ad blocking service. (Free but not available on Google play)

Sm-g900v rootable bootloaders?

[Q] Not sure if I can re-root

Hello,
I have a Verizon SM-G900V,
Version: 4.4.4
baseband: G900VVRU1ANK7
Kernel Version: 3.4.0 [email protected] #1
Build number: KTU84P.G900VVRU1ANK7
Hardware: G900V.05
And I had my phone rooted but the updates kept popping up and I wasn't sure how to disable them. I have platinum backup but I just read about "Freeze" option. Unfortunately, I can't use it anymore because I don't have root access. I think my phone partially updated, for the 5.0. It did restart and optimize some settings but I can't use the playstore anymore, and I don't have any SuperSu.
I'm not sure if I should just go ahead and update it since I don't have any other option to use the play store, or is it possible if i can just re-root it based on the 4.4.4?
This was my 1st time rooting it, I used to have an iPhone so I tried to supply as much info as I could.
Thanks!
