I have had my Galaxy Note 4 for maybe four months now. I consider myself more knowledgeable with android devices, and just phones in general, than the average consumer.
My device is, and has always been.. laggy! It' hiccups when changing apps, when in some apps, and with other random toggles and processes. I don't think my problem is specifically with my Note 4, but just.. Android in general. It seems that every Android device I've owned (4 or 5 total) are all laggy, but when I get a new device, the lag is just slightly improved. The lag is certainly noticeable, and at times frustrating., especially when compared to my iPhone 6 plus (I switch between the two).
I love Android, more than I think I'll ever love iOS, but the buttery smooth transitions and animations on the iPhone make my Note 4 look like it's 5 years old! Even if you're extremely against Apple, you can't disagree with me.. am I wrong?!
I'm posting this thread here because I do have some questions to go along with my rambling d:
1. Would you consider your Note 4 somewhat laggy? Does it ever.. frustrate you?
2. Have you found a fix? Is the fix.. installing a custom ROM? Is there a tweak I haven't found? Installing a stock Lollipop ROM?
3. Anything else!?
I have a Sprint Galaxy Note 4 - Unrooted, and on Lollipop 5.0.1
I have before been Rooted with a custom Touchwiz ROM - Same problems d:
Seems your usage makes it this way.... i had many android devices from Htc desire hd to note 4 no one was this laggy as you talk about

Is you device rooted, custom ROM, any tweaks?
What should I do about this? I've factory reset it several times, rooted, installed custom ROMs, etc, just about everything I can think of.
Scrolling through certain apps like the Gallery app and even Kik messenger, it's slow and laggy as I scroll up and down through pictures or messages.
Could my device be defective? I've never dropped it, it's in Pristine condition, not a scratch or imperfection! Would Samsung do anything about this if I contacted them? Would Sprint?

I am running N910C with Android L 5.0.1 BOC3 TTT (Trinidad and Tobago) NOT rooted.
I don't buy Carrier branded phones because they install lots of bloatware which I think contributes to the lagginess you are complaining about.
The first thing I do after setting up the phone, is to disable apps and crap I don't use. Google+, Facebook, Whatsup, etc. I also disable services

I mean.. say this does help.. I didn't pay $800 for a device where it only works how it should with everything disabled!
I'm planning on taking it in to Sprint to see what they say since I pay for some type of device protection every month, is there any way they can tell my device has been previously rooted, when it currently is not rooted?

hi ,
Firstly....i agree overall ,with Salim.Keady post # 2 above .
i have been using Android since the days of windows phones ,we ( forum members ) use to " boot " Android up onto our sd cards........... !!I
I have come a long way with Android ..and so have others .
That said, at present i have Note4 ( N910F ) stock , rooted on Lollipop...... BOC3
(i used to have a branded Vodafone, but flashed over it to unbranded .)
I also have Note 2 ,Note 3 ,Note 8.0 Tab
All my devices is running " very" smoothly ,batteries usage on all of them is, very very good.etc no lag on any of them .Lucky ..no i don't think so ! (Even when they were all on branded ROMs ,they were smooth etc )
On my Note 4 the only hiccup i got with "lag " is the recent button and so have many others ...(that is all )
I have to say , i have also had the odd " hiccup (eg .battery drain or lag " ) when i was on Android v4.4.4 ,and then had Xposed module installed ,i had terrible lag ,but i "fixed/patched " it and had afterwards ,no problems at all .
Also ,when i uninstalled Xposed, it also broke a few apps ..afterwards ,(eg apps crashing /freezing etc )
But this i fixed with factory rest etc .
When i flashed lollipop... BOB4 ( no problems )
I then flashed... BOC3, no problems at first and after a few days picked up a terrible "wakelock "
I managed to id the correct "wakelock " and disable it ..
Ever scince, device is now better on Lollipop ,than Android v4.4.4 !
My experience is ,that to me, it is not necessary ,to flash custom Rom out of desperation/fustration ? ....unless you want to of course !
So my answer to your questions is
1 No , not at all !!!
It can be smooth and overall lag free (if you "tweak "it right using correct "tools " and searching for fixes( if you do have an issue )
2 I have noticed that a lot of custom Roms have their own problems/issues !!
So possibility is that you could start another "chapter" of issues with your device ?
3 One "tip " is ( maybe you know it ..?) but go to settings /developers options / and change Windows animation scale ,Transion animation scale and Animator duration scale .......(.mine is eg set on 0.5 x but you can turn it off also )
You will noticed your device is much "snappier " ...ok it won't help much with lag, but it will be more " snappier /faster .
If you don't believe that, then turn all 3 ( as listed above )up to say .....1x or 1.5x.and see it does make a difference !!
you will see your device is slower but smoother ??? but as said, your lag won't go away !
Above all said , possibility is that your phone could be defective ? but this you should "pick " up, if so (with your experience .)
Good luck
i think its just android in General.
i have a Ipad Air and no android phone can come close to how smooth everything is on the ipad.
i seriously doubted when i got my note 4, if i shouldnt have got a iphone 6...
but overall i like it and im used to android so i choosed the note 4.
if you really want a fast device you should try cyanogenmod 12, but you will lose cool features and the camera quality.
i know exactly what you mean with your story, but i think its a waste of time when you go back to the shop were you bought the phone.
i really dont think they can do something about it.
but for all that it matters, this note 4 is the best phone i ever had ! and from what i heard the battery lasts so much longer then the iphone 6's
i don't know what you do with your phone, but i never had any lag, besides the recents menu of course but that's "normal",
but then again i'm not using a stock rom obviously

2. This is true, and some will aslo install their preferred apps, that I (I speak for myself only) consider bloatware because I don't use them.
3. I forgot to mention that, but I also put mine on .5x since I had my S3. I have not done it yet on my Note 4 because I am still on the tesing phase, and I don't see or feel any lag atm.

Would you see any problem with me using the international version of the Note without rooting or using custom ROMs? Are there any annoyances you're experiencing with the stock ROM? Will Samsung actually update this device for atleast a year? My U.S. Samsung devices never got updates, but that might've been mostly the carrier's fault
Unrooted note?
I haven't rooted my note yet, and I don't have any complaints. To be honest, I really don't see a reason to root it, at least not until a functional ICS ROM is available for it. As for the updates, the main update we're looking for is ICS which I'm hearing may not be available until April though.
Ive not rooted my international Note either.
Love it!

I've rooted mine only... but to be honest I only did it out of habit.
I don't think I've actually used root for anything and will only use it to install ICS if CM9 hits before the samsung release.
I'm only rooted. Nothing more.

I'm just rooted and CWM'd... Until either a semi-stable full featured CM7 port comes out, or even better, a CM9 port, I can tough it out waiting. One thing is for sure though.
I WILL GET TOUCHWIZ OFF THIS DEVICE ONE WAY OR ANOTHER.
It's slow, it's laggy, the home button takes a CRIMINALLY long time to return to my homescreen from just about every app... it's the worst.
Samsung Galaxy NoteNexus. That'll do =)
Same here , didn't root it yet and loving it but would definitely would root it to tell the difference in two....

I haven't rooted it yet. I see no point. I used to root for taking snapshot in previous Androids. With GS2, I rooted to install few custom fonts. The only reason if I will ever need to root Note would be to install AdFree but screen is so big I don't mind few space taken away by ad and morally if I am using free version, developer should earn something from ads.
I didn't find a reason to root it either,I usually do it to install the Armenian fonts but the GNote came already installed.
The unit I have is fast and no lags so no worries in that front either.
I have rooted neither. I would only consider when stop getting OS upgrade. I will wait for ICS till then have enough to enjoy.

I agree, that lag sucks!
The lag is caused by voice control. Voice control is activated by pressing the home button twice, so when you hit it once the phone waits awhile to see if you're going to hit it again.
I rooted though I told myself not to...I'm just hooked to it!
Seriously, I like freezing the bloatware and deleting stuff that take up unncessary space and also cause my phone to slow down. With ICS, I believe one can just delete the apps without rooting, which will be great.
Based on my experience with the Galaxy S and S2, ROMs are just not worth the effort for me, except for the very lightweight ones that are deodexed and not much more.
I believe you can use the phone unrooted, unless you have itchy fingers like me.
I am Rooted, as you know second most reading thread 'How to Root' i hav wrote, n i cant stop myself unrooted. But really i can say some must things you can define 'need' are such
- To use Titanium Backup(really itz boring jobe to restore all application n setting withot it)
- If your place dont support Google Navigation
- Use set CPU (really battery sucks without this
- N atleast for me 'Root call blocker'
More thn this i dont think any must use for root.
Even myself have wrote thread how to, but i hav not pushed CF root till to my device
Incidentally if you use the superoneclick method of rooting there is an "unroot" feature built in as well.

I just singleclick rooted, so I could backup and freeze apps. None of the custom roms interest me yet.. Haven't installed cwr either.
Freezing voice control gets rid of the home button lag, good advice!!

Dr Ketan,
Can you please elaborate on the following points:
1. "If your place dont support Google Navigation"
How does rooting your phone help getting Google Navigation to work? Navigation does not work in my area, so would be good if you could share some tips.
2. "Use set CPU (really battery sucks without this)"
Are you under clocking the CPU in order to get better battery life? Can you give more details on this? Won't this make the phone more laggy?

I've rooted mine, but have not loaded a custom ROM. The main reason for rooting is for running ClockSync, Titanium Backup Pro and Theft Aware (now Avast).
Rooted.
So I can use Chainfire 3D for a night mode.

I understand there is a method by loading a modified Google Maps / Navigation APK that removes the unsupported location message. I had a brief look at the process and seemes a little complicated and I just use NDrive.

No. I was very skeptical at first about this, but I have run SetCPU on my Galaxy SII to test and performance was great and it seemed that battery life was also no problem. I installed SetCPU on my Note soon after I rooted it and have felt no performance decrease. SetCPU has a "ondemand" setting, this will change the speed of the CPU according to the needs of the apps running. Much like the SpeedStep technology found in laptops.
SetCPU has a nice info display and it shows the "Time in State" from this you can see what time your CPU is spending at each MHz increment. It stands to reason if 80% of the time the CPU is running at 200 MHz it's using less than running at 1400 MHz.
I've included a screen cap of the Time in State display from my note.

Yes sure i will guide, how you can activate google navigation in india
First Download this
Now you have req Root, and Root explorer app, b'coz you have to remove maps.apk app from Sys/apk directory, and replaced with above said application.
Anyway there is still one method, which doesn't require root, but you wil get double icon each fr lattitude, map, navigation etc(with minor difference)
if you need navigation in india then you can use that modified version of map. I mean new modified version which allow you to use navigation will install along with original map.
for this download this, and simply install like other application.
Now regarding Set CPU, i think somone hav already answered n explined nicely.
After installing SEtCPU, you will get control over CPU speed(directly affect battery performance)
e.g. If you add profile when screen is off, CPU set to 500 mH. then definetely your battery drain diminished < 1%/hr in idle state(screen off) compare to > 2 % with 3G n Data on idle state
There won't be lag issue b'coz you are under clocking in off screen state only.
Luv the screen pen etc.

Sounds like you shoulda stuck with the iphone, I don't see what benefits you would have coming over to android if you're not prepared to root and try ROMs, yes samsung is a joke, but I can honestly say I have never regretted leaving iOS for android once.........except when the phone hangs during A PHONE CALL!!!! you know the thing it was actually made for - making and receiving phone calls, Not a regular occurrence I must admit but quite an ironic defect of many new ROMs I've tried in the past, LOL

You don't need to be rooted to use PC Odin to install the latest official ROM.
There are great keyboards out there...instead of just one on the iPhone. Look at Thumb Keyboard or Swiftkey. There is even an iPhone keyboard...gasp.
And since you don't want to root (you can unroot for warranty purposes and Samsung is none the wiser....) checkout MyBackup Pro in the market.
Samsung - a joke as a company?!?! Do us a favor and never, ever buy a Motorola phone. If you are going ballistic over a Galaxy, you'll kill yourself with a Droid...
you can just copy all the files from your sd to your computer very very very easily using a usb cable, have you never used a computer before? Or alternatively download dropbox and use that to back up your phone. Little bit of research about how android works might actually benefit you. About the updates, if you wanna get all the amazing features of android compared to iphone, you'll have to put up with the update schedules, but updates don't really matter on android you still have more functions that ios.
Wow ... cool it guys. OP is simply used to the apple way of doing things. Give him some time to explore the wonderful world of Android iam sure he'll start to love it.
OP please google a bit or check the play store you will find the solutions for all your complaints.
Edit
I just checked your other posts, almost all of it is about Samsung not updating the note to ics.
Why do you want the stock ics so badly ?
Do you honestly believe that ics will solve all your problems magically?
Believe me stock ics is a can of worms that is better left unopened . (personal opinion pls don't flame me guys )
but If you are so desperate please flash any custom roms which suits your needs, I recommend paranoid
Just to add, since i got my note i have had to firmware updates. One to 2.3.6 and then the 4.0.3 update. This is since April. Now you tell me of any iphone that has had 2 updates in that timeframe. (including major updates like ics )....
And apple can update easier as in total there are only 5 phone's ,of which only a couple of model get the update. Think his many different droids there are!

Please tell me you're having a laugh.... Have you never been on http://www.damnyouautocorrect.com/ ?
i wanted new set of icons....with flashy colours...i just installed a ROM....and my friend has an iphone and he wanted to change the icons too....o]h wait...you can only change WALLPAPERS in that... thats AWESOME
ACTUALLY I have the Note and I have never rooted. I don't find it necessary. I have an application called Folder Sync, and what it does is it backs up my files every night (especially camera files, but you can set it up to your entire SD card) to Dropbox or SugarSync, it has a lot of options for providers. The benefit is that you don't manually need to connect to a computer or anything. You will always have your files synced up. I even have it so when I delete a file off of the server or my computer, it'll be reflected as well on the phone. I hated having to have to connect my phone to my computer every time I wanted to update a folder, sync something, or download something. Every night my phone waits until 4AM, plugged in and has wifi on to sync my 32 gig SD card with its content.
As for the keyboard, it might take you some time to, you know, actually get used to a normal keyboard. Apple had good autocorrect. But I'd rather take the more accurate typing space on the Note over the iPhone's smart predictive text. Apart from that, I have AutoText Replacements which means I can type ty and thank you will come out. I have "putmail" and my mailing address comes out. This is really helpful, and it can't be done on the iPhone, but yes on Android. Try Ultra Keyboard, that's what I use. Tons of themes, settings and it's fairly intuitive.
There are a lot of benefits to Android. If you're just angry about ICS not out yet in your region, I'm sorry, but many times it doesn't only depend on Samsung. It depends also on the carriers, which most bend over backwards for Apple only because they're what's hot and hip right now.
I'd say that if you're easily frustrated, stick to iOS. If you like to tinker a little, stay with Android. The possibilities are endless with apps and configurations.
Once again, I don't root because I think Android is open enough the way it is. You can download an original rom and install it without voiding your warranty, using PC Odin.
Foldersync link
Ultra Keyboard link
This is as close as Im getting to a rotten Apple

This won't give you full peace of mind compare to Rooted.
Agree, If you are noob then should avoid from custom things and playing of different mods.
There is nothing wrong to have rooted Note with rest of completely stock.
Here are some must reason to root (for me)
- Backup you are creating is just additional data, you can get it again once you have application installed on device. And this data is having rare chance to get delete. even you format(hard reset) this data still survives. Only thing which is better to have is backup of Camera (DCMI folder) which you can't get(here folder sync really need). But i do save it on ext memory card, so in case of anything goe wrong still it will escape.
Now if you are rooted, then you can schedule your backup tottaly different way. Like my system stuff backup will start three days of weeks at 4AM, which backup my contacts, SMSs or watever sytem data.
And rest of three days it backup all newer installed application + data (here you will get app + setting, after restoring even you don't need to enter credential, OR won't lose levels you have completed in games)
- What I need is google Maps, In my country still google don't providing me navigation (just direction), but with moded Map I can get it. And yes root is needed for that.
-Remove lots of bloatware from stock system
-Stoping unnecessary auto starting application on boot.
Reagarding warranty, anytime you can just flash stock ROM with PC Odin and your root will erase and you get warranty back
As of the Official Update of Jelly Bean 4.3 has been started to Rolling out, the users who have installed started using it. So if you find any bug pls report here so Others can be saved.
As far am using it more than 24 hrs,
- Touchwiz is still bit laggy
- Few app including XDA app is getting FC
- Ram usage is high
- Battery is same

Is it worth the update or should I wait?
Stock browser with quick controls and full screen enabled doesn't hide the nav bar properly... A bug since first leak.
4.3 Consumes 1.3gb to 1.7gb ram never lower than 1gb. Same in s4. I prefer 4.1.2 its faster

Its better u can wait or Flash DN3 Rom.. but i can say this update is stable than S3 update.. less bugs..
The autobrightness is really bad
Even if I am setting it at +5 its really dim indoors as compared to 4.1.2
Really any idea how to fix it
Am I alone facing this issue
The "HealthService" starts, but I dont have the S Health app, and dont know why this service starts after reboot of the phone.
any one else with this?

With about 90 apps installed, of which BBM, WhatsApp, Vonage, LBE Security Master, Greenify, CSipSimple, Google+ and KeepScreenOn run all the time in addition to the usual stuff like TW, Messaging, GMS that runs with Android, My RAM usage with MK4 is 784MB. I don't find any lag in TW or in any of the games I play (except Ingress, of course - but that is an app issue).
I of course have rooted, disabled a bunch of stuff from loading automatically at boot, and frozen Sammy crap that I don't want or use. And no Knox.
XDA App is working perfectly fine, deep sleep seems to pretty good - lost 1% overnight after 2 recharge cycles. Auto Brightness is cranky at times - sometime stuck at lowest or brightest - but returns back to sanity after a display off-on.
Overall there is nothing new or extraordinary in the MK4 version from what we have seen in the leaks - except of course the knox status in the bootloader (I didnt care about it as am out of warranty anyways).
Haven't tried the stock browser with quick controls+full screen though, I rely on Chrome...
Xposed Framework with Wanam's module, per app dpi setting, message notification to toast, and then some more - all works great.

Can I ask, I just need some clarification: are you running a stock version or a custom ROM?
If it is the stock, which Open version are you using?

This is a stock ROM, the only changes being removing the Knox related apk and rooting. I'm not sure what you mean by open, can you explain on it?
Any of you having issues with official rom should join me in using DN3 custom rom for note 2 with a bunch of note 3 features and very few bugs.

I am running that ROM at the moment, and to be honest, as much as I love it, there is still the issue with the screen off when the phone is in use, And the leg you get upon finishing the call itself.
Apart from that, is a fantastic update.
Major update but with few bugs.
When installing an app from play store, the downloading process is smooth but just when the installation is about to complete there are frame drops for a second or two and it really annoys me as a heavy play store user.
Frame drops and touchwiz!!! Brother's for life!!!

I'm getting the odd FC, but it's very rare. I had to force a reboot twice since upgrading, but I've also been using my device like crazy and installing a lot of apps as i test this new firmware.
My only real gripe is that bringing up the multitasking list (long press home key)takes longer than before.

I upgraded to the INU ROM that got released - http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=21880 - that is open India I guess (and there is no other 4.3 official ROM released yet? At least that's what Sammobile says...)
Code:
Model: GT-N7100
Country: India
Version: Android 4.3
Changelist: 2099172
Build date: Sun, 10 Nov 2013 06:00:26 +0000
Product Code: INU
PDA: N7100XXUEMK4
CSC: N7100ODDEMK1
MODEM: N7100DDEMJ9
And yes, I voided my Knox bootloader warranty - because I bought the phone from Singapore and didnt have India warranty anyway. And the phone is more than a year old too...
I see a delay in the caller number or name getting displayed when someone calls me (ringtone sounds, but screen is blank), but then that's nothing that can't be fixed with a build.prop edit.
I dont have a lag anywhere, at least nothing I can find - I have made a few tweaks to the PegasusQ parameters though (reduced freq_step from the default 37% to 5% so that all the frequencies of the CPU are used, Set the cpu_up_rate to 12 and cpu_down_rate to 16, set the hot plug frequencies to 600-400, 800-600, 1000-800 and hot plug run queues to 175-175, 275-275 and 375-375, down_differential to 10, sampling_down_factor to 1 nd sampling_rate to 30000) based on my experience with earlier stock and non-stock kernel performance.
I'm overall happy about the update, though we could have been shown some more love from the S4 / Note3 devices
Clipboard options have been removed and multiwindow isn't working.

AH!And before i forget to ask:
1.WHY THE F''' DID GOOGLE ACTUALLY REMOVE 4.1.0 and 4.1.1 and 4.2.0 and 4.2.1 and 4.4.1 from the https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images nexus image site???? WHY DA F'''?????
2.The Air-Command Search-Feature has (been) f'ckin' removeed in the both new Galaxy Note Phones (=Note 4 and Note Edge), why?????
+
3.The Note 4 (i don't mean the Note Edge right now!) has such a (Samsung Calls it „BEAUTYFULL" curve on the Screen like the Galaxy S3.
But this is only good, when you've got a Case that has edges that go further front than the Screen Surface itself because maybe thicker glass is more resistant but if the Phone's got to suffer a Face-Off drop then the S2 would beat all S3+S3 Mini Models!
ALL THE MISSING NOTE 4 +Edge FEATURES:
So that's what is missing on the best Smartphone in the entire World:

>Non-Kitkat Android (such as like 4.3.1.)

>64GB of PURE IntMem
>Cine4k (@2160p) (4096x2160 Pixles). But the maximum recording resulotion is just UHD (=only 3840 times 2160 Pixels!)
>Ok,good the 4xS3 QHDResolution display is no problem. On the Note 6 and the S7 (Not NO1.S7 Galaxy S5 Replica Fake but the GALAXY S7!) i do expect a 4xS4 (UHD) Resultion Display!

>Even in thhis case i forgot what! DAMN!
>Another missin' Sensor!
>I miss a 64 or 128 GB Version.
>Where is that Brightness Sensor?
Another thing: WHY DID SAMSUNG EXCLUDE THE FM RADIO SINCE THE S4?
the S4 Mini still has UKW!
And then there's something that i forgot to say about.
But two another questions:
1.Screen Recording with Unblocked bôôtloader on a Nexus (device) is only possible with the WugFresh Toolkit and only since the first REALLY Cr4ppý version of Android.
(4.2.* causes many performance and Battery problems and is only (r4ppý and not véry (really)[r4pp´ý!
Now the Question is: Is there Actually a way to Record a screen with Jelly Bean 4.3.1 or Lower?
2.Deleting even app data since Android 4.4 KitKat: I HATE THAT S***!!!!!
(Example: When you Record and take some photos with CameraMX and afterthat you do uninstalling CamMX, then the Recordings stay until 4.3(.1) but since [email protected] EVEN THE RECORDINGS AND THE PHOTOS OF THIS APP GET DAM'NIN DELETED!!!!! CRÀÀÀÀÀ·ÀÀÀP!)

I wish that the ScrVideoRecording feature and the Camera Button on the lock screen were there in Jelly Bean.
They attract anybody with „new features" to trap in this horrbile update!
Three very big disadvantages:
1.-The Stock File Explorer (not ES.File·Exp) WIPES (=safe-deletes) the Files instead of deleting!
·Ressource+Battery Waste
·File is not recoverable anymore
2.·Uninstalling User Applications will even delete it's user storage data! Not only root data.·.
·Uninstalling App on lower than KitKat= Deleting App+Root Data
·On KitKat Deleting App+Root Data+even User Data on Non-Root-Storage! (like Phoro+Video Recordings of external camera apps like CameraZoomFX or CameraMX.)
3.External file explorers canonly

And the Stock (not ES) file Manager WIPES the file since 4.4.+ [email protected], if you choose „delete", even the camera does.

I took the jump to Android from Windows Phone and I really liked the S7 Edge form factor and looks however it is just too buggy and has hardware problems so I think I might have to try an iPhone (scary). Here are my list of problems with the S7 Edge:
SD card problems - known issue HW rev problems - nag screen as well as lost apps installed on the SD card
Random reboots - many a day
Thumbprint recognition - seems like it takes me 3-4 thumbprints every time - why?
English Language Pack storage bug - eats all my space - it keeps coming back even if disabled - 2nd time ran out of space on the phone - 16-18GB footprint for this - why? what does this app do?
WIPES MY PHONES - this has happened TWICE - this is the deal breaker - I even turned on 'avoid turning on while in pocket' - doesn't matter when i go for hikes or ski in the cold maybe - it WIPES MY ENTIRE PHONE - not good
bugs with texting and message+ - seem like the phone freezes when texting - can't finish typing - message+ crashes - this is major pain
Lots of apps crashing randomly - not sure why
I really want to make this phone work but the WIPING of the DEVICE twice for me means full day of lost productivity for my traveling job. I can't be rebuilding my phone every few weeks. Is this acceptable for Samsung's flagship phone? I am open and patient to technology and not biased one way or the other (I do miss some features on my Windows Phone).
I think if You are having that many issues with your S7 Edge then you Should return it! Just because this is an Android forum doesn't have to mean going to an iPhone is scary. I live in both the Android and iPhone world and it's a-ok! Now a non-jailbroken iPhone can be much more limiting than a stock Android device but it is still a nice phone and works well out of the box. Maybe you should just return your phone as a defective one or look at the apps your are installing to see if one or two or more are causing the conflicts and issues and reboots. I haven't experienced the problems that you have except reboots after installing the latest version of iHeart Radio (now using an older version and absol6no problems) and the Good Lock app from Samsung was rebooting my phone so I Uninstalled it right away.
My S7 Edge has to be one of the coolest and most beautiful phones I have ever owned. Out of the box it is very, very customizable and even without rooting still offers so many possibilities that I could never do with my iPhone straight out of the box. There are alternatives to try out for the apps that you are currently using and where you might end up liking even more than your current favorites (I suggest trying Yaata text messaging app. Works very well! There's a discussion thread here on XDA-DEVELOPERS too). Good luck with your decision.

This really seems like a bad piece you should replace, and you will be probably fine. I havent encountered any problems aside of one SD card dying unexpectedly (probably faulty SD tho), and the poor palm rejection when typipng with one hand/upside down (this has however been largely fixed by the latest update). Otherwise, no problems at all.

Thanks burrzoo. This is my first Android so maybe I had high expectations or maybe I just got a bad one. I am patient and understand bugs, random oddities since I have only owned Windows Phones up until this point if that tells you about device/HW patience, hacked many ROMs here, etc. so I like the extensibility of the Android platform as a replacement but I guess the Verizon S7 is locked so no custom ROMs? I will say however none of those Windows phones every wiped my phone like the S7 did twice.
As far as installed apps I have really basic apps - Office, Outlook, social apps. Nothing special really. The English Language Pack is an Android installed app that comes with the S7 so there is no way to remove it apparently. I did disable a lot of the default Google, Samsung and Android apps since i don't use them. Maybe i have to leave it more stock to avoid problems? I dunno - if you guys can help me explain the WIPING of my device or HOW to prevent this that would go a long way.

Jomari,
No, I have only owned Windows Phones. I am open to either platform as a replacement. I have never owned an iPhone either but if this is the first class android experience then I would say it hasn't been so great.
I did not experienced all those problems you mentioned, my S7E is buttery smooth.
Strange, I'm having none of these issues. I would suggest you might have a faulty model.
I'd say you have a defective device.

okay, thanks everyone. Looks like I am past the 14 days return policy and Samsung warranty won't swap hardware. Any thoughts on what I can do to get a new device? Samsung offered for me to send in the device and they can evaluate it and replace faulty HW - should i do that?
I did find two things in my searches for some of my issues:
1) There is an 'Auto-Factory Reset' device option set to ON on the S7 Edge under 'Lock Screen and security' > 'Secure lock settings' > 'Auto-factory reset' on/off toggle. I think this may be the main problem on the device I am trying to solve. On my Verizon device the checkbox is greyed out. Can you guys disable auto-wipe on your devices? The question becomes how is it auto-factory reset in my pocket when i have 'detect device in pocket' and i have locked screen. Is it flipping on somehow with movement? Why would they not have a 'are you sure you want to factory/reset?' if this is accidental?
2) On a fun note - I think I found an Android easter egg or maybe not? on 6.0.1 when I was trying to enable dev unlock (not sure if it is documented) - you can play an Android Flappy bird game:
Go to Settings > About Phone > Android Version 6.0.1 and then click it about 5 times in succession rapidly - it unlocks an Android Flappy Bird mini-game - LOL
I can confirm that on AT&T variant you can toggle the Auto-Factory Reset.

My fingerprint works great.
This is problem the only phone i have had tht doesnt turn on in my pocket.
Also dont know why your phone i wiping itself.
Never had that happen with any phone.
There is an option for wiping the phone if the lock screen password is wrong 5 times in a roll.
I onlynuse the default messging app but never had a problem with slow typing.
16gb for language is very off.
The whole system setup is only around 9gb.
So if you think andriod is crap then move on.
If you wanna try ios then do so.
But i can say that it sounds like your phone is broken

Man, people get so sensitive about their platforms. Yes, I am talking about the new Samsung S7 Edge on Verizon yes. How am I trolling exactly? These are honest problems I am having - is it not possible to have problems with a new device? I guess folks figure if I point out problems than I am trolling. Not sure how I have to prove this are legit.
On a positive note, I think I did find some root causes on my own recently like the 'Auto-factory reset' setting which is why my device is wiping itself however I can't disable it on Verizon for some reason.
Not sure about the other problems - running out of space, etc. so I am welcome to feedback.

the numbers of problems u mentioned never faced alltogether in a single android phone for years.. not to mention the that the S7e is one the greatest phones i ever had except for rebooting which was fixed with software update.

I would be tempted to say this is a combination of OS confusion and faulty unit. Some of what you say has been experienced by others in the S7 Edge forums and some of what you said sounds a little like "it didn't do this on my Windows device". I'm not bashing you at all, I'm just saying that it may be something you come to understand with time.
I remember moving from Apple to Android many years back (I moved to the first original Galaxy S device). I felt like I'd made the biggest mistake of my life! I just didn't "get" it. Things that where simple on the iPhone suddenly had 2 or 3 different ways to complete the task on Android.
I would suggest firstly discussing the issues with Samsung or your provider and see if they are actual issues, or user confusion, then once confirmed, I guess you have a decision... stick with it and see how deep the rabbit hole goes, or return the device and decide Android isn't for you.

okay thanks for the fingerprint tips Ashoudy. I think I will send it back to Samsung and hopefully they send me a new device. Don't get me wrong - I really like the S7 and think it is well ahead of iPhone innovation wise. I got it pre-launch so maybe I just got a bad early device.
Some of these problems may not be hw related in my opinion: Factory resets, storage space problem but hopefully a newer device will fix these.
LOL at people in here saying "well mine's working fine", alright, and your point is what exactly?
It's pretty obvious that OP here has a lemon, and it should be returned. This isn't anything new though, and every manufacturer on the planet will have some of these in circulation for the first month or two. That's the price we pay for being early adopters. If you don't want to get a device with any surprises next time, I recommend you to wait for like 3 months before buying a device. Apple also had some issues with the iPhone 6 and 6S, like expected. Same with Sony, LG, HTC and Samsung. It's always a pain in the butt when it happens to you, but it's pretty much a gamble when you get a brand new device this early.
I have personally zero issues with my gold Edge (built on March 15), so this just shows how bad it can get for unlucky people like OP.
