[Q] Blank screen software problem (Never dropped and no water damage) - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Had my Galaxy S5 G900F for under a year and had it rooted within a week of owning it. There were no problems with the phone at all until I installed lucky patcher. Lucky patcher was not working so I restarted my phone then when it came back on the screen never came back on. I was still receiving text messages and phone calls but the screen was blank and touch was not working. I know for sure that I can still get into Download mode by having it connected to my computer it is detected in Odin (download mode and recovery have a blank screen too). I am unsure If i can get into recovery and even if I got into it I wouldn't be able to see what I am doing.
I am thinking I need to wipe data and cache but I cannot as I cant see recovery.
Is there anything else I can try?

Do you have Android SDK Installed on your PC and have a custom Recovery on your phone.
If so you can try to Factory rest this way, by connecting your phone to your PC (phone turned on as normal)
Go to the SDK\Tools folder and click monitor.bat the Android Device Monitor window will open (it is slow to load), you should then see your device on the left and a list of folders and files on the right, if you don't make sure the DDMS button is selected and the file explorer tab selected.
Now try the below process
1. Go to the SDK\Platform tools folder, hold down the shift key on your PC and right click the mouse button and select Open Command Window Here
2. Type adb reboot recovery and hit return and wait for the phone to reboot, you can check this in the Android Device Monitor window
The device and files etc will disappear and when booted into recovery appear again, if the device doesn't appear then the rest of this process won't work if it does and you have the device and the list of files and folders again then it should
3. now type adb --wipe_data and hit return, leave the phone alone for a minute or two as you can't see the screen you can't see the progress
4. after a couple of minutes type adb reboot and hit return
The device should hopefully reboot normally, if it doesn't then unplug the USB, pull the battery wait a minute reinsert it and boot normally
This should work as long as you have a custom recovery and Developer Options USB debugging selected on your phone

Okay so I just turned my phone on to try what you said and I didn't even get to try. It wont boot normally now. It has the glowing blue light at the top (Usually on when Samsung logo is on) so I am guessing its in a boot loop. Screen is still black

Updating to 4.3 error, no command, is my phone dead? :(

I literally just got the 4.3 OTA update. Phone was fully charged... like 98%. I went ahead and let it update. It rebooted, and it got about 75% into updating and then the icon switched to the sideways android with the red caution symbol and said "Error". I let it sit there for awhile hoping it would do something. It didn't, so I held down power to reboot. It rebooted to the same icon, but now says "No command". I did the vol up/power to get into the wipe/reboot options. I went ahead and rebooted. Every single time... I see the Google logo for like a min, then to the sad android logo w/ "No command". Now I can't even get that far, the indicator light flashes red. I've read that indicates a totally drained battery. Not sure how it can go from full charged to fully drained in a matter of minutes. However on the issue of the error and no command, is my device dead? I've never rooted it or used custom roms. I got the N4 for the pure vanilla stock experience, so I never felt rooting was needed. Any advice? Should I just call Google and request replacement?
I would try a few things first before calling Google. Sometimes the battery doesn't show its correct percentage, it's pretty common on my N4 as far as I can tell. Maybe you've just run out of battery. Let it charge for half an hour or so and then try it again.
If you can't boot to system after that, turn off your phone, press and hold volume down and power buttons at the same time for a few seconds until it boots to bootloader. If you can't boot to bootloader after doing this let it charge for more time, an hour or two.
Sometimes, after the battery has run dry completely it is really hard to turn the phone on (I've even seen this behavior on my 7 years old Nokia). One question, does a charging animation shows up when you plug your phone?

It's been charging now for a little over an hour. No animation or indication the battery may be drained other than the red indicator light when I try to go to into the boot loader. Still can't do anything. If I power it on, I see Google logo for awhile, then sad Android icon and "no command". If I try to go into bootloader, just red indicator light and black screen. All while plugged in.
I just don't understand how it went from fully charged to drained in minutes. It was plugged in for hours today. In fact I initiated the OTA update only about 20-30 min after taking it off the charger.
Unplug your device, press and hold the power and volume down buttons for a few seconds until it boots to the bootloader. Now plug your phone again and let it charge.

Alright, it's now been charging for 3 hours. I did what you just suggested. All that happens is I see a white Google logo for about 10 seconds, then it goes black. I think the device is off at this point. Stupid question I'm sure... I can't dock my phone to my computer to get any of my data at the "no command" screen can I? It needs to be fully booted, right?
Get into recovery, wipe cache, then it "should" boot.

Like I said above, I'm not able to. I hold down power + vol up and it just shows white Google logo then goes black.
Well hmmm. I just did power + vol down for the hell of it, and I have a menu. Selected "recovery mod" and it just went straight to the sad Android icon with "No command".
I'm not sure what to make of all the stuff I see on this menu...

Here is a short video of what I get from that menu when trying to go into recovery...

For the sake of simplicity, learn how to use Fastboot. You should find more than enough information in the General section.
All you need to do is run this command in bootloader mode.
Code:
fastboot format cache
Edit:
Just saw the video, press vol up + power together in the recovery to access the menu.

Again... like I said before vol up + power does nothing. I can take a video if you like.
Disregard the above. Got it into recovery. I guess my pushing was off or something. I took the rigid case off and made it easier to press the vol button. Let's see what happens now.
Alright. Got into recovery, did a wipe data/factory reset, still no dice. This time it rebooted several times, Google white logo each time, then finally a sad Android icon with "No command". Guessing next step is to download it and try updating via ADB?... or just say screw it and call Google and initiate a replacement?
Alright, it is screwed. Long guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312
Short guide:
1. You need basically 3 things, the factory image, fastboot, and nexus 4 drivers
2. Download and setup all of them.
3. Extract the factory image tgz file TWICE until you see a folder.
4. Place "fastboot" into that folder.
5. Unlock your bootloader, shift + right click inside the folder, Open command window here. Run "fastboot oem unlock" and read the agreement (it's screwed anyway), select Yes if agree.
6. Once unlocked, run "flash-all".
7. Go running around your house for 10 mins.
Warning: This operation will wipe everything in your phone, if there's any crucial data, edit flash-all.bat to remove "-w" flag, and remove userdata.img in the occam zip.
Edit:
Or probably you can just get a toolkit...

Thanks for your help. I appreciate it. I'm probably going to give this a try, couldn't get any worse. I think all data is gone anyhow when I did the factory reset option in the recovery, right? I did just call Google, they said I could get a replacement no problem, but that will probably take a week.

Yes, what he suggested should get you up and running again (if not, then yes your phone needs a replacement). I saw the video and the image. I'm pretty sure your system was wiped somehow and that's why you can't boot to it anymore. If what he suggested fails I can walk you through the steps to flash each factory image separately.
What would you do if the nexus 4 drivers wont install?
I have similar problem, I got the 4.3 update ota and it crashed half way through and now it gets stuck on the X logo. I was trying to follow a guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312) to install 4.3 back onto the device but failed at the first hurdle, when plugin the phone in it fails on the driver software installation - mtp usb device failed.
Is there any other way to do it?

unplug your phone. reboot into bootloader (vol down + power) but don't plug it in
downloaded the file posted in this topic from the google website.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44088784
once you download it, extract it to a folder
then open up flash_all.bat in notepad, and it will say -w near the end. remove that (leaving it would wipe all of your data) and save the file
then run it, it will say waiting for device. plug your phone in and it will start updating

Which driver did you try to install? Naked Drivers 0.72? What OS (Win8, Win7, etc)?
Plug your device in, go to control panel, click on Device Manager, scan for hardware changes or select the device with a yellow exclamation mark. Click on "Update driver" and search for the drivers in your PC (where you downloaded them). That should work.
Just Boot from a ubuntu live cd, install fastboot with apt-get and get started

The only way I could get it to work was the following; however there is one thing to try before you try my way because mine did this also - after the wipe and flash with flashtool etc. The only way I found to get out the bootloop was to do a factory restore after when its looping. So from the boot screen loop hold the power button until it goes off then on then off again.
Then do the process to get into the recovery so hold down and power then release power as soon as the lg logo appears (first one) then press it again immediately that SHOULD get ya to the grey factory reset screen. Press the power button 3 x and it should do a factory restore and boot up this time. First boot may take a minute it should eventually start up.
Failing that try this - Open the lg mobile support tool and connect the phone in download mode (volume up and power with plugged in usb on mine) then go to options and upgrade recovery. it will download a file usually about 2GB then install it, the phone will reboot at 100% on the phone and 80ish% on the lg tool it will then start into the setup feature,
DO NOT disconnect the phone until it gets to 100% and finishes. This way you shouldn't need to do an extra factory reset.
I understand for this the phone needs to be seen on com 4 (it shows on the phone screen) so if necessary go into device manager with the phone still plugged in in download mode and select com ports then select the phone com port then right click >properties> advanced and change the com port to 4. It may tell u its already being used but don't worry it is fine. Save and exit device manager.
please bare in mind these are just my experiences on MY LG D802 however its worked every single time for me without fail and ive done it a good few lol.

[Q] process.com.android.systemui has stopped

i recently tried to edit my build.prop file on my LG G2 (LS980). i changed
Code:
ro.build.product=G2
to
Code:
ro.build.product=g2
(using root explorer, and mounted r/w) because i read that they should be lower case, and since my phone wouldn't update i decided to see if it would work. rebooted and got the error. the error is so bad that i cant even use my phone. the front touch buttons are missing and i cant tap anything except for the power off/reeboot/enter airplane mode. Also, 9 times out of 10 when i power off, the sprint spark logo appears then screen goes black, then reappears and turns the phone back on. furthermore, when i plug it in to my pc i cannot change it from MTP mode, and im not sure if i still have usb debugging checked. the lg mobile support tool wont recognize that a device is connected even with the latest drivers. ALSO, i cannot enter stock recovery! last night when i first got the error i entered it once, but i decided to look for other options as to how to fix the error rather than wiping. but now I WISH i wiped my phone then, because no matter what i do now, the phone wont go into recovery mode. i don't have TWRP or CWM, and i am rooted. I'm a noob and i don't know what to do at this point, can anyone help me?
i have tred looking for some sort of software that can let me access the phones settings directly through usb, but no luck. i dont even know if such a thing exists.
can you battle your way to settings/apps? hit options, reset defaults

Can anyone help here, Galaxy Note 4 Bricked

Device- Galaxy Note 4 International (SM-N910C)
The case here is:
- The Phone doesn't boot, or show anything as the splash screen
- when you try to charge the phone (while powered off) the device doesnt show anything at all, but the phone charges as the
battery heats up a bit
- when you press the power button (and nothing else ) and leave the phone alone for about 8-10 mins, it shows the download
mode screen WITHOUT the details on the top left corner.
- removing the battery and putting it back didn't work, and when you press the download mode button combination (volume
down+power+ home), it directly starts download mode but this time WITH the details on the top left corner, the warning doesnt come.....
- When in download mode, the device IS detected by odin
- but then when i try to flash the rom thorugh odin, again the same
problem (no boot)
So far, Download mode is the only thing i've seen on the phone, and nothing else
my Guesses: the files which store the splash screens, etc are corrupted, and are not even touched during rom flashing, because when i flashed a rom through odin, the process DID finish but the problem persisted.
Suspects: param.bin file
even though these can be the root of the problem, there is no way i can actually restore the original file because adb doesnt detect the device in the pc, only odin does. Yes, i've perfectly installed all the adb/fastboot drivers.
Thanks in advance to anyone that helps fix the problem......:crying:

Can anyone try and give me a ODIN flashable file that replaces the param file in the phone???

Problem booting the phone or connecting to PC

I have a LG G2 D802 32GB phone. I have been on Lineage 15 for more than 2 years without any security updates. Foolishly, I downloaded and flashed the latest copy of the same operating system. Seemed to go OK but TWRP always booted into recovery, even when 'system' was selected. I flashed the original copy of the operating system and GAPPS back which again went without error messages. This time it booted up with the LG Splash screen followed by the curved line and circles followed by a blank screen then the line and circles/blank screen again repeatedly.
Switching the phone on whilst holding down 'volume up' and plugging the PC USB cable in, gets into download mode followed by the Firmware update screen which sticks at 0%. In the top of the box below are the words 'USER B49' and on the bottom of the box, in red, 'ROOTED' even though I had never succeeded in getting Magisk to root this phone.
The PC has the correct driver and pings but there is no visible entry in File Explorer or the bottom of the screen for safely unplugging it again. This is probably because USB is in Developer Mode but not set for file transfer or PTP etc. with no obvious way of changing this.
Sorry for being so verbose but can anyone suggest how to get the phone working again please?
