Hi,
I've just found out that my baseband version is for the Taiwanese market (G900IZTU1BOA1).
How can I change the baseband version to G900IDVU1ANE1?
I need it to be changed, as I otherwise can't use NFC here in Australia.

The baseband version should have nothing to do with the ability to use NFC.

Hi AMoosa, this was on the Westpac Mobile Payments site:
How do I set up mobile payments on my mobile?
On your Westpac Mobile Banking App home screen, tap the ‘Pay’ button and follow the screen prompts to set up your eligible cards for mobile payments
For the Samsung Galaxy S5, you will need to have the latest version of the 'Android KitKat' firmware on your phone. You can find out by checking the 'Baseband version' field in the 'About device' options in your phone 'Settings'
For ‘Pay’ to be enabled on your Samsung Galaxy S5, this 'Baseband version' must be 'G900IDVU1ANE1'
This new Android KitKat firmware was made available for Samsung Open, Optus, Telstra and Vodafone Galaxy S5 devices from Tuesday, June 10th 2014
If your Galaxy S5 does not currently have the 'G900IDVU1ANE1' version of the 'Android KitKat' firmware, check the 'Software update' section in the 'About device' options in your phone settings.
There's 2nd massive list of firmware to download here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2715487
Just use one of them.

If you dial *#*#4636#*#* do you get the testing menu? If so, go into Phone Information and check you are set to LTE/GSM auto or similar.

If you input that code in the dialer (correctly) it should take you to a screen called "Testing". If it doesn't then there is something wrong with your phone. This works on pretty much all phones.
@GDReaper: The Galaxy S4 does not recognize that particular version of the USSD code. It can be run however through the Phone Info app.
@khsh97: Please post the following information:
1. Model Number
2. Android Version, found by going to Settings > More > About device.
3. Firmware Version (AP, CP, CSC), found by dialing *#1234# in the dialer or by installing Phone Info from the Play Store and running it.
4. Service Provider
5. Country
6. Is the phone rooted? (Yes/No)
7. Is a custom ROM installed? (Yes/No, and the name of the ROM)
Before using GDReaper's suggested method, post the information requested, so that we can eliminate other possibilities for why you don't have a LTE option.

I ran the code before posting and it worked on my S4. However, am running the gpe rom. Maybe that's why it actually worked
That is probable, as I'm running a rooted and debloated Touchwiz and it didn't work. But as mentioned, the Phone Info app is another way to get there.
Sorry for late reply!
Model No: GT-I9505
Android version: 4.4.2
Firmware: I9505XXUGNE8(official stock)
AP: I9505XXUGNE8
CP: I9505VFGGNE8
CSC: I9505VFGGNE2
My phone is rooted with towelroot however the option was missing before root as well.
BTW, I don't have LTE sim, does that matter?
If that matter then how can I check without LTE sim?
And yeah, the code *#*#4636#*#* is not working in my galaxy s4.
I am going to check out phone info app.
If you don't have a LTE SIM, you won't have LTE as an option. Upgrade your SIM to a LTE version and you should then be able to select LTE.

Ok, thank you...!!!
By the way, why the code is not working on official touchwiz roms?
Ask Samsung that question, but don't expect an answer. There could be a multitude of reasons why Samsung disabled it, but unless they pony up a response we'll never know.
Lol, Nice answer!!! Anyway phone info app can do it so why we should argue with samsung for disabling that code.
I think you must have firmware based on your country to have LTE. Now I'm downloading 4.4.2 for my country and I'll keep you posted
@velizarcho123: And you'd be wrong. LTE depends on two things: having a LTE-compatible SIM and having the proper frequencies in the radio chip to pick up LTE service. Assuming the device is neither region nor SIM locked, the moment you put in a LTE SIM Android will load the APN for the carrier into Settings. LTE should then work immediately. If it doesn't, the APN can be modified in most devices so it does work.
That said, if possible, using the firmware from your home region is the smartest idea, as Samsung does modify the firmware a bit, usually by removing languages other than those spoken in the region.

All firmwares have LTE, I does a trick - rooted my phone and modified a system file that enables LTE in the network menu. This is stupid Samsung restriction.

Reread my post. You were able to modify the firmware, but that modification would not have worked if the SIM wasn't capable of LTE and the radio chip didn't support the frequencies used.
EDIT: Just to clarify, Samsung modifying firmware to remove the option to use LTE does not mean the firmware doesn't support LTE. Clearly it has to support LTE if your modification worked. This means that firmware is eliminated as a variable, leaving the two remaining variables as the SIM and the radio chip.
Hi. I received a Samsung Galaxy S5 as a gift about a month ago, but it's missing so many features I have no idea why.
My friend has exactly the same model, yet he has so many more options. For example,
I cannot edit the options for Power Saving mode
There is NO S voice on my apps page
The Sound Recorder looks just like the one from S4 and not S5, it also has NO options either, to configure it
Cannot change several options on the Camera, such as setting the brightness. The option is there, but it's greyed out, I cannot select it
I cannot update the android version. My current version is 4.4.2 and I cannot update it. As I access the 'System Updates', it does say 'Checking for update', but after a while it just says 'Network connection failed' no matter what. The signal for internet is the strongest, as well.
If I press and hold on the Home Screen, the whole options are not coming up either, such as seeing the current running applications. It just says 'Set wallpaper for', 'Apps and widgets' and 'Folder'.
What's wrong with it? Any way I can at least get the S voice?

SM-G900F is the European version of S5 and from what I see there are some discrepancies with the kernel number ...
So here is my hypothesis:
A. It has the incorrect ROM, which means flashing a 900F ROM should bring back those grayed out menus
B. It is a clone and not the real thing! Try reading some more by googling this "3.4.5 [email protected] #1 sm-g900f"
Thank you for the reply. I will ask where has the gift been specifically bought from to ponder on the "clone" thesis. I really, really hope such is not the case. Also, will it only bring back the greyed menus and ignore the 'S Voice' problem?
Regarding the 900F flash, do you think it's okay follow this guide in the attachment? (Have to do it this way cause I can't post links)
I would not try to flash anything before you're sure what you have in your hands cause if it's fake and you try to flash official Samsung rom you would be in trouble. Download Phone info Samsung from play store and check there if it's a original s5
this seems to be common specs of clone s5 phones that i am guessing need the appropriate custom rom - would anyone know if the given specs/details above would be enough to identify a specific custom rom - i have the same specs and when i did a hard reset it let loose a mass of spyware, adware, downloaded numerous playstore games and porn site links all as soon as i put the phone online - i am therefore desperate to find a clean custom rom that matches the above specs - i am hoping as doves above for an appropriate custom rom source
This model isn't a US model AFAIK. I checked sammobile, but all of the Lollipop updates had a carrier. I'm not sure which carrier mine belonged to, but it's currently being used on an AT&T MVNO. There are no updates when I check in the settings menu, but that is expected since this model isn't available here in the US AFAIK.
Does Samsung Kies update the phone using the international version of the update? What's the best method here?
Thanks

Both updates Kies or OTA will be firmware version not sim .
If it is an unbranded German then you should get updates OTA or Kies when they are available .
Dial *#1234#. Look at the CSC. That'll tell you whether your device is branded or unbranded.
If it says N9005DBT, you've got the DBT firmware, which is German unbranded.
Updates are not related to SIMcards nor locations. They check your CSC and IMEI. And KNOX flag.
CSC for the locality of the firmware,
IMEI for the validity of the device and as the order in which devices get updated,
KNOX flag for validity of the KNOX status.
Updates are rolled out over Samsung's update servers, all providers have to do with that is providing your internet connection.
You will recieve the update when the OTA for your CSC rolls out and your IMEI comes up on the list.
Where you are and what provider you are using at that time is entirely irrelevant.
DBT is not out yet. (Sadly.)

Thank you for that response. It seems that I do indeed have DBT. Is there an ETA or rumors or something that can indicate to a imminent release? Any leaks?
Also, are the DBT updates available on sammobile? I was only able to find carrier specific firmwares when I last checked. I just want to make sure that I didn't miss anything.

You were likely looking on the N9005 main page. The new layout for Sammobile is highly illogical. Top left of it is a drop-down menu where all firmwares are listed. (The one that says 'Select Country') Here's the link for DBT: www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-N9005/DBT/
Sadly I don't have an ETA. I've been reliably informed that they're holding off the largest markets (DBT, BTU, XEF) due to ongoing issues with Bluetooth and WiFi in Lollipop that originate with Google. Until those are fixed we likely won't be seeing 5.0, if at all.
Carriers are releasing them for a reason I see every day: "We still don't have Lollipop! F*ck this provider, I'm changing to another one the second my contract ends.". They prefer a software issue they can simply blame on Samsung over impatient customers.
If you really want Lollipop, you can flash DTM, which is Deutsche Telekom. It's DBT with a few T-Mobile labels and apps.

I downloaded a non root Google Dialer APK and it showed HD voice when calling my wife's TMobile number. I would really like to flash this to a completely TMobile version so I can get 4x4 MIMO & 256 QAM features but I am looking at http://updato.com and I see 2 different versions. SM-G950U & SM-G950U1. SM-950U USA TMB G950USQU1AQDE May 1st 2017 or SM-G950U1 USA TMB G950U1UEU1AQE3 June 12th 2017 . At this point I am confused on how I should proceed. If somebody could help me figure out how to proceed I would appreciate it. I have done a lot of flashing and unlocking bootloaders going back to my original Droid X but I really don't want to brick my $800.00 dollar phone right away.
Note: I have read [Snap.] Guide for Flashing Standard FW, Carrier Switching, and Flashing Unlocked FW and I am still a bit lost. Hope this is enough information for someone to send me in the right direction

I'm not sure if it does yet but I would assume so since you are flashing the T-Mobile firmware .. I have tried many different methods of finding out if it does via the device but I think you need root. I tried multiple applications from the play store and used multiple phone codes to open every menu available. I got to the ServiceMode to change bands by using *#2263 / I got to ServiceMode with Debug that gives information about the current Band that you are on and how many MHZ you are running at. It also gives you some additional info: RSRP RSRQ SNR. Unless somebody else has a way to figure this out without root I'm not sure. Also Ill add a list of the current cities with 4x4 MIMO below. I did verify that all HD Voice, Wifi Calling, Video Calls, & Volte work .... Verified by downloading Shortcut Master Lite https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.shortcutmaster.lite&hl=en ( Under App Explorer / System Apps / IME Settings / ImsSettingsLauncherActivity / Launch ). I am happy with the TMobile Version .. It has T-Mobile App installed and Lookout but there is ways to disable those and remove them without root. I haven't removed them but i read it is possible ... Doesn't use much RAM. If you need anything else let me know!

So from your 1st link, I do see that my city is there (WA), but second link, didn't have it.
I have done flashing via Odin many times on my previous Galaxy phones, so I feel comfortable, but I am kind of debating...if I really need to flash and if I will benefit from this.
I will ask you few questions and it may help me make a decision:
1) Have you measured download speed using Speed Test before flashing T-Mobile firmware? If yes, any difference?
2) I hear that my phone calls are clear and pretty positive that HD Voice is there, even though there is no icon.
3) VoLTE, Band 12 and WiFi Calling are supported and work well. Never had a reception issue or call drops, at least not yet.
4) As for RCS support, do you see it often when you text other users?
5) Video calling - your phone should have it, have you used it?
6) How is battery life compared to an unlocked software that you had before?
From the list above, I would flash to T-Mobile if: #1, 4 and 6 are working properly to make user experience better. I do know that RCS even on T-Mobile is limited to phones that support it, for example Glalaxy S6, 7 and 8 and possibly Note 5. Also some LG phones I believe had it as well.
In other words, what did you gain when you went for T-Mobile firmware?
Before I forget, you used Odin and added needed files such as BL, AP, CSC(you probably didn't you HOME file, just CSC) and also USERDATA TMB file - I am correct?
Any updates on whether or not the Unlocked USA S8 supports 4x4 MIMO & 256 QAM on T-Mobile? I've flashed the T-Mobile firmware on my unlocked phone and haven't noticed any speed decreases or increases. Any new way to verify that s 4x4 MIMO & 256 QAM is actually active with the unlocked firmware? I believe it is doing 3x CA though...

I am trying to find that info for sometime... I have seen somewhere that there is/was an app in play store which was similar to LTE Discovery, but it did show more info on 4x or QAM, I don't really remember. That time I didn't need this info, so I didn't really pay attention. I found this site that has some info: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1888849-How-to-tell-if-using-4x4-mimo

Try reinstall stock rom and update
Take a look at "Updates for Samsung - Android Update Versions"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=samsungupdate.com
This app will get that sorted for you. Clicking advanced search allows you to search for ALL firmware. Just enter in the model number ?
This can be also faked s8. I saw many of them in german facebook market.
