Was told to post here. Flex not accepting Sim, radio off... - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A friend of mine gave me a flex to fix.. At first, it was rooted and had a custom ROM on it. Something from mii.com. anyway. The only version it would accept is d955 so I put that on it. Imei and baseband were unknown so I put d950 on it somehow. Now, the imei and baseband are showing but it still will not accept a Sim.*I've even tried editing build prop operator to OPEN... Nothing. I'm losing hope...When I put a Sim in, it doesn't detect and the radio says service state: radio off. When I pull the Sim out, it tells me to put a valid Sim in...
What can I do?

So someone from the flex section told you to post in the g2 section? Then yes you are dumb, what do we g2 users know about the flex and its roms? Nothing, stick to the flex section.

Let's pretend for a moment I'm asking about a g2 with the same problems. What would you tell me?

Try flashing a different modem, but backup the original one just in case.

Can you kindly tell me how and where to get the modems? I've searched but with no luck.

Seems like the gflex section is lacking any backed up modem's so can't help you there. Was the efs partition ever backed up before flashing the first rom?

I doubt it. I didn't flash the first one. My friend did, and it was a foreign ROM I've never heard of.

No, all you want is to be spoon fed. That's why you made 40 posts on the same topic and you're still stuck. You don't want to help yourself, you treat this place like a tech support centre and you give people attitude above it all.
Let me make one thing clear. No one has to help you. If you think you can just come here and get the geeks to do your homework for you then you're dreaming. Search, read and be respectful and then even the devs might help you.
 @peachpuff I admire your patience.

If you think I've been having an attitude i apologize, but I categorize myself as a geek as well so it's a little offensive. Anyway, I'm a little new to all of this - I've made TWO threads because the first was going no where quickly. I don't wanna be spoonfed, I just want help - I can't find the modem files for the Flex anywhere - I've tried flashing a lot. A lot. I've gotten far thanks to all the help from you guys which I am very thankful for. I apologize, I'm just frustrated...been trying to get this thing to work for over a month now....any help is always appreciated. I plan on donating (if possible) to who ever helps once its fixed.
Thanks..

I don't think you need a modem. Your phone is locked to at&t. There are services that unlock them like this. It'll be good if you can try someone else's at&t sim first. But that's what I think since your phone works properly except for your sim problem

Have tried, my friend has tried his straight talk Sim which he said runs off of att? Is that true? Is the entire reason the radio is off because its network locked? If it were true, wouldn't it say out of service, not radio off????

To the OP just put in a sim card other than one that its locked to, turn it on and it'll ask you for your unlock code.

Dude... dont blame me man, I just googled for someone who can't be arsed.
Anyway, when people asks about unlocking they usually refer to 'network unlock', perhaps if the OP wants to know about unlocking his/her locked sim from the handset, he/she should of made it a little more clearly, right?
i did it on my x10a so im not sure if its the same for x10i
insert a sim card from another network
a screen will show up asking you to punch in a code
keep tapping on the blank space where you are suppose to enter the code until a keypad comes up
enter in your unlock code

well if you read it properly you would discover that he did indeed ask how to remove the network lock using a code he bought and also that the instructions you gave were about as much use as tits on a bull because they are clearly not for the x10 (how for example are you supposed to press the joystick left when there isnt one?)

Considering the abuse I'm getting, it ain't worth it.
OK. The help I tried posting turned out to be incorrect. Happy?
Would it of been too hard for who-ever notices the blunder and corrected me? I thought this is a "developer's forum" maybe I'll return to HoFo... seems much friendlier there, even with all the noobs.
I'm wondering, did anyone ever consider the possibility here? Cause prior to posting, I read the instructions and the little box under it then thought that's a possibility; considering there are up and down keys (volume). I can't test it, since my cell arrive stock without network locks or branding.

Maybe you're not asking the right way. How about "Is there anybody at Sprint at isn't a complete f&%^head?"
That should get people interested in helping you out.
As long as I'm here, can you be more specific about the nature of your question? There are employees...and then there are customer care reps. Only one of these groups can access your account info.

You come to a dev forum of a phone looking for assistance with sprint. This is not the place to do that. If you have an issue with the advice we may be able to offer device but any customer care and or network related issue cant be resolved here and its kind of ridiculous to think so.
you do know the sprint has forums of their own if you wanted to demand assistance...coming here and demanding someone 'from' sprint to tend to your need is a pretty ***** move if you ask me.....especially without giving any information about your problem....

[Q] Root Block: Intentional or Bug?

Cyanogen is saying its a bug. Tmo is saying its a feature. which one is correct?
If it is indeed a bug how would tmo go about fixing our phones? mass recall? sweep under the rug?
If its a feature, is it a precursor to what future phones will be?
Either outcome isnt very good for the consumer and may lead to lots of lost customers for tmo. Specially after tmo releasing a statement that its a feature of the phone.
I love this phone, the very first smartphone i ever had, and was really looking forward to hacking around with it but its hard to justify such a device that locks you out of such features. I hope cyanogen and all the other great devs work out a solution to this problem. I dont want to send it back.

People are being jerks for sure, but OP, you should search better cuz your question has been answered in several threads. The short of it is NO. It is not a bug in the sense you are thinking. It is an intentional bug which tricks linux (android os) into thinking writes to the system files during root are being made when in actuality, the writes are only being written to cache. Once the cache is cleared during reboot the root access is erased because it wasn't actually written to the system in the first place. It's not a bug that needs to be fixed. It's a bug that was placed there to fool the system and make permanent root more...challenging.

There is a very informational Wiki out. Check it out. It will get you up to date with all the work that has been done towards root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_G2
The important part of the question.. for me.. is whether the Z has the same bugFeature.
I see one random user saying that they flashed a G2 rom on a Desire Z and nothing more. Have I missed something? Kinda hard to say yay or nay based solely on that.
"Intentional Bug" ????
If it's intentional, it's NOT a bug.

Thank you XfooYen for the info. I did a quick search before I posted(the posting page even searches similar post before you publish them) and found nothing similar. I will make sure to search more thoroughly next time.
I am familiar with the current situation with root, I just though that if a well known developer like cyanogen thinks that its a bug that maybe the readers of xda might want to discuss his possible ratonale for such a statement, then again that may not have been what he was trying to say and got it misrepresented by the media. Instead I saw nothing but irrelevent and pointless posts. For a second I thought this was gizmodo or engadget.
Thank you again. Its good to know that xda has readers who actually know what they are talking about and not just the average troll.

Turn off phone, take out att sim and insert other carrier sim.. Power on and input unlock code.. It should work. I'm visiting Hong Kong and I couldn't get it to work at first but after chatting with att, they told me to do this.. Don't remove battery. Power off and switch sims

Cellunlocker.net has a system to reset sim code deactivation, but from what I have seen it isn't working for people that lost ability to unlock because of the "free unlock" method. You could still contact them and ask about it. It does cost a little extra.

There are three things wrong with your inferior attempt at an insult:
1. WTF is there to read? This thread just started its second page, so telling me that I am not reading first is stupid on your part.
2. I have zero issues with this method. I cannot speak for anyone else who doesn't know what they are doing.
3. I am pretty sure you have never seen a cow fly, or a pig file taxes, or in your case how people like yourself end up when treating the wrong person with disrespect.
Try being considerate when posting. If it doesn't have anything to do with fixing the OP's issue, don't post ridiculous crap. If you were trying to hurt my feelings, you didn't.

[Q] First Timer Requesting Assistance

Thank you for this website and all the helpful information it provides. I was a long time apple user and was fed up with the ios so jumped on the bandwagon of android.
I rooted my phone it it a Telus i337M with the OTA update on it.
My question is what would the best stock to put on? I know it is a vague question ive been trying to do some research but i dont see anything that says it is compatible with the update that recently came out and I am a but nervous proceeding without expert advise. I like to have more battery life.
Id like to get rid of the bloatware as most probably do and TrulyClean 1.6 seems to be the choice. The installation is what baffles me.
If there is any information that i am missing that should be provided I have no problems with that.
Thank you again to who ever replies for your time. once i get the hang of this ill be happy to offer help to others who are in my shoes.
Too bad it your first post, best threads are frowned upon. Just try a couple of different roms and see what you like. Didn't people like different things. I've heard vision x is good.

Read the "pinned" threads in the general and Q & A sections. In them, you will find a list of available ROMs. Read the OPs of each ROM thread to see what they have to offer.
