Instead of holding thumb up and down on the scanner, use it sideways.
Hold in right hand and put thumb across horizontally.
Works flawlessly for me everytime.
Good luck!

I noticed this as well, you can use your finger in almost any direction and it works. I find sideways has higher accuracy than up and down as it were.
I have about 3 different prints saved for each thumb in different directions. Helps a lot.

Corrected. I do have 2 for each thumb. Lol.
I actually have my 2 Thumbs and my 2 Index Fingers (very useful when the phone is laying on a flat surface and you don't want to pick it up.)
Yup very useful tip. Another small tip for unlocking your S6 with the screen off, is to press and hold the Home Key to turn on the screen and unlock in one motion instead of reaching for the power button then home button

I actually had several of my bluetooth things (including my watch) set as trusted devices so that I would hit the home button, then swipe the screen. I decided that this press & wait approach was easier and turned off the trusted devices settings.
When I did mine, I left mine flat on the table and had it read almost the side of my thumb for a couple of times so it can be read while flat as well

No matter what I do just can't get it to work consistently.
I find that the sensor often doesn't get a match if I'm putting any amount of pressure on the home button. If I just very lightly touch the finger/thumb on the home button, it works the first time, every time.
Still no luck. Don't know what I'm doing wrong. Hate to be an iPhone fan boy. Because I have used way more android than iPhone, but I never had any problems with the iPhone 6 scanner. I think Samsung just hates me.

happened to set my epic down on my wifes camera case, which has a magnetic closure flap...the phone was asleep when i set it down, but when it got close to the magnet, the screen turned on and skipped the "drag to unlock" screen...ive tried it numerous times since, and get the same result...
anyone else experience this?
Must be like blackberries. When you pulled them out of their case the screen would turn on and when you put them back in the screen would turn off.
Sent from my Epic using XDA app.
I remember reading about the magnetic sensor in a list of specs but this is the first time I've heard of it actually being triggered. It would be nice to see some cases that take advantage of this feature.
I just pulled a hard drive magnet off of my cubicle wall and tried it. Doesn't work for me.

Yup, that works for me..but doesn't go to the lockscreen, immediately goes to the the home screen.
I would assume it is for either the home media dock, or an upcoming car dock, so it automatically goes into the proper program when in place.

Hope they plan on putting out a maintenance release for that..I just installed Car Home, locked the screen and put the magnet next to it and it came on in landscape mode, but just on the home screen.
Would be nice if we could use something like tasker and create a couple of actions depending on the proximity of a mgnet...
Haha all I "use" the magnet sensor for is with the Tricorder app, magnetic flux option. =P Might help to find the best spot... (I guess I'm not cool enough to have hard drive magnets at work.)
It's for the slide-out keyboard. Hold your phone in portrait and keep the magnet to the left of the LED flash. The screen will re-orient itself to landscape. Move the magnet and it will go back.

It is just incredibly awkward trying to unlock the phone with one hand. Every single other smartphone on the market is easy to access... this I feel like im going to drop each and every time I do it.
Anyone else having this issue?? Not sure this is the phone for me after about 15 hours of using it...
Not to mention the QHD is still pixelated.
Anyone know what the return policy is? This will negate my extended 2 year agreement if I returned it right?

Return policy is 14 days I believe.
I actually love the unlock location. The finger print scanner works terrifically for me.
The screen is great for a pentile and much much much better than the rgbg layout. I only notice any type of aliasing in a few places (battery on notification tray for one.)

How's the location of the volume rockers? How'd you feel about using those to wake the device? I use widgetlocker on my Inspire and I will on the atrix when I pick it up. It allows you to wake the device with any hardware button ("easy wake" in settings). And a nice set of ways to customize your lockscreen. Or you can set it up to look exactly stock, as I've seen the motorola froyo lockscreen as an option.

really?! THANKS!!!
Doesnt work.. finger print is disabled... Wish I could wake with the volume rocker though...
Yea. Absolutely hate the power button location. Thanks for the heads up on widget locker. Now using my volume buttons to wake. Much better.
I love the placement of the button. If you put the phone upside down in your pocket, then you can wake it up and then swipe your finger to unlock it while you're still taking it from your pocket 8)
Count me in the group that hates how hard it is to press the power button! Really, really don't like how difficult it is and how much pressure it takes to depress that button.
I love the fingerprint scanner functionality, though.

Exactly. It's perfect for me to hold one handed and unlock easily with fingerprint reader. I just got mine this morning, but haven't needed more than a single swipe so far. I find it easier than using the standard slider as I can keep a grip on the phone well while unlocking. I didn't like the thumb stretch to unlock on larger devices as I actually felt like I could drop it.

Actually if it was bought at a COR store the return policy is 30 days with a $35 restocking fee.
I think placement is great, but the force needed is what makes it awkward. Once on, it is so easy to swipe a finger to unlock.
I'm already used to it.
As with everything, mess around with it enough and it will become second nature.
Love the finger print scanner too. That should piss the wife off.
Took a little time...
but I can already tell I'm starting to get used to its location. I absolutely LOVE the fingerprint reader as an unlock mechanism though.
Button does seem awkward. would like it on the side but I guess it would get either the lefty or righty upset (depending on which side you put it). Which it would just turn on with a swipe rather than pressing and swiping. And maybe a click so you know when you've pressed hard enough.
I tried it out in store and loved it. A lot of my VZW friends have the Droid 2, with its tiny, hard-to-press power button, and was concerned I would be forced to throw the phone out the window if I had a button like this. This is easily the softest, easiest, largest on button I've ever seen on a phone.
after setting finger print unlock , I don't even really notice it anymore
yeah I love the location and the finger print scanner one hand unlock sweet
I wish the button were raised just a 1/2mm. Everything else is great.
I'm considering looking for something to stick on it to raise it a bit. Don't know if the fingerprint reader will work through like a thick plastic sticker or somethin...
it bothered me a little at first but im getting used to it now. not really thinking about it
I like it. I have large hands, and have no problem. I feel the button was placed in the center to allow for index finger swiping of either the right of left hand... pretty good design choice if you ask me. I can see how reaching it while gripping the phone in one hand could be tough if your hands are small though.
EDIT: Not to be an annoying fanboy, but the power button on the inspire irked me a lot. it was almost flush with the body of the phone, and at a slight angle that you almost had to wrap your finger around the top of the device to feel it. The worst part is that it provided NO indication you were actually touching it. It was just a feeling that feels like, "this will NOT work 6 months from now." I know HTC makes great stuff - but I was relieved when I first touched my atrix and felt an ever so slight 'click' from the button.
Thanks for the Widget Locker recommendation, the placement is awful! I have my phone on my desk flat a lot and it will go to sleep, it requires me to pick the phone up wth two hands to unlock it. Its a pain in the arse.
Hey Everyone,
I do this every now and then, wondering if everyone else does.
Let's say I'm using the phone one handed, web browsing or something and I need to reach a button on the opposite bottom corner.
Rather than stretch across the screen, I just rotate the phone 90 degrees for a second. The screen rotates, and the button is now directly under my thumb. I click it, rotate back and move on.
Yes, the Note still sucks sometimes as a one handed phone, but this does help out every now and then.
- Frank
oh thanks nice idea
another way is to curl your finger around the back of the phone...I did try this, and looks really funny if you're watching from afar
I guess I just have big hands. The way I hold the phone, I can touch everything to the right of the blue line.
Ha.. same here. I've got big hands too. One overseas colleague once asked me if that is a S2 I'm holding.
If I'm holding the phone, you can only see 1/4 of it from the back. And only 1 cm separates my thumb to the closest finger when I hold it.
This is particularly useful if you're reading in landscape.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA Premium HD app
another trick for zooming during browsing with the stock samsung browser is to simulate 2 fingers. usually you can zoom in and out by putting them on the screen and overturn the phone.
so instead of using to fingers, just put your thumb on the left side of the screen, so that a small part of your palm touches the screen on the right, which simulates an input^^
i hope u understood what i mean
I never hold my phone 1 handed. I'm too afraid of dropping it. But I'll try your advice if I ever need to
Hi Guys!
Newbie here.
My S7E home button seems to register when slightly pressed on the left, right and dead on the center. However, when using the same force on the lower side of the button it wont register until I apply some force (not alot, just a tad bit). I am just wondering if this is a flaw or such?
Thanks!
Flaw it is.

My 1st s7 edge did not recognize left hand sided home button presses when pushed with too less force.
My 2nd s7 edge recognizes everything, without force.
So there are some quality differences in different models.
Thanks for the replies.
My s7 edge left button is responsive when pressing slightly on the left of the home button, so that's not an issue.
For me the lower bottom of the button is.
Does yours respond when slightly pressing the bottom of the button using a fingernail?
Thanks

Hi xantrk!
My left click is fine, so with my right and center.
The screen is fine as well, no issues there what-so-ever.
Its just that I need to click slightly harder to register a click when I am pressing on the very bottom of the button.
Not sure what I need to do here
FYI my phone was built in Sept of 2016, I bought it few days ago. I would assume Samsung would have addressed these issues after being flooded with complains in March. I used an app called Phone INFO to source this info.
Thanks,

Oh im not sure about that, but when I first get my second device, button was hard and felt like it is rubbing and clunky. Then I just pushed the button with my hand a little wet, it is working flawlessly since then. Maybe you might wanna press the bottom side with juuust a little bit of water if you wanna take the risk. My second phone is manufuctured in the end of june.
Hi. When I press on the very edge of the home button, be it left or right, it wont recognize too. But it happens only if I press softly. I dont think it is an issue. I think almost all s7s are like this. Dont bother exchanging or repairing

Hi Xantrk,
Hmm I think I would not want to risk it.
Does yours react when slightly pressed ( not all the way in ) down on the bottom of button?
With the same pressure I can easily register a functional click when pressed left, right and center.

Hi Gtabr1,
For me slightly pressing the bottom button will not register a click, I need to press sown a TAD bit harder for it to register.
Do you usually press down fully when clicking the home button.
After reading everyone's comments here, it seems that mine is fine lol.
Thanks,

For anyone that's having a problem with their s-pen such as needing to press harder on the screen just for it to register or work to scroll etc etc take the s-pen out of the phone and hold it in your hand at the top near the clicker and take your other hand and FLICK it (kind of like if you were going to flick the back of someones ear, lol) pretty good a couple of times at the bottom near the TIP and then try to see if the sensitivity changes back to the way its supposed to be like on the older Notes.. It has something to do with the spring or something in there and if you flick it a few times pretty hard it fixes the spring holding the s-pen tip and then it'll work like a charm! Obviously don't try to flick it hard enough to break it people!
Thanks a ton. This worked for me. You are awesom man.
But is this a permanent fix or will I have to keep flicking the top part frequently?

So far it seems to be permanent to me but if it ever does it again it's just a simple flick so not really a big deal.. However if it does keep on doing it I would go to Samsungs website and request a new one because that's what I did Friday and they're sending me a brand new one free of charge.. The only reason I figured it out was because I started taping it on the desk while I was on the phone unconsciously doing it and then I needed to do something on the screen and I suddenly noticed it was fixed and I no longer had to press harder directly after taping it on my desk, hahaha!!

That's not the problem we were having ours was that we had to use too much pressure to get the pen to work and now I barely have to touch put any pressure at all before I would literally have to push the tip down pretty good for it to work and now I don't have to at all. But your suggestion might help someone else though.

Go into settings and then display and check and see what your settings are set to for "accidental touch protection and touch sensitivity" that might help.. Also you need to make sure one of your hands is not accidentally on the screen wherever you're holding the phone at.
