Is sip working in lollipop? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It works here, but not really as expected. I have a sip account and set up the dialer to "always ask". When it asks, the dialer disappears completely, but keeps calling. If I havigate to the phone app and I click "return to dialer", while it's still calling I see the "ask" dialog again, wanting to know whether to use sip or the operator call.
Any other experiences with that?

No Internet Calling (SIP) account keeps coming up

I have a stock Tmobile HTC G2 on Android 2.3.4. When I attempt to make a call while connected to a wifi network, I receive this message "No Internet Calling Account". This only happens when my phone is on wifi and it doesn't matter if I have wifi calling enabled or not, I still get this message. I have to disable wifi to actually make a call on this phone now.
For reference, I have two HTC G2's. This particular one doesn't have a data plan, so it stays on wifi. Both phones are stock and running 2.3.4 Android.
I remember the first time I tried to make a call after the upgrade to 2.3.4, it popped up with what program to use for the call. I hit what I thought was the green normal phone one, but then I get a warning message that says "No Internet Calling Account" There are no Internet calling accounts on this phone. Add one now? My choice is Add or cancel. If I choose to add it brings me to a screen to add SIP accounts.
I guess I need to figure out a way to keep this SIP (Internet Calling) from being the "default" setting when dialing out while on Wifi? For reference, my other G2 dials out just fine when wifi is connected and uses Tmobile's network like it should, or I can use the WifI calling. It behaves as it should. On this other phone, neither of those options work on this phone. I have to be off wife to actually dial out. I can receive calls just fine though, even with wifi connected.
No help on this one? Someone has to know what is going on?
Yes...it is pretty simple. I'm at work right now so I can't give you the exact details, but go into Menu > Settings > Phone (I believe it's in the phone tab), scroll to the bottom and there is a segment on Internet Calling. Just uncheck Internet Calling as default for all calls; select it to be used just for Internet Calls. That should solve the problem.
So you have a call plan but not data plan correct?

I had forgot to say I checked yes and yes it was set to ask, but I changed it to only for Internet calls, but still no go. The only other option in there is the "For All Calls".

Correct, I have a normal Calling plan and texting, just no data on this phone. My work provides me with this number, but I'm not good enough to get data.
Anyway, I've been using this phone like that since Dec, and its never been an issue until the upgrade to Gingerbread.
Have you installed an app called voice changer? If so uninstall it and see if that works, it was causing that same issue on my sons phone. You can also try going to settings - apps - manage apps, choose the app named dialer and click clear defaults.
Now we might be getting somewhere. I do have voice changer downloaded. Don't think I've ever used it. Il drop it off and see what happens. Thanks a bunch

JC, you nailed it. First I went through and reset the default on the dialer which was one of the things I was trying to do, I just couldn't figure out how to do it.
So the next time I attempted to make a call (while connected to wifi) it came up with 2 options to dial out. One was the voice dailer app, and the other was Dialer, but it had (SIP) behind it. That Dialer was the one I hit the first time around and set it to default thinking there is no way I want the default to be the voice changer, but for some reason it only gives you that SIP option. I'm guessing the voice changer is hogging the standard dial out option.
Since it still appeared that I couldn't call out with just the normal dialer, I went ahead and uninstalled that Voice Changer app and that was it. Its back to the way I'm expecting it!
I'm glad you ran into that with your son's phone as you figured out exactly what the issue was. I don't think I have that app on my other phone and that explains why it wasn't experiencing the same thing.
Same issue, but with HTC Desire 600. I did a factory reset, then restored from Google backup. Now I get that message on every phone number.
I can't find those settings or anything, it's Sense 5 and everything is different here. I have no SIP apps or anything installed on phone. please help

[Q] Using SIP client for pre-defined contacts

Hey guys,
I'm on (nearly) latest nightly build. I want to use the SIP client built in the dialer to make VOIP calls. This works totally fine but I want to call just a few numers/contacts via internet call and the others over regular cell network. When I select the option "Use internet calls... only for internet calls" (or sth similar) I never found an option how to do that call no matter if I dial the number directly or if I want to call a contact. The other option would be to choose between regular and internet call before I make the call but that started to get annoying
Does anybody have a clue? Help is much appreciated, thanks in advance
Best, Bootsy
Alright, I found a solution in case anybody is interested:
In order to call a specific number always via SIP you have to add a GOOGLE-contact (Exchange contact does not work since it does not have the appropriate field) and simply add the field "internet call" where you put the phone number. If your dialer is set to use SIP only for internet calls all outgoing calls use cellular network except of the numbers which are stored as "internet calls".

SIP settings

How do you get to the SIP settings on this phone?
Any ideas?
Still the same problem with Android 8 -.-
I had this option on all Android phones so far. This phone is missing that. How is this stock Android?
Attached screenshot from A1 and Note 3
Same problem here. All my previous phones had this setting but this one has not.
Does it have something to do with dual sim?

No. Xiaomi removed that feature for some reason.
I've found a solution about a month ago, it works well.
install QuickShortcutMaker
click on "Ricerca incrementale" and select "Ricerca normale" (based on the Italian version of the app)
search "sip"
click on "sip settings" and next on the button "Provare" (maybe "Try" in english)
click on the button + on the top, configure your SIP account
uninstall QuickShortcutMaker

Works fine to add new SIP accounts but Xiaomi has removed other things such as choosing which account to use to make the call (works only with SIM accounts): a workaround is to duplicate an existing contact with only sip telephony.
I can not make call reception work. Any ideas?
I have the same problem, and I wonder if should I install another Phone apk that supports SIP.VOIP, and I wonder which apk?

On Oreo 8.1 August 2018 receiving SIP calls works fine for me.
My providers are sonetel and sipgate.
On the Xiaomi Mi A1 it is not possible to configure VOIP / SIP as described:
https://support.google.com/phoneapp/answer/2811843?hl=en
With the help of external tools I was able to set up a VOIP account in the A1
and got it to log into a SIP VOIP service provider.
-Install Activity Launcher from play store.
-Open the app and hit All activites from the drop down.
-Scroll down to Phone Services and open it
-Scroll down to SIP Settings open it
-This opens the settings dialog in which you add an account.
-Open the regular Phone Dialer and open Settings/Calling Accounts.
-Open All calling accounts and enable the account you added earlier.
Let me know if it works for you.

I did it exactly that way: no way to make incoming calls work.
When I enable the account previously added to "Calling Accounts" (Dialer / Settings), the account name is displayed twice while in "SIP Settings" it is written that call reception is not active.
My provider is local (account is created from a FritzBox) and i've Oreo 8.1 with August 2018 patch. (EDIT: my phone is not rooted.)
Thank you anyway

Unrooted phone here as well.
I get double listings as well - as I use 2 incoming accounts, the list shows 4 entries.
(Have you enabled the accounts by hitting "All calling accounts" and then set the respective switch on?)
It seems weird to me that you can't receive calls, as in SIP accounts both my accounts show the notification "Receiving calls".
And of course incoming calls ring fine.
I use these SIP accounts to receive incoming calls to int'l numbers both through my fritz!box 7490 as well as to my mobile when away from home.
Sonetel provides free trial accounts I think. Perhaps you try that.
Good luck!

There's an app "Galaxy SIP accounts" which helped me to enable outgoing SIP calls:
It makes my A1 stock dialer to ask whether to place a call through an inserted SIM or through a SIP account.
In other words: SIP incoming and outgoing calls can be enabled on the A1 without going through a 3rd party app.
So Xiaomi - why do you hide the stock settings menus???
After October security patches, dialing out even works better.
Before the latest update, the outgoing number had to be selected twice.
Now dial-out selection is like it should:
Thank you

Not sure when it was fixed (June update?).

SIP + Native dialer

Greetings,
I'm currently using an app to make voip calls, but I would like to use the native android app. Ive set up SIP account, once I make a call it pops up a window where it asks for which sim card i would like to use, the added sip account is there, but if i select it, it pops up another window, asking the same question, but in this time without the sip account. What should I do? What might be reason behind this issue?
Thanks in advance!

SIP calling with MIUI dialer app not working

I have a SIP number and would love to use it reagularily next to my mobile network number, but unfortunately I can not get the MIUI dialer app to work properly with SIP calls.
I can set up my SIP account in the dialer and receive calls without a problem. Unfortunately it seems to be impossible to tell the dialer to make a specific call through the SIP though. I expected to be offered the choice of which provider I want to make each call through, but there is no per call choice.
I can dig in the settings and restart the dialer app to make it dial exclusively through SIP, or exclusively through mobile network, but that is extremely unpractical. I know a third party SIP app woul work, but I really want to use the integrated solution. Does anyone know how to pull this off?

Just guessing. If Dialer includes hidden support for SIP, maybe Contacts have too. That way you would define a Contact with SIP URI only, and Dialer would recognize and route as SIP call

The SIP implementation isn't really thought through by Xiaomi. But in your address book you can add "internet calls" for contacts (e.g. [email protected]) which are always called via your SIP profile. It's a good workaround for known contacts.

have you solve the problem using the contacts? i have same problem, receive calls normally, but dialing to a [email protected] on contact, receive a message: anyone response, limit time expired.
I have Redmi Note 8. I was able to use a SIP account before, I just dialed the number and I was prompted to select the account I would like to dial that number from (my SIM cards or my SIP account). Then I factory reset my phone. Added my SIP account back to the built-in phone APP, but when I try to call using my SIP number, I am prompted to select the account I would like to dial from, when I select my SIP account, then I am prompted to choose from my SIM cards only again. My SIP account is correct, because it registered correctly and if I setup SIP account only the SIP calls go through.
