[Q] any chance to streaming the phone on a TV? - Galaxy S3 Neo Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there! I was wondering, since there is no mhl or otg, how can I stream my phone on a TV? Is there any app or mod (with an external device Linked to the TV) that allows me to use my TV an external monitor?

[Q] DLNA question

The GNote is dlna compliant is it not?
So I'm wondering why when I connect to my dlna samsung tv, the only drive I can see browsing via the tv is the 2.8 gb phone root.
I have no access to the 11gb extended phone memory or the sd card.
Has anyone managed to connect to their dlna tv and access all their memory locations?
And if so can you please explain how you did it?
Heres hoping.
I'm bumping this topic back to the front page to keep it current.
I was honestly expecting to find all the phones drives by simply connecting to my dlna tv with usb.
This is such a handy feature of dlna that I feel it must be do'able with the GNote, what with it being dlna certified, that I can't help but feel that it must be something that I am not doing or doing wrong.
I could browse and play all the media files, including the sd card on my old HD2 through my tv simply by attaching the phone to the tv via a usb cable.
I cant however with the sammy.
Here is hoping that some Guru can pin this down.
Regards.
DLNA is wireless media streaming there is no USB connection involved
Try the Allshare app included

What no direct cable connection? I clearly need to brush up on my wifi.
Was looking for the functionality of simply plugging my device into the tv then accessing the memory of the phone and playing the media while charging the unit. Seems to me that there is a trick there that's been missed.
Dank U wel for your response wonderwout, I'll investigate this further.
Regards.

For getting media on your tv quick Allshare over wifi is pretty good. Start a media file on your phone when in the player hit "share" from the menu and select Allshare. It will ask you to select a target device, select your tv and your set. You need to have it all on same network off course.
can anyone post dlna.apk from stock rom, please?

Yes sir, you are right DLNA isnt wifi specific though. DLNA only means media over network, be it cable or wireless doent matter. But it doesnt cover usb/mass storage mode file access.
But plugging in the note and chosing to allow usb access should put up two drives, one being the internal 16gig flash memory and a second one representing the sd card. I reckon your TV is not able to access two drives and instead just mounts the first one available with no way to switch.
If possible, update TV firmware and also, if possible, use DLNA. The TV needs network cspabilities for thst to work though...

When I connect my note to my PS3 using ALL SHARE, I am able to see the note on the PS3 menu. I am even able to play videos on the PS3 wirelessly. But I am not able to see the PS3 on the ALL SHARE app in the note. All it shows is No Device.
What am I doing wrong?

I think that PS3 is only a dlna client and not a server.

[Q] Nexus 7 to TV question

HI guys,
I just wanna know, how can i connect my device to tv?
Is there wired connection? what about wireless connection?
What are the things i need?
For example, my tv is Samsung LED Series 5?
What are the things i can do after connecting:
- can i access my device as a storage device?
- can i play a movie to my device and have it displayed in my tv?
Thanks in advance
With the app Mediahouse (pro) you can stream movies from your tablet to you tv (netwerk).
you can choose to stream content to your tablet of from your tablet to your tv (if i'm correct)
New or old n7? This is easily found anywhere online. Old n7 can't mirror it's screen to the TV except with a mod for miracast (this mod is new). This mod doesn't work on 4.3 yet and requires supported hardware on the TV too.
What does work is dnla or upnp, which sends local media to the TV - movies, music, photos that are stored locally not streamed. Many apps support this and lots of hardware does too.
New n7, you can use slim port cable to mirror the screen

[Q] Hdmi INPUT? Possible to use N10 as monitor?

Just wondering if it's possible to use nexus 10 as essentially a portable hdmi monitor. I would like to Sometimes play console in lounge without taking up the TV and just wondered if it's possible to connect console to nexus basically... I already have a HDMI to mini HDMI lead... Wireless would be even better although not essential... Briefly investigated screen cast but seems like this is only designed to wirelessly stream to a TV (which already has hdmi input)
Many Thanks,
Sam.
Ps my N10 is currently not rooted although I would consider rooting if it would enable such a possibility

N10 is designed for OUTPUT only.
That said, it's resolution is high enough that it would be a cool feature, but it's OUTPUT only.
Thanks for the reply I figured that might be the case, any ideas if its possible in a virtual sense? Ie plug a transmitter into console or other hdmi output and have it transmit the signal which can be picked up in an app like YouTube (but source is generated from transmitter rather than the Web)
Thanks again

Only solution I know of right now is Onlive, but then you have to pay for the game AND a subscription.

This might be possible, depending on what you want to play.
If it's a DVD/blu ray, you can stream that on a local wifi network with VLC on a computer, and play it on MX player on your tab, just point MX to the address of the stream.

I'm after doing it without a intermediary computer, that said I'm currently looking into hdmi to composite adapter into a raspberry pi and using that to stream to network and picking it up via this mx player you mentioned...

That could be possible, but yikes! HDMI to composite is like going back light years of technology!
But yeah I've wanted to do the same in the past, to run my GameCube without a TV.
I ended up with a LCD hdtv with hdmi, component, composite and vga, so I just use that (mostly for my PS3 now).
I actually just ordered a pi last week!
I'm going to use it as a file server with a 1.5TB usb drive, and also a Wi-Fi repeater, on top of that, a torrent box (qBittorrent with http remote interface).
Gl though with the video thing!

Does Shield help with my streaming needs?

I recently bought a Samsung Smart TV and I am trying to create a media hub to attach my external hard drive to so I can watch them on my TV. I want to know if I can use Shield to attach 8 TB hard drive with all my movies and shows on it and watch them on the samsung tv in 4K. I also want to be able to wireless transfer files to/from my external drive using laptop. I tried watching with my laptop (connected via HDMI) and it buffers when it comes to 4K. So does shield help me with this or do I need a different device for this?
I thought the purpose of "smart" TVs was that they could do streaming and such by themselves?
It can stream but content such as 4K buffers because there just isn't CPU power inside them.
The Shield should be able to do that, but I haven't tried it so I can't say for certain. You'll need to connect it to your laptop by the micro-USB cable or install a server app to transfer files.
I want to stream it using content on my external usb drive. So that way I don't have to keep my laptop on all the time. Can I just plug my external drive to one of the USB ports on to the shield and stream it directly? Will there be any buffering or any type of lag when doing this? (Again this is with 4K content)
I can't answer that because I don't have a 4K TV, but it has a fast processor and plays 1080p content just fine. A quick benchmark put the USB3 read speed at about 95 MB/sec.
It can definitely handle 4K media, it is even somewhat future proofed with support for HDR 4K video. There isn't really an easy way to share files from your laptop to it with the Harddrive plugged into the SHIELD TV. I would recommend buying a NAS and connecting your drive unto that since all the NAS will do is send the files over your network to the SHIELD TV. As long as you either have an AC router or gigabit ethernet you should be fine.
Do you recommend any cheap NAS that works? Does it need to have processing power for encoding streams? Or that is done via Shield?
Synology products are nice. You order the hard drive(s) separately.

Connecting nexus 6p to tv

Unfortunately I don't think itll work--mhl not supported. Your only option is probably to get a chromecast, or I have a nexus player that performs the same function--mirror display, cast.
Both can be had for pretty cheap, especially if you go with a used one on ebay. More money than an adapter, but not unreasonably more. Plus you can stay seated instead of walking to the TV.
So my only choice is the chromecast, isn't it? I have some questions about it. Can I watch on tv everything which i am watching on my phone? For example if one webpage have a video (non in youtube) and i open it via bsplayer or video gallery or something else, can i watch it on full screen on tv?
Thank you for helping.

I dont own a chromecast, and I use fire tvs as my main streaming devices (lousy casting functionality except youtube & netflix). But I have played around with casting on nexus player. Id check to make sure it does what you want before buying but rule of thumb--if you see a cast icon in an android app/within the video box itll cast that video to the chromecast device. OR if you go into settings>display>cast --you can choose your chromecast device and itll mirror your phone screen to TV. Good luck

Yes you can I can confirm this. I have Chromecast, I just mirror my phone to the screen and everything I do on my phone it shows on the Chromecast connected to the TV
I just got my 6p,i have my oneplus 2 and nexus 7 which has no problem with casting on my tv.Unfortunately google has disabled to "enable wireless display" option. I heard you can enable it if you root you're phone but for now i dont want to root my phone yet.
