[Q] Is heating and battery issues isolated to stock Cyanogen 11 - YU Yureka Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If i flash any other custom ROM like Mokee or the Unofficial Cyanogen 12 will these issues go away?
Because from what i read the heating and battery leak issues occur due to some bug in the Cyanogen OS (stock) that comes preinstalled.
So instead of having to do a temporary fix, flashing CM12 or any other custom ROM would solve the issue right?

Not Really....

Heating issue remains in custom ROMs as well. I have observed same heating in CM11 unofficial ROM. In Paranoid ROM heating is less but the performance in Gaming is also low and laggy. I think Heating is the tendency of Snapdragon 615 and dissipation is not proper in Yureka.

Hardware Problem
I wish it was the software which was pushing it self and generating heat. But this is not true. Yureka's hardware itself produces a lot of heat that the CM Kernel itself can't force it to cool down. Though you can optimize it sometimes. I do it a lot to keep my device at normal. But kinda not helps alot.

if you guys are thinking about heating issue gone forget about it..
because its hardware problem not software, it's not going to leave you no matter what Yu said.
I do not have any problem with battery performance. you should know that it's a 5.5" Screen phone so it's not going to last longer if you think.
but yes you can extend you battery life with some tweaking..

So there is no way to solve this issue. i still have time to return the phone to Amazon. Should i do it? (I think the replacement device will also have this problem). So all Yureka phones suffer from this problem?
Could some of your share your optimization techniques to reduce the heat. i have created .nomedia file in SD Card. Seems to have solved the issue but can't view anything on SD Card

Dont get carried away by many complaints. I also own a YU.
Here is my quick review:
1. With 3G i am able to browse around 4+ hours including some online video streaming which is quiet good for 2500ma battery.
2. The device gets heated up in 3G but still bearable. And one main reason is the quality and the material of the back panel.
3. I already have experience with CM custom roms with my other mobiles and sooner or later this heating issue could be fixed by CM.
4. With regular use this mobile should be quiet good for a days use.
5. Camera quality is quiet good.
6. There are problems with sd card. i would suggest not to use SD card till Lollipop is out.
I hope this helps.
In my opinion this is still a beast in the price range with possibilities of lot of customizations

Have a look here how to control the heating..

Is Lollipop really worth upgrading to?

So, Samsung finally released Lollipop for just about every Note 4 variant now but, after reading a lot of people suffering from huge battery drain, overheating and random crashes, I'm just wondering if I should bother updating to lollypop myself.
I'm still on stock 4.4.4 (with a fair amount of mods) and my phone runs exactly how I want it to. The only ever problem I have is sometimes contacts crashes, but it's not even done that for about a week.
What are the advantages (if any) of upgrading to lollipop?
Let's see if you can convince me to part with my very stable and perfectly functional modded 4.4.4.

BOC5 works perfectly fine here and is a lot smoother than any KitKat version that I used prior. If you play a lot of games then chances are you might run into the GPU bug, but other than that I see no problems in going with the newest Android version available. :good:
I got N910C. No root.
These are some facts about KK & LP according to my own experience.
KitKat 4.4.4:
Had volume spike answering bug (mentioned somewhere on XDA),
Had read only SD card problem (due to Android restrictions),
Lollipop 5.0.1:
Solved both above mentioned issues of KK,
Faster and smoother than KK,
No crashes, freezes, hickups, overheating - rock stable,
Better RAM management,
Better or equal battery consumption,
Material design (I love it, somebody else may not)
1-2 second answering ''hello hello'' bug (caller can't hear me 1-2 sec. after my answer). I don't know is anybody else has this bug,
GPU throttling bug (when phone reaches about 50 C some games stutter and benchmarks like Antutu show low results due to lower GPU frequencies)
Everything is perfect except this. This should be fixed ASAP in next update.
Be aware of this and consider eventually upgrade to Lollipop
Just in case: lots of shortcut apps (e.g. pulling down the notification bar!) don't work on Samsung's iteration of Lollipop anymore. That's still one of the biggest issues at least for me!
I have updated my UK ee phone to the German BOC3 and I have to say I'm very impressed with it. I have done a dirty flash and I haven't encountered a single issue. My battery life seems better, the system settings feel cleaner and the general visual tweaks and nice. Looking forwards to the btu

Experience with 5.01 Lollipop Update, i have had no issues with Lollipop
Lp fixed the Bluetooth stuttering bug for playing music in my car via Bluetooth.
The notifications are great and usually appropriate...
No battery crash or menu problems on Bell.
No hello hello bug I have noticed on Bell carrier

Returning to Slimkat after Lollipop Impressions

I have posted and used numerous Lp5-5.1 roms with different modifications. After using them for a few months, I have decided to try Kitkat just to refresh my memory. What a pleasant surprise I got: My Z1 turned in a different device, which is faster, lighter, more fluid and virtually bugless. No overheating issues, which exist on 100% of lollipop roms. No memory leaks, no screen problems, no lagging, no freezing, no limited features...
Note that Lollipop has been around for over 6 month and there is still not one stable version. And there won't be one, as each bug fix introduces a new one. I can't blame developers: LP is simply bad in design, it can't be fixed. Art is a layer that burdens the device and is a step backwards. It burdens CPUs, hence you always have overheating and no tinkering with voltage will help. After using a web browser for 10 min (just browsing, no video), cpu temp goes up over 65 and even fixed thermanager, tweaked to not kick in until 60-65, starts to work resulting in flickering. Using camcoder for about 5 minutes results in display, the app and literally the phone shutting down, as CPU temp goes to 85-90. To fix overheating, you have to get rid of art. Art also burdens ram, while it was supposed to do the opposite. What else do you need: your phone overheats, lags, freezes, crashes, apps f/c, ram is under pressure, battery won't properly charge and none of it can be fixed in over 6 months.
Bye bye, LP, for good.

Let's hope, that these bugs also exist on nexus devices and are not device specific, so that google fixes them in Android M.

I keep reading about these issues plaguing a lot of devices, but I simply can't share the same experiences. And believe me, I'm a power user... I'd notice.
I listen to music while downloading zips, while browsing the forums and my device stays at a comfortable temperature. And it's summer here... 30 Celsius every day at least.
Then, the touch screen freezes is something I know nothing about. Only had it once, on build 5.4.4. of RR.
The memory leak and screen light flickering is something I encounter only on stock...
I don't know what it is about my device, but I'm nothing but thrilled with lollipop.

The stock lollipop roms have driven me to root and install a custom 4.4.4 rom after sticking with stock for the first 18 months or so. Rubbish battery life, heat, redraws in action launcher. Hopefully a good lollipop will appear, and I might flash that through recovery once it's proven. Or maybe with 5.1. But returning to 4.4.4 with customisation is like night and day. Fast, cool, no redraws. Keeping a watch on 5.x
I agree all the custom 5.0.x and 5.1.1 ROMs have countless issues and bugs, heating, poor RAM management but I'd like to appreciate Sony's work with Lollipop. Sony's stock Lollipop is pretty good even for power usage. Though KitKat was definitely one of the better versions of Android. At least our stock Lollipop isn't that bad. As for me I'm going to stick to a rooted stock Lollipop until a stable AOSP ROM comes out, which will take some time, considering KitKat also took ages to fix.

S5 Overheating Issue

I have tried all ROMS on XDA. I have this very serious heating issue with my one-year old Exynos G900H.
Is it a software problem? Would a firmware flash fix this, running Marshmallow 6.0.1. Battery is fine, not bloated.

I am new to XDA Developers so correct me if I do something wrong.....
I have experienced this with my Samsung Galaxy S5 Plus Snapdragon SM-G901F.
This would happen if the screen is at a high brightness for a long period of time for me (for example, when I would boot into a new rom). After I adjust settings such as Brightness and leaving my phone to cool, My phone doesn't seem to overheat anymore.
This is just my experience.....
Good Question Though, If there are any other experiences, shout me

I know. But I'd asaume its because of its waterproof body build. Certainly since nothing gets in, nothing gets out as well. Airtight means "air- tight".

I suspect its the waterproof body build.
Ive tried tweaking brightness settings, not working.
Phone heats up about 10-15mins of use.
Not Solved
Yesterday I flashed a very recent G900H stock firmware for Trinidad and Tobago. Phone's working, heating issue still persists

I got the base rom to run pretty good once I turned off all notifications and animations, and set the max number of background processes to 4
I like los14.1... but I've barebones the build by deleting everything I don't want and then I added some tweaks to make it feel real good.
All the custom roms are more or less the same (except for stock based like stock+ rom) because they are all made from Steel01's sources baked with custom rom specific files. So pick the one you find the prettiest or the most useful...
Hi All
What is latest ROM , there is any stability one from end of 2018 . Maybe someone working on new one ?
It depends what you're going for on your tablet. If you're aiming to keep all the Nvidia specific features I would recommend the 5.4.1 stock+ rom. If you don't care about any of that I believe that lineage is the way to go. Between the two, performance is the same for the most part, lineage is based on 7.1.2 though instead of 7.0, so you get a few newer features. If I have time later to come back to this I'll link them.

I've been trying the 5.4.1+ rom. For some reason it crashes and boot loops after installing Swift Keyboard Damn, I really like that keyboard. Then I updated Magisk on it, to get a message saying the new Magisk app isn't supported. So I uninstalled it to download the previous version and that caused a bootloop now too
Just flashed it again, hopefully it works better this time.
I am also wondering what is the best ROM for my K1 is?
First off, I bought this tablet used. Did some research and found out about the battery recall, mine is not one of them, as in I have the newer/better battery.
Secondly I did update the stock rom to 5.4 but the battery drain was horrendous. No gaming, just surfing facebook or the internet was a draining the battery in a few hours. Even in standby on my nightstand, battery was almost dead the next morning. Then after some research many people said to downgrade to 5.2 which I did and it pretty much fixed the battery drain issue.
Then I found out about LineageOS and decided to install 15.1, performance is good, but does still experience some battery drain issues, but not as bad as 5.4.
I also know that earlier this year LineageOS has returned support for the Nividia Shield K1 tablet, but is that for OS 17 and how long do I have to wait for that version?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

On 5.4 to get regular battery usage you have to enable custom cpu profiles, the default profile doesn't idle properly and the cpu's stay in a higher frequency state. You can then have all 4 cores enabled and it will idle properly (well it does for me), and you have nvidia driver support for the original wifi game controller which i have.
Otherwise, if you use a LineageOS 14 build, you can have full hardware video acceleration, on 15 builds you won't have hardware video acceleration.
So what your saying is I can go back to 5.4 and just play with the settings? Any special apps to do this, or just all within the android settings that need changing in order to have the performance and stop the battery drain problem?
If it's just the android settings, what are the settings I need to change? Tutorial?
Thanks
AOSP extended from bit obsession is a bit old but still snappy!

honestly, i think we are all screwed
my tablet wont charge at all now. it shows the icon on the screen saying it is charging but it doesnt charge at all. sometimes i can get about 10% on it.
the computer no longer recognises the device and i have only ever used official ota firmwares for it
spoke to Nvidia and all i got was the out of warrenty response.
they no longer care in anyway about shield tablet users and as it is discontinued its not like you can even buy a replacement. you cant buy secondhand either because theyll all just have the same bollocks battery issues we have on ours now.
I'll contribute a data point for anyone reading in late-2019 going into 2020:
I'm on Stock+ 5.4.1 on my K1 and it has been great for me so far in the last few weeks since I flashed it. I had been on the stock Marshmallow firmware for the past three years and was having the typical lag issues on wake. It was so severe that the tablet was completely unusable coming out of a deep sleep. It was also a chore to reboot it because even the lag on holding down the power button was agonizing and unpredictable. It was worse than booting Windows with an old hard drive.
I've had no lag-on-wake issues with Stock+ 5.4.1 so far. It's like coming back to remember why I liked this tablet in the first place after hating it for the past couple of years. I hadn't used it for anything other than daily alarms over the past year and change, but lately, I've been using it for bedside reading again instead of my phones.
To address a few of the issues that have been brought up in this thread:
I haven't had any battery drain issues with Stock+ 5.4.1. It seems to do about the same on my K1 as Marshmallow did, which was 100% to 15% on idle except for daily alarms (and snoozes) from Sunday through Saturday.
I ordered a new 6000 mAh replacement battery from AliExpress and will be installing it when needed. My current battery life isn't great, but it's not horrible either. I think it still manages to have about 80% of its original capacity.
After installing Stock+ 5.4.1, I flashed the latest Magisk 20.1 zip (Stock+ 5.4.1 came with Magisk 16.0) from within TWRP at a later date with no issues. Magisk 18+ is not compatible with Magisk Manager versions older than 7.0.0, but the old versions of Magisk Manager were bad in that they would always ask you to update to the latest version regardless of what version of Magisk you had installed. Basically, Magisk Manager was asking you for permission to nuke itself.
I have never used the official Facebook or Messenger apps, but virtually every comment I've ever read about them say that they're battery killers. Use a third-party app that combines both and has a smaller memory footprint.
I used to be an avid user of SwiftKey, but I've since soured on it. I haven't installed it on my K1 since the firmware upgrade and I don't know if I will going forward. The biggest benefit of SwiftKey used to be the dedicated number row, but its predictive swiping was the worst I had ever used. I'm on Gboard now and it seems to be working well. The only feature I miss from SwiftKey is the arrow keys to move the text cursor.
I am also wondering what is the best ROM. I got a K1 used as well not too long ago, and I mostly want to use it as a study tool for some CompTIA certifications in 2020, so viewing PDF's/word docs, exam simulations, and tutorial videos will be it's primary function. I do like comics so I would like it to perform snappy.
I really have no interest in gaming or social media.

I went with a stock-based ROM because I still wanted all of the tablet's functionality to work as designed, even though I've never played games on my K1 using a controller or created an Nvidia account. However, as long as retaining those features won't cause the device to run poorly and there isn't anything inherently poor about the stock experience, I don't mind. Stock-based ROMs are usually easier to set up and install. Nvidia stock firmware isn't known for being particularly bloated or heavy like that of some phone manufacturers, but of course LineageOS is still going to be faster at the cost of some device-specific features.
Given your intended use, as long as you use something newer than the stock Marshmallow firmware and its wake lag issues, you probably don't need to worry about much else.
I decided to dig my K1 out of the closet and have a play with over the holidays. I just flashed the stock recovery 5.20 but for some reason I cannot update or download any apps from the Google Play Store. I keep getting error 963. I searched how to fix this but nothing has worked.
Anyone else been able to fix this?

WORST THINGS HAPPENING !!

HELLO EVERYONE
SORRY TO YOU GUYS BY STRESSING YOU GUYS
BUT I CANT DO ANYTHING MORE THAN THAT
ONE MORE PROBLEM OF MINE IS THAT :-
EVERY ROM I USED LIKE
THE FLOYD ROM
THE PIXEL EXTENDTED AND PIXEL EXPIRENCE ROM
THE EVOLUTION X AND CRDROID ROM
(I DID USE THE LINEAGE OS...BUT I WANTED PURE ANDROID SO I SKIPPED IT)
EVERY ROM IS CREATING MAJOR PROBLEMS FOR ME TO USE
I USED AROUND FOR 1 YEAR NOW (I GUESS)
AND FROM 1 YEAR IAM FACING THESE PROBLEMS
I HAVE USED ROMS WITH ANDROID :-
ANDROID 13
ANDROID 12
ANDROID 11
ANDROID 10
ANDROID 09
LIKE :-
HEATING UP LIKE COAL
WHEN NOT USED (MOSTLY AT NIGHT)
USING BATTERY LIKE PETROL
WHEN NOT USED (MOSTLY AT NIGHT)
APP FAILING OR CRASHING (EVERYTIME !)
WHEN PLAYING AUDIO ON AUX/BLUETOOTH DEVICES (LIKE HEADPHONES)
THERES ALOT OF CRACKING SOUND IN BETWEEN
ROM CRASHING
POWERING OFF ITSELF
CALLING RANDOM EMERGECY CALLS
YES .. I HAVE OBSERVED THESE PROBLEMS IN MY DAILY ROUTINE
I HAVE A FEELING THAT THE ROMS COULD BLAST UP MY DEVICE BY MAKING THE BATTERY THICKER
AND NO I DONT USE ANY TYPE OF HIGH END APPS
THE DEVICE IS FOR MY SCHOOL WORK ... SO I ONLY USE TEAMS,WHATSAPP,OFFICE.ETC.
I ALSO DIG UP THE INFO VIA ADB BUT NO SUCH MAJOR THINGS
(SORRY CANT PASTE THE LOG AS I HAVE LOST IT)
SO THAT MUCH ONLY
SHALL I GO BACK TO STOCK FIRMWARE
OR SHALL FLASH ANY SPECIFIC KERNEL
OR CAN YOU GUYS IN THE COMMUNITY SPECIFY ANY GOOD ROM THAT IS STABLE , SMOOTH , AND SUPPORTS ALL THE FEATURES OF ANDROID .?
ALSO A SMALL SUGGESTION
IF ANY DEV CAN MAKE A ROM LIKE MIUI 12.5 (IF POSSIBLE !!)
IT WOULD BE GREAT !!

This is pretty much hardware issue. You can't possibly think that all roms cause all that. It gorra be a part of the device has deteriorated pretty fast, or your device has been faulty since the beginning.
Everybody is having a pretty decent performance, including me, who've had the device since the release date.

Well. I'm on Pixel Experience A12. I can't really promise the prime experience but it gives me the Pixel Experience on my 6 years old phone. But I don't get any random reboots or audio issues, ...etc.
Im on floyd v7 rn and its runs fine except for the battery as i havent had it changed since release. I think your device has some hardware issues
I Don't Get It Till Now
Maybe Its An Hardware Issues
Because I Think I Am Only The One Who Is Facing These Issues ?
Now Currently The Stock Rom Is Atleast Availabe For Me To Use The Phone
Still Hunting A Better Rom For The Device
Which Supports
Volte Calls
Improved Battery Life
Better Performance And Cooler Temperatures.
Even The Stock Rom Has Werid Issue
When I Turn The Phone Off At An 100%
When I Leave Home
And Turn On After Around 8 Hours
When I Return Home
The Phone Gets On At An 9%
Which Shocks Me
How Could The Battery Could Be Used Even When It's Off
I Even Tried A Code *#0228#
Which Calibrates The Battery
Even Then No Change
Now This Issue Is Also Getting Frequent With The Others
Any Way Thanks For The Replies
I Guess The Phone ....
Got Some Hardware Issue Or It's Upset From Me For Some Reason
Now I Still Have To Hunt More For Some Bountiful ROMs For The Device Which Satisfies My Conditions
Thanks Any Way
For The Replies And Help !!
