I miss the Samsung Stock Music Player, but my phone can't seem to install it. After installing AllianceRom v5.0, I didn't install any of the samsung or google apps, cause I was just going to install certain apps afterwards. However, I found that I can't install the music player no matter what. I've downloaded different versions (I mainly want the KitKat one because of the dark background), but every time I try install it, it says, "App not installed". I've looked for solutions and I can't find anything. I've tried putting it in the system folder and installing it there but still nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just leave it in the /system/app folder and set its permissions identical to the other apk files in the folder which should be rw-r--r-- and reboot, you dont install system apps the normal way that you are trying tou have to put them in the system apps folder.

Quick question though, I installed the kitkat version, but yet...my music player is still white and bright? Would you happen to know how to solve this? I'm afraid to install any other versions of the music player because I don't want to brick my phone. For example, I found a "dark s5 music player" that is for the S4 mini, and I don't know if it'll work. But it comes in a zip folder, and in it, it has 2 folders:
system
META-INF
In the system folder it has: 5 folders named: framework, priv-app, lib, etc, and app (in the app folder is the SamsungMusic_20.apk)
and in the META-INF folder: MANIFEST.MF, CERT.SF, CERT.RSA, and a com folder.
Now I don't know if just installing the SamsungMusic_20.apk will be enough to have the dark background or if I have to install the whole thing with the folders? (Which I don't know how...I think I'd have to go to philz-recovery and install the zip from there once I delete the current Samsung Music player?)
Thanks for the help again mate!

That is indeed a flashable zip. I'd check throughout the entire zip and see what files its adding, if its messibg with anything in framwwork or etc i'd maybe stay away from it seeing as its fron another device, even if its not theres still no guarantee it'll work since it is for the s4. I personally never used the stock music player so i cant be of too much help, it's probably best at this point for someone else to look at this.

Ah I see How do I know when it's flashable or not? When it has more files than just the basic apk? And well it does has a framework folder and an etc folder so I'll stay away from it like you say. I usually ask a lot of questions, but usually I get no reply on this forum lol :/ But thanks so much for the help

No no look inside those folders, they could have been included but unused. Ususally its made quite obvious its flashable wherever you download it from, of it doesnt say though in the com folser if you go in and just open the meta-inf folder and keep opening the folder, com/google/android and you should see an updater-script and updater-binary file, those are scripts so that it knows what to do with the files provided in the zip.

For those of us with a locked bootloader who can't install CWM or TWRP, how do we install zip files? Such as a theme for a deodex TW ROM?
I've done some googling but everything I find just says "install CWM". ugh
Looks like some devs in the past have been able to modify the 3E recovery to remove the signature verification check. But I don't think we have that yet.
There is a modified 3E recovery in this thread below with instructions on how to install. But it's for a different phone and might kill ours. I dunno.

There is a huge amount of files in the extracted zip. Not really sure what all needs to be copied over. I did manually replace the systemui and it changed a few things. But I'm definitely missing quite a bit of the theme still. I'll keep playing with it for a bit longer I guess.
Edit: I think I'm starting to figure it out. There are a ton of res folders in the theme and if I open the stock APK's and copy the res contents from the theme over to the existing res folders, that might do it.
But it's time to eat dinner now.

CWM flashables are nothing more than batch files or macros of sorts. Just manually follow along with whatever the updater-script is doing.

For themes you can just open the zip file in Windows and locate the internal files. Then use those to replace the same files that are on the phone.
But the Google Play store has apps that will flash zips without needing recovery or a reboot. I don't know the names but if you Google you'll find it.

You need to use a Root Explorer type app. There are 2 files in system/media that need to be replaced with the 2 boot animation files you want to use. The 2 files are: bootsamsungloop.qmg and bootsamsung.qmg.

I assume you meant "ROM Toolbox" because I don't see "ROM Toolkit" in the market. ROM Toolbox has dozens of bootanimations to choose from. If you see one you like, you should be able to install it within ROM Toolbox. It has been a while since I used it to change bootanis, but I think it was a pretty simple and self-explanatory process. If you want to change bootanis manually, you have to go to
/system/media and swap these files:
bootsamsung.qmg
bootsamsungloop.qmg
bootsamsungmini.qmg
bootsamsungminiloop.qmg
And set permissions to rw-r--r--

The boot animations in ROM Toolbox are in the bootanimation.zip format that need to go in either /system/media or /data/local folder. Unfortunately, with Samsung Touchwiz, the required format is the qmg format.
I'm not 100% sure how it is now, but it used to be that the kernel needed to support the bootanimation.zip format in order to be used (or a deeper system/framework support) Most AOSP based ROM/kernels have this support by default but TW doesn't allow this to work.
There's a thread in the theming section that has several of these files to use, but aren't of the greatest quality, IMO.
I used the international bootanimation files from this thread

No idea about the app you name as I've never used ROM tool box lite. But there are a lot of other Google Play apps that will change your boot animation. Or it's easy to do with a root file browser.
These are the boot animation and shutdown animation files. You can find new ones on XDA or with a Google search. Confirm that the new files have 0644 permissions after you move them to your S5 directory.
/system/media/bootsamsung.qmg
/system/media/bootsamsungloop.qmg
/system/media/audio/ui/poweron.ogg
/system/media/shutdown.qmg
/system/media/audio/ui/shutdown.ogg

If you mean bootanimation.zip, that format is not used on the S5 unless you've modified the relevant system files to recognize it.

You can read the descriptions of the Play store apps and see if any of them say that they will work with Samsung qmg animations. The bootanimation apps that I have seen only support the bootanimation.zip format which is used on other phone models.
Some of the boot animations can modify your phone's kernel to use bootanimation.zip rather than Samsung qmg files, but a custom kernel will trip your Knox flag if that matters to you. That's mainly a concern in the US where Samsung will invalidate warranties because you modified your kernel. A lot of carriers don't care about Knox and ostensibly Samsung can't deny a warranty in the EU. But if your phone is in warranty, you should look into that issue first.
There are many apps. This one looks like it should work, including changing your kernel for you. I have not used the app personally, I just read the app description.

The above post suggests that you are using a custom ROM. You didn't make that point clear, I've never heard of "moar" and you didn't mention that it was a custom ROM. A stock S5 does not use bootanimation.zip, but according to the post above, your ROM has already been modified to use bootanimation.zip files. So you can try that.
It also means that you aren't posting in the ideal forum. You'd be better served posting in your custom ROM support thread or even the Verizon S5 forum.

If you use FX File Explorer and the root add on it will set the permissions for you on your apps. Other files like initd files and such need the permissions manually elevated but for apps like these it's automatic. Don't forget to reboot after copying the files over.

so i think i figured out part of the problem. I didnt use the stock rom to pull them from, it was the syndicate rom ( i apparently dont know how to read when i click things). I have the G900VVRU1ANHA_G900VVZW1ANHA_VZW.zip which contains a .tar.md5 inside. Without flashing this, using odin, to my S5 how can i access the system files to pull the apk and odex? i tried one of the guides in a thread to open the tar.md5 as a .img.ext4 and then mounting the image using DiskInternals Linux Reader but it could not get the file to open after mounting it. Now im REALLY lost as to what i should do, and im just fingers crossed that replacing those 2 files is going to enable my NFC again. (im assuming so since its all that i touched, but my knowledge in this department is limited)
thanks again for all the help, i usually just search for days for answers but with this im coming up blank!
Okay, so i downloaded the /apps/ zip from this thread and copied them from my pc to my phone. Using ES File Explorer i moved them to the /system/app/ folder. They originally had rwx rwx r permissions after the move, i changed that to rw r r and rebooted. Post reboot, attempted to enable nfc through the quick menu to no avail, going into the setting and turning it on the slider turns to green but the NFC icon does not show in the notification panel, I cant scan any NFC tags, and after exiting settings and going back into them the NFC setting has reset itself to off every time. I am now at a complete loss of what to try next.
just a ps: when running syndicate rom in slot 1 (safestrap) i was able to get NFC turned on and working just fine.

Hey, folks!!
Most of us moved to Lollipop and keep seeing many bugs and some of the Apps missing like for eg. Gallery.
Searches end me with Gallery Apps which weren't fully working. Desperated and frustrated me, finally did find one working app and thought of sharing it with others who would really be interested.
You can flash the App via Custom Recovery or can do it manually by moving the desired folder using a file manager, like Total Commander (this is what am using). Many are available based on your interest. Remember to extract the zip and move the folders to another location and then place in the respective places.
Editing Images is possible with this App if you correctly place the lib file at /system/lib
I myself have tried only the KK Gallery on N4 & N5 which is working flawlessly
http://nexus5.wonderhowto.com/how-to/get-back-gallery-app-any-nexus-device-running-lollipop-0158858/
PS: If this is outta XDA Rules then Mods can remove the thread.
Folks, am just sharing so everyone can make use of what is required.
I want to use the motorola gallery. It looks nice. But what lib file should I place in /system/lib? It isn't in the flashable zip...

So I tried the flashablr zip, but after installinh nothing changed? No gallery app popped up. I looked in the /system/app/ folder and I found the .apk l. Do you know how I can fix this?

Yes I am on stock 5.0.1. Rooted it and installed TWRP. Tried that zip and several others but none of them worked. Also created a flashable zip myself. But that didnt work either...
By flashing it, the app comes in the /system/app folder but doen't appaer in the app drawer and trying to copy it manually ends up in an error (see attachments).
I guess I will be re-flashing factory images and see if it works after that.

Dude, why don't you try installing it? I tried the KK Gallery as such (open & install) and it works well
