[Q] Problem connecting a HDD to N910C - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Please, anyone knows if it is possible to connect a hard disk drive (1 TB, Toshiba) to N910C without an external power source?
That was possible in Note 3 (N9005). But with the N910C have made several attempts and the hard disk turns on and off intermittently and the connection is lost. It is possible to run this with some ROM or kernel? Or there is a problem of low power delivered to the micro usb port?
Thank you very much in avance!

I have a toshiba 1gb hdd, it uses usb 3.0, the note 3 has it too, the note 4 does not, that may be the reason, but, I tried to use the hdd with my old note 3, it powered it ok, but could not read or write

firstly , Why you want to connect an external HDD to Note 4 ?? , this is a phone , not a PC , in addition to this , by trying to connect an external HDD , without an external power source , may probably damage the , note 4 external usb output , or source , even if you connect an external HDD with a external power source , it will not accessable , unless you format the HDD with a FAT32 or exFAT , because , as i know , (some boady correct me if i am wrong) NTFS doesnt supported by android , also Note 3 may be full compitable with an external HDD without an external power source, because of the benefits of usb 3.0 , but for Note 4 , it will never compitable without connecting an external power source

if not then, i am sure my device is defective of something....
How were they formatted? At those sizes, I'm going to guess they were formatted to NTFS which Android cannot read natively. There is, however, a thread in the Development section which includes a driver to enable NTFS support on the A500.

Okey... So now i have tried at least 6 different hdd and all failed...
I start to think ut is my hardware or rom problem?
Any solution ?
When i first connected a hdd i also thought it didn't work. When i looked at mnt/usb_storage.........no filelist. But when i got a cup of coffee and looked again the filelist was there. Apparantly the Acer needs a time to scan the HDD which can be long when it is large. So l'lle patience.

Are you sure you have power (external) going into your HD? I tried a WD portable and it wouldn't be read by the A500 until I connected it to an external power supply. Then I could read it without any problems.

how to connect it with external power supply ?
my hdd has only 1 usb slot, not 2 ..
Guy's....just download (HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool) to format your HD's to fat32. I did my 250 & 500GB HD and it work just find. Windows just don't format right...that's why I don't use windows to format my HD's. If you have Linux use Gparted.
I have
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14129262&postcount=8
I also have a 250gb that I can't get to read but then it needs dual-powered cable to be read on my laptop so I expected that. But my 320gb Buffalo, my 32gb Patriot and my 80gb Maxtor read just fine. All are NTFS. I have a 160gb from work that I will try tomorrow.
Connect it to windows and pull up the disk administrator (where you create partitions) and see if the disk is basic or dynamic? Just a hunch... have you tried different cables? And finally I want to be sure you are plugging it into the full sized USB pert and not the micro USB.

i am using mac, not windows, my hdd connect fine to mac, how to do this on mac?
not only different cables, yesterday i went to an it mall, there i tried almost 5 different 500gb hdd 2.5 inch, all failed, all have fat32 format, cause i checked them on my mac beforehand
yeah, of course i connect it to the usb 2.0 port..
this is what i dont understand, everyones hdd work fine in the iconia, why my iconia just cant read?
mine don't work either. I have a 1 TB western digital hard drive.
i use ntfs mount, first time install that ntfs mount apk...cant read my hdd but aftter reboot my iconia all partition on hdd can read and walk normal like on my laptop
I'm in Jakarta, so I don't think it can be a rom thing. Are you using NTFS mount, or just trying to plug the HDD into your tab and use the built-in software? Try this and it should fix the problem.

Usb 3.0 port differs from 2.0 see the usb port of note 3 so it might be a problem to include it....since some HDD consume more power they will not work..ive tried with OTG and a trancend usb 3.0 8gb pendrive and it worked flawlessly

yeah i know the port differs but since the soc is same i think we can solder a usb 3.0 with some tweaking. anyways i provided hdd with esternal power with the help of a cable i modified. also did you tried any 16gb pendrive? i think size may have been a problem too?
also pls can you try an external hddso that i woud be certain that this is not a issue with my phone only. thanks in advance
anybody else getting same issue? (notification saying usb safe to remove..)

All you have to do is install Paragon NTFS & HFS+ on your phone & grant it superuser permission. Now use ES File Explorer to go to the /mount directory & you will find your hard disk partition there.
Sometimes you may get an error while trying to access the files in the secondary partitions. For this issue you will have to manually unmount those partitions in Paragon app and mount them to a location of your choice.
Hope this helps.

[Q] Sandisk Dual USB OTG + Stock ROM

Hi Guys,
does anyone know if there are any issues with the OTG on the stock Galaxy S4 (i9506 Telstra)?
I purchased a Sandisk Dual USB OTG drive 64GB and for some reason after it detects it and says "USB Connector Connected", it comes up with "USB Mass Storage Safely Removed" straight away.
I have checked few of the apps on the market that check if OTG works, and they all show it is enabled on the device.
I have also formated the drive exFat and tried FAT32, and neither of them work.
any ideas why the drive unmounts automatically?
@AntaresOne. Throw some light here!

Hello,
First, FAT32 is made to be used on disks of max 32GB (you can also use exFAT on this size as I currently do), and starting from 64GB you should always use exFAT.
Are you sure that device's USB connector is not dirty? If may be, clean it with a toothpick.
If this doesn't solve your problem, see if there are software updates for your device (could be a software issue), try also an other OTG device (a simple pendrive+OTG cable is enough)

cool, thanks. didn't know about the FAT32 limitation. and Yes my USB connector is clean and all. it doesn't seem to be hardware problem. I've got the latest stock 4.3.
I'll try on another S4 when I get the chance. I might need to get OTG cable, will come in handy one day. All I have right now is that Sandisk USB stick (which is very handy to have when it works )
I"ll try few more things and report back. I just wanted to check if anyone has OTG USB drive that works with the S4.
I just figured it out. I had encryption enabled on my phone memory and SD card. Not sure why this interferes with reading the USB.
It worked perfectly as soon as I disabled the decryption on the phone and SD card.

[Q] Mount USB Storage On Nexus 4

Hello guys!
I got my Y OTG CABLE yesterday and I wanted to plug my external HDD into my phone. I tried everything yesterday but i couldn't make it work. The disc was turned on but I couldn't see it on my phone. I tried many apps that they were supposed to do the job (like stickmount) but no luck. Can you help me fix it? I have This Kernel and I'm on Android L
Solved! Checked usb otg option on Synapse app that comes with kernel, saved changes, installed stickmount and plugged my external hdd on otg. Note: i checked su on boot on supersu because some times was kinda hard to connect external devices.

1 TB Selfpowered HD via OTG on Zenphone2 Laser ZOOED

Hello everyone, i hope i'm in the right section of the forum.
I'm trying to load a Toshiba Canvio Basic via otg with my zenfone2 laser, but it won't start. Can you see the white led and ear the hd start but nothing happend on the phone.
Instead an old Samsung S2 plus, works perfecty (a little slowly), any one knows how and why?
Is there some limitation by lollipop?
ps : the Zenfone2 is stock, the only mod that i've do is the root, same thing on the S2 Plus
Lollipop cant read ntfs partition. Also you should use some externally powered USB hub if you are going to use external HDD.
