[Q] [BOUNTY] LG AKA Port for LG G2 D802/D801 - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, I hope this is the correct forum for Bounties/Requests/Ideas
In order to breathe some life into the LG G2 I think it would be amazing to port the LG AKA ROM to the LG G2
I personally have a D801 but D802 would probably reach more people and I can just flash a D801 kernal to make it work.
I'd be willing to buy the dev a couple cases of beer/soda/whatever you need the money for. XD
The masks for the AKA series are sold separately so getting a hold of those shouldn't be a problem either.
I hope AKA will get lollipop so that would be preferable but any port would be amazing, I'd gladly pay the bounty.
Cheers!

Isn't that G2 5.2 inches? The AKA is 5.0 inches, I believe.

Yes, but physical dimensions are nearly exact. AKA is also 720 while G2 is 1080 but all those things should be possible to overcome with some tweaks.

What's so special about the AKA that it needs porting?

I guess psycho want those Aka Eyes and other Aka things

Then why not just replace QW with AKA?
Of course, you'd need a custom case, but yeah.

AKA isn't really special, it's kind of interesting, however, a port would be special because it would have all the benefits of the superior G2 with the gimmicks of the AKA. Our G2s are kind of aging and since the physical dimensions are so close it is actually feasible to use the AKA face mask on G2 but have a phone thats superior to the AKA.
I used to see projects like this a lot back in the day, but I guess it is not so popular anymore.
P.S. - what does "replace QW with AKA" mean? What is QW? Quick window? I assumed you cant get the case and have it work, nor get the case, push the AKA system file and have it work.

Request: LG Quick Remote for AOSP

I have a request. Are there any devs out there that can get the LG quick remote app working on AOSP roms? I have found a zip, but it doesnt seem to work in AOSP. I would love if i could have the remote working on CM 10.2!!
This is going to be issue and same reason why there are no 3rd party remote apps, like the g2 camera you will need a lot lg framework to make it work. This is the reason I'm not flashing any more roms. Asop cameras suck you loose alot of g2 features. After years of abuse by asop style roms I'm happy with what lg has given us.

yeah so i've heard. i emailed the DEV of the remote app for the gs4 and htc one. hoping we can get some support. waht features are we missing from LG's camera software?
Some one already emailed that dev and asked if they were going to put out there app for the G2. His response was that the remote stuff was built into lg unlike the hTc and Samsung phones. Camera you'll lose everything that is in the lg camera.

"Hi
Unfortunately the LG has their communication with the infrared sensor private and we would have to go through their app and use their database which is something that would introduce many other problems , not to mention that the app would be half ours and not having control over the database would mean not having control over what users need .
If their policy will change we will definitely take this device into consideration .

This is inaccurate. The LG Q Remote has been used on CM and other AOSP-based ROMS on other devices. The following link is for a download for the Q Remote for the Optimus G Pro that works on AOSP-based roms. I've tried it on the G2 and unfortunately it doesn't work... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2458277&page=2

correct. i have as well. I am hoping that someone will be able to fix this to work on CM for us!
tried porting the QRemote today... no success so far.
seems like LGQRemote.apk does only contain resources, but no code (unlike the QRemote from Optimus G)
maybe someone else has more knowledge of porting, we really need to get this working

Maybe the answer then is to port the exact remote from the Optimus G Pro (from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2458277) to the G2?
looks like 4.4 is going to treat the lg g2 nicely. IR support is native to 4.4 now!!
IR Blasters
Android 4.4 introduces platform support for built-in IR blasters, along with a new API and system service that let you create apps to take advantage them.
Using the new API, you can build apps that let users remotely control nearby TVs, tuners, switches, and other electronic devices. The API lets your app check whether the phone or tablet has an infrared emitter, query it's carrier frequencies, and then send infrared signals.
Because the API is standard across Android devices running Android 4.4 or higher, your app can support the broadest possible range of vendors without writing custom integration code.

Hopefully macro's (like on a harmony remote) could be programmed in with the new API, any know?

Sorry for a huge bump. But I want to know what has happened with the new KitKat-update. Did it bring some new functionality to IR on G2?
I like Quick Remote but I would love to have a one-button macro to start everything?!
Is there any apps out there that support the LG G2 where you can put an icon on the desktop to start a macro?
Something with Tasker support would be great. To start Airplay, my receiver and spotify at the same time!
Thank you!

What's the allure about G3 roms?

I'd like to ask everyone's opinions regarding the G3 roms that are becoming available (CloudyG3, OptimusG3, etc). I'm currently using Pardus 7.4, and have tried a few of the G3 roms. But, I keep coming back to Pardus. Maybe I'm missing something? What is the fascination with the G3 roms?
Few ?
There are only 2 ported g3 roms.

The G3 roms do have some cool new features and a unique UI and they are maintained by great Devs. that will continue to improve them until they are on par with the other current KK roms. And as a ported rom, it takes time to get everything working smoothly. KK felt a little clunky coming from a JB rom that had been constantly updated and optimized but then the KK roms kept evolving too and now I'm very satisfied.
BUT, with that being said, you'll start to notice that a lot of people on XDA just want the 'newest' everything... As soon as something comes out it becomes the thing everyone wants and if they can't have it right away they ask and ask.. When "Android L" is released in any form for any device you will see a flood of posts of why LG sucks because we didn't get the update the very hour it was released.

That I don't know. I don't see it on xda - I think it's just the theme and launcher. (don't take my word for granted)

To devs or anyone who has used an aosp rom(even if buggy)

Something im sure not just i but many others are wondering, how fast does the g3 actuqlly perform? Of course it may be buggy and what not but is it safe to say that it is much faster albeit having this high resolution?

What are we comparing it to? And what exactly are we comparing? Are we talking ui? Graphics performance? Also, it would be hard to compare it to aosp as there is currently no aosp rom for this device, but coming from a gs3, this phone is a huge step up

There are aosp rom out there for the G3. Also Pac-Man is running on the T-mobile version. Also from the way it sounds they are pretty damn fast.
Be looking forward to running some aosp on the LS990 hopefully soon.
Oh, ok, my bad, I was just trying to figure out what he meant, and I didn't know there were any running builds of aosp, but really, I have no complaints for the g3 as far as speed wise, I froze alot of bloat, and it's not laggy at all, ive heard that the 2 biggest things for lag are the launcher and the keyboard, and I use action launcher and swiftkey, so I froze home and the keyboard app, and this thing had never been faster

Make sure to mention the carrier you are on. The lg g3 is for international and all carriers so no one is confused. ::thumbs up::
Stock LG software isn't that great, I'm working on a speed optimised ROM, you should see it in the LG dev thread soon.
So I don't own a g3 but I do own an lg optimus l90 and have built PAC ROM for it. The camera and Bluetooth are easy. For Bluetooth make sure you have the bluedroid.cfg from stock. And for both make sure you have the dtb set up right. You should usually build both v1 and two of the dtb and combine them using dtb tool. Also on oirs the open_cis dtbs worked better

Protip: before claiming something is 'easy' go ahead and spend a little time trying to do it. There's nothing easy about the camera, at least not in comparison to previous LG devices.
For everyone else, just an FYI: there are two different wifi/bt chipsets depending on your variant.
Broadcom: T-Mobile (D851) and Sprint (LS990)
Pronto: Verizon (VS985), International (D855), AT&T (D850)
We must be sure to include what variant we are using when we report/debug wifi and bt issues because they are quite a bit different.

okay it was simple for me. the issue for those is simple. you need a different build per variant.because the camera is in the dtb so for it to change on chip sets youll neded to changed kernel and dtb so each variant will need a new build (p.s. @invisiblek i like your profile pic kupo)

G4 port 😂

In your opinion Do you think that we will get a port of the g4 ?
If yes , when do you think this will happen ?
Lg G4 review >> https://youtu.be/zqF7HsjVay4
Most likely after g3 gets the UX 4.0 update.
Which probably won't happen until 5.1 or 5.2 is released for the G3.. and with no release of 5.1 or 5.2 for the G2 (let's face it, even the 5.0 G2 release has been really awkward), we're out of luck.
If someone makes a custom rom...
I would pay for a port.
I'm thinking we can raise money and then if someone makes a port, we give this bounty to him. I think that there are online platforms that allow this kind of things.
I highly doubt it. A lot of the developers have vanished already, i would love it if we did though
Pretty sure we will see it ported on some korean/vietnamese forum
Sent from my LG-D802
It would be pretty awesome, but would it be possible? I mean, the G2 and G3 were seemingly pretty similar (Sorry, I'm not a developer) but the 808 with 64bit and much newer architecture, would it even be possible? Except if the G3 or G2 gets the update officially of course, but that is way into the future. Would love to hear some devs' take on this.
My plan is to get the actual G4. Not much development left on this awesome G2 device. I am still very happy rocking CM12.
Why? Let CloudyFA work on CloudyG3 and stop trying to trick yourself with interface tweaks....G4 interface on the G2 is utterly useless.

besides completely different camera hardware on G2 & G4 (new & bigger sensor, F1.8 lens,...) - afaik - G4 uses different (newer) camera framework (or what's it called anyway)
so, every new "fancy" feature of G4 camera wouldn't have sense on G2...
xdabbeb explained it somewhere...
don't get me wrong - i wish i was wrong, and all of this would be possible - but i doubt it...
edit:
the only camera feature from G4 i'd like to have on G2 is the long exposure...
but again - with the G2's F2.4 aperture lens (much less light comes through than with F1.8 lens from G4 + the smaller G2 sensor) - the photos with even 1second "long" exposure would be noisy as hell...

It's considered bad manners to ask for ETAs for development.

Dude what do you need a rom for on the V20? Is there something in particular you see in any of the few roms out for the V20 right now that you think you're missing?
Should have bought a nexus if you wanted lots of development. I don't care about having root or roms on this phone. It has great features that I'm enjoying quite nicely.

I don't know if you've been to the development section of this forum or not, but if you'd notice, all of the ROMs that are available for the H918 are simply variants of the stock ROM. And if the V10's example carries over to the V20, the second screen will make ASOP ROMs difficult to develop.
I can root my phone and frankly, I don't see anything developed to date that makes it a worthwhile endeavor. There's no Xposed yet for Nougat. About all you can do with root now is Adaway, Viper and getting the Pixel version of Assistant.
You need to be able to unlock your bootloader before you can worry about ROMs. Your phone ain't there.

I dunno about you. I've been at this for about eight years now. Back in the day, all of that kinda mattered. But today, as then, most custom ROMs will give you more headaches than any benefit you might think you'll see. You can customize a whole lot better with stuff out of the Play Store.

how about double tap to sleep/wake screen on third party launchers like pixel launcher
thats about the only mod id like to see lol outside of custom recovery on my vzw lg v20
other than that an extreme syndicate rom with all LG removed and abase google experience with a ROM the size of ~300mb (Extreme Syndicate) would be first on LG and I make my roms the leanest meanest any phone can ever see lol
Ppl use xtrestolite on samsung but even that rom was more mb than my rom.. mine is the lightest Samsung rom there was (of course xtrestolite was my inspiration but they took the "extreme" name from me)
i cant wait until hopefully we get a BL unlock for non tmo devices.. i remove the most non sense crap but pack in the most used mods in my roms.. once my rom is set i plan to theme it.. geared towards extreme syndicate style (venom inspired black and white battery saving master theme lol)
once i have a unlocked BL (were working on it) I hope we can work together as I'd rather not spend time on theming as much as I want to spend time ROMing..
You're themes are awesome, i love the red n black but Venom I hope once things are going we can make a one of a kind ROM and custome THEME only available on Extreme Syndicate

I won't begin to deny that theming and ROMing aren't a good thing... for some people. Those "some people" would be those who have at least a curiosity as to how their phones work, those that can follow basic directions and those willing to live with the glitches caused by the marriage of features from different hardware platforms without the proper software support.
Often these issues work themselves out. But end consumers often forget that the developers here aren't full time, that they're juggling a hobby that hardly pays for a six pack of beer with family, jobs, and other commitments.
Nor would I discourage someone from trying. But I would be remiss if I didn't point out that the learning curve is fairly steep, and that there will be hours and hours of aggravation and the occasional moments of sheer terror when you think you just f'd up a $1000 phone... all for the payoff of a device that may not work as well as it did before you started messing with it.
