Accidentally Formatted Internal Storage - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was careless and accidentally wiped/formatted my internal storage. Now my phone only boots to the first (Samsung) screen then loops. Safestrap won't even load. What are my options? :crying:
Edit 1:
Finally got it to stop looping and made it sit on Samsung Galaxy S5 screen on my computer it is only recognized as a CD Drive.
Edit 2:
Downloaded ADB but can't get it to recognize the phone using adb devices...
Got ADB to work didn't know of the special boot options, but I don't think the ROMs I'm trying to ADB sideload is working since it just boots up to the Samsung Galaxy screen and sits there again.

Going to need your phone model, based off the fact that youre using safestrap though i'll guess att model or verizon model. First things first, boot in to download mode, (voldown+home button+power button) and connext your phone to your computer with the original cable that came with the phone, download odin and your phone's firmware, and flash in odin. You should be back up and running.

Locked bootloader, nothing but touchwiz based roms and no armoa either. Please do some more reasearch before you end up seriously messing up your device.

Please be more specific.
What tutorial did you use?
Did you download clockwork recovery?
Do you have the superuser zip?
If you can enable fast boot and fastboot flash recovery you should be able to mount your usb storage in CWM and then install a ROM and the su zip.
stuck on the nexus s boot screen

i used the one mentioned in addictive tips website (http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-root-nexus-s-with-a-single-click-using-superboot/). i basically followed what these guys had mentioned.
since this failed i read that the other option is to go through fastboot > recovery > and clear everything but this did not change anything.
can someone give me a step by step guideline on how to continue. i dont mind going back to the stock 2.3.4 android. i just bought the phone yesterday
Which version do you have? The sprint or t mobile? Check if you can go into fast boot hold down volume up and then powerbutton. If not you may have to Odin it if not. That super one click looks old..

If your ROM flashed incorrectly, it would lead to your phone being in a state where it just shows a GOOGLE with a Padlock; kind of like turning on a computer without an operating system.
You would have to read the instructions on rooting your phone, which involves using fastboot and flash recovery from fastboot (All this is in the rooting guide). Simply reflash the recovery so you boot up back in recovery and try flash the rom again.
The same happened to me, I fixed it buy flashing a stock boot.img

thanks for the replies. how do i flash from the fastboot mode? when i plug it in to my computer i cant see the drive but my computer can detect the nexus s is plugged in
Set up adb first, they have the guides in the dev section, I used wolverines guide, you'll have to look for the software img, I don't know where it is at for the GSM model. Good luck

Sounds like you're rooted and have recovery installed, but your OS is hosed.
Flash a ROM.
thanks for the replies guys. i have the adb setup on my laptop. i took it to one of the stores and he said he cant reflash it for some reason. he said he needs to get some software off samsung and it will take him a day. my phone is brand new and i didnt wanna trust him. do u guys think i should use odin? one of my friend has a galaxy s and he said odin should work fine on my phone.
Can you get into the ClockworkMod recovery menu? Turn the phone completely off then hold VolUp and Power until you get into Recovery.
If you get there, you're golden. Just download a ROM (I recommend Deck's) and away you go.
i can get into recovery but it gives me option like wipe everything and i selected that. but when i reboot the phone the same locked screen pops up. anyone from toronto here who i can contact?

Basically with those wipe commands you make the Rom unuseable. You have to flash a new one or apply it via Odin. There are various guides on this forum section. Odin requires less technical knowledge but is a bit more risky then flashing via recovery. Odin and the Roms for that method can be obtained from samfirmware.com. Zipped roms can be found in the development section here.

If you can get into dl mode, and hopefully you made a nandroid, flash this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40807244
As soon as it finishes, hold power, volume up, and home simultaneously to boot into recovery. That should get you out of the water
Edit: my fault, didnt read closely enough. If you have a microsd adapter for your computer, save a copy of the stock rooted on your sd card via your computer and try a new flash. Sounds like you may have gotten a bad download
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 2
You might want to try this one click of the stock image. Just run the program, put your phone in download mode and flash. I would recommend doing a full restore just in case http://www.rwilco12.com/downloads.php?dir=Files/Devices/Samsung Galaxy S4 (SPH-L720)/Stock ROMs/MDC

[Q] unbrick Sprint Galaxy S4 SPH-L720

I installed cyanogenmod & clockworkmod yesterday and it appeared to work fine. But this morning, it was bricked and when I try to boot it up, it quickly flashes the Samsung Galaxy S4 screen and then shuts off again. It does not boot into recovery mode at all, but it does boot into download/odin mode. When i tried to install the stock rom through download/odin mode it kept coming up with fail messages in the odin pc application. I tried multiple versions of odin yet it continued to fail, when I took it to the Sprint store they said there was nothing they could do but have me send it back to Samsung, and since it is rooted with a custom rom Samsung may not honor the warranty. What, if any, are my options for installing a working rom and getting it to at least boot into recovery mode? Thank you.
What Android version Were you on before, I have a feeling you were odining the wrong file.

I was on 4.4.2 before root and I was running cyanogenmod 11 before it, well...
So you will have to Odin the NAE tar.

Um, this is awkward but after many attempts to re-install clockworkmod, so I could boot into recovery mode, it finally, magically, worked! I had to use some mac software and push the file onto my phone through download mode but it somehow worked, thank you for your help but I already have cyanogenmod running again. Thanks again! :victory:
same thing happened to me, ODIN wasn't letting me flash anything, then I realized I accidentally screwed up my bootloader and I found the most updated version that no one had posted on the forums. I still couldn't get my phone to boot (boot loop), so I just took the SIM card out and it booted just fine.... I put the card back in and everything was okay. I don't know wtf happened, but I thought I screwed up my phone the first hour I had it.

Bricked my phone, can get recovery but not download mode. Please help me.

I tried to flash a rom and something went wrong because when the phone booted back up it went straight to recovery. It says at the top of my recovery: Android system recovery <3e> LRX21T.G900VVRU1BOA8, if that helps. I tried to get to download mode it simply redirects back to recovery. Please help. I can adb sideload, so is there anything i can sideload that will fix my phone or get me download mode? This is my only phone i really could use some help. Thank you.

You are right! Sorry!
if that doesn't work, you can try getting a usb jig which forces download mode when it's plugged in. I got one a couple of years ago when I had a Galaxy S2, and it has worked on other phones, including my GS5 :

or make your own:

Thank you.
Can it be rooted?
I had no trouble rooting PK1 using Chainfire's CF-Auto-Root found here under G900P:

Help thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1980683
(this will trip Knox)
OP, will this work with the latest update for the Samsung Galaxy S5?
Model Number - SM-G900P
Android Version - 6.0.1
Android Security Patch Level - December 1, 2016
Baseband Version - G900PVPU3CPL2
Build Number - MMB29M.G900PVPU3CPL2
After flashing this via odin I'm stuck on the SAMSUNG logo screen that dims and gets brighter while the capacitive buttons are lit. Can't get past this screen and already did a factory reset with the stock recovery. Any suggestions?

Never mind, a reflash took care of it. Thanks to the OP for this.
G900PVPU3CPL2 Tar
Here's a mega link to the G900PVPU3CPL2 tar file.
CF-Auto-Root also works with PL2. See my post #4 above.
Just to be clear does anyone know if this can be used to downgrade from PL2 back to PK1?

I'm not sure but usually you can go back between versions, LP to LP, MM to MM. You just must try, you won't damage your phone, Odin will just print a Fail Message. Be sure to have latest one, as you may get a soft brick.

I had the same problem (stuck on the Samsung screen). I tried reflashing, but that didn't work. What ROM were you coming from? I'm trying to "downgrade" from CM 7, since I'd like to be able to access the sensors and SMS not working doesn't seem like much of an upgrade.

I had the same problem, 3 things I did to fix this:
1. Take out external SD card, the Android directory on it will cause bootloop
2. Before Odin the new firmware, boot into recovery to do a factory reset and wipe everything including internal SD card
3. power off phone, then reboot to recovery using power-vol down-home
The bottom line is to keep your phone in factory-new mode before Odin the new firmware
