I could patiently wait another month if it was confirmed by another developer but as it is right now I am dying with anticipation! Lol Anyone else feel the way I do? To my Knowledge there is No Way possible to Root the Verizon Note 4 without Bricking it. I'm 99% sure that is the case
Locked bootloader
Verizon and AT&T have locked bootloaders so there is little you can do.
NEVER buy a phone there.
This article says it can be done but I am more sceptical then you are about it.
I'd be surprised if it did work.

Hmmm, interesting, Lollipop, Blaze's, Root, does anyone else see the irony here lol?
But wait, what if we reversed it to crack the code! hahahaha
Being really silly sorry mates
I decided that I would sell my N4 Verizon and get a sprint N4 unlock the carrier and root it for Verizons network. Then blaze said he cracked Verizon so I waited now I'm pissed.
Going back to plan B

I was going to try this, but I got worried that I would brick my new phone when I saw the firmware is different. Chainfire's method uses XXUAMD2 firmware. My Build Number is JDQ39.I337UCUAMDB. It is close, but not the same.

they want someone stupid to try it out instead of them and report their success or failure first lol
im sure most people dont even have this phone yet because its not out. Mine does not arrive till tommorow
I thoiught I saw a post in the Development thread that this method does not work - I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure that is the case, unfortunately. I have faith that Chainfire of someone will get us rooted soon enough - (hell, I don't even have my S4 yet - won't arrive until tomorrow
But - Unless I had seen someone else had successfully rooted using any method, I do not think I would even think about being the first one to try it. lol
How long before the AT&T source code is released? We should be able to get a work around once we have that.
This will be my first Android phone that didn't have root before it was released, and I've bought nearly all of them on release date, taken it home, and rooted it before doing anything! I won't be selling my SIII right away since it looks like I'll be using it until we get a successful root out of this sucker....
Getting mine on Saturday if all goes to plans, willing to help test as well! I have 60 days to return it if it breaks, hahah

Yea i can't officially switch till root. S4 just arrived. Will see if I can get some root on here.
Just got mine an hour ago. Apparently, thanks to AT&T, the bootloader is locked, which could complicate the root method considerably
I was talking to live chat with Motorola support and managed to get connected to an employee who seemed to not care that the chat session was monitored.
I was asking about general stuff related to my battery and the Turbo. Towards the end of the chat I figured this guy might have some kind of idea whats going on in the company that he works for. So I asked about the release date for 5.0.
He answered very enthusiastically and hinted that Motorola is ready to release the update and that the only thing next on their list is to select an official Advert with Verizon. From the sound of it - we will not be experiencing the usual delay that Verizon has created for updates. Expect Lollipop on your Droid Turbo by December 1st.
Me personally. I'm waiting for root and boot unlock. But for all of you happy with Lollipop the wait is not too long.
Lets see if this all plays true come December 1st.

Yeah, with JCase saying that Sunshine V3.0 can't support Motorola on 4.4.4, and the secure kernel crap that will block root on Lollipop, I think this phone will stay stock unless a Chinese middleman pops up again or something.
Guys just realize you can kiss any hope of an unlock and root exploit goodbye if you update. It's going to suck; either choose unlock or 5.0
I pretty much left root behind when I got the Turbo. Moved to the share plan so I don't need the hotspot hack. I used TiBu a lot moving from phone to phone and ROM to ROM but I really didn't have much data that I had to have. Mostly when I was listening to back catalogs of Podcasts I would want to restore the app I was using so it kept my place. Now I have moved on to something different. And I did lose some game data but it was stupid stuff like Temple Run and Monsters Ate My Condo, nothing like an RPG or something. And really thats what root did for me. I am ready for 5.0.
I also think that the 5.0 update will have VoLTE. Maybe they got Google to roll it into 5.0 so instead of hitting each device individually with a VoLTE update, if they get 5.0 they will also get VoLTE (and it brings the Nexus 6 on VoLTE faster as well).

Chainfires detailed post on how root will more than likely (read; definitely) going to need a custom kernel to work. Kernel flashes need an unlocked bootloader. 5.0 comes with even more selinux restrictions which make any kind of exploitation harder. All in all, 5.0 is way more locked down and harder to unlock. Simply getting a root exploit without unlock is not likely
So what will Lollipop mean for us Verizon GS5 users? Will we loose Root if we upgrade?
No. Just have to wait for stock image to come to Verizon. Root will always be achievable on the S5. Now the boot loader, I don't think will ever be unlocked on this phone

With Verizon's track record on tightening the noose on root I would not say this. All they need to do is make the firmware so you can not revert to a earlier version and you are up the creek without a paddle when you need to revert to stock.
You really see Odin going anywhere? If they wanted to do what your saying they could have done it along time ago. Yes I agree they have the ability, but probability is very unlikely. What would really suck is if they started simply pushing developer phones meaning if you want to do anything you have to pay for the special developer phone

they very much so have locked BL to where you couldnt revert to an older BL.. the vzw s4 is a perfect example.. if you updated past mdk unlocked BL you couldnt go back hence why they got SS..
As for the S5 5.0 update they have rooted it over on the international thread.. my suggestion would be to wait for a update.zip to flash with root then odin the firmware just like we do today.. if that doesnt work then were all screwed lol
So why exactly is it that we'll probably never get an unlocked bootloader?

I don't see Odin going anywhere bit it's useless for root if they do increment the bootloader like they do on nearly all of their devices. The S5 is the only new Samsung device they haven't locked down like fort knox. We'll just have to wait and see what happens with future updates to this device. Hopefully they will leave it as it is but I wouldn't count on it. The way Android security is going we may just have to buy a developer phone to enjoy root in the future. I just wish Verizon would offer them on contract or the Edge program to take the sting out of the cost.

Still trying to get root. A Samsung help person told me the bootloader was locked by default and there was no unlock method. (Posted screen cap in another thread) but that doesn't make sense. Either she didn't read my text when I said I had the developer edition or she was clearly too dumb to qualify for the job she had. Anyone have one of these they want to sell? Been looking everywhere.
Anyone?
I have a Verizon Galaxy Note 3. with Android Version: 4.3, Jellybean... I have avoided updating to Kitkat since I had heard that it was "unrootable" at this point.
Recently, I cracked the screen on my phone and would like to get an insurance replacement from Asurion. I am worried that I may get a phone from them with Kitkat on it. (or maybe even Lollipop?)
What are my options for keeping root?
IF I get a phone that still has Jellybean on it, is my best option for getting Lollipop+Root, to install Safestrap on my phone, and then install something like JasmineROM?
Thanks!
This happened to me. They'll send you one with 5.0 or 4.4.4 NK1. Ended up just buying an LG G3 full retail and keeping the note 3 as a spare.

I would personally look into the cost of having your screen replaced.
Asurion is going to charge you $100. deductible if I'm not mistaken.
Plus you will more than likely get a phone with at least 4.4.4 on it and maybe even lollipop. Neither of which will be rootable, 4.4.2 was the last version that is rootable at this point.

I moved up to the Note 3 from the S3 because the charging port quite working and Asurion wanted $150 deductible. It's no longer worth having the insurance if they're going to start charging 1/3 of the cost of a new phone plus the monthly fee.

I'll give a more detailed response, probably should have did that from the start . Its broad anywhere/settings intent; the system passes it privileges to an app when adding an account. Using this we can push the required binaries for su access. There's probably other ways to do this as well. This Is also present in both 4.4.4 and 5.0
So when I said I'm working on it I'm creating an application that will carry the pay load and carry out the code.
Don't worry, I'm not going to ruin my reputation with false root claims. Its coming one way or another.

I've got faith in CovXX getting this done. The vulnerability has been know for several months, but nobody has attempted to use it on the Note 3 before, that's why it's not happened yet. Most devs working on root have jumped ship to the Note 4 or other phones prior to 4.4.4 being released on the Note 3. It's good to have at least one dev remaining to attempt it.
