What I am looking for is a simple auto key lock, I am not the only one!
S2U2 I have tried and found to be laggy and unstable, essentially it is overkill, as are most auto key lock programs. I want something simple!
When pressing and holding the end key the keypad locks, all i want is a program to do this automatically after a set time delay, without any fancy tricks or graphics - surely this isn't too much to ask?
I am aware that the power button can put the phone to sleep and disable the keys/screen BUT they do not stay disabled if the phone wakes up (when getting a call/message etc.). Only the key lock does this.
As an alternative, does anyone know how to call the key lock software, where is it located in the windows folder? I can try and write something to do this?
I guess you don't want the password to be activated?
If you do want the password then you can easily do this via
Settings--Personal--Lock
and just specify the time before auto-lock happens
Here are a couple of aps that might help:-
LockWithPassword -I have this little app mapped to a shortcut on my today ...so I can instantly lock when needed ... thanks to slow23 right here at XDA
LockAndOff -does what it says on the tin ...again can be set up as a shortcut, and this one locks keys & turns the screen off (with a single click on the shortcut) but does not invoke the password
Got it from here:- link
Thanks jcsxda, LockAndOff is pretty close to what i want, now if it could be set to run after a short period of activity, or on device sleep/wakeup then it would be perfect
Im looking for the same thing.
A simple auto lock just like any other phone...
S2U2 is overkill and can miss up someother app.
it is the same as the device lock today shorcut?
sorry, my phone is in my car and im too lazy
VJDeviceLock can be used to automatically lock your phone when you switch it off (actually, when you switch it on but it amounts to the same thing).
You can assign any app to launch on power on, by using the events management functions built into the OS. Eg Memory Maid will let you run apps on power on etc.
V
Thanks Vijay for the great info. shutil.dll is responsible for the device lock on windows mobile when you press the today plugin for locking.
Do you know a command to use this DLL (to put in Memory Maid) ?
Is there a rundll32.exe like on desktops or something
VJ you are a star!
Exactly what I've been looking for. A little fiddly to setup, but shouldn't be a problem for anyone unless they are a total newbie!
Now it's setup it is perfect.
Thank you very much, donation on the way!
@jrg1967
Many thanks for the donation! For various personal reasons, I went cold turkey off XDA Devs for about a year, but I'm really glad to be slowly getting back into it. It's amazing how strong this community is, internationally!
@el_lo:
Although there is an API for enabling the lock, when I tried to implement it when WM5 first came out, for VJDeviceLock, it wasn't well documented, so VJDeviceLock does something else that I can't remember now to enable the lock.
I don't believe that there is a rundll32 type app on Windows Mobile. It wouldn't be hard to make one, but then you'd still be running an external app!
I believe that VJKeyPress can also be used to enable the keylock, and there are other 3rd party apps.
HTC may well have built in some function to enable the lock through ROM based software, but for me, VJDeviceLock serves me well.
V
@VJ, you have the makings of a commercial piece of software there- it is very hard to find a simple program to do this, as the poll bias shows. You just need a user friendly settings program to deal with the command lines and make it easy to use. I am sure it would appeal across the WM community...
yeh would be great for the phone to autolock after a set period of time like other phones. ok the screen turns off after 30seconds but it doesnt lock the keys. seems strange why this feature isnt already on the phone...
Ok, I'll put this out there:
If one was developing a (possibly commercial, but cheap) auto lock app, what features would it need?
VJDeviceLock is a very old app now, but it works fine and it still surprises me that autolocking on power off is not a standard feature, so I always install it. I understand that there is a registry entry on the newer non X1 HTCs that does something similar, but anyway:
What features would you need? First, auto locking after a fixed time.
What else?
In the interest of keeping it simple, don't ask for a slide to unlock replacement, as S2U is already fabulous, if that's your thing.
Also note that if you're interested, I can entirely replace the native unlock screen with a different interface, although again, I don't propose replacing S2U. I mean something more like a HUGE unlock button.
Give me ideas.
I can do gesture based unlocks, accelerometer based locking and unlocking (assuming I can do this on the X1, I don't have one, so someone feel free to give me one and I'll come and give your package a fondle).
Note that I'm busy on other stuff, so anyone else can code this, but for simple-ish features I'm happy to start working on it. Bigger stuff will take time.
It would probably be free because I can't deal with the hassle of getting rich

X1 is like a mini comp....anyone can mess around with it if u leave it unlocked
Hi VJ,
It's still working great! Don't make this over complicated, as you can see from the poll people want a simple solution. Now I have it setup it's working just as needed, the standard unlock screen is fine, but the setup was a pain! So, IMHO all that is required is a simple front-end allowing to choose the options, rather than having to enter a command line. More complicated solutions to this issue are already available, so keep it simple.
Options for keylock/password lock at sleep and/or after a set time interval is probably all that is required.
BTW, X1 does NOT have accelerometer.
just having the regular keylock automatically come on after x amount of seconds would do me. no fancy screensavers, passwords or swiping the screen or anything like that. i noticed on diamond tweak there was an option for the keylock to come on when the standby kicked in and the screen goes off, doesnt work on the x1 though but that feature would be ideal.

you can make it very simple.assign lock software to power off button.when you display is off you phone ll be locked.this ll be lovely.thank you
Hi Vijay,
I was also trying to develop a simple autolock program. Because I couldn't find any locking program that can prevent X1BC from capturing the keys. What I need is something that kills X1BC just before locking, and re-launches it after unlocking. Currently, I am able to lock the device and kill X1BC when the display dimms, but detecting the unlock is a problem. Do you have any idea how I can detect the unlock? (My program is using the lock mechanism of QuickMenu and that is using the built-in lock).
Cheers
guys,
Recently got the Note 2, and unlike the note 1, this one has a battery life that lasts forever it seems.
Now, yesterday evening I was doing something and I held my phone a bit awkward so my fingers were all over the place.
I accidentally must have set some settings because suddenly there was this pull down tab hanging at the edge of the screen. If I pull it down it shows a kind of scrollable quick access bar/tray for basic apps. This tray can be moved around on the home page just like apps, by long pressing. It can only be moved to one of the sides, and it automatically minimises to a pull down tab only.
It has one edit button, but all it does is open up a larger field to add more apps (except I have no idea how to add additional apps to that).
I wonder how to disable this feature as I am concerned it will drain battery power. Also it would be good to know for future events where I might decide I do want to use it.
Any ideas what that might be? I attached a screenshot of the feature.
Hold the back button, bottom right to acrivate/deactivate.
It is the muli-window function. You use that bar to drag apps that support multi window to the screen so you can use both of them at once. Hold the back button to activate/deactivate this feature. If I helped you, don't forget to hit the Thanks button!

Thanks for the quick reply guys!
It makes me smile every time some writes something along the lines you wrote You are not the first to ask and probably wont be the last. It's quite funny how we buy these super powerful devices and the instructions manual doesn't tell you much more than how to put in the battery. Thank [email protected]#k for the XDA and YouTube.

they are times when I don't want note to zoom in because my palm registered before my s-pen did. It's only and I can't believe this wasn't a default option on ALL S-PEN. The s-pen gives unparalled accuracy so I like to use it non-zoom and write small.
There's an option to enable 'palm check.' At least on my Note 2, which I assume is similar. Waiting on my N8000.

Yeah, I agree. I think I will just buy a glove though that covers my palm. I still want the ability to zoom, but I Just don't want it happening when I'm trying to lay down lines for art.

I'm not quite sure what you're meaning by palm check, there is a function for "SPen only" but that one only disables the one finger touch that is for drawing etc. Disable the multitouch for zooming and pan however, isn't possible in SNote at this point.

Anyone having problem with SNote, please contact Samsung and tell them about it and demand a solution. Hopefully with enough people complaining, Samsung will realize that the new SNote isn't any good and change it. Preferably allow us to downgrade SNote to the precious, working version.

I agree. Samsung keep developing the device and they have not look into their most important application. Are they even serious with their consumer? Sigh..
agree! I found it really annoying everytime I use it to take notes. There should be a lock zoom mode in the s note setting.
I agree that S-note could have a few features like locked zoom and hide toolbar... those would be great. I like the new snote though. I dont think you guys should call Samsung to complain, just suggest. Maybe someone on xda can release a downgrade apk?

Or just a two finger zoom that actually worked and not recognized the hand, just like the old version. Just of curiosity, what do you like better with the new one? Do you maybe have a different version of the new SNote that actually works?
That's what I'm hoping as well but there are a couple of different threads around an so far nothing has really come out of them.

I have the snote that came with jb 4.1.2 US n8013. The UI feels alot faster, the spen button to switch to eraser is an awesome feature. It also switches from formula match to eraser and then Back to formula match which is very good since id always make the mistake of going to pen and losing my formula. I cant think of anythinf else atm but i can tell you that apart from the zoom, i havent had major issues with it.

Well that explains it, I run the 4.1.1 version of Android and that comes with a different version of SNote than yours and the 4.1.1 version just doesn't work properly. I really hope that we get the 4.1.2 version of SNote as well since it seems to work much better than our.

Simple trick to Lock the zoom
Hi,
When I'm writing using S Note, I lock the zoom by using my other hand's 3 fingers to touch the screen.
when you write the usual way, you will notice that it will not have any annoying zoom anymore.
hope it works for everyone too.

So if you're right handed. You use your left hand's 3 fingers and hold the screen while write with your right hand? That sounds like a pain. When I take notes I just make sure the spen is sensed before I put my palm down and no zoom. Takes some getting use to or make it a habit.

I discover how to dont zoom with hand on display
When you want to write with hand on display, you must first do this: put your thumb to the corner and THEN you must start write and put your palm on display in one time! since that your moves of hand display doesnt recognize and doesnt zoom, you can go to another list but you must have your thumb on display all the time or do it again (put hand and write in one time). Its not 100% but usually works and have thumb in corner isnt so annoying. . .
It requires root, but I added 'Disable finger input' action to my spen control app. It disables all finger touch (and capacitive buttons on Note 1 and 2) until you execute this action again or turn screen off. I implemented this after I got tired of accidental zooming on Note 10 and hitting capacitive back or menu on Note 1. My drawing experience is completely different now. Needless to say, S Pen is fully working in this mode and it disable finger input in all apps, not just S Note.
Do you think its worth making a separate application just for this? It would still require root .

That would be a blessing. I purchased your Gesture Control app and is really helpfull to hide the Nav bar and prevent the annoying Notification bar from showing every time I'm writting within SNote. Maybe you could make a setting within your app to block any hand touch within the S Note app. The only issue I have is that I have to add S Note to blacklist to prevent gesture control from executing accidentaly within S Note. I haven't got the Spen app yet. Do you think the S Pen gesture app would add a convenient way to go back to home screen without having to turn the screen on and off, in order get the Nav bar back?
I really recommend Gesture Control and S Pen Control. Those are one the top 5 five apps we must have for our Galaxy Note 10.1
Samsung screwed up big time with S Note hand detection.

I have the US version of the N8013 too. I had mine just rooted before the update, i did the 4.1.2 update and haven't found a way to configure the S Pen button to work as an eraser within the S Note app. I even spent $40 to buy the S Pen with eraser so I wouldn't have to click back and forth between eraser and writting mode from the top bar. Pardon me if I've being a Dumb Ass!!! If a press twice the button it goes into brush mode, if press it once thereafter, it goes to marker mode, and after that if I press the button once, it switches back and forth between brush and Marker mode, but never goes back to regular pencil mode unless I reach the top bar and change it back that way. I checked for pen settings under S Note settings and general settings, and I just can't find anything to configure the S Pen button to perform a particular action.
I didn't do a factory reset after the update. Do you think this could be the reason, and maybe I'm just having bugs due to it?
Maybe I have do a complete factory restore, any suggestion on Stock base rom with full S Note functionality?

You can download spen control (trial) from thread in my signature and it has 'disable finger input' action. I don't want to expand on other features as this is not the right thread, but spen app allows you to execute all actions similar way to gesture control, just gestures are executed with spen. I'm just wondering if it is worth making root app that just does this one action - disable/enable finger input.

I'm having the same issue (same version tablet) too.... quite annoying that you cannot find configuration for the S pen in it's most used app. It would be great if I could create a toggle between eraser and pencil/pen mode but nothing seems to do that.

I'm have slight buyers remorse, but I have a few more days till I can't return it for a full refund. I hoping to find out if any of the issue I have with the Note 3 or more accurately touchwiz will be able to be solved. I'm coming from a history of running customs ROMS on my galaxy S1 and galaxy S2, most of the time cyaogenmod. Lucky I find touchwiz has improved but here are my over all gripes:
Can't change the vibration pattern for notifications, most importantly text messages and emails. You can create customs patterns but they are only for calls. This is my biggest problem right now. And the fact that clearing a message from the notification bar doesn't mark it as read is annoying.
I would love on screen buttons, with this much screen restate it's a great phone for on screen buttons, I also find getting low enough to press the capacitive buttons with my thumb and still holding the phone a bit difficult and I think I would have no trouble if there was on screen buttons. - SoftKey Enabler, requires root- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fatedevgroup.softkeyenabler&feature=search_result
Home buttons wakes the phone - Fixable by mod or wanam http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2477150
Double home press open magazine - Settings in Magazine, gesture disable can be done by freezing magazine in titanium
Replace S Voice with google voice. - Freeze with titanium then use double tap to get to google voice
Remove all toggles from notification area, have all the toggles in the toggle pane
Remove the persitant icons from the task bar (blocking mode, smart stay, NFC)
All logs in phone log - fixable with app - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.samsung.log.converter.ics
I really got used and liked the pop up/quick message window option that cyaogenmod had. I would like that along with the removal of chat bubbles.
I also liked black/Holo design, I sure this can and will come some how. Also we'll see how kitkat ends up looking...
How likely is it that my gripes with touchwiz can be fixed, yet still stay on touchwiz framework due to not wanting to lose functionality? I am aware it will require root and most likely a custom ROM, but if I was able to start out with just some modifications to stock rom, that might be a good start. I might find out but 1-4 are my biggest complaints. I love the note 3's hardware, but I'm hoping the roms/touchwiz won't push me toward the nexus 5....
One additional question, all these model numbers are confusing as hell. I have the N900W8, will that hinder my ability to use custom roms? Is it an equivalent to another model number? (X-Note is the only roms I've seen so far the explicitly says its compatible with the 900W8)

If you open Magazine and hit menu, then choose Settings, you can turn the double home press off from in there.
The swipe from the bottom gesture can't be disabled short of doing something like freezing Magazine with Titanium Backup.

A fwlew of these things are easily fixed with xposed wanam module. You need to be rooted though. As for Google voice, freeze svoice (maybe you can just clear defaults, but I froze it) then when you double tap home, you'll be given options in what you want that to do.

Today I went with a friend of mine and bought him a brand new LG G3, I played with the phone a bit, and I really liked the "double tap" feature where you can lock or wake the phone up without having to press the power button every time you wish to unlock the phone.
My question is, is it possible to implement this setting in the Note 4? (N910C)
and if it is developed or under development, can anyone suggest a kernel/mod/rom that has that feature...
Thanks guys.
it's just a simple question and I'm new here :/
can't anyone suggest something?
I would be appreciate it.
Nope and nope for both of your questions.

hi,
just a quick point. /and question ?
Why do i want to double tap to wake etc...? If i have some other good options?
i flip open my S view case, to wake my device (without touching my screen etc) To put my phone to sleep i can either also double tap screen (Screen off app on Play market) or slide my finger (along top right side)(GMD app.. need root) on screen.. same effect?
To me its just as cool !
(Just some other cool methods!)
Good luck

Well, yeah I know these options and about those apps, all of these apps have one thing, they can lock the screen and not wake it up.
Its not that I will need this feature in anyway.. was just asking if it's possible to implement it through the kernel or a rom, or if its a hardware sensor thing..
because I was wondering, how would a phone wake up from an "OFF" screen with tapping on it, if there wan't any sensor to detect it..
and I wanted to see how would that work on a phone that never had that feature before such as samsung.
Thanks for your answer.
PM: I don't have a samsung phone, my question was for educational purpose as I'm doing electrical engineering.
Yes, it's totally possible, and has been added to many custom ROMs for many different devices.
Actually, to be more accurate, it's added to the kernel. So basically just look at all the custom kernels that are available for you, and see if any have that feature. If not, you could always ask a kernel developer nicely, or offer to donate a little if they'd add it for you..
