My wifes nexus 4 does not connect or find any carrier while we are abroad in Europe.
Any ideas what to do?
do you have international roaming enabled? are you on-contract or prepaid? if pre-paid i don't think they allow roaming. Worst case you can buy a sim card and calling card to use while you are there.
she is on a prepaid contract, and in addition to that it includes world flate rate for global landlines.
we have the same prepaid card, while mine connects, hers does not. I get neither a signal if I insert her simcard into my note 3.

Hi. I have a Bell mobility Canadian S3. I am traveling to USA. I need data for using Google Navigation and internet there. Does anyone know if i can unlock my phone, buy a prepaid SIM card, and use the phone there? Is this phone compatible with t-mobile or at&t SIM cards?
ps--if it won't work, i also have an unlocked motorolla Atrix (1st gen), but the screen is fidgety and doesn't work well. Will prepaid sims work in the atrix?... then i can just use the atrix as a hotspot for the S3. Thanks in advance.
EDIT...sorry didn't see that the s3 has different forums for canada and USA versions...found out after i created this thread.
Buy an unlock code online. I heard some site charges like 7 cad. I used cellunlocker.net twice before and it charges 15 us each. Or your local cellphone shop or pacific mall I guess....
At&t will sure work and they are roaming partner of Bell. They might have prepaid voice and data. Check online for yourself.

okay i just ordered my Nexus4 (16GB) , will the sim card be the same from the Galaxy nexus or would i have to pay T-Mobile a visit?
I'm in a similar situation, except I don't even have a Sim Card
Everything I've read about the Nexus 4, says it's a Micro Sim. So you have to cut it yourself, or go into a T-Mobile store. My questions is:
Can I go into a T-Mobile store with my Nexus 4 and buy a Micro-Sim? How much will it cost? And will they set up and activate my phone/plan in store? (Want to go with the $30 a month pre-paid plan).

Yeah, it's definitely a micro SIM. I'll be going to a T-Mobile store to get my SIM cut as well, and they usually do it for free.
They won't set up your prepaid plan in store, though. The $30/month plan is only available online, and you can't transfer your current number. Furthermore, you need an activation kit which includes the SIM card, or an activation number if you have an existing SIM card. Neither of those can be purchased from their retail stores, you'll need to call or go online. Link for the micro SIM activation kit.
Thanks. So if I buy an Activation kit on Amazon (can't post links) but: T-Mobile USA (Tmobile T Mobile) SIM Card and Prepaid Activation Kit
I just take the sim card into the store, and they cut it? Thanks for the heads up about them not selling the activation kit in stores. I was going to just walk into the store with my Nexus 4 and try to get it all done then. I should order my Sim card now, so I can have it in time for my Nexus 4.
EDIT: Can you go into a T-Mobile store, buy a regular Sim Card? Then have them cut it? Then just go online and set up the activation?
Or do you have to buy the activation kit to do it. According to their site:
Micro SIM Cards
Micro SIM cards for non-T-Mobile devices are available in our Retail stores and on My T-Mobile; however, microSIM cards cannot be ordered through Customer Care.
If a micro SIM card is purchased, keep in mind:
3G functionality on the T-Mobile network is unfortunately not an available feature of the Apple iPhone, due to the absence of the 3G 1700 band.
T-Mobile uses both the 1700 / 2100MHz frequencies to transmit voice and data services. Both frequencies are required. If a device only has one of these frequencies, it CANNOT use T-Mobile’s 3G network.

I called T-Mobile and ordered a micro sim. Cost was $1.06 shipped. Should be here today.
Look at the thread about micro Sims I am the accessories section.

For anyone else that is confused, I just went to T-Mobiles site and did their live chat. Took 3 min, and got everything sorted out. It's pretty easy (and I feel foolish for being confused, especially when you good folks gave a clear answer).
But basically, you just order the Microsim Activation Kit. And you are good to go. I really wish I would have done this a week ago in preparation for this. Google claims my Nexus 4 will be on the 15th. T-Mobile claims my Sim Card will be 15-19th (2-4days). I'll be really sad if it doesn't get here by the weekend. And I'm stuck without a phone until Monday.
That's my own fault though.
I'll be spending a month in USA this September, while i'm there i'll need a sim card to use so that I can stay in contact with others that are there and also for calling people in the UK. I'd rather not use my uk contract as the costs can be astronomical when you use your data services.
Which simcard will work with my UK galaxy s4? And does anyone has any experience with US prepaid sim cards?
Just saw this on Clove.co.uk:
We wish to make our customers aware of certain functionality limitation regarding SIM cards on the Note 3.
The Note 3 will work with any UK or European SIM card.
If you travel internationally (outside of the Europe) and usually insert a local SIM card when in the country, the Note 3 will NOT be able to use the local network. It will loose all mobile connectivity with the exception for emergency calls.
For example, if you travel to the USA and insert a SIM card issued in the USA, you will not be able to use the Note 3 for any voice calls, text messages and mobile date connection. It would work via a WiFi connection only.

Seriously what the hell? This is a business phone and no end of customers would use a local USA sim card whilst out there.
I use it to save a fortune on roaming costs and now i'm told this is not possible???
If I cannot unlock this fully (mine is arriving Thursday 26th), i'm afraid this will be my last ever Samsung phone I purchase.

YES MATE!!
I got the mail as well. Utter utter bollocks. Wanted one delivered to Oman (The SnapDragon 800 version).
I'm seriously disappointed.
Is there an international n9005 version that will work in any country?
Thats my question too.
Any idea ??

Samsung has been putting a Region Lock in new firmware for the past few months. That's most likely the cause.
So can I buy a n9005 in middle east or I should wait to dc this restriction ?

I am traveling to the UK and have an Unlocked S5 on the Verizon network. Can I purchase a local Sim Card on the ee plan in London and use my phone on that network. Verizon wants a ridiculous amount of money for basically nothing.

Depends on the carrier, but in most cases yes. I've used Orange and sfr sim cards, in france and bulgaria with no issue.
