I have played with several different ROMs recently (I am rooted). I was on Extreme Syndicate (older version) then updated to V4 since I didnt want the theme. I noticed I mostly have 3G and I normally had 4G before. I clean installed it to the V5, same thing. Now I am on the "Modded Stock Verizon 5.0 BOC4 Based Lollipop Rom" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/development/modded-boc4-deodexed-rom-t3099453) and I have the same issue. Can someone help me figure out what I am doing wrong or is it an issue with BOC4?

When I go to mobile networks and hit the "CMDA/LTE/UMTS", it signs onto 4G but I cannot place phone calls. The other two I can place calls but it only signs onto 3G. What gives? do I need to update the kernel or modem?

You can always try different modems. Try an older one.

I have a Samsung Fascinate from Verizon Wireless.
Up until two days ago, it used to work perfectly on Android Froyo Superclean 2.8.
I had that ROM for about a year and a half and never thought of updating my OS up until two days ago.
At first, I discovered that I could get Gingerbread for my phone (not a stock version though).
I looked on the internet and I ended up flashing C-Spire Wireless Gingerbread 2.3.6 by accident.
When I finally finished all of the updating on that, I tried to go on the internet but it was not functioning the way it used to.
Most of the time, my phone could not connect to the 3G network, and when it did, it was very slow and disconnected every minute or so.
So, I then flashed the stock version of Gingerbread 2.3.5 for Verizon, but when I finished doing that, I still found that my internet was extremely buggy.
I also tried to install some radios on my phone to see if that helped, but it did not.
Shortly after, I stalled Superclean3 milestone 2 but the internet issue was not solved.
After that, I installed TSM Resurrection 2.2. The internet problems were still there.
Then, I went and installed ICS. Internet was still buggy.
I then got Jelly Bean from Cyanomod. The internet was still the same.
Then I went back to the stock Gingerbread 2.3.5. My internet is still really annoyingly horrible and I don't know what to do.
Any solutions please?

Only thing I can think of is follow droid styles guide in the forums

To go back to stock you need to flash the the pit file to repatriation and put everything back in order. Found the forum in fascinate android development about going back to stock Verizon rom. I had a 3g issue when I first flashed AOKP b40. Going back to stock worked perfect to fix data. Then back to ics on AOKP. And if your gonna flash an ics rom make sure you flash THS build 2 first to lay the ground work for the next ics rom of your choice.

Maybe your radio got corrupted somehow? Try flashing a bunch of different ones to see if it helps... all that info is found in droidstyle's guide
edit: Oops sorry, somehow I skimmed over that part saying you already tried different radios. I agree with the above though, go back to stock via droidstyle's guide and see what happens...
I just stumbled across something that may help you... read this and try it out... some people have reported data issues being resolved after doing that update. I've never done it myself, but I think I'm going to start making it a habit
I'm not quite clear on whether you can use a newer radio on an older ROM. As far as I can tell, I should be able to, but I just want to make sure I'm not just misreading the various posts about radios. Most posts talk about downgrading to older radios but not many talk about upgrading to a newer one. I would like to try out LTE in my area and see how it goes but since the N4 is my daily driver, I don't want it out of commission too long because I tried something I shouldn't.
I'm not quite as familiar with flashing Radios. I'm quite comfortable flashing recoveries or new roms, but flashing radios is a new one for me. The exact question I have is - Can I flash one of the new "hybrid" radios from HERE (I'm not sure whether the .27/84 hybrid or .33/84 hybrid will work better for me so I plan to try both) and have it be alright on my current ROM? I'm currently running Paranoid Android 3.6, Android 4.2.2.
Also - is there a post that someone knows about that can give me some more detail about where Radios fit in with all the other "pieces" (ie Recovery, Kernel, Boot Loader, etc)? I'd like to learn more about it.
Thanks,
Zeustopher
yes, you can. ive been using the .27 hybrid radio since yesterday, and it works great on 4.2.2 and lte. and ive even seen better data speeds since. my lte topped off under 29mbps download before yesterday. after, i now top off just under 33mbps download

I'm in an area where I don't have 4g, and since flashing my ROMs, I often just don't have 3g. Like I can make calls and send texts but I have no 3g whatsoever.
Every once in a while, through a restart I can get it, but about 90% of the time I don't have it.
Im running CyanogenMod 10.2, and I've attempted flashing to sacs custom ROM with no luck. Its driving me crazy, any help?

Don't know what modem/baseband you're on.
Try MF9 modem.
Then update PRL and Profile

It looks like my baseband version is L720VPUAMF9, which I'm assuming is the MF9 modem you were talking about.
I'm looking at the prl and profile, and I'm not 100% sure how to update it on the s4.

You've got the MF9 modem that's good.
Check this out. Update both PRL and Profile.
So I flashed my only touchwiz rom (Sacs Custom Rom) and I updated the profile + PRL, as well as went into the dialer and pressed ##72786# which basically, I think did the same thing.
I backed up an AOSP Illusion Mod which I customized. If I flash the back up, will my PRL / profile remain the same? Or is that something in with the network settings?
Also interestingly enough, I have 3g once I booted the Sacs Custom Rom. Last time that happened, I flashed the Illusion Mod and had 3g for a while.... then it never came back.
Any thoughts? I really want to figure this out, it's horrible not having data connection and paying for it. I really love my Illusion mod, it's fast and sleek.
Basically what happens is the phone works fine while on WiFi but as soon as I disable WiFi or leave the area, when the phone tries to connect to 3g it loses signal completely. It shows the H+ briefly, then shows grey bars and then shows an empty triangle for about 3 seconds. I was running the 4.4 ROM released by paranoid android a few weeks ago with no issues until today when calls were constantly droppiing while I was out.
I've since tried updating the radio, tried two different 4.4 roms, flashed back to 4.3 rom 3.99 paranoid Android rc2 including the boot loader and radio provided in the xda thread. Still no luck. So my question is...is there a magic fix? Or will I need to replace the antenna? Im going to try get a new sim tomorrow and try that but I don't see why that would be the issue?
Thanks

Lately people are complaining about the signal issues..Pa has been the common factor in all.. I would suggest/recommend you to flash psx v2 + franco + radio + bootloader.. If you have already updated to radio n bootloader, good. Best combo.. no problems.

PSX version 2 is the KitKat ROM. It's in the Original Development.
darkstar09, are you having problems with restarting your phone? Because I'm having this mobile signal bug as well + a massive reboot problem. I allready downgraded to 4.3 but the problem was still there ..
LS980 = Major Pain. I've rooted and flashed over 20 phones/tabs and I think it may be worst.
Thanks for any help !
I have bone stock Sprint 4.4.2 Kitkat ZVC LS980, then rooted and w/ TWRP 2.7.0.
I get bootloop after flashing CM11 or Slimkat and wiping.
I can get back to stock KK if I spend 5+ minutes mashing the buttons in different combos w/ different timing and USB inserted or not, and getting to recovery. Then I restore the stock backup I made.
I previously flashed many different ROMs and kernels OK.
All this recent grief was preceded by flashing the wrong KK modem, then trying to load Mahdi ROM, having CM installed at that point. That gave me bootloop.
From recovery I used dd to flash ZVC partitions. Recovery stopped working and I got fastboot. I tried using fastboot to flash all partitions, then I got Security Error.
I fixed Security Error by spending 3 hours messing with a Windows 7 PC again, using flashtool to flash ZV8 that worked before. (This time I wrote down steps, for next time, LOL.)
So ZV8 worked, and I OTA'd to ZVA. That worked and I OTA'd to ZVC.
That's when I used ioroot25r1 to root succesful. And LS980_AutoRec to flash TWRP 2.7.0.
I've never used this phone as a phone or had any dealings with Sprint; not sure about it's previous history, I bought it on EBay.
BB seems to be M8974A-AAAANAZM-2.0.20046, I presume automatically updated w/ OTAs before root and recovery flash.
I swear I must have spent at least 8 hours on this "adventure". And I'm a dev who's been doing low level Android for 3.5 years and low level Linux stuff since 1996 and built various CPU and computer projects starting in the late 1970's...
So what the heck am I missing here ?
Thanks for any help !
I don´t know if it could be helpful, but I use to flash my LG G2 D802 with a stock rom JB not KK, and I use too CWM not TWRP and I´ve never had a problem flashing.
I have Slimkat in my device, although I had CM11 and stock roms modified without any problem with them.
Anyway, good luck

Yeah, it should be easy enough to try CWM.
Some carrier variants, like my Sprint, often have issues the International models don't.

Flashing CWM didn't help.
What worked was LG Flashtooling back to ZV8, and rooting and recovery installing from there, as I did many months ago.
I dunno why. But I'm happy for now, until next bootloop at least.
Finally, great news

Only for a little while.
Flashed CM11. Good.
Flashed SlimROM. Good.
Flashed Mahdi and LS980 Patch. Good-ish for a while, then the kernel went crazy with audio devices disappearing.
Try to re-flash CM11. Bad.
Try to restore stock. Bad.
Grrr... Back to LG Flashtool ZV8. OTA to ZVA. Re-root.
Not sure about next step.
Time for me to learn about Loki I guess.

These days, all phones for CDMA networks are going to have more issues than those for GSM networks. Really best to go with a GSM network if possible. But Verizon's network definitely beats AT&T's (and especially T-Mo). Not worth the price, IMO, but I'd say only use Verizon if you're in an area that only Verizon works well. Sprint is useless.
It´s a pity hear that, I wish you the less possible problems with it, and a soon solution

This is a phone I bought only for testing of my FM apps. I think there's a place for a GSM SIM in it, but I still don't know and don't care too much right now.
EDIT: Hmmm, under System updates I've never been able to do "Update PRL", "Update profile" or "UICC Unlock" I think due to authentication issues. But I can "Update Firmware" and I think "Update LG Software".
I went with Sprint instead of D802 because they were cheap on EBay, as low as $200-250. Possibly a banned ESN (despite the EBay listing), but again that doesn't affect me.
But if I could do over, I might go for d802; as you say less troubles, and many more people have d802s than Sprint.
