It does not work with LP. Please read AT&T note 4 forum in general section look for root threads. If you want root, you have to downgrade to kk.
Im on stock lolipop , if i downgrade to stock 4.4.4 it shouldnt trip knox right ?
I don't really know if there is any AT&T note edge odin package to take it back to kk. Why don't you open a new thread in q&a asking about this. Note 4 owners have taken device back to kk from LP with no issues, but they do have odin package.

Not quite yet... We are waiting for someone to either get a persistent root or maybe find a way to get it directly from Samsung.

You can use odin to flash official firmware and it doesn't trip knox. You can download the firmware from sammobile, they have all the firmware's for AT&T and Verizon, Sprint, etc
Download the firmware from sammobile
Load the tar file in odin, in the PDA. Odin will check the file. Put your phone in download mode. Hit start, wait, your phone will flash the official software, boot up to a brand new kit kit... falsh kingroot 4.00 and have a nice day. This does not trip knox, I say again flashing official firmware does not trip knox. Only custom recovery flashed in odin trip knox. MAKE SURE THE FILE YOU DOWNLOAD FROM SAMMOBILE IS FOR YOUR PHONE!!! You can find your model number in your settings in the about section

It appears they will soon be done with the root for note 4 that wont trip knox.
Lets hope someone here can replicate it for note edge...

I'm the one who provided the Verizon Note Edge firmware to sammobile. You can pull the file yourself. I put together the information on the note edge thread. See below

I was stupid and took the OTA to lollipop so now I either have to try to get it from Best Buy or wait for someone else to pull it
Something very strange just happened with my phone. I installed Kingroot, let it run and it rebooted at about 58% and said "Optimizing app 1 of 431", it ran through all of it and then came back up. I didn't notice anything. So I went and opened up King User, it said it couldn't root it. So I went to Kingroot (I believe), and there was a sad face with a tear. I backed out, went back and hit root (I believe), next thing I know, it reboot by itself, and it says "custom" with an unlocked lock on the front. Right now it's optimizing app x of 103. I'm waiting for it to finish to see what happens . . .
It's a Verizon phone, btw.
---------- Post added at 12:47 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:36 AM ----------
Once it was done with the 103 apps, I looked and King User was gone, just Kingroot. I reboot it again and it didn't say "custom" on it - I had another phone out and ready to take a picture, too. Oh well . . .
So, in theory, we could use the temp root to download/install ti backup and kill off the bloatware? Has anyone actually gotten the root to work on the VZW Note Edge?

Thanks guys for your noob support :good: So this isnt the route....
1. Download the rom zip file.
2. Copy the zip file to the root of your phone's internal SD
3. Disable reactivation lock under settings > security
4. Run Mobile Odin Pro. Allow SU access if prompted.
5. Mobile odin pro will ask you to update some stuff if it is run for the first time. Just update it and do not ask in the forum if it is safe.
6. There will also be a standard warning that it will trip knox. Knox will not be trip and just press OK. Do not ask in the forum if it is safe.
7. Load N9005XXUENA6_N9005OXXENA5_N9005XXUENA2_HOME.tar.md5 in MOP
8. Enable EverRoot, Choose option "Download mode" in After flashing. Start flashing.
9. After booted into Download Mode, connect your phone to your computer and run Odin 3.09.
10. Load N9005XXUENA6_BL-Only.tar.md5 in the BL section
11. Check Phone Bootloader Update and F.Reset.time, uncheck Auto Reboot and Start Flashing.
12. When Odin says RESET!, switch off your phone and reboot normally.
13. Reflash CSC with odin or MOP to avoid any further issue with keyboard or auto restart
14. DONE
UK does now have official N9005XXUENB7_N9005OXAENB1_BTU but if the above is correct how do I get a BL-Only for my firmware version or is this not necessary?

This is because your phone isn't supported by TowelRoot yet as it is a new device. But don't worry, you can definitely try the CF Auto Root.

I tried the towelroot application but it says that my phone is not supported, even though others have seemed to do this easily. Any suggestions? I use a Mac Computer as well, which doesn't make it any easier....

I'm looking for some help to return to stock on my Note 3. I'm a very casual rooter and don't flash any ROM's. The only reason I rooted in the past was to get free WiFi tether but we now have that for free on our account (family plan.) My wife also has the Note 3, completely stock, and has gotten several updates and is now on lollipop.
I rooted about a year ago, maybe 14 months. I used a method that at the time was very popular here... safestrap and Odin. Easy to follow. I've rooted every phone I've had going back to the original Droid but I've never gone this long without returning to stock so I'm a little worried about the process. Everything is backed up and ready to go on the device.
I would like to return to stock and then take the OTA's up to Lollipop.
This is my current setup:
Safestrap 3.72 (TWRP v2.7.0.0)
"Stock" boot option
4 Empty ROM slots
SM-N900V
Phone 4.4.2
Baseband: N900VVRUCNC2
Kernel: 3.4.0
Build: KOT49H.N900VVRUCNC2
Hardware:N900V.07
SuperSU v2.46
As a side note, what's the current thoughts about lollipop, if I take the OTA's up to it am I hosed if I were to want to root? (Not my plan but just in case) Are there benefits over 4.4.2, should I just stay where I am?
Thanks!

Unrooting will make your phone as it was before (loose root access) and you'll be able to update your phone through OTA's.
If you love rooting then you can reroot your device after update.
If you found this helpful, there's a thumbs up button, just press it.

Ok, going to try this tonight.. sorry for the long delay in responding. I'm going to be trying the Super Su method, according to Hitman-XDA it will work for me. My last question is will this also unlock my phone along with unrooting? Currently I am unlocked and rooted.. I mainly want to return to stock to nab OTA's that I've missed out on. Also my VM is broken and I'm fairly positive that will fix it.
Ok, I did not use the SuperSU unroot feature, I read quite a bit more and from what I came to understand it would not work.
I used ODIN to flash a stock version of 4.4.2, that worked great and fully unrooted me. It did not re-lock my bootloader but 4.4.4 OTA was waiting and it locked the bootloader in the process of updating. Then I got 3 or 4 updates taking me all the way to 5.0 with no issues.
Heads up, from what I could find there is only 1 place to download a stock 4.4.2 firmware, rapidgator... it sucks and was really slow to DL. I let it go overnight. When done unzip it, use ODIN and G2G.
Can you upload the firmware file to mega.co.nz ? and share the link?

If this is like a lot of Samsung devices then what's going on is the early firmware (NE2) was rootable with towelroot, but the more recent one (NK1) is not. Check your settings > about tablet to see which build number you're on (I'm assuming it's NK1). The most immediate solution would be to just downgrade the firmware, root, and stay with that (disable update notifications/freeze the updater app).
However, if you know what you're doing, it's only the kernel that needs to be changed. So extract the kernel file (boot.img) from both firmware files and make a tar file for each boot.img. Flash the older kernel, root with towelroot, then flash the newer kernel, and voila you're rooted on the latest build. Your call

If this is like a lot of Samsung devices then what's going on is the early firmware (NE2) was rootable with towelroot, but the more recent one (NK1) is not. Check your settings > about tablet to see which build number you're on (I'm assuming it's NK1). I have not tried, sorry
I did this with the t337a, if you want I could take a shot at it. I have no way of making sure it works though. Let me know if you are interested or if anyone would be willing to test the kernel.
I own the Tab S. It was released after towelroot was patched. So recently when Kingroot update their root method and such, we now can root with kingroot on KitKat ANK1 firmwares and not trip Knox. Of course people who owned att devices said it worked and some with Verizon said it didn't work. I mean its worth a try if anyone wants to try kingroot.

Hi ive got kingroot goin and it says its rooted but when u restart it, its gone.
Hello,
I have a galaxy s4 on 4.4.2 that I rooted using kingroot a while back. It is a US Cellular SCH-R970. Knox has not been tripped. Under device status it says the phone is custom. This means I cannot update to 5.0.1.
My question is, how would I return the phone to official status without 1. Tripping knox, and 2. Keeping all of my data. Also, do you know if I can root with kingroot once I get on 5.0.1.
Baseband is R970TYUFNK1.
Thank You!
Hi,
Flash a proper complete stock firmware via ODIN. Firmware for R970TYUFNK1 is R970TYUFNK1 (itself).

Would you happen to know where I can find a download for that? Also wouldn't flashing that delete everything?
Thanks for all the help!

SamMobile, Samsung Updates, or via SamFirm app. I usually rely on SamFirm.
Edit: As long as Re-partition and NAND Erase All is unticked on Odin, it should be fine.
PS Note: You can install newer firmware over your current firmware via Odin, too.

It would be wise to backup and wipe data before flashing. Otherwise you might encounter problems.
And do not use kingoroot to root lollipop. It used to not work or cause problems. Use cf autoroot method, if your device is supported.

Problem is cf auto root trips knox.
If I flash R970TYUgoh2 would I keep knox at 0x0 and all of my apps? Then I can root with kingroot.

Yes, but backup is mandatory. About Kingroot, see again previous post.

Having knox triggered is just a bunch of crap from Samsung to scare you. Unless you actually use knox. Or if you are afraid from losing your warranty. Which is also crap, because, whilst reading the warranty file, I saw that it won't cover water damage, it won't cover a broken screen and a bunch of other stuff. The only thing it covers is actual hardware failure. And if the phone is new, that's pretty unlikely. Even if it does fail, Samsung has no way to see if knox has been triggered until they change your hardware and are able to boot up the phone. At that point they can't refuse to take it into warranty service anymore.

Wow, that warranty is a load of ****. Also the phone is over a year old so I'd doubt it's still under warranty anyway.
What would you recommend to make a backup? I don't have fast Internet at all (300 kbps down), so I think a local backup would be more efficient.
Thanks for all the help! Have a good Christmas!

OK I flashed 5.0.1 successfully, all my data carried over. Now I need to root. Do you know where I can download the cf autoroot files for jflteusc or sch-r970 on 5.0.1?
There is a cf auto root thread in the general section. Or you could simply google "cf auto root s4".
Make sure to read the thread.

cwm is outdated. Use twrp. And yes, you can install it via odin or other methods.

OK I have that installed now. I'm looking for some new roms and found that there are practically none for the sch-r970. Could I just use roms for the gt i9505 (jflte) or would this not work at all? I'm looking for a 6.0 rom.
JDCTeam AOSP has your device model on the support list. They have Lollipop and Marshmallow.
But you should be able to use other GT-I9505 roms too.

Under their downloads section they have 2 untagged files (doesn't say GSM or cmda) and one GSM (won't work). Will one of the untagged roms work?

Marshmallow roms have been split into gsm and cmda, due to changes in the radio. You have a cmda device.
The initial build of aosp marshmallow was for both cmda and gms devices. The newest build (the december 24th build) is split into two. Gsm version has been released but cmda version needs more work.
So you will have to download the 6th december build which was unified. Or the lollipop builds.
Lollipop builds have a different thread and a different link.
