Been searching for a long time and cant seem to find any info for this model
I need to return the device to the store and thus need it fully stock again
I found the stock ROMs for the device but no info on recovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2778374)
Will restoring the stock ROM restore the recovery and remove root as well which is what I want.
Thanks

Yes Odin flashing back to stock restores the stock recovery and removes root. However the thread you linked to has out of date firmware builds. For download links for the most recent firmware Odin files, use this thread make sure to download the one with your model number and region.

Out of curiosity, will running any of these tar's through odin fix a soft-brick ? I created a thread a few moments ago without looking first (my apologies, my mind's between programming and everything else it could possibly be on). Of course, I grabbed the NE2 file from Shine's thread.....
It might help to mention I have a SM-T230NU Galaxy Tab 4 7'....Im just trying to get the tablet restored, without having to send it into samsung.

Yes flashing the stock firmware through Odin fixes a soft-brick, that's more or less their main raison d'ĂȘtre (they also help the devs make roms). I would strongly recommend grabbing the newer firmware build (OC1) from my thread, it's from this year whereas NE2 is last year.
Thank you, its downloading as we speak

Saved me time from sending in my tablet to Samsung (a lot of time). I'm not exactly sure how I managed to soft brick, but it is rooted and did have TWRP on it. Maybe, that's where the problem lies. Anyhow, I appreciate your quick response.

So, I just got home not to long ago and was pretty stoked about finally fixing my tablet.....I dont think it worked or it sure as hell takes forever to finally boot up after the odin process. Odin is showing me that it passed, and in my book that means it worked (I also used E2, and not 01 (so maybe that's the culprit, anyhow here's a screen)) It's been on the white samsung logo for atleast 2-3 minutes, maybe more....

I've seen it take more than five minutes to boot successfully after an Odin flash, did it end up working? Also might've been a bad download...

Can you get the tab into download mode? i.e. switch off completely; then power on whilst holding the volume down button.
If you can then you can use Odin and the instructions in the Overcome ROM Install Guide to flash the tab back to stock

One other thing I forgot to put in my previous post was a link to this thread about unbricking...
the one-click unbrick managed to get it back to the download screen, but i think i still need to reinstall the firmware, and i cant seem to find the i987 firmware anywhere, just the p1000. nevermind the fact i dont know how to use Odin to reinstall anyway
you just need to download odin and get a stock rom to flash and you'll get out of this problem
where can i find a stock rom? all the links ive found so far are down. do i need a pit file (actually...what is a pit file vs the tar file?)

You are not in a bad spot yet. Just don't put something one the device if it wasn't made for it.

Desperation combined with panic will hard brick a device. Calm questions (rational thinking ) and organization on your part will get it to the point of ur desire

...I read this post 5 times trying to figure out exactly what you want to do, or even think you can do! Honestly if you don't know anything about rooting then this particular phone will end up as a brick. The bootloader is locked on AT&T S4. No way around it unless you are NOT on MF3 or later... Is your phone actually rooted?? You can't reset the counter anyway.

The recovery that works with Safestrap is TWRP. And depending on which firmware you just flashed it will either be version that is specific for that firmware. Do you have Safestrap installed yet?

It should have booted past that screen before waiting the ten minutes. Can you still get in Safestrap? Sometimes you can have a bad download. Try one of the mirrors for the rom link and download again. Or you can try to wipe and flash it again. I had problems with hyperdrive when i tried using it. (Some roms just don't work on some people's phone). Can you try another rom like. Deadly Venom or Google Play? Seems most people have fewer problems getting those installed.

Your best option, and proven to work would be to just reflash your current firmware or downgrade back to MK2. Then root it easily with Saferoot. Then Safestrap it, which comes with TWRP recovery. Once that is done you can either restore a backup of the rom... if you have one on the SD card. Or download the rom again for the firmware you are on.
That's what I would do, (have done) when that happened. None of which is very hard to do either. So... what firmware are you on?
---------- Post added at 09:41 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:32 AM ----------
I really wouldn't know how to correctly walk you through with installing Safestrap through ADB because because of the different way it mounts.

Since the upgrade from Lollipop to 6 my verizon Samsung S5 was slower with lag but still bearable. However after today's security patch its so slow it's almost unusable. How can I force it back to Lollipop?
I know almost nothing about rooting/JB but willing to learn something new as long I don't brick it. I just don't understand the terms and risks and process. Where do I start?

It's impressive that on so many forums everywhere people decide they need to only give their own opinion of situations instead of answering original poster's questions.
While I'm also skeptical that an official update would be the cause such a massive slowdown on his phone, that's not really what he asked to be addressed, even if the answer may be obvious to some.

Unfortunately as your S5 has the Toshiba chipset (emmc of 11) there is no way to downgrade the firmware to Lollipop or KitKat. The bootloader is locked. You are out of luck unless you or someone else figures out an exploit.
You can start here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...t/rd-unlocking-galaxys-s5-bootloader-t3337909 This explains in a good bit of depth the current status of Verizon S5 bootloaders.
Other than that, just start searching and googling. It's probable that someone else has a similar issue as you. And like Rumsfield said, it's highly unlikely that an official update (which is what it sounds like you have) would be the cause of such a dramatic change in your phone's speed, so it would be worthwhile to investigate further. Have you deleted your dalvik/cache in the recovery? Have you done a hard reset? These are things you have to do before you blame the firmware, and if you have done already, it's a good idea to mention that in your original post so that you avoid unnecessary responses.
Good luck!

I have a very uneducated question to ask, don't or do The FOTA logs in the recovery menu contain all check values and patch notes old - new? Again bare with my lack of knowledge on this topic but if pushed ota and still in log can it be pulled although maybe enough info alone in log for aboot and other values as far a checks but can it be modified even with filler as what it looks like on a battery self check and re injected through command as OTA? Last question before I'm stone to death for being the forum idiot here...if something is odexed and after the patch now labeled an 8 digit number kinda like Cid or emmc or whatever the long as chipset number for instance has the another value as an I'd in the middle of it can it inturn be reversed so parameters are matched and verified and possibly editited? Thanks

Oh. Forgot to ask I didn't see a check after the
command: "/sbin/recovery" "--update_package=/cache/fota/update.zip" "--carry_out=open_fota" "--locale=en_us"
Is that a forced allowable command? The real last question and believe me I have searched threads with no luck but the mention of a dev phone and aboot.mdn
Is the recovery file system table
0/boot emmc/dev/block/platform/msm_sscc.1/by-name/boot (/dev/block/mmcblk0p15) 0
1/ ect...
2/ect..
If the 0 is a 1 would that turn any phone into dev phone or allowable options
And noticed the checks were against the chipset and matching verizon fw although att and tmo had 0 values if values were 1''s would that allow you to you the right matching chipset for att and it's fw tmo ect.. or even the 15mmc instead of the 11?

Huh? I was just asking a question? New account? Must have me mistaken sir. I was curious about this phone what options there were after the update to gain root access I have never chimed in as I was trying to read all past and present post on this topic kind of gets a little confusing one would think outdated post and procedures would be deleted or timestamped to where if the method dosent work anymore why have it up unless only as a reference. But thank you sir for no guidance or help at all.
After marshmallow update I am no longer able to view any logs in the recovery menu.

You were asking a question that was very convoluted from a "new" account, turns out you created it like 3 years ago and never posted. You quoted my response to someone else asking your question which to me made no sense, hence my weird response to you. I still don't understand why you are posting in this thread with that question unless you are trolling.

Ok so first your warranty is void (gone) also make sure you backup your phone like photos etc take screenshots of needed text messages also your phone has an 11 CID (I sadly have one to) Like you mentioned which is not unlockable so we have to go back to Lollipop to root and what do you get with root you get the ability to flash custom Touchwiz based roms anything aosp/cm/linage wont work because our bootloader is locked and there is no current exploit to unlock them there is alot of Touchwiz based roms available I added screen shots on how my S5 looks I'm running Alliance rom I have added the themes from an older version of Alliance rom and added Viper4arise Viper4arise is a really cool sound mod it gives you increddible sound there is also xposed framework now if your interested in rooting download the drivers http://developer.samsung.com/galaxy/others/android-usb-driver-for-windows extract the zip and run the exe then download odin from https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=673368273298975100 extract the zip and run odin now power off your phone and hold Volume Down + Home + Power then click Volume Up To Accept then plug your phone into your computer make sure it shows Up in Blue in the top left in Odin Should say something like "COM" now download https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=673368273298975100 that is your lollipop tar.md5 download that and extract the zip now click AP in odin and select that tar.md5 you extracted from the zip odin might freeze but its verifying the file once its verified click start this Should downgrade the phone now you might have to pull the battery if the phone wont boot afterwards (stuck on Red Verizon Screen) and boot into recovery by powering off the device (Pull the battery) and then Holding Volume UP + Home + Power untill you see "Recovery booting" in the top left now use the Volume buttons to scroll and power to select go Down to Wipe Data / Factory Reset and click power button once its highlighted now use Volume buttons to go Down to Yes and click Power to select it when it is finished click power when Reboot now is highlighted now root the phone using this guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve.../testers-required-easier-root-method-t3561529 or this one https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/root-method-og5-ok3-t3290370 if you ever need help you can Private Message me on XDA.
You can even go back to kitKat and safestrap will work But you have to root 5.0 First here is a guide I made https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...al/how-to-install-kitkat-lolipop-pb1-t3589151

What are you using for recovery? I have two S5's now running

understandable. no i usually have not ran into many problems before. as it has been years since i messed with these phones and decided to mess with them again alot has changed i updated one of them and was looking for a way back being it has the 11xxx toshiba chip. as far as replying to quote i have never posted before i just thought i was replying to thread or whatever but just glad i received a response lol. i was just curious i was looking in the recovery menu at the logs from the FOTA update that i accidentally accepted. noticed they were very detailed which i thought was unusual. Again very very detailed like source code or whatever the raw format is called and was curious if it could be pulled with an adb command. the second part was a shell script whatever excuse my ignorance when it comes to this but after they were ran they were checked/verified or whatever and showed values that must have been met, which lead me to ask about is there a way to use adb to unlock the boatloader as an update.zip? thanks
hey everyone, so ive always at some point when time permitted ended up rooting and putting a custom rom on my phone. So im fairly familiar with unlocking boot loaders and rooting phones and so i started with my sm-g935v. Its terribly laggy and I just threw Oreo on my 2nd device a nexus 6 and its super fast. The lag is killing me. First i knew i had to root so I found a method using Odin flashing a CF root. Boom now when it boots it shows an unlocked lock and says custom. Great, moving on to installing a customer recovery like twrp im finding out no you cant because the bootloader is locked? is this true? is that icon just an indication i modified the system that and thats it. Anyway, reading more seems like this engineering root caused it to be even more laggy and if i turn on wifi forget it, super laggy.
I see some people doing modified stock roms that debloat but are still plague with lag from the root? Does this all add up correctly? Am i able to undo this CF root and just flash stock vzw back so it doesnt show custom when it boots? I was thinking of just trashing it and getting a pixel 2 but i like tinkering and definitely cant handle not finishing a job. This would be my first failed attempt at putting a custom rom on a phone.
TLDR: is it still true to this day i can only root but not unlock bootloader, install custom recovery and put say lineageos on my sm-935v ? the feels man...
Yeah, it's very locked down. We can't unlock the bootloader and we can't root without lag...
Hey guys. First post. Be nice. ?
I AM NOT A DEVELOPER. I FOUND THIS BY ACCIDENT.
I hated how my S7 Edge G935V worked with the engboot. So I stopped using the phone. Figured I'd play around with again and flashed the G935U firmware. After that I rooted by flashing the engboot thinking it may be smoother than on the g935v firmware. Obviously, I was disappointed. In a last ditch desperate attempt I flashed the stock BL file from the G935U firmware and lo and behold, it worked. I have NO LAG AND ROOT!
EDIT
When I flashed the BL file I checked "phone bootloader update" on Odin.

I am on this rom right now: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...sungpay-norootrequiredtoinstallorrun-t3748717
It is unrooted until you want to make changes, you apply root, make changes, and turn off root and you can continue using apps that won't work with root. Plus you don't get the root lag because you won't be on root all the time.
I will miss custom roms, but this is a great alternative.

Correct me if I'm wrong. I believe the lag is from the eng boot, not root access. Correct? If so, who cares if you can root and unroot?

I have used the firmware files from this post on xda.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/at...7-0-g935uoym4bqd2-4-11-17-g935u-t3616834/amp/
Download G935U ODIN Firmware
Thanks @MafiaIlluminati
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=745425885120745969
I used PrinceComsys Odin.
Download Link.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1AQuCcQ3MFskTc4yj_WODUYsZ1DGdHaKT/view?usp=drivesdk
1. I flashed my g935v with these firmware files. (I was already rooted with ENGBOOT so I checked "Phone Bootloader Update" in odin).
2. After that, I flashed the engboot.
Engboot Download
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1neJqdeOaxWklBgREfzoh6NVroa_I6mTl/view?usp=drivesdk
3. Then I rooted. Download the file below.
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=889764386195909311
Then follow this method from @jrkruse. (Just the root part).
https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-s7-edge/how-to/root-method-nougat-t3566978
4. Then I flashed the BL file in the BL slot from the g935u firmware with odin and checked "Phone Bootloader Update"
Congratulations! You are ROOTED WITH NO LAG!
I would love to see reports from others who were able to do this successfully, and what their experience is like afterward.

Somebody on another thread is testing. He made a mistake last night as I guess I wasn't clear in my instructions. I think he will give it another go.
I have been using this this phone for 2 days and it is AWESOME! updated all stock apps to s8 apps, deodexed with lucky patcher, installed xposed, and gravity box works beautifully. All will absolutely NO LAG! Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

I have done this as well and it works fine but I am getting conflicted speed tests. I am going to try some different CPU configurations to see if I can't get it running smoother. I really do think @ars18 is on to something here.
These were some of my first results but we are messaging back and forth to make sure the directions i was able to follow and that i am not messing anything up. I am a simple man and not as smart as most you ?.
I've just flashed back to stock and set my phone how I wanted it because of the lag from the ENG boot.img...now I find this and I'm tempted to wipe/redo everything... Subscribed to this thread so I can read more thoroughly when I get to work on Monday.
After new BL
This is the screen shot after I flashed the suggested bootloader @ars18 suggested.

What app is that?
---------- Post added at 08:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:38 PM ----------
Nvm I found it. Did a test on stock rom/no root. Not bad results.
https://imgur.com/gallery/4DY9Mh0
***I've tried adding the picture as an attachment through the XDA app but it's giving me a bad request error so I just used imgur.
I flashed the full G935T Firmware to my Verizon S7 (G935V), and I've not had any problems, rooted or not. I'm only saying this because the verizon s7 device can actually accept any firmware designed for a US Galaxy S7. It isn't a secret or anything. I really have all 4 firmware files for the G935T installed to my G935V right now no questions asked in ODIN. It's been this way for like a year now. Full Operations, no bugs.
My question is, how is it that all the carriers colluded to lock the device down in the same way. Who is actually responsible for this? Can all 5 Firmware versions available to this device really be locked in the same manner with no loophole manageable? I don't get it.
It really makes me feel like there was an effort outside of the OEM's/Carriers to make sure the Galaxy Devices starting with the S6 would never fully be root-able. It makes me feel like when ChainFire gave up on Samsung, all of sudden the devices are no longer unlock-able like they used to be. Is this just coincidence in the order of events regarding root and newer devices?

Thats not a bad rating at all. When I was using the eng_bootload file it was down around 6 and my cpu was always running high. Battery was crap and phone got hot soo easy. If you want to include your image in the post all you need to do is wrap the img in the square brackets like other forums the [ and ]. (IMG "Image Info")http link here(/IMG) but instead of the half circle use the half square.
Crap I think I just confused everyone including myself. Anyhow there is also a paper clip icon you can upload images right to this site or there is an icon with a sun and mountains, that lets you embed images like below this writing.

Wait, is there no way to resize the image inside the BBCode? What is this vbulletin? Time to google I suppose. Sorry about the large image folks, I will try and have it fixed soon.
Not sure if u followed my method exactly. My phone is PERFECT
---------- Post added at 02:25 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:21 AM ----------
The reason why my method shouldn't work is because of the fact that doing this should make the phone unbootable. Usually the phone will recognize that it is played around with. That's why this is so awesome. STOCK AND ROOTED!
Just to make sure I understand this, you're using the stock Verizon firmware on the phone, but with the booloader from the unlocked firmware, and it works (and it has an unlocked bootloader)?
Is there a way to do this without wiping the phone (and having to reinstall all apps and settings)? Can that be done by using HOME_CSC instead of CSC?

I have the verizon g935v.
I'm using the stock unlocked version of the s7 edge firmware G935U. The flash the ENGBOOT and root. After that, flash the BL file from the unlocked firmware while checking "phone bootloader update" in Odin. Can't think of a way to do this without wiping.

With that attitude your lucky any one will help at all. What is the fail in download mode there buddy. Just simply saying a fail isn't anything. Your probably flashing older firm Ware than on the device. Seems to be the common problem.
In the future i recommend you not get rude like you did.

On a further note Odin fails are 99% of the time user error cause their not paying attn or don't know what's going on. And with a attitude like that I'm going to assume both. More than likely your using older firm Ware or the wrong odin
