After finally digging into the FFU and checking things, this really IS a true engineering ROM and NOT a developer ROM.

Is it flashable on Retail Roms ?
and also you have same rom for lumia 920 RM-821?
This is Lumia 820's FFU not Lumia 825 which is even not existing.

Also in text he said Engineering Rom and in Tittle he said Developer !
as I remember Engineering Roms are much different as developer one
@ngame @djtonka sorry for all the confusion! you guys are correct. This is for RM-825 devices, which is a specific variant of the Lumia 820. I was on mobile yesterday when I saw it, and wanted to post if quickly in case it magically disappeared. I think you are also correct in saying that it is a "Developer" rom and not an "Engineering" ROM based on the name of the tar.gz file. I will analyze it today or tomorrow and post back.
Yes, It is a Developer ROM. (WP 8.0 GDR 1)
But not useful until it's "OEM DEVELOPER UNLOCK".
No MS Apps nor developer app's like diagnostic tools.
No special drivers/services. Very simple ROM
@djamol @ngame @djtonka
After digging into it some more, I can confirm this is a REAL Engineering ROM and not a Developer ROM like I thought earlier. Sorry for all the confusion!

OK if you could find RM-821 Engineering rom I want it .
I will download it and will see it but I want to know it how did you find it's a Eng rom not a Developer one .
but I will check it .
@compu829 Don't mind, if I'm wrong. It's pure dev rom. There is also mentioned that version "Developer5". And so why it is signed ffu. ? Engg. Roms are like a more custom ROM'S.
@ngame you will find out more info in "OEM Device Platform Info" package's.
I've one question, what is a use of this ROM if we don't have an OEM unlock or Interop Unlocked.?
How we can use this as a REAL DEV ROM ?
Edit: At least can enable Mass Storage Mode ?

I want to see differences between these roms .
specially registry differences .
Developer signed Roms are flashable .
maybe I have to flash my phone from w10 back to 8.1 in these days and surely I will first try a dev rom to see if anything more presents or not
If we can enable mass storage mode all the things will solved as I know
because system files are not running so technically replacement of all files are allowed . (but where there's no sign check)

Even though it says "Developer5" it is really an engineering ROM. That threw me off, too. When I started looking at the "Platform ID", I discovered that it is for an engineering-only device.
I've tried flashing engineering rom on my Lumia 820 using windows phone image designer. It failed to install because of some security errors. So, I used thor2, disabled security check and was successful in flashing the rom. After flashing the phone is not booting anymore. It just vibrates and that's it. Not even Nokia logo is shown. I tried connecting phone to PC. But my PC is not even detecting the phone (in any mode, like QHSUSB_DLOAD). So, it is dead. Is there any way to recover the phone?

Hi there.
I have a P3301 and have been reading a lot of posts os people that has used "PDAMobiz_Dopod_P800W_AKU301_v1.1.2_PowerMap" in Artemis with locked CID.
Can this be possible?
Another question: is really nice to change the original ROM? I get some new features like more speed (without using overclock), and other apps?
Tank you.

Well...
I have a P3301... i´ve just buyed it. Wich ROM is more new and recommended for this device?
I was worried about the ROM wich i asked in first post, because the related posts about that, all were posted in 2007...
We are in final of 2008.... and i have a new device... So i wanted a more recent and complete ROM....
Tanks by the help....
well in my opinion and for WWE ROM try the following:
if you want a rom with manila i highly recomend FlyROM (the one in my segniture)
if you want a clean and best performance try the YuE v11.3 ExtraClean.
and there are other ROMs what i did not tried even they look good like gulloms and T.I.R
hope i was helpful
and remeber to CID UNLOCK your device first
CHEERS
Tanks a lot.
My first atempt wiil be the YuE v11.3 ExtraClean, because i wanna focus in performance. I am in middle of a .NET mobile development, and want to have a faster Smartphone to test my apps.
Tanks by reply... Other thing: CID locked devices really must bu unlocked first right? I tried unlocking by downloading a app that i get in this forum, but he doesn´t works in Windows Vista: doesn´t recognize my device during procedures... Windows Vista uses "Sync Center" and not "Active Sync"... does anyone had this problem using Vista?
Regards,
Tuschinski.
yes if you want to flash any ROM except your device original ROM you have to CID UNLOCK first...
and sorry i don't know how to do it in vista
maybe someone knows
In FlyROM, for example: does it updates just OS, or another features like radio, etc...?
no it doesn't the spl will remain .11 and the radio as it was before flashing
Can you explain to me waht the SPL initals mean?
IPL - Initial Program Loader, a bit like BIOS on a desktop.
SPL - Secondary Program Loader, the bootloader, which starts the OS.
and for the number as you know it's like a version and when it .111 it's unlocked as i know
sorry that is all i can tell cuz i'm not knowing alot about these

Hey tuscho!
Were you able to flash the new rom in your p3301 with success?
Hey guys im getting a chevron error that is saying the phone isnt connected. SDK installed, connected to zune, network connections turned off... idk what to do. Been searching everywhere and cant find anything. using xp SP3.
Same problem here. Tried all different kinds of variations with connections.
Using Windows 7 Ultimate.
Firstly, this is the dev forum (for posting dev work), there is a reason why these forums have Q&A sub-forums and I thought the reason would be obvious
Second, why are you even using chevron? All the latest roms are pre-unlocked so you have no need to use chevron unless you are still using the first build that was released.
Just re-flash to custom rom.
hmm... that's confusing. Well, I am using LEO7 or w/e... from a guide on here. Is that not right?
Secondly... I posted this in the Q&A forum, so what is the problem?
Thirdly, When trying to activate my HD2, should I just skip the step with chevron and continue to the registry editing? How can I see if my WP7 is unlocked?
Here is an example of one of the ROMS that is developer unlocked, which means you do not have to worry about Chevron and registry hacks. In theory, just input your activation code, and you should be ready to go.
Apparently the other poster lost track of which sub-forum he was in, so do not worry about that.

I still dont have to change the registry to make my phone identity a HD7? This rom I am using is developer unlocked now - can I contact Microsoft and get the key all the while telling them I have an HD7? How do I verify my phone's identity being an HD7?
Best thing for you to do is recheck the details about the ROM you installed. Most of the newer versions have the registry taken care of, so there is no need for you to change it to create the appearance of a version of Windows Phone 7. The information about your ROM should give you all the details, including the WP7 model number.

I looked at the ROM details and it said that it is Chevron hacked, and the registry edited. Doesn't specifically say the identity changed to an HD7. Chatting with microsoft, just got my key and I am giving it a try now. Will post results. Thanks guys.
Hi everybody , i am using an Asus P735 device with a German WM6 Rom installed on it. When trying to upgrade it to an English version 6.0 (since i was unable to find 6.1 for this device, which would definitely be preferable), i receive the following message:
"Cross-language upgrade is not Allowed. Please ensure the upgrade tool language is same as the default language of your device."
The thing is i don't want the "default language of my device". How can i get rid of it?
After lots of searches on the net, including on this forum, i've found no answers and in the few similar cases posted the users were left with no answer.
The Asus language unlock tools is of no help whatsoever on this phone.
Can anybody help me with this device?

for desktop PCs ! if you have by example W7 in French and want to put it in English - I mean to get English package by update- this will not work if you have an OEM license -this is not allowed!
so is that with OEMs if you want to keep license !
for your PDA you must find an unofficial English ROM only! also a way to write it to the phone BUT for this to work DO NOT use Active Sync!
I can't give you more details because don't have a PDA like yours but this problem is interesting

try a way to write firmware without Active Sync read this post to see you need some way like that
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-378907.html
ftp.asus.com/pub/ASUS/IA/P735 doesn't works more you have to find somewere a firmware in English as I see no longer Asus support they say this is deprecated sorry to hear that
Hi Ruscan and thank you for your interest in this topic, being the first person to react at all to this problem that has been left unsolved for many years, despite many other people posting about it earlier and who were left with neither solution nor answer/evidence of interest from the side of the developers. I do also think this is an interesting issue that could become even more actual in the future.
So far i was unable to find ANY unoffocial ROM for the P735. I do have the official one (Malaysia) in English though, from Asus's website, yet i do not know how to hack it and eventually install it. Furthermore, i was wondering whether an P750 or P535 ROM could work on a P735 with few modifications, cause the 735 is hardware-wise somewhere between the two.
I am ready to take the time to write the firmware myself yet i have no experience at all in that neither i know from where to start. If to write a new firware then it would be good to finally produce a WM6.1 version for this PDA, instead of the existing 6.0. How to do that, any idea?
Thank you for your explanation and for making this non-sense situation a little bit more clear.
PS: Also, i've read somewhere that the device won't turn-on anymore if upgraded to a different language, does that apply to an update via SD-card as well?
PS2: Installing the Android system on this device would be an option?
..i wonder what would ASUS.UnlockLangID.exe do with your problem..
what's this all about:
p525 had similar problem, that could result in NOT real bricking of device after flash(wrong languague version after reset - device seem to be locked on bootloader then). when tool is used before flash, custom lang roms are working properly(interesting then, what this tool does, btw, as it is launched from WM - so, it may be microflasher, or sth like that).
now...i have strong feeling, that warnings you read about flashing different lang rom, may be related to this ridiculous, small, problem.
issue is, that i do not know, if ASUS.UnlockLangID.exe may help with p735, OR if there's version made for p735.
update: i read this again, slowly:
"Cross-language upgrade is not allowed. Please ensure the upgrade tool language is same as the default language of your device."
...they tell you about upgrade TOOL, not rom.
hmmm, so.. what, if you use tool in languague of...ROM?
maybe unlocklangid code is inside flasher, so using proper updater with proper rom is simple solution?
on the other hand - i am making roms for asuses for years, and i never used default flash method - vide usbloader method(and force mode from BL).
i am not going to encourage you to go this way of thinking, but...

sorry this is just to test my signature will be back but I do not think Android is an option for your phone it is all about technical specs to port Android on that phone and only Asus will have that
by example I know about a project named Andromnia this is how to use Android on Omnia-WM phone
nice try!! but believe me this is about reverse engineering and does not works for now- no gps/gprs/wifi signal and Android crashes
funny, that andromnia showed me, asus user, that android could be real for REAL PDA's.
andromnia works on p750 when proper kernel is used,

sooo..it seems, that updater BUG is reason, not roms itself here.
funny is, that rom cooking for this machine is quite real, if tools i can see are working.
--------------
upd: ok, so, if i see it right, all you need is to:
fully charge battery,
extact exe, get abi,
copy abi to empty sd card(NOT SHDC!),
go to bootloader(hard to say how - try dpad right + soft reset) and
wait.
when update's done, do hard reset.
--------------
of course, i cannot say at this moment, if whole process is safe, it works fine with zinc device(that seem to have identical flash procedures and SAME cross-lang error when manufacturer way of flashing is used(exe)).
i will try to get more info from my mate asap. cross your fingers, and wait a bit.
here's tool you may try to get abi file from original asus updater EXE file:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=368401
if it's not working, there's another one, maybe more universal,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=511158
btw, are you from Pakistan?
Thanks all of you for your input.
1 - There is NO AsusUnlockLangID.exe for Asus P735 - do not know why.
The one from P535 or P525 is useless on this phone.
2 - Great point about "same-upgrade-tool-language-possibility" yet the official ROM comes in an .exe file that i do not know how to unpack/hack in order to insert the correct ROM or vice-versa.
Could you provide me with some insight for that?
3 - Besides that, do you think a tweaked P750 ROM could work on this phone, or a hybrid P535/735? Wouldn't that be the best/easiest solution, which would in the same way finally create a more advanced ROM for this quite neglected device? The older P535 has even 6.5 ROMs whereas P735 is limited to the basic 6.0. (Does that have any advantage by the way?)
4 - I am open to any way of flashing, given it provides the right result so all your advices are welcome.
Yes, the author is very present
@Pupakota
Ok, thank you, i've just read your last answer. I'm gonna try the tool you're talking about and inform you of the result.
PS: No, i'm not from Pakistan though i love the country, are you from there?
PS2: Any way to port the 6.1 version to P735, to kill two flies in one shot ?

p750 is different pair of shoes, nothing would be useful in this case. do not try any roms made for different devices(trivia, i know).
-----
i dare to say, that any rom is possible for 735... while searching info, people made every possible build, including 6.5's...ALL chinese :E
rom from exe is exctractable, then fully dumpable, packages are clean and good...
btw, that ABI file is just a renamed rom.bin...
while Activesync method of EXE flashing is wrong, only way of avoiding problem is using SD card flash method then by using that pseudo "abi" file.
dpad to right + softreset should start flash procedure. if not, it may be some key on the right side of the device + soft reset(hard to understand translated chinese...).
but before you decide to try...
could you, AsusP, make photo of bootloader mode?
and please, post link of exe file you were trying to flash, i need it(i mean this english one). for some reason dumped rom from "WWE" version seem to be...hebrew... i really would extract real english rom.
now, only problem is, that besides of one case i did not see any clear information, if sd flash with languague change is safe.
one person wrote it is.
Hi, i'll get back to you ASAP regarding other questions, in the meanwhile here is the link of the firmware in question (that i'm trying to use) :
http://support.asus.com/Download.as...e=P735_FUU_Malaysia.zip#P735_FUU_Malaysia.zip
yup, this one seems to be exactly like one i tried to extract, indeed, it's wwe.
damn, it's OLD
it seems, that cooking custom roms is possible for this device without special problems. new 6.1 or 6.5 should work MUCH faster, than your actual one, or that wwe from asus...
try to make photo of bootloader, and tell me, which version of 735 do you have, 64 mb or 128 mb of ram?
ahh and one last question: do you have original updater with german version of rom, that you CAN flash(i mean, that you have now, in your device)? it may be neccesary, if you ever dare to make further experiments.
"try to make photo of bootloader, and tell me, which version of 735 do you have, 64 mb or 128 mb of ram?"
It is 64MB RAM, same as all Asus P7XX devices i guess, if not upgraded (mine is not).
Sorry, but how do you make photos of the bootloader? Do you mean the update tool?
"ahh and one last question: do you have original updater with german version of rom, that you CAN flash(i mean, that you have now, in your device)? it may be neccesary, if you ever dare to make further experiments."

Bootloader mode flash(with unpacked from exe rom image on sd card) seem to be Only way to update your device.
I am trying to determine risk linked to this method, so i need photo of LOOK of bootloader mode.
You may enter BL mode by pressing dpad RIGHT and making soft reset, if i am right.
then something should appear, and this is what i want you to photograph it for me(with..camera).
of COURSE, do not put abi image on sd card YET, otherwise you start to update, and we do NOT know yet, if you brick your machine or not.
so, at this moment i just ant to see hot it look like, without flashing, if its typical 525/750 bootloader, not some weird thing, i'd assume, that abi file flashing should not brick machine.
sorry or enigmatic words, cannot explain this easier way.
It is 64MB RAM, same as all Asus P7XX devices i guess, if not upgraded (mine is not).

..so not all 735's have 64 mb ram, i'd say, ok?
look, i do not know nothing about your knowledge level, many users of 750's with 128 mb ram are using 64 mb version of roms(typical noob would have no idea to try any different), this is why i mentioned it...
btw, besides using GanFan-ZincROMXtractor's easier way of obtaining rom file from exe is just using restorator, reshack, or similar tool to extract rom at res 152.
result is identical as using zincromextractor, though name of file must be set manually - it is Mars_G4.abi (though, it is not..real abi file, but it doesn't matter).

Hey guyz ... Howz all doing. okie here's the deal. I am new to this whole Windows Phone 7 stuff used to play a lot with the HTC Elfin i had with WM6.1.
Tried a lot of stuff on Transformer too.
Now itz time for Samsung Focus , as my first Windows Phone Device.
I have read countless articles on this forum but still have a few doubts remaining.
1) Can the 8107 Mango bootloader be replaced with MAGLDR or it will screw up the device ?
2) Is it ok to flash MAGLDR & Custom ROM with an external MicroSD card inside ?

*BUMP* Please Help me ASAP Guyz....
That's because when you flash MAGLDR/custom roms, you do it on your own and accept the risks.
And yes, you might not be able to restore. In theory, you should be able to restore after flashing back a stock ROM, but I for one haven't tested/verified that.
Remember, all these are on your own risk

Thanks for the Replies. One last question, say I got a SIM unlocked device and I flash MAGLDR & Custom ROM, will it ask again for an unlock code ?? ....

No it won't.SIM unlocks are not written on the rom or firmware. So it can't be erased by flashing.

I have to redirect that to my sig:
"Before asking questions, please read the Samsung Focus wiki and search the forums!"
Quote from the wiki:
Formatting, Flashing, upgrading, downgrading OS and firwmare doesn't affect Network lock (SIM lock).
Locks are in NVRAM - you do not overwrite this section by flashing firmware or formatting.
If the device is already SIM unlocked, flashing/updating/downgrading/formatting/etc the ROM will keep the phone unlocked.
Thanx a lot for all the help will flash tango tnite
Hoping not to brick my newly acquired device
Installed MAGLDR
Installed CleanROM !!
Profit!!
Anyone heard about M9+ S-Off method in development?
It would be very nice to have that so we can change carrier ID.
At the moment we can't change from chinese to asia wwe or Taiwan etc etc firmwares or just CIDs, and thus who has a chinese CID in the aboot partition is bound to get Chinese news on blinkfeed. (I've gathered some information and this is the situation: blinkfeed is working with carrier id of the phone and other language resources. Read about this on E8 and chinese m8 phones, but now there's a solution for this with custom rom and mod, look up in this forum, CleanSlate or Mod Sense Home...)
I'd be willing to donate if S-Off would become possible. Of course we don't have the kernel sources yet, so it's very improbable that someone would be working on it already, but let's just start a discussion about this.
UPDATES:
So what we know so far,
- there's the JCard method possible which needs a service or a JCard at home
- the bootloader is type ABoot
- no method yet for s-offing without JCard
- no kernel sources out yet for the phone
J card works.
so far, only java card works
Thanks good to know about JCard thing!
Hopefully when kernel sources will be out, some brute force method can be found to access the protected partition and flip it to S-Off.
It would be nice to have a method that can be done with only software and PC.
There's been a recent dump of kernel sources yesterday on http://www.htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads but not the m9pw yet. Hope they release it soon enough, so someone can look at it. Hopefully a hoard of M9+ users would be willing to donate for the one who brings such method. I'll be first in line to donate.
Maybe there's already a similar device with MTK and similar boot loading mechanism cracked?
Do someone know if there were any other HTC device with MTK chipset S-Offed without JCard, like S-Off with revone and such methods?
Not sure if the sunshine boys are going to be working on s off on the plus but those guys would probably be the ones who do it, their stomping ground is Qualcomm however
I have access to HTC Authorized service in my City. These guys already have J Card but unfortunately the don't have detailed guideline how to deal with M9 +
They said that in another MTK HTC devices there is a option in the bootloader mode (Sim lock) and they are doing official S off in this menu, but there was no Sim lock Menu in M9+ bootloader.
If someone knows how to deal with this issue I will continue my attempts for S Off.

Nice! What's your intentions? Do you want to try to convert your phone to another region's full firmware? There's some risk in that, we don't exactly know if the hardware from China and the other regions are fully the same and compatible, like the radio unit. I guess they are, I didn't have any issues running the phone on Asia WWE firmware or European, but I didn't (and couldn't because of S-On on my device) try a full conversion with all the S-On protected partitions of the phone. I only could flash boot/recovery/data and system, but there's a lot more of different partitions related to the hardware functionality.
Practically with s-off you can overwrite the CID (carrierid) to supercid (1111111 or something like that ) of your phone and thus you can convert flash any other regions full RUU firmware zip from 'fastboot oem rebootRUU' mode. Then you can receive OTAs of that different regions.
Otherwise being s-off means nothing much more than that opportunity.
Also probably you could unlock the sim lock to a certain phone company if your sim is bound to a phone company, on an S-Offed device you can do that. But I'm not sure how that's done.

Please give us some more details.
As far as i understand - you connect the jcard, reboot in bootloader, and enter that command?
Thanks!
I have one from UAE. I did everything to s-off this device but no luck until now. It did not work with jcard. I have version 1.61.401.6 installed. Now, I see some people had luck with m9+ from other regions. I mean is it region related or something? I even did unlock my bootloader, installed twrp and rooted my device just to try that sunshine's method. Unfortunately sunshine's method did not work either. Now my question is,, If Taiwanese or Chinese versions can be s-off with jcard, how can I install their software version? Why can't I s-off my m9+ ? I really appreciate if people shared their s-off experiences.
Sorry for the ignorrance, but from where can I get Jcard? I see there a lot of people in here have it.
Also can a Java Card or Jcard be emulated on a PC?
