ICS 4.0.3 OTA halted by Google

google stopped the ota
i just wanted to have a confirm of what i 've read in a italian forum.. it seems that google decided to stop the ota because of an excessive usage of the cpu and a battery bug in the ics for nexus s.. is it real??

Yes due to high CPU usage and battery drain. Hopefully the CPU usage is contributing to the poor app drawer performance. If not then hopefully it is on the list. The app drawer on my S is TERRIBLE compared to friend's Galaxy Nexus.

I have a ns4g and for those that received the ics update on the ns, Google will fix it. I'm sure within a week(s) because they are admitting fault and pulling it so more people aren't disappointed. I on the other hand have an extended battery and would gladly take that ics update lol

I dont think this is happening to everyone, I am using 4.0.3 and cpu usage is low and battery is great. Same with 2 friends that installed it. Maybe something related to specific networks or sinals.

Sad to see Google break because of a deadline.. There is no possible way anyone involved in the development and testing of ICS on the Nexus S line didn't notice the problems with it on this phone. This is something I'd expect out of Samsung.. It's ok though, thanks to devs my phone is finally stable enough..

No wonder the i9020a hasn't seen the update yet. I hope they can resolve this bug quickly. Like before Christmas.

It will take a few builds for Google to get all the bugs ironed out. Same happened with the Nexus One and GB.

it;s a kernel issue...use a custom kernel, and it should be fine

I'm having this problem. The phone stays awake while I don't use it. And when I check the stats Android OS' is eating most of my battery and keeps the phone from sleeping. I have stock ICS with stock kernel.

So where is the official statement from Google that the OTA has stopped?

There hasn't been one (EDIT: that I've seen). The updates are still live on Google's servers, so until there is official word or the update is pulled, there is no reason to assume the OTA is ending.

Very strange, 4.0.3 is much better for me than 2.3. What we can expect?

yes very nice and i changed the date in my phone, after 25th it will get back at the normal style.In most of the time i hate se for abandoning X8 but i got to admit that they are very clever

Yes only arc launcher has this thing i don't know if active has....but if i find out i'll tell ya

That's cool. I'm using a ICS Themed Active Launcher but yet there is no such thing. But my Go SMS Pro surprised me because when someone message me with a "Christmas" word in it there will be Snow falling down in the conversation view.

Very nice but as I said this is on arc launcher ,active usualy has 4 corner screen the dock is modified for active

This has pretty much made my phone unusable. Crashes 10+ times a day and I have to take the battery out to restart.
Also drains the battery at the rate of 15% an hour.
The SD card has also stopped working. Getting the message "Preparing the SD card....Checking for Errors" In the notification bar.

Hope it disappears today.
Can I get rid of it by installing a different launcher?

Well the icons disappeared and the phone was somewhat OK for half a day.
Now it wont even start up. Getting the message "Sorry. Process system is not responding." Neither the wait or force close button works.
I press the off button and then they become active. I try to boot into x recovery but no good.
Any suggestions?

2sugestions:
1: reinstall the launcher
2:change the rom with a new 2.2 rom
2+1/2: try to full wipe the rom sometimes it helps
Hope it will fix ur problem

Really love the Sony's gallery but on this version I got a lot of FC. When I look at the logs I can see some errors with the app and "android runtime"... But I'm on Dalvik !

Nope you're right I'm on KitKat. Does it change something ?

I'm using the Xperia Gallery on KK. Mahdi ROM 7/19. Dalvik runtime. No FC, every feature works so far.

Well I suppose I have done something wrong with my phone. I have some crashes on Android System UI and few FC with certains apps like MC5, Sony Gallery or Poweramp.
Maybe it's the Android L keyboard I have installed (zip) which have broken something. I will have to wipe all and reinstall a clean KitKat.

Still haven't found anything that comes anywhere close to Quickpic as a gallery program... latest version even allows you to view Flickr, Picasa, Drive, Baidu, One Drive and more, whilst also working fine with the L preview!
Not to mention that it also uses Immersive mode when viewing photos!

I received the update in the morning. Have used the tab briefly 15 min after update. The display quality has improved, it appears more crispy, colors are more vibrant. One thing noticeable is, it is blazing fast. Have played NFS most wanted for few minutes, and it was a piece of cake.
Will spare more time with it in evening.

Got it today, the update needs a lot of time, cause of many reboots for optimizsation of all installed apps. But finally it works.

awesome got min today aswell.. never thought this tablet would get it hahah.

It's taken me flashing back stock recovery (quite reasonably since wouldn't install with TWRP as others have found) and taking off the excellent Shaky kernel (and actually reinstalling a full stock system since my wifi wasn't working when I just flashed the stock kernel back) ... and I'm all upgraded and good to go . Pleasant surprise for a Friday, since like many I'd given up expecting the upgrade!

Is it just me or does the upgrade kill internal memory?

Any one sight laggy menu ? For me L brings tons of lags...

why cant I access internal memory ...!!!

you can try it may work but i am not the dev for twrp so really dont know.

my note 7 gets alot warmer after this. .i dont like this and u must use activity launcher to access the performance option why the hell did they hide that ? i regret i updated to this nonsense
and tested a few games there is more lag too which i never had before.. what happend to increased performance ? so far i have worse battery it drains very quick now from 65 to 60 in like a few min wtf ? , more lag and it gets alot warmer

Custom security fixes

I have Z1C with stock firmware 14.3.A.757. It's rooted. I like it battery usage and don't want to upgrade to Lollipop, because it drains battery. But I know, that Android 4.4.2 has some vulnerabilities, so I would like to fix them "manually". Is there a way to apply a liitle patch for it like hotfixes in Windows?

An easy fix for the stagefright vulnerability is just to switch off MMS autodownload in the settings of your SMS/MMS app.

I want 4.4.4, but I don't know how to get it with root and ability to install it from TWRP.

Are you unsing Facebook or Whatsapp? When I installed LP (stock) I had poor battery life, top consumers were Apps with Internet connection like FB, Whatsapp, Chrome. They would keep the mobile radio active (bug?). Battery life was 1 day, now, after downgrading to KK, I get 3 days.

Using facebook lite,whatsapp,chrome and i kill wakelocks with amplify
I got almost no drain at night on wifi and 3g,i loose like 2% for 8 hrs so i think my phone is normal...

I see your screenshot and I think, your uptime is hardly equal 2 days, about 1.5
So I will not update to LP. I will disable MMS and will live fine

I see what you're saying, but I hardly doubt you have 4 hours screen on time over those 2 days. Screen kills the battery most, and I haven't used stamina mode yet.
It's up to you, but I think the security is worth it. I'd update, give it a week or so to settle and see how it is. If it's not what you had before, you can always roll back to 4.4.2.

Updating to a LP will not help to fix all latest security issues. Only after Sony will release a firmware updates you will get it.

At least in that screen shot, data is not active that I can tell. That would make a big difference.

Come on guys, send screenshots when you use the smartphone normally, not like a Nokia 1100 xDD
