I have the N910c on kit kat- ANK5
I'm having some problems with IR blaster as many have with this model (sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, needs a restart to fix etc...).
There a lot of threads about it.
My question is - is it fixed on lollipop?
I want to root my device, but just wondering if it is fixed before I'll probably lose my warranty.
I know that this issue with the IR is probably software and not hardware, but still...
Is there anyone that has those problems on kit kat and now he's on lollipop?

I have a samsung TV and cox digital and so far my N910C has worked everytime since I started using it last week. I am on 5.0.1 BOC3

Freaking weird this issue with the IR!!
A feature that doesn't work on a certain model, on many devices, through several firmwares...
I also think I'll just forget about it.
Root my device and loose my warranty...
I am using 910c and i have the same problem. the IR blaster was working fine but suddenly and after the lollipop update 5.0.1 (Stock firmware) it stopped working.
I have tried all other methods tested by other members ( force stop remote app, uninstall updates, clear cache) nothing worked from these. Any ideas ?

Same here... Also I found it inconvenient to be connected to Wi-Fi for the IR to work...

I tried the IR blaster today but it does not work. I used the stock app, Asmart and many more IR app in the playstore but it didn't work. I checked if the IR LED is functional by viewing it in a digital camera and it does lit up. Now I used the same app (Asmart) on multiple TV on my brother's note 3 to make sure it's not the app or the tv. I found out that its not the app or the tv but my phone. Model is SM 910C. Anyone else having the same problem?

I am having the same problems on mine. I went into Verizon about it. I figured it was my phone. The guy called the IT department and was able to speak to them. Now, I'm telling you truths here, but we all know that when you're talking to a VZW Rep you get random stuff.
They did some things, really just asked me what I tried to do, and then they were making sure I wasn't rooted and stuff, but in the end said that there is a known issue with the IR Blaster. I'm actually quite disappointed in this. But, they said... here's where you get what you want to out of this... they are releasing a patch that will solve it. I was even given a date of January 15th. Now, I'm not going to be thumping around anything on anything about a Jan 15 update other than telling you that I got the information today and I'm taking it as a very small bit of information and I'm not going to bet the farm on this date and information, so you do what you feel you need to.
WHAT WE DO NEED!!! Get your phones out, point it at a TV and shoot that bastard until you find out if your phone works. Please, we need you guys to pitch in and find out if this is actually all Note 4's, some random ones or just a couple. I don't want to be stuck in a week past my 14 day window getting some jerks phone that bought it to play with, took it clubbing, spilled a drink on it and turned it in and now I'm stuck with that piece of _____. I want a new phone if I need a new phone as mine is 8 days old. So, please please get out there and help us.
I have a UK un branded rooted note 4 and haven't really used the ir blaster till I read this.
Tried mine on both TV and set top box and it works everything all the time so maybe it's a software issue with verizon versions? Kinda suck if it is.
Nope my Sprint US Variant Model N910P, works perfect with the stock remote app.
I'm going to post this on reddit.
I use the watch on app in two different places with no issues.

That is BS on a grand scale, walk in there and dont take no for an answer, they need to swap your phone out for one that works! 15th of Jan for a fix hahahaha, these idiots are playing you the fool for sure, after that time when the so called "patch" doesnt work there goes your swap out period and youll have to wait weeks for the device to get fixed.
No way I would leave that store until they swapped out the unit, demand to speak with the manager, show and explain the issue and demand either a working device or a refund!
There is no way on earth they know that a fix is scheduled for the 15th of Jan hahaha.
Edit: mine works flawlessly with built in app and zaza.
Okay, I'm looking at this now and I used a few more apps, there are just some that aren't working. Seems every one of the 7 I had picked before this post was talked about didn't want to work. I really like Dijit and they aren't working. But the native app is working and I'm not sure if I just disabled that before I even tried it or what.
SO... for me, this is solved. Sorry OP, but you gotta go work yours too I think.
Me too having problems in my LG TV. No problems using my note 3's ir blaster with the said TV, with the note 4, the stock remote app is working intermittently. Sometimes its okay sometimes its not. If i want to increase the volume i have to press it multiple times before the volume is increased. With the note 4 even the power button press with the remote is not working. Same with channels, have to press it multiple times.
Bottom line is note 3's ir blaster and stock remote app had zero problems. I dont know with the note 4 if the problem is the hardware (ir blaster itself) or the software (stock remote app)

Hi, been wandering why my SM-N910H IR Blaster not working flawlessly. And thanks to you I know I'm not alone. Mine also working intermittently, sometimes it's ok but sometimes need several attempts to get it in the "active" state. Please if anyone here could help if this is hardware or software problem so I can ask for replacement. Tq

I think this bug affect only some types of Note 4. I think they affect the SM-N910H and SM-N910C.
Mine works fine I'm using the AT&T variant (N910A)

I'm having the exact same problem. It works intermittently and I thought this was a problem with the app itself but I am clueless at the moment.
The ir remote control is working or not? My answer are yes and no. It starts working for a while. Then don't know what happen it will stop suddenly. I don't think it is app related as other ir app will stop working as well after that. The phone must be turning off the service after something triggers it. After reboot the phone, it works again.
Anyone who experience this, restart your phone and start again

after clear memory it works too don't need restart for that.

I wrote mail to the Samsung support and they answer me that they are working in this issue.
How do I know if the IR blaster is not working or my TV is not compatible?
I have an almost two years old Panasonic GT60.
Have the same problem with IR blaster (works one time in hundred times). If someone find i solution please post it. I am using this quite a lot and this is realy annoying.

I've read that this only affects certain Note 4 models, I've tried several IR apps and all have the same issue so it's definitely not app related.. According to Anymote comments, they mentioned that the workaround involved modifying the way the Note 4 sends out the IR codes or something.

Functions about 100% of the time when I use it with "Smart remote". Loads my vizio, apex, samsung, lg, tv, receivers, etc. All of which when I find the code that works best, work great. Only thing is that it has a slight delay, so when I mash on the button it will keep firing long after if I click it like 30 times in 2 seconds, it will do it 2-3 times a second, untill it caught up with it.
I wrote to Samsung support about the issue, their solution involved blaming 3rd party apps for the issue and suggesting using their soon to be decommissioned What's On application that obviously didn't work. Absolutely useless.
Solution found.
1. Clear the settings of smart remote app, Remove the updates of smart remote app using application manager, and force close it and reboot the mobile.
Its the latest version of it that breaks the IR. The guys paying someone for the fix are being scammed most likely.
The older version send IR signals in a slow fashion and it works perfectly fine. The latest version overdrives the IR module hardware capacity i guess and it breaks it....

It doesn't work for me, the latest is built-in in the firmware. And it seems the problem is from the IR driver not the software itself. Otherwise you can just install a 3rd party software to fix it.
Darnit...same here! At first after starting up the Smart Remote app it works fine, and after a while it stops working. rather anoying as I like this feature on my phone. Comes in very handy when watching TV and the phone at same time and needing to adjust volume or switch channels.
No option to remove any updates for the Smart Remote app in my case unfortunately.

For me worked after a reboot using a 3rd Party App. It seems to die after sometime that the device is on. I really like this feature, in special because it save space to avoid to carry several remote controls with me.
I have the same problem, my IR blaster was working fine and it stopped working suddenly after the lollipop update.
I tried all solutions proposed by members in this forum and other forums (clearing cache, force stop the app, uninstall updates, restart) nothing seems to work!

the infra red is not operating at all anymore..
I tried to uninstall the app and install it again, and tried different apps but no luck..
I also checked the infra red with another mobile camera but no indication that the infrared diode is operating though the upper blue led is functioning ok and is behaving always in the correct matter,
So i think its an issue regarding software....Are samsung aware of this frustrating problem?
should I return it to the agent since it is still under guarantee its onley 8 months..

I have a N910G and my IR blaster only works if I remove the plastic frame from the back of my phone.
I've seen this reported many times, but have never seen a solid fix for it. I've had my S5 for over a year, been on Marshmallow since it could be installed with Smartswitch, and have had no problems. I first noticed things were off when youtube would no longer rotate, so I started my device. For the first time since I've updated, android told me I was on Custom firmware (On S5 startup Screen) I was rooted previously in Lollipop, but have not seen this before a few days ago, and haven't anymore. Sometimes with restarting the device or clearing the cache rotation will comeback and the sensor app I have downloaded will show they work, but a lot of times after either it wont. I have not tried resetting the phone yet, for lack of time of backing up files, but any input would be great here. I can give any information that is needed.

I have had the exact same issue for about a month now. I was running stock Marshmallow 6.0.1 when this started happening. A few days prior I updated from Lollipop and rooted my device, so I thought that might be the issue. In my attempts to solve it, I unrooted the phone, rolled back to stock Lollipop, and even installed CM13, all the while factory-resetting and clearing the cache. Nothing worked so far, and my sensors still "freeze" after a while, until the next time I restart the phone. Meaning it's likely a hardware issue, albeit a very weird one. At least I got CM13 now, which is just so much better than TouchWiz

Disassembly aside, how do you do the actual reheating/reflow? With a soldering iron? Or did you just stick the whole motherboard into an oven?
I've found guides for taking the S5 apart, but not for reflowing its parts.

I recently upgraded from 4.4.2 stock rom to 6.0.1 stock rom and everything worked fine except the GPS. I tried a few different fixes like changing the gps.conf, and a few different apps and could see there was some signal but it could never seem to get a lock. Sometimes it seemed to get a lock for a split second then drop it again.
I ended up going back to my 4.4.2 and GPS works fine again. So the simple conclusion is this is firmware based. I'm no expert but would be willing to help if someone wants to investigate this further. There has to be some GPS related files from the KK firmware that can be exported to MM to make it work

Auto-brightness was working fine for me. Just the GPS issue noted.
Guys i need some help here recently my IR Blaster stop working i tried flash stock rom/wipes/ but doesn't seem to fix the issue.i use my ir blaster a lot and i refuse to give up i have to fix it .whenever i open peel smart remote app i got error message as in screenshot below i tried to clear data/wipe cache/uninstall and install app again but same thing.my led notification light blink blue while i press remote app but it's not working with of my AC OR TV.
by the way i am on stock touchwiz rom i hope someone figure out to fix this.i need to know is this software or hardware issue.

Nothing wrong with 6.0.1 my ir blaster was working but suddenly it stopped working without any reason .
I tried many apps but no luck i was using peel app and it was working fine but from 2 days it begin to gave me an weird error as in screenshot in OP.
I even flashed back 5.1.1 4.4.4 but still the same i think maybe it's hardware failure

try *#0*# test menu to check iR , open camera in any mobile and put it in front of ir blaster beside hand free jack . if you can see light then it has no problem ,
it worked with me at MM but after last security updates it was disabled by samsung , and i think if you can downgrade to kitkat it will work for sure
and maybe you can check this for more info
