I have tried any and all 1 clicks i could find, attempted all old hacks i have from older root methods.
The only things i haven't tried are
• Exploits i did not find searching past 2 weeks every night for hours
• Anything that downgrades any software on phone
• Anything that installs custom recoveries
I am willing to downgrade and use an app like towelroot if it is possible, but with my firmware being from 2015, i'd be worried in following any downgrade methods (what few i have found for this phone) since none of them mention the ability to do it w/oa1.
to be honest, with such limited support for this phone in Google (especially since a 2015 kernel) I'm kind of scared doing anything major with it =/... I got the phone about 2 weeks ago, and have been trying to root it from day 1. The phone was a $0.99 phone from cricket to bribe me into staying with them( they just changed to GSM and screwed everyone over who had purchased a new phone recently, another story for a never to talk about time)
I would prefer to not trip Knox, but if it's a must then.... well... it's a must, isn't it...
any and all help would be highly appreciated.
Have you tried.motochopper? I'd give that a try. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40746664

I accidentally accepted an OTA update a couple of days ago that has really killed the performance of my phone G4. It' been very snappy up to this point. Apps take super long to open, and texting lags for several seconds. Reboots don't fix it, and I haven't added any new apps lately. Since the time the phone rebooted after the OTA update is when it's been having issues.
I'm assuming I'll have to root the phone, or wait for another OTA update to fix it. So, here's what I have:
Software version - L720VPUEMK2
Hardware version - L720.08

Since you don't have a custom ROM and aren't rooted this question might best be asked on a Sprint Forum.
I'd be that you have a load of stuff starting at startup (account synch's etc.).
My suggestion would be to spend a few days reading through these forums to understand how to root and add a custom recovery to this device.
Then maybe install an app like Titanium Root/Rom Toolbox etc., to look at what's starting, syncing etc and then freeze or uinstall some of the culprits.
Then maybe install a custom ROM - after you've read and read a bunch.
I can root it no problem. In fact, this is the first Android device that I haven't rooted (worked pretty well out of the box for my needs!) I was just trying to avoid doing that because I just have the time to reconfigure all of my accounts, transfer data, reinstall apps, software bugs and all that crap...
Hello!
I'm on my 3rd Android device and I've previously used Cyanogenmod just because it offers the Privacy Guard feature.
However, I didn't realize that this wonderful new-to-me AT& T Galaxy S 4 is substantially more complex when it comes to installing something such as CM. While I'm familiar with using a tool such as heimdall to install a custom recovery, such as TWRP, I haven't previously had to root before.
In going through the FAQ, it states that I should install Safestrap, but the page it links to doesn't include a version for NC1. In searching through the forums, I see that there are other root options, such as Towelroot, but, even if Towelroot works, I have no idea what to do after rooting with Towelroot.
So what I am hoping is that someone can kindly just map out the steps for me to get where I want, which is to have a Privacy Guard type feature on my phone, be it through CM or another ROM. And what I mean by 'map out' is that it isn't necessary to explain every detail of every procedure, just generally list what needs to be done and I can usually figure out the rest.
The phone is currently 'locked' to AT&T and here are the device details:

Hi, a friend has a Galaxy S5 (MetroPCS) he wanted me to unlock. He works at a hotel and any items found in rooms go to their "Lost and found" thing for a 60 day period. This was found and never claimed, so he wants to use it as his own. I've looked through it a bit and it appears it was used by a former drug dealer around town. Huzzah. Anyway.
It appears to already be rooted and has TWRP already installed, though still uses the stock ROM.
My questions are- How would I go about doing a fresh install on it? Also, is there a free way to unlock them or do I have to go through one of those unlock websites?

I see there's a newer version with 5.1.1. Would I be able to flash that without any major issues instead of the one already on it?

Upgrade it using Smart Switch.
Just an update- I successfully used SmartSwitch to upgrade the phone, kudos for that.
Also ended up going through cellunlocker.net to unlock it. They even sent an unfreeze code with it.
Hello guys,
I'm from China and bought my Droid Turbo 2 as a second hand item. That seller has disabled the software update function of it, so every time I tap on the software update option, it will "check for update", then tell me my system is "up to date", even until now I'm still on android 6.0, 24.14.11.kinzie_verizon.verizon.en.US version.
I tried to ask him how to repair it, and the only solution I got is factory data reset.
I don't want to lose any data on my phone, my contacts, sms, purchased apps and game progress, blablabla. Thought I can download the OTA files and update it with ADB, or maybe I can reverse the seller's modification on my phone. Could you guys please help me find the OTA files in the list:

Or maybe you can teach me to lift that fake 'check for update' curse? Thank you!
hello mate,
1.You could try to find the disable apps in "settings"-"apps" and enable them. especially look for the ones that have names like "update" or "system"
2. if that does not help, you might want to consider use the Software Upgrade Assistance (SUA) from Verizon.
Here is how to enable the SUA: https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-116673/
you could also check here: https://www.verizonwireless.com/dam/support/pdf/system_update/BPOD-H9887-SUA-moto-V7.pdf
3. Maybe someone who could pull the update and upload it, then you could flash it with RSD Lite software
Aight, so a couple of weeks ago I decided to finally accept the update that I always skipped, that pesky Android OREO (8.0) update was always harassing my notification panel and I finally decided to accept it and just update. What could go wrong?
After I updated, and saw that a few features were cool, I noticed something...
My phone was not charging even though it was connected to the charger. I tried airplane mode, I tried maximum power saving mode, I tried safe mode, I turned it off and nothing happened. It just didn't want to charge; some might say that it's just a battery issue, but I'm pretty sure that's not the case.
This happened right after I updated my lovely Nougat to Oreo.
So now I need help.

My phone is a SPRINT unlocked version, 32 gb. You can check out those specs; probably understand them a lot better than I do.
The thing is, I know that I'm going to have to root it in order to install a previous Android version (downgrade). I just don't want to take any risks with flashing the wrong firmware for my specific phone; I don't want to brick it.
So, can y'all please help me with choosing the right -my phone specific- firmware and stuff?
Giving me a step-by-step on how to successfully downgrade back to my 7.0 nougat would be a blessing too.
Thank You!

I cannot believe the charging problem is caused by Oreo. Try different chargers, and new USB cables. Google the issue to see if it's related to Oreo. If you are absolutely sure this is due to Oreo, then you may change it and root is not required.
Since the phone is still on bootloader 6, you may be able to downgrade to Nougat with the same version of bootloader. Flashing firmware is a complex process and phone may be easily bricked if anything goes wrong, so you need to understand what you are doing exactly. I would suggest to read thoroughly information related to Samsung Galaxy firmware update using Odin software. I usually get s7 firmware from two sites:
https://updato.com/
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s7/
Switch off your phone then try charging?

Well, ironically, my mother got a new -android- phone a couple of days ago and my phone charges pretty fine with her charger. I guess it WAS a charger problem, but my charger works perfectly fine on my father's phone and not on mine; strange.
The thing is, although it can now charge, the super battery drainage is still there, and yes, I'm convinced the quick battery drainage problem came along with the Oreo update. It lasted hours and hours on Nougat, but now on Oreo it barely gets to 3 hours and 30 minutes.
