[Q] I9505 android 5 battery issue - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello All,
i just updated to official android 5.0 (got the update this weekend) using the OTA.
After update the my s4 is very slow, and on top of that the battery is very poor. 5h with nearly no use i have lost 80% of battery.
What could i do?
I searched to disable fast dormancy (like on 4.4.2) but can't find anything.
I have an official build no root or nothing.
Any suggestion?
Thanks

Many people had issues after OTA update. Some could solve them by flashing the same firmware with Odin. Others had to factory-reset their phone.

Thanks for the reply
If i flash with odin i loose warranty?
Factory reset it not my favorite solution for now, i need the installed application and not possible before end of the week to reinstall all of them (i'm travelling)
Other tips?

No, if you flash an official stock firmware with Odin you don't lose warranty. So I would try it first.

Flashed the latest update /how to remove?

Hi guys, I recently flashed the latest update on my i9500 (the one that enables you to move apps to sd) I downloaded the update and flashed it using Odin. But I can no longer do an OTA update, whenever I check it says something like "Device is modified unable to update". It also says under device status as "Custom". BTw, I completely wiped my device but the flashed update still remains. I rooted BTw and using persues kernel if it matters.

Go to sammobile.com and find the firmware of your region and flash it.
Sent from my GT-I9500
Did you used to be rooted before you flashed the update with Odin?
In that case you'll probably have to re-root your device, run Triangle Away by chainfire to reset the counter and then flash the latest official firmware from sammobile. That ought to get you back to official status.

No, I rooted straight away after I flashed the update. So I can just run triangle away and flash the firmware for my region?

Worth a shot. It'd be interesting to see if it's even increased the counter. But.. if the right firmware isn't available on sammobile yet.. what'd you flash? And where did you get it?
Hi,
There is no Triangle Away for the i9500.
Once you root it ,there is no way to get it back to "Official"
Hence, you cannot get OTA
To get the firmware you want, look HERE

Yeah just bought it and quickly refunded as soon as I found d out its incompatible so does this mean I have to flash all the future update? Or wait for triangle away to be compatible I guess.

Djembey has an official status mod that u can use to stay rooted but have official status. I have done this on the latest rom for I9500, and it works. My device and binary status are still official, OTA works, and I am rooted.. You may need to flash the mod a couple of times and factory reset/wipe cache, but this works 100%.

Hey thanks for the link, but wouldn't I still need to run triangle away? Which isn't compatible?

Yes, thats true. My understanding is that using triangle away may become relevant when you want to return your phone to Samsung for warranty, but until then this method works perfectly for making the phone run almost like a stock unrooted phone.

[Q] Your device has been modified..

Hey People,
i previously rooted my phone on stock firmware along with changing the kernel. I have no restored and removed root back to stock but i get this message when doing a OTA update as i need the latest update to enable 4G on my phone. It says Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available. How do i go about fixing this? I have done some research and used the triangle app to reset the flash counter which now says Official rather then Custom In download mode? If i flash the firmware does it automatically Re flash my Kernel or is that separate? I have looked for the stock i9505 kernel i Just cant seem to find it.
Will appreciate the help
Thanks

flash stock firmware, stock kernel included
It's normal that it says that. Just install Xposed framework, then Wanam Xposed, there is an option to fake the system status as official and thus you'll be able to update firmware OTA.

Thank you for your answer, but unfortunately I can't use Kies since I use Linux and there is no Kies for Linux. May be another solution like adb?
Have u tried factory reset in stock recovery. I had this when I flashed official fw with odin. Was not untill I reset that the prob went away

I wiped the data, without success, then I flashed everything again with Heindall 1.4.0, then wiped everything again. Now I have official status and should receive OTA updates.
Edit: but after rooting the official status is lost. Now I think this may be normal.

Flash 4.3 over 4.2.2?

Hi,
since updating to KK I have a load of issues on KK based roms. I always get a "remote controls stopped working " message at start up. Randomly wifi stops working and won't switch back on and also all my sensors stop working.
I have done factory reset multiple times and installed stock roms but always have the same issue.
Thinking of going back to 4.3 if that's possible? Any ideas guys, please?

How did you update?
You can't go back so perhaps refreshing 4.4.2 will help. Beyond that you're kind of stuck.

Who here have downgraded to kitkat from lollipop

I did mine because of xposed and also I think I encountered several crashes on Lollipop.
I tried to give lollipop a chance but after 2 weeks and a couple of hard resets the battery life was still significantly worse than Kit Kat.
Flashed back yesterday and after investing 3 hours setting everything back up I'm really happy with my decision. Battery life is looking good again and I now realise that you loose more than you gain from running lollipop in is present state.
Can you downgrade without root? I know I've tried to downgrade from BOC5 to BOC3 with Odin and didn't work.

I was able to go from BOC2 to AOA1 via Odin full firmware flash on the sm-n910u.
Maybe you could try going back to 4.4.4 and then up to BOC2.

You should be able to. The root has no effect on Odin. Did you set it to download mode first?
It was giving me a headache but it's simple... Go into recovery while still on lollipop and do a factory reset, then a cache wipe, then do your Odin, it works no problem.

i am seriously thinking about downgrading back to kitkat !!
Can i just download the KITKAT from sammobile and flash it via odin (after a factory reset and cleared cashes in recovery?)
another question, i want to root if i got back to kitkat, but on the website of chainfire the root file is made for android 5.0.1, can i root my Kitkat with this autoroot file ???
and do you know if Blurred UI (Xposed) works on kitkat ?
i dont like the UI on kitkat very much
Thanks in advance !
You will need to find the correct version of cf autoroot for the version of android. at least on my F version i did.

i read somewhere that you have to do something with the bootloader to succesfully downgrade back to kitkat, is this true ?
Almost downgraded back to kitkat because of battery life, factory reset saved lollipop. Now it's smooth and battery life is much better

I did two factory resets and my battery life was still up the fugg. Apparently there is a known bug in lollipop that keeps apps awake and polling mobile data even when they aren't using it (or something like that). Even if your battery life is better after the reset I doubt it's back to kit Kat levels.

so i downgraded succesfully !
Yeah !
but i cant root with the autoroot file from chainfires website, it fails.. it says something about recovery...
i dont think this has anything to do with it but, i downloaded the stock firmware from sammobile from Vodafone ( my phone was vodafone but on lollipop roms i downloaded the unbranded version) could this maybe be the problem ?
i fixed it, reactivation lock was still enabled ( i wanted to go to fast )
I downgraded because of Xposed and a better battery life

I too shall be downgrading, I have really tried with Lollipop but its a bag of ****, my phone is laggy and the performance is terrible, I get about 6 hours less battery, this is after doing 3 factory resets now lol.
I know that the OD builds are meant to be better but Samsung have fudged the general LP rollout.
Rolled back yesterday and soooo relieved. My apps aren't being killed off, and I don't have horrendous Antutu.
Lollipop IS pretty though, KitKat is so Boring! Still, I'll wait for a better update, I'm very happy.

Rolled back too, and there is such a big difference in touch response and general performance. Staying on Kitkat until they sort out Lollipop.

I wonder if i can roll back? I am on n910g india model completely stock.

yes bug is there. apps can drain battery but eventhough i have 100 apps or something it only happens me with twitter and nba game time app. so battery can be changed by people cuz they use different apps. battery is great for me in lollipop alteast its totaly same with kitkat still 6 hours sot easyly.
general performance is way better in lollipop i compared it alot of times lollipop is much responsive smoother and faster in everywhere for me.

Note 3 (SM-N9005) reboots after installing Apps

Hi. I got a problem here. Whenever the phone finishes install an app (from Play Store), my phone would just reboot randomly. Is there any solution for this.
Thank you.
My Note 3 (SM-N9005) is running on Android 5.0 (Lollipop) / Not Rooted.
Weird issue. How long have you been running your current firmware?
Don't want to sound too obvious but maybe you'll need factory reset

I used this firmware for a few months already. I tried downgrading to Android KitKat (4.4.2), the issue wasn't present, until after I updated my Note 3 to Lollipop. I have just factory reset 2 days ago, by the way.

The Lollipop Update was an OTA update. And yes, I have flashed the correct firmware for my region.
Try flashing the entire ROM twice with Odin with a factory reset between each flash.
Stock ROMs can be found at updato.com or sammobile.com.
Yeah..me also got same issue as yours with official lollipop rom..
After flash custom roms..all issue gone
Dont know oso why...
Is there any Samsung Stock Ported ROMS for Note 3 (N9005) that I can install on my device?

Not sure what you mean by Stock Ported .
Samsung stock based custom roms are in the Android Development section .
