A Galaxy Grand 2 which only run Android 4.3--G7108V - Galaxy Grand 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Maybe someone think that it is funny for a galaxy grand 2 which can only run Android 4.3 rather than Android 4.4 or higher version.
Don't be surprise= = It was a device customized by China Mobile with TD-LTE supported.
I don't know why Samsung don't provide system update for G7108V.But I believe that there are many G7108V user like me disere for new version of Android.
I know it's impossible for Samsung to provide new version of Android because G7108V is a low-profit product,it saled for about 1200CNY (about $200) now in China.
So I want to find out the way to get new version of Android.I know it must be a hard process. And I need some one to help me or tell me how to do?Maybe the first step is port the clockworkmod recovery to G7108V?
Sorry for my poor English.Thanks~

[Q] Help with rooting China Version Galaxy SM-N9006 N9006ZCUDMK2

Hey all!
So I finally rid myself of my Apple devices since their support bricked my iPad and refuses to fix it! I got myself a sweet Galaxy Note 3 and love it so far! My issue is that I'm currently living in China for work and my phone is the Chinese Version: SM-N9006 running Android 4.3 with build: J2215J.N9006ZCUDMK2. The AP/CP is N9006ZCUDMK2. I managed to get into the English Samsung app store via VPN and removing the sim card, however, I still cannot get any Google apps since I don't have Google Play installed.
The phone was purchased about a week ago and should be the most recent phone and software version.
Yes, I'm prolly by far the biggest noob in this forum and I'm pooping my pants to brick it somehow XD but well, there's a beginning for everything... I've been on Apple for very long and a bit overwhelmed with the Android platform. So far I've read a couple of sites, forums, discussions, etc. on the benefits of rooting the phone. I found a pretty good explanation on this site by michael1982t:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2495375&page=4
So I have a few questions and would greatly appreciate if someone would take the time and get back at me.
The instructions were writting in October 2013. How relevant are they? Are there any new versions or methods on how to root the Note 3?
Would you guys suggest that this is the way to do it?
In many forums I read about rooting the China Version Note 3 SM-N9006... however, it states that it is the N9006ZCUDMI2 or MI3 version... I have the -MK2 version. Is that a big deal? Will that cause me some kind of software conflict? I have no idea what this number stands for
I'm a bit worried about KNOX and not being able to get into the phone again. I have the activation service turned off and don't really care about the 1 year China-only warranty.
Once the phone is rooted, I then can install the US Platform on it that has all English Apps, Google Store, etc? So from what I understand I would format the phone and play the US platform on it? Or would I just tweak the apps, remove the unwanted Samsung bloatware and Chinese Apps? Would I need the official Android platform or are there any "better" platforms to use? I read something about flashed/roms or gingerbread OS that give much more flexibility and control as to using the phone and getting the most out of it.
I'm running Windows 7. Is Windows XP essential since it is described in the post? I wouldn't think so but I better ask.
From what I read, the only software I need to download to my pc are:
ODIN, CWM recovery and CF-AutoRoot - is that all? Or would someone recommend anything else.
Do I need Samsung Kies at all?
I hope perhaps someone has had the same phone and questions and got an answer or somehow figured it out. I greatly appreciate any help!
Cheers!!

g9006v S5 Help? (chinese version) install new roms or non-chinese android?

I just received the S5 as a present as my nexus 4 has been busted.
The phone was bought in China and the android version on here is garbage, well, I should say its ANTI-GOOGLE. Seriously. I have tried to install gmail and the play store, both are blocked (among others) I have read that apparently its part of the design to not allow Google access or products. (as a nexus user since nexus 1, google is a big part of my "cell phone life")
Simply, I am wondering if I can erase my current android version and put on a custom rom or another android that is not chinese based. I have looked on a few of the forums here and most roms either don't know if they support my version or if it is possible.
Any help would be great. (I haven't rooted my phone yet but I have no issue doing it)
Model number
SM-G9006V
Android version
4.4.2
Baseband version
G9006VZNU1ANF1
Kernal Version
3.4.0-1716152
Also received this device as a present.
And now I want the same thing, install custom rom or another android that is not chinese based. Because even in English language in every app some text in Chinese and it's not good.
I tried root my phone by using this manual, but it didn't work and I have a message: "This phone isn't currently supported".
This is a new model, that most here won't have any direct experience with. Not to mention you that you are asking about a Chinese language device in an English forum.
There is an existing support thread for this varient with details on a working root. That would be the most productive place to obtain details about alternative ROMs and so forth. It won't be hard to find the thread if you search for it.

Old newbie help!

Hi all,
It's been a long, long while since I tinkered with roms, I think my last one was either a Samsung Galaxy Tab (the original one!) or an HTC Sensation.
So I've recently acquired a Note 4 n910F and can't stand all of the Samsung bloatware, and I'd like a newer version of android for compatibility with newer apps.
So remind me... What does 'stock' mean? Is this as Samsung intended, or as android intended? I'd just like a vanilla as possible android experience that works well.
Help please!

Hey! I don't know if you've already found your answers but I thought I would respond in case you haven't.
In almost every reference you see in this section of xda "stock" is referring to the TouchWiz OS that Samsung phones are shipped with.
True android stock is referred to as "vanilla" like you said.
I use a different model Note 4 than you have but from what I've read it's fairly easy to flash TWRP (custom recovery) on the F model via Odin and from there you can pick from whichever rom suits you. Just be sure you're in the Snapdragon section. There are many different models of the Note 4 and some of them have a different processor called Exynos. The roms are processor specific and you can only use the ones built for your type which is the Snapdragon processor.
One other thing I wound suggest, because of the different variants of the F model, is to take notice of your CSC code. Once you start flashing other roms it may be hard to track down the original code. Use this app to see what it is and that way you can flash the appropriate modem file (or if you need to reflash your stock firmware) instead of just using whichever modem file is provided in the OP of the rom you're flashing. There are many different variants of the F model with many different country codes, just remember that just because the firmware has a newer release date doesn't mean it's the correct version.
TWRP- Found here
Samsung USB drivers for Windows. Needed to connect your phone to your PC- Found here
Odin download- Found here
Development section for Snapdragon- Found here
Fantastic response, thank you. I think I'd like to do without TouchWiz... Pretty much all of my previous phones have been HTC, which either had the HTC skin over it, which was fairly unobtrusive, or barely anything at all. The current version of android and TW on the note 4 is messy.

Is there lollipop available for Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 SM-T231

hi.
i have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 SM-T231 8GB, Wi-Fi + 4G UK tablet. it is routed and has no sim lock.
it works fine for phone calls. and general activity BUT its on kitkat 4.4.2
i dont use mobile devices much but one thing i do use them for is discord video to test that my stream is acceptable.
the discord i was able to install from apk mirror does not have video support in voice channels.
So i want to update to lolipop.
I have checked the internet and its quite a mix of info.
i have found that some of these tablets did get a update to lolipop in other countries.
others only recived them if they had a specific version..
so i dont want to update and lose my phone call ability or possibly worse.
So i figured i would check with the good people here first.
this is a 7 inch sm-t231 galaxy tab 4, from the uk currently running a 3 sim. (but is its unlocked)
is there an actual path to update it to update it to lolipop or am i just out of luck?
[ROM] [KK] [SM-T231/T230/NU] + Android 5.0 Lollipop Material Design -{Theme}-
Read this thread carefully !! ROM only for Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 Inch This ROM made to give your device full Android Lollipop look (Theme) lol After installing this ROM all you can see is just kitkat theme every where like a kitkat 4.4 ROM but...
forum.xda-developers.com
think thats just a theme. wont help with functionality of the apps that can be installed will it?
also
this quote from the dev makes me think il lose my phone:
i am sorry for all the users that used my ROMs
all my ROMs not detect SIM card at all
What you want is to move from Android 4 to Android 5: that means you want to upgrade existing Android to a higher version what de facto is a complete replacement of Android OS.
yes thats is what i asked..
and you linked a kitkat 4.4 theme, not a actual lolipop rom.
and it also does not support sim cards.. "which was stated as a needed feature"
so what you linked is not at all what is needed.
but still thank you for your time.
i had already searched for and read that entire thread the other day.
i will just assume that it does not exist and carry on using 4.4.2

Got a phone from a foreign country.

Hi, so I got an AT&T Galaxy S10+ (SM-G975U) from the US and it was stuck at Android 10. I can't get any updates so I tried to flash a new firmware into my phone. The problem is, SamMobile doesn't provide AT&T firmwares for SM-G975U but other carriers like T-Mobile and Verizon is available. Can I use firmwares from other carriers for my AT&T phone?
Yes
I need help i own a S10 plus model SM-G975U AT&T variant, it runs android 10 with UI ver 2.5 I cant update the phone through its update options located in settings. I see new Android 12 Update have been released i want to update my phone can someone please tellme what CSC to use ? What PDA to use ? exactly which version of firmware should i install ? i know i am asking like a noob but please i really need some expert advise. P.S i dont know if my phone is unlocked or not ... how to check that either ? Moreover Expert Opinons be communicated to my email address which is: [email protected]
I would advise anyone looking to update not to update beyond Android 11. Android 12 has issues and not just on Samsung devices. You can download Android 11 for all US Variants here.
