[Q] Updating i9505 with firmware XXUDMH8 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried to update the phone OTA but it says that its already updated to its latest version and i tried it on kies and it says that my device is not supported to update via kies. Im running my phone with android 4.2.2 jelly bean. I want to upgrade to kitkat because my phone drains battery faster based on my observations with my cousins phone, we also tried to change batteries just to make sure.
Is there a way to update this phone? I am willing to root this phone if thats what it takes.
Thanks

Please post the following information:
1. Model Number
2. Android Version, found by going to Settings > More > About device.
3. Firmware Version (AP, CP, CSC), found by dialing *#1234# in the dialer or by installing Phone Info from the Play Store and running it.
4. Service Provider
5. Country
6. Is the phone rooted? (Yes/No)
7. Is a custom ROM installed? (Yes/No, and the name of the ROM)

1. GT-i9505
2. Version 4.2.2
3.Firmware Version
AP: I9505XXUDMH8
CP:I9505XXUDMH8
CSC:I9505XXDMHA
4.Globe
5.Philippines
6.No
7.No

From appearances the ROM that was installed was for a carrier unlocked unit. If the S4 is still tied to Globe that would explain why Kies didn't work. The correct version for you, based on the information given, is here. Flash it using Odin.

After that i can update the phone? Can i use Odin v.3.10.6? Thanks sir
By the way can i use different version like the international version?

1, That's the current ROM. If Samsung pushes an OTA update you should get it without any trouble.
2, Odin 3.10.6 is fine.
3. If your phone is carrier unlocked you can install any ROM you wish. However, you wouldn't get any OTA updates and Kies would report that the ROM and the device don't match. If your phone is not unlocked, it's not recommended to flash other ROMs and to stick with the ROM for your device.

How can i determine if its carrier unlocked? My phone can use other service providers here in the philippines, does that mean that it is carrier unlocked? Thanks sir

If you insert a SIM from another provider and can get service on the S4 then the phone is carrier unlocked.

If downloaded the version that you shared can i still use different sim card? If not can you send the link of the version that can be used by different carrier just to make sure? Thanks sir

Yes. Once you're unlocked, the ROM you install doesn't matter too much. Any SIM card should work in the S4.

1. Which version saves battery better the version 4.4.2 or 5.01? Because im just after the battery performance sir.
2. Can my firmware version be the reason why my phone sometimes cant detect my sim card and will be needing to restart my phone. Sometimes even i restart my phone my phone cant still detect my sim card so i need to restart it again. Is it a hardware or a software issue?
3.If im not satisfied with the battery performance of lolipop can i just repeat the steps you gave but instead use the 4.4.2 version provided by globe at the same site you gave?
Thanks sir

Galaxy S4 I9505 fresh KitKat

Hellou,
Recently I bought Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505. Unlocked and updated to KitKat 4.4.2. It was used i CH for a very short time, but now, it will be used in BiH. Somewhere I read that KitKat was distributed for different regions, so as phone is moved from CH to BiH, I want to do fresh install of KitKat.
From where should I download appropriate KitKat and what is the easiest way to install fresh KitKat, and also root my phone?
Informations can be seen in attachment.
1. Install Kies 3. Look for the 3 letters btw parenthesis close CSC. It will give u the code for know what firmware you have to download.
2. Go to Sammobile.com, log and sig in (pic 1)
3. Look for your firmware and download it
4. Flash it through ODIN like in the pic attached 2
5. Enjoy it

Now I have a problem. My Galaxy S4 I9505 is updated to KitKat 4.4.2 and I need to insert SIM card from BH Telecom (Bosnia and Herzegovina).
And KitKat 4.4.2 is not yet available for BH Telecom. Assume I should downgrade my phone to 4.3, as it is last version available for BHT.
But I read about many problems with downgrading from 4.4.2 to 4.3
What should I do?

1. Unlock ur phone thorugh IMEI. You can find a lot of pages in Internet that do this cheap.
2. You cant downgrade ur phone without millions of problems (signal lost, no sound, no wifi, random reboots....). Dont do it :highfive:

I messed up updates related to regions and operators. My phone is unlocked as I mentioned above, so I can use my BHT card, so you can ignore my previous post. But what about updates? I must wait every time those updates for CH region?
Can someone give detailed explanation what these distributions according to region mean? Why there is not ONE OFFICIAL ANDROID DISTRIBUTION for specific phone model?

No longer getting a 4G connection

So I tried a few roms this morning (Resurrection Remix, Goldfinger, Imperium) and since then, i've noticed I'm no longer getting a 4G connection. It's either 3G or H+.
I have no idea why, can anyone help me out?
Before anyone asks, I've tried *#1234# and I get the message "Connection problem or invalid MMI code."
can anyone help me out?
I've now got CM12 installed, after a complete wipe of everything, and still no 4g -_-
You have to be on a stock ROM to get the AP, CP, and CSC of your S4, as the code only works through the stock dialer. Speaking of which, install a stock ROM and tell us if the problem continues. If it does, BEFORE flashing back to your custom ROM, please post the following information.
1. Model Number - GT-I9505
2. Android Version - 4.4.2
3. Firmware Version - AP: I9505XXUFNB8 CP: I9505XXUFNB8 CSC: I9505BTUFNB3
4. Service Provider - 3 UK
5. Country - United Kingdom
6. Is the phone rooted? - At the moment, since I've just installed stock 4.4.2 - No.
7. Is a custom ROM installed? - No. Stock.
Appreciate the help!
You didn't mention whether you were able to get LTE on the stock ROM. But, check to see if your network is set to LTE/WCDMA/GSM in settings.
No im still only getting 3G/H+ and yes, its set to LTE by default.
I always get 4G when sitting at my computer, but ever since I flashed a couple different roms last night, I've not been able to get a 4G signal. I havn't a clue what's happened.
Flash the stock modem for your phone through Odin. Do it twice if need be. Sometimes the modem firmware fails to correctly register leading to odd problems like this. Check to be sure everything works, then flash the custom ROM of your choice, or stay stock but debloat your ROM.

How do I know what my stock modem is? Thats what confuses me.
If you're unlocked, you can use any stock modem you want from the modem thread in General. Grab the one at the bottom of the list as it's the latest.

ok I flashed the XXUGNG2 modem. If im not mistaken XX designates United Kingdom, and NG2 seems to be the latest of those. So thats the one I flashed. So far there doesn't seem to be any difference though. Checked it via *#1234# and CP reads I9500XXUGNG2 so It looks like it flashed properly.
Ok crisis averted. It seems 3 must be doing some kind of maintenance in my area because I just tried an EE sim card in my phone and it recieves a 4G signal just fine. Nice of 3 to do maintenance at exactly the same time I decided to try a couple of new roms.... Just my luck.
Anyway, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong my phone after all, but thanks for your time trying to help me.

The latest firmware for your S4 is here. Make sure you have the drivers from Samsung installed, then follow the instructions on that page to install the ROM. Be aware that if you have problems after installing the ROM you'll need to install it again.
Cheers for your help is there anywhere else to download from the site is a bit slow?
Stu.
www.samsung-updates.com, but I don't believe it's going to be any faster. After all, you are dealing with a 1.5GB download.
ok cheers I'll stick with this one its got 50 mins left

Flashing stock G900F firmware on my G900P S5?

Hi! I've been searching all over the internet for any way to do this, until I got to the point in which I'm not sure it's even possible.
So I finally decided to ask here.
Is there any way I can flash a stock G900F firmware (more specifically, one of the ILO's versions since I live in Israel) on my SM-G900P?
During my search I've come across pit files, csc codes, firmwares, adb and whatnot. I can't make any sense out of it any more.
I've searched this entire post and found nothing that works for me.
I have tried every method that I could, but it just won't cut it.
Every time when I try to flash the European PIT file or the general G900F PIT file or the ILO (android 5.0) stock firmware, I get a security check error.
When it's the rom, I get security check: aboot. When it's the PIT file I'm trying to flash I get security check: PIT.
Some say you can't flash G900x roms on a G900y phone. Some say you can. I'm very confused, I have no idea what to do, and my
stock G900P firmware is giving me some issues (let alone not being in my native language).
My sister bought this phone for me, and it had an Hebrew option, but it was running a firmware far from a stock one.
It also had many problems and bugs and freezes, so I changed the firmware to match the model. Can anyone help me, please??
Hi
For your S5 G900P model there is already 6.0.1 rom download the firmware and install it through ODIN
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G900P/
download any country S5 G900P 6.0.1 firmware it will work
Dont try to install other variants firmware to yours it might brick your device

My problem is the default G900P firmware. Even on the latest PVPU3CPCA
running Marshmallow 6.0.1, the phone itself ignores calls sometimes and notifactions.
Yesterday I got a call without my phone ringing at all. It didn't show there was an unanswered call.
I get disconnections and many other problems, even with the default firmware.
This is why I ask if I can change my default firmware, or just give up on my phone.
Note: I've managed to install 5.0.1 Lollipop default firmware (BOK4) and install Cyanogenmod 12 for my model. It is working but the call ignores and disconnections and the notifcations ignores still persist. Should I just give up and sell my phone?

Try other country firmware, there may be bugs that came by default with your country firmware
Try to clean install firmware by going to recovery and clear cache and data
No you can't flash stock firmware for a different model S5
Thanks for the reply. I guess I'll flash my stock G900P Marshmallow firmware.
I will however, change my mobile network supplier, and report here the results.
It could be a compatibility issue with Samsung.

I have used TWRP to factory reset and reset data. Afterwards I flashed a stock
G900P (lollipop, I believe) firmware which I got from Sammobile.
Then my device updated to G900PVPU3CPE1 using OTA update.
I did already try all of the 4 variants (unknown and Sprint), all had these issues with them.
Note: I used to have G900PVPU3CPCA. Now it is CPE1. Not sure how this will effect anything.
I have relative problem but in my case the phone give two different version whith phone checking by 1234 it say it's G900F model AP:G900FXXU1BOC1, CP:G900FXXU1BOC7, CSC:G900FITV1BOC1 but when I check with phone info apk all information is for G900P I ready try to update to MM6 with G900P stock firmware and then the phone IMEI changed to 9....serie after when I restaure the backup ROM the phonegive now many issues like COMEBACK and MENU KEYS don't work, when I receive a call the phone restart and camera don't work if sameone have solution , I thanks in advance
dont flash a tar.md5 on your G900P thats for another variant, it could hard brick your device. The problem youre having with missing calls isnt from the firmware. Are you not using it on sprint anymore? I saw your mention of Hebrew on it which leads me to think that youre using it outside of the US, if thats the case, the phone is entirely capable of using non-US GSM carriers, I used mine in Romania and Bulgaria this summer with zero issue.

All the information is here, read
Whatever model it says in download mode is the correct model, the rest are faked to sell a different model phone as a more popular one
now what to do to make it working like before on GSM
I live in Ghana. I bought my Galaxy s5 from a store. Obviously they said it is brand new. I went back to office and tried updating to marshmallow and I was informed that the phone has been changes in an unauthorized way so I should download the update via kids or smartswitch.
Mind you, the phone came with a firmware for model g900f (I couldn't write down the firmware details since I did not know what they meant then). I thought it was a firmware error so I wanted to upgrade manually, and when I booted to download mode I rather found the model to be a g900p.
After flashing back to g900p I cannot flash back to g900f because the phone is inactivated even though I use a high speed wifi, I cannot access lots of functions like find my samsung.
I know there is a way to flash back to g900f. Please help me and my friend up there. Thank you
guys, you can use a g900p in countries outside of the USA. I just did that less than 6 months ago (Romania and Bulgaria). What errors are you getting when you pop the sim card in? Is youre device rooted with a custom recovery? what ROM and baseband are you on? Certain ROMs only need you to run the SSU.apk to unlock the global capability of it. Also, idoneapps.com is a place you can go to fully unlock the device. @idone and @Nodial are the forum moderators over there and they are likely the smartest guys in the room
---------- Post added at 12:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:27 PM ----------
also, idoneapps.com charges $35 for their unlock service, but if youre at a dead end, its a price worth paying. Ive unlocked both of my G900Ps thru them, and their work is flawless

Problem with OTA update, my S4 cant find latest updates (GT-I9505)

I have problem with OTA updates, my S4 cant find update for Lollipop 5.0.1, i tryed with flashing stock rom in odin, but i received a message; Nand Write FAILED. My current version is 4.4.4. Please help me !!!
Did you try using the original Samsung USB cable? Did you try other USB cables and USB ports? What file is Odin failing to write to the phone?
Trajko03
I think aboot and NAND Write Failed
If I'm not mistaken, only the T-Mobile S4 got Android 4.4.4. Everyone else in the family from what I recall skipped that version and went straight to 5.0.1. Could you please verify your model number by entering download mode?
If the model number is an I9505, install Phone Info from the Play Store, run it, and provide us with your AP, PDA, and CSC.
Stopping at the aboot file leads me to believe that the rom doesn't match the phone or the bootloader in the phone is too new.

Install a custom ROM. Your device is not an international (GT-I9505) model but a T-Mobile device. The SGH-M919 is the only Galaxy S4 model - other than models offered by Straight Talk - to not be upgraded to Android 5.0.1. Odin fails because the ROMs you're attempting to install are not for your device. There are no OTA updates because the update path stopped at the version of Android you currently have.
Stock sgh-m919n ROMs are here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SGH-M919N/

...i must root my phone and unlock my bootloader or my phone(T-Mobile) will get lollipop???
Your bootloader isn't locked. However, installing a custom recovery, which is needed to install a custom ROM, will trip Knox. After 3-1/2 years however, tripping Knox is no longer an issue as there is no warranty left on the device.
The custom ROM you install will likely be pre-rooted, so Android Pay and Pokémon Go are out; neither of which is a big deal.
