[Q] HELP!!! - SIM Unlock Galaxy S4 - EE Problems - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
This is my first time posting in here and I'm only here because I'm absolutely desperate.
I left EE on 19th April to get a SIM Only deal with another company. I was told I needed to buy a sim unlock code but decided to have a look online first before committing to paying for it.
The same day I filled in the online form to request an unlock code, the confirmation email said it would take 7-10 days (note not working days) for the code to arrive. I received a text on the alternate number I provided saying that they needed to contact Samsung for the code which would take a bit longer - which is fine and from the info I found online I expected. 24th April my PAC Code goes through with the new company but still no code. This is fine because the weekend is coming up and I wouldn't need my phone anywhere that didn't have WiFi.
I get another text on 28th April saying the exact same thing as the text from the 24th. When I call EE on the 30th I am told that the code has already been emailed/text to me but they cannot resend the code (for some reason they don't keep a copy of any texts or emails they send) but I will have it within 72 hours (again note not working hours)
So I phone up 4 days later and ask where my code is, to which I'm told it was 72 working hours and 7-10 working days. Admittedly I got a bit angry on the phone (and did apologise to the poor girl I spoke to) and was passed to a manager who told me that she would contact whomever and raise an urgent "ticket" meaning I would get the code by 5pm the same day.
So I called at 5:30 and was told that I needed to wait another 72 hours not until 5pm and that I should not have been told 72 hours to start with, and that they will have to start the whole process again meaning I have to wait another 10 working days!!!
I need help now because I am absolutely sick to death of this ridiculous company! Their customer service just keep lying to get me off the phone and I have no way to keep in touch with my heavily pregnant wife when I'm not on the WiFi! I am away from her for a week from tomorrow and I have no confidence that EE will ever pull their finger out and fix this for me.
Does anyone on here know if there is anyway I can get flash a stock ROM for a non EE phone and go through the procedure to unlock my phone?
Any help would be much appreciated

You don't need to change ROMs so long as you are on a stock ROM. You will have to temporarily downgrade the modem however. We have an entire thread devoted to unlocking the S4, including instructions. They work so long as the modem is downgraded beforehand. After unlocking, restore your old modem.

possible new tmobile factory ROM?

well while fixing some other issues i had with my plan. i desided to have them transfer me to the tech dept to complain about my phone.
i asked about a possible new rom out to help with the searching issue i have had with my phone since i bought it. (good signal out side. walk into a parking garage. loss all signal. walk back out onto the middle of the road where it wa sgood before. and will search for 30 mins to get a signal.) had record of this since the 2nd day i owned it with them.
i asked about a rom. since another tech told me about it when i first called several months ago. i asked and asked. never got an answer. they said there going to send me a new phone! they said it was normal before. i asked how is it different? cause i have lots of programs on it. and i would rather not have to redo my whole phone again. unless its different in some way. they side steped every attempt to get info out of them.
im thinking they will send my a new phone with a different rom but do not want to admit it. so every doesnt call them hahaha
i geuss we will see when the new phone arrives in the mail.
I called tmobile today about a an issue I was having. Also, I asked several times about "push email" and actually had a tech that was willing to talk. I was told that by September, AKU2 will be released to Tmobile USA customers.
So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed....

Bad ESN? No, Then what is it?

So a few days ago, I got a Droid X through NoMoreRack.com (well, my girlfriend did, for me) for about 70 bucks, And Verizon rejected to activate it. Claiming that the device is Reported Lost/Stolen (AKA a Bad ESN). And when I told my gf, she got really pissed and wanted to return and exchange it, but then she'll get a device with a ACTUAL screwed up esn (youll see why its not Actiual) So to save stress. I went and emailed Motorola then I did a live chat with 3 different people, that is then when i am told to do a system update (2/3 times) 1st time after they said to do so, i left, the chat and realized that the System Uptades button was grey (i was on wifi and had my google account set up) then the second time i was told that the esn was fine, then the last time they said to call, But i have no time to. And now im stuck. Any help?

updating is not going to change the esn, and verizon is the only carrier that is going to care, the esn is blacklisted on their system. easy way to check the esn go here http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/nso/enterDeviceId.do
and find Enter your Device ID to check eligibility.

i337M Abrupt Signal Loss

Hi everyone,
So about five days ago I was in the middle of using my Galaxy S4 (I think I was playing a game or something) and all of the sudden my cellular signal dropped out completely—from 4 bars to zero with a little X in it. There it's remained ever since.
My first thought was that I ought to reboot the thing and see if that would solve anything. The answer was no.
My second thought was that maybe my contract was up (as that was due to happen this month), and rather than auto-renewing, they kicked me off. Weird, but possible. But that's not it: I phoned up my provider and they said that all systems are go, there are no outages, your account is active for a week still, and even past that contract expiry I'll just get bumped to month-to-month and never experience a blip in service. So that's not it.
So then I put my SIM in another unlocked phone, and lo-and-behold, it connects just fine. So clearly the problem is with my phone.
My i337M is running Liquid Smooth 2.9 and KToonSez' kernel. I decided to make a nandroid and flash back to stock ROM/kernel. Still I could not connect to the network.
I can only think of two potential problems. First, I unlocked the phone myself via FastGSM.com's tethered USB method. It was a Bell-locked phone, and I'm on Rogers. This was accomplished back in July, and since then, there haven't been any issues to speak of (i.e., the unlock worked flawlessly). I tried to see if those unlocks ever expire, and couldn't find any reason why they ought to. I personally don't think it's that, but I mention it out of interest in being thorough.
Second, I messed around with my phones NVData a few weeks back to enable the AWS network via this method. I didn't experience any signal problems after doing so. Again I mention this out of interests of being thorough. Could that have had something to do with it? I suppose I could try flashing back my original NVData, but honestly I don't see why that would suddenly kick in now since I did it weeks ago originally.
Any thoughts? This is really bizarre, and it sucks being without connection.
I was also thinking of flashing back to stock and going to a Bell shop to see what happens when I put a tester SIM in.
It sounds to me like it's hardware related. Don't see anything you've done that would have caused it. I'd flash back to stock and if it still persists I'd file a warranty claim.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
Hi, thanks for your reply.
An additional thought's occurred to me: I lost signal at or about the same day I setup Android Device Manager to allow for remote lock/wipe directly from Google. That couldn't possibly be responsible for signal loss, could it...?
Currently flashing back to stock, and I'll unroot/restore kernel/restore NVData and make it look factory, and see what the store says about it. Hopefully I don't have to pay for another unlock at some point.
Okay, this is very messed up. Nobody has any idea why my phone isn't getting signal. I can scan for networks and everything shows up, but in any case with any SIM it says "unable to connect to network". It doesn't matter what ROM I'm on. I flashed back to stock and updated to latest using KIES of all things, which found a firmware/modem/baseband update, and still no dice. I don't know what to do with this thing except take it to an unlocking store that might be able to figure something out for me, but it'll cost me. This is messed, I've never had to get someone else to look at my tech for me.
Okay, so the situation is that it most probably is a hardware failure related to the radio.
I am a Rogers customer who bought the phone from a guy from CraigsList who apparently got it from Bell. I went into Bell and explained the situation, and they scanned the IMEI and printed me out a proof of purchase of the guy's name and told me I should take that to the Bell service centre, and it doesn't matter if I'm not the guy. I also had them check to see if he reported the phone stolen; it turns out he did not—though it should be known that if he had done so, then that could have very well been the reason I wasn't getting signal from anyone, as all providers across Canada apparently share their blacklists with one another now (including the little guys like Wind/Mobilicity).
So now I am in the process of making it look like it's never ever been hacked before: I shall restore my NVData, unroot, and update everything using KIES, and then perform a factory data reset. I'm also on the hunt to figure out what the heck the "flash counter" is and whether or not I need to reset that, but perhaps since mine is the i337M Canadian variant, I don't need to worry about that. (Any advice on restoring my phone to factory condition would be welcome, thanks.)
Edit: Figured out TriangleAway and everything associated. I'm all stock now and ready to bring it back to the factory.
MAJOR UPDATE: PROBLEM IDENTIFIED
So I got my phone back from the factory today. They reported that everything is 100% a-ok on the hardware/software side of things. The radio IC is NOT blown as was suspected.
You know what they said? The problem is on the network. I have a story to tell that I think people should hear, as I've learned something very valuable today and people need to learn this lest they get conned themselves.
Today I phoned in Rogers again, armed with new information, to ask what's up. They ran the IMEI number, and this time... it's come up on the blacklist.
It wasn't there last week. In fact, it wasn't even there an hour ago. It actually only appeared there as the clock ticked past midnight Eastern time... as that is EXACTLY 90 days from when the phone was reported missing. It took them a long time to track down this information.
To reiterate, I did not steal the phone. I bought it from a guy on Craigslist who had it brand new in box with the screen-protector sticker still on the front of it. I checked it out, tried it, and unlocked it myself and have been using it since July without issue, until a week ago.
There is the trouble of, why now? Why only now does the IMEI come up blocked? What the senior rep at Rogers thinks happened was that the guy had it delivered to his house, didn't sign for it, kept it in box, reported it as "undelivered", and flipped it to me for cash. Insurance has meanwhile hooked him up with a new phone, and the factory kept my phone in the "we're looking for it" pile for the requisite 90 days, after which they officially publish its IMEI as "blacklisted". That would explain why it worked for a while but doesn't now; and this 90-day TO THE DAY period is the same for Rogers as it is for AT&T apparently (which is where the rep used to work for 10+ years).
I am in possession of stolen property. I've little hope of recuperating my losses. I've been advised to file a police report, and I think I will actually, given that I've got a receipt with the "anonymous" guy from Craigslist's name on it which I had printed out from Bell after they scanned the IMEI number for my factory warranty receipt. This phone will officially never work in Canada, as there is no way for it to be removed from the blacklist. I've been very unfortunate in this case, and it's a real shame.
People should take note: If buying a phone, ALWAYS do it in-store and have the IMEI number run first to check and see if it's on the blacklist. Next, have the phone transferred into your name so that the IMEI and you are officially linked, and the guy can't report his gear stolen or lost. That should suffice in most cases... except in the case of insurance fraud, which is my case, where there is a 90-day delay period in the IMEI number being added to the blacklist (which is why it didn't come up on the blacklist last week when I had the Bell rep run it in-store for me). Another point of interest is that in my case, I found it was possible to lose service BEFORE the number is on the blacklist—assuming the Bell guy didn't run the number wrong last week.
So f**k me. All I can do is try to hack the number, I guess, or find a way to spoof the IMEI.
Edit: Unf***ing believeable—I somehow reenabled data and texting by messing around with QPST. Calls still not happening, though.

Google Store Problems, need help

I pre-ordered the Nexus6P, on the day it was available for pre-order, and last week, the credit card I had, it had fraudulent activity, and when Google tried to charge my card prior to shipping it, it didn't go through, so I called to get the payment switched to another card, but they said they couldn't do that. And told me that I would have to cancel and reorder, but I told them I didn't want to lose my spot in the queue, and also lose my 50 dollar google play credit for preordering, because the item is out of stock now and I wont' be able to order it and get the 50 dollar credit.
The stupid thing is, my phone case, I was able to change that payment method online and that has shipped, so I'm stuck with a phone case and no phone.
On friday, When i called, they said they would call me back after they discussed what their options were with their specialists, and I never received a call back. I have emailed support twice, and haven't received a reply to either email.
Google's customer service is terrible, and was hoping somebody could offer me advice on what I could do to get this situation taken care of.
Did you get the original card reissued with a new card number or was the original card momentarily suspended for possible fraudulent activity? If the card number was cancelled its entirely reasonable of Google to cancel the order as the original payment type is no longer valid. If the card was just momentarily suspended and the card number is still the same and now active why don't you just ask the to reattempt the authorization.
You may not like what happening, but if I cancel my card/account for fraud I absolutely expect all the merchants using that account to halt service/shipments of anything tied to that card. To do otherwise would be irresponsible of the merchant.
When in doubt, keep calling till you get someone who does what you want. If you're adamant about them charging a new payment type on the same order just keep calling and asking. Maybe you'll eventually get someone who won't follow the instructions...
A new card number was issued, however, google emailed me and said the order is on hold and to update the payment method to a new card, with a link, and when I go to the link it wouldn't allow me to update the payment method, it allowed me to do it with my phone case, but not the phone. I will keep calling until somebody will resolve my situation.,

Good luck, let us know how it goes.
Were you able to solve the credit card problem with Google?
Were you able to solve the credit card issue with Google?
I am stuck in the same situation as you, as a couple of weeks ago the credit card that I used to place my Nexus 6P preorder was compromised and my credit card company had to cancel it and issue me a new one. I haven't gotten the e-mail from Google stating that they could not process my card, but trying to be proactive and solve the problem before it happens, I contacted Google several time (twice by chat, once on the phone) to try to provide them the new credit card to be used but I simply have been told that there is no way of changing it until I get the e-mail from Google stating that they can't charge my now-defunct card as the system is completely automated and doesn't allow for any human intervention at Google's side. I asked them what could I do if I get stuck in the same situation you are describing, where after getting the e-mail from Google stating that my card could not be charge no way would be provided to change the card to be used to pay for the phone and I have gotten different answers ranging from "well talk to us and we'll figure it out" to "you will need to cancel your order and place a new one". this last one specially sucks since it would place me at the end of the line and my current cell phone (An HTC One M7) is on its dying legs (it loses cellular connection and Wi-Fi connection about 3/4 of the day).
That is why I am bugging you asking you if you got this issue fixed with Google, and if so, what did you do to fix it, as I am nearing the time where I'll need to fix it (My order was supposed to be shipped by Oct. 30 but still hasn't been shipped or charged).
Thanks !
Aaaaand, I am now in the same state as you were, with Google not being able to change my payment method to my new credit card. I received the e-mail from Google asking me to change my credit card, followed the link on it asking to change the payment method for the order to the new card and the order remained on hold. Went to payments.google.com and tried doing the same and the order remained on hold. Talked to Google support and Wallet Support and they both just give me vague answers telling me to wait 24 to 48 hours. If I ask if I simply can talk to a human being and get the payment method changed I am being a spiel stating that this cannot be done because "Google values their users' privacy and security". Man, this is not fun. Google, if you guys are reading this, you need to make the resolution of problems like this a lot easier. These are far too many hoops to make your customers to go through, specially after already keeping them waiting endlessly because their orders were already delayed.

Lgsimunlock.com use with extreme caution

I bought a LS997 (Sprint) v20 that was supposed to be unlocked, it was not. I saw on these forums people posting SIM unlock success with LGSIMUNLOCK.COM so I figured it was worth a try since 13 dollars wasn't much. After 13 hours they sent me an email saying my model was "super encrypted" version of the phone and they would need an additional 13 from me in order to bribe the carrier, I guess. I obliged and provided the extra money. About 18 hours into the order they sent me an 8 digit code and an apk to download that was labeled Network Unlock. I followed their instructions to a T at least 20 times with no luck and emailed back saying nothing was changing. They assured me they have a 100% success rate and that it must be my fault for having a custom ROM, which I don't by any means because it was an OTA update for one, and for two my second screen still worked... So I was unhappy after a few emails back and forth they decided they would send in for a new Unlock Code, while in the mean time k started doing research to find out that Sprints codes usually consist of 6 letters and not 8 nor do they require random unlock .apks. At that point I started trouble shooting the apk they sent me, I uninstalled and reinstalled about a few times and tried 00000000 on the network, and the app reacted exactly the same way saying my device was "Permanently Unlocked", interesting.... So then I took the phone off of wifi with no network attachment and tried a 0000 four digit random unlock code and the app still acted like it was connecting the network which was impossible since I had no connection and STILL tried to get me to believe that my phone had been permenantley unlocked. At this point I'm ready to call this website a scam and it's been a week since I returned the phone and requested a full refund and they are still telling me to remain patient that when Sprint is done updating their network or website they well return a working code for me that I don't even need anymore. Do not use this website unless you have 15-30 dollars you are ready to part with for no reason..
Gentlemens, keep in mind, lgsimunlock - scammers!
for $ 13 undertook to unlock the H-830 (unlock app) with clean imei-esn, as a result, after an "unsuccessful attempt",
on the demand for a refund of money, it is written that they sent the request to the operator. Already passed more than 35 days! the result is a loss of money.
Be careful.
lgsimunlock.com fraudulent website
Same situation, Be patient! Don't order, just will get 8 digit number that works only with their "app" to get a permanent unlock. However after you restart the phone it is still locked. The only way is to open a dispute on PayPal and nearly 50% of success that you will get your money back.
