When i woke up today trying to turn off my alarm, i noticed that the phone is choppy and lagging heavily which is very unusual. Initially i thought some apps are updating but this lagging never stopped. So i used the system monitor in FKupdater to check if the cpu is running high, but instead i found out that the disk i/o is constantly running at full. I did some findings and currently there is no per-app disk usage monitor so i don't know what app is causing this. My phone is almost unusable now, can anyone help me with this?
My Nexus 4 is running on older version of ParanoidAndroid which is 3.69.
Android version 4.2.2, and latest franco kernel.

I've got a problem with my I9000, several times throughout the day it will randomly restart itself. It will be quite happily sat idle in my pocket not doing anything, and then suddenly I hear the boot-up sound from my pocket. It's just started doing this since Thursday or Friday I think it was, had nearly 700 hours uptime on it (699 hours ) and then I noticed from my SeePU notification that something was hammering the processor, running it at >90% for more than 10 minutes. Couldn't see any programs running in the background so decided to restart the phone. This is one my problem started.
It's running stock JPY with Voodoo Advance kernal, it was overclocked to 1.2GHz and had some undervolting from 800MHz down, this had been stable for all of those 699 hours, but I disabled the OC and UV yesterday to see if it was that causing the trouble, but even with it disabled the phone's still been restarting.
What would be really great is if there is some kind of crash log for Android (something similar to the Windows Event Viewer) so I can see what's causing this. Does anyone know if such a thing exists, and if it does how I might go about accessing it?
Failing that, anyone know why my phone would suddenly start restarting itself now?
had pretty much the same issue, different kernal and rom... but had an OV/UV that for the most part was stable...
then today was continually restarting.....
solution?
changed CPU scheduler to noop
changed CPU Governor to conservative (Galaxy S cpu default configuration)
Now not restarting at all... and that's with a 1.3GHz overclock... running several benchmarks and no undervolting at all.
I'll let you know if it starts acting up... but interesting that this at least fixed it for me.
Stupid thing has restarted itself twice this morning. This is ridiculous.
I've just set the schedular to noop, can't see an option to set the governor though. Will see if that sorts it.
Would really appreciate knowing if there's a log file or something though
If it was a PC you would say its overheating .

Found an app on the market called OS Monitor that shows all the running processes and what load they're putting on the CPU, it also shows the dmesg and logcat log files.
Thankfully my phone hasn't restarted itself since changing the schedular, but if it does I should hopefully now be able to find out why
quick answer. Reflash the phone .
I guess reflashing and removing some dangerous apps will be good for you phone.
Hmm, well looks like it's given up on restarting itself and is just plain turning itself off now.
Looks like I'm going to have to reflash the stock kernal and see if that fixes it
I tried to search for a thread relating to this but couldn't find anything, if anyone knows of one a link would be appreciated.
OK, so I flashed Motleys kernel 2 days ago. Everything was running fine, I had it OC'd to 1.6 and it was super fast and smooth. I had set the governor to "on-demand" to try and save some battery life(over "performance"), and also because it seemed like the CPU would run at full 1.6 constantly if it was set to performance (I don't know if that's how it should be or not, but this isn't the issue). I used System Tuner to OC it like he recommended in his thread.
Yesterday I set it to performance to run some benchmarks, and then continued using it on performance to see how it felt. About an hour and a half later I also started messing with my home screen and apps and ended up accidentally using Quick Boot to take me to the bootloader. After powering it back on I checked System Tuner to set the governor and once I did I noticed, according to System Tuner, that 2-4 of the cores are running at full 1.6 and the CPU usage is from 25%-100% even though I have nothing open.
I flashed my recovery via Clockworkmod Recovery, Motleys kernel is now replaced by the stock kernel, however I'm still having the same issue, but just at 1.3. Any idea why the CPU is running so high, for apparently no reason?
.....
OK, so I just checked System Tuner again and the CPU doesn't seem to be doing as bad now, but it's still all over the place and I don't have anything else open. Here are the times:
Offline - 77%
340MHz -11%
475Mhz 1%
1.2Ghz - 5%
1.3Ghz - 1%
Compared to yesterday when it had said 1.3GHz 79% or something like that (and was running nothing but system tuner).
So, yeah, that does seem a lot better but one thing remains; the CPU usage still jumps up to almost 50% and once again, I am running nothing but System Tuner, so something still doesn't feel right.
I think ondemand governor is causing the CPU to shoot up so often and quickly.(That's all I can think of.) I always use interactive and it's usually the preferred governor. Ondemand is more for people who play lots of games and they need the extra boost. If you game a lot then I guess you should still to it.

So just last night my VZW Note 3 became utterly slow and unresponsive. The best analogy I can give you is that it is like an Intel Pentium 3 trying to run Windows Vista. I haven't downloaded/installed or updated any new apps in days except for the Google Play Music app. Which I downgraded because I didn't like the new widget. I extracted the app from the the deodex NC2 ROM (so I know it's legit). I've even tried turning off all Xposed Modules and it still does the same thing. I've also noticed that all 4 CPU speeds hover around 70%-95% at all times (via Hyperdrive ROM monitor), however I can't find any running app using that much CPU. Anyone know what might be going on?
Other Symptoms:
- Extremely slow internet (over 4G and WiFi)
- Unable to download, instal or update app from Google Play, Xposed or SD Card
- Alarm and Timer do not work
- Major battery drain (only 2 hours trying different settings this morning)
- AVG found no malicious apps
Phone Specs:
- OS 4.4.2
- ROM is Hyperdrive RLS8
- Kernel Version is 3.4.0
- Baseband Version is N900VVRUBMJE
Any other info you might need on the phone I should be able to provide.
I upgraded from rsl7 to rsl8 and had the same issue. I figured something was causing errors but didn't feel like troubleshooting so I switched to a different Rom. If your able I would suggest to pull a logcat with the screen on and see what is logging down the system. Also if your able to get better battery stats and see what's causing the drain when the screen is off. I switched to objective because I can get all the customization through xposed. I loved the specs of the phone but not all the bloat or gimmicks (in my opinion)

mine does the same thing from time to time and I have yet to figure out why. The only thing that returns it to normal (or as normal as it gets with this latest Kitkat OTA debacle) is booting into recovery and clearing the cache files multiple times.
This is a problem that has plagued every Android device I've owned. Whenever I turn the screen on to do something, the CPU usage shoots way up. These insundry background processes don't seem to be run using "nice" or "cpulimit," and so even with four cores on the Nexus 7, the GUI lags quite a bit. If there's any time apps should NOT run background processes, it's the moment that the user wakes up the device.
Has anyone addressed this problem on their tablet? Which system event would be relevant, if I wanted to use an app like "autostarts" to try and fix this?
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 GT-p5113. I asked for help on that device's forum and got no attention. I flashed unlegacy-android 7.1 and s1mple-espresso kernel several months ago. About 3 months ago, it suddenly started having issues. I had not made any changes to the device for several months, but it just started happening one day. The system would lag really badly (completely unusable) unless I set the CPU governor to anything other than interactive. Even the powersave governor performed better than interactive. The system also would not put the CPU to sleep, so the device had severe standby battery drain and even got warm while in "standby." Unfortunately, wakelock detector apps could not find anything, so I just lived with it. A week ago, I decided not to put up with it anymore and flashed Omnirom 7.1 without the custom kernel. I currently have the default kernel that comes with the ZIP file. It worked perfectly for a bit, but the issues came back after running Omnirom for a week. Just yesterday, a new problem appeared. Every few minutes, the device will almost completely freeze. Navigation buttons and volume keys also stop working. However, the power key still kinda works. The screen turns on and off but does not lock. It works properly when the device isn't frozen. The freezes last from a couple seconds to a minute, and then the device will react to all of the input its been given in that time as if it was all done in one instant. I usually get an app not responding dialog for the active app after the incident. In apps written in C/C++ such as Minecraft and SimplePlanes, only the UI freezes but the rest of the app keeps going. This leads me to believe it is a problem with the Android Runtime that interprets and compiles Java code. I can't figure out why, but the freezing issue almost completely goes away if I disable kernel samepage merging. Wiping cache and dalvik/art cache does not fix the issues.
TLDR:
The device (Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 espresso10wifi GT-p5113) lags to the point where it is unusable if the CPU governor is set to interactive. Even powersave performs better than interactive.
The device does not put the CPU to sleep (resulting in unacceptable levels of standby battery drain), but I can't find any wakelocks. I don't currently have any workarounds other than powering off or plugging in the device when it is not in use.
ART freezes for a few seconds to a minute every few minutes, but disabling kernel samepage merging seems to almost completely fix it.
Wiping cache and dalvik/ART cache does not fix any of this, and it seems to follow me when I change ROMs.
I can't do this anymore. Going back to marshmallow.
