HSDPA+ Android 5.1 - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the '+' icon has been removed from Android 5.1 please? It's not displaying in the status bar when my phone is connected with 'HSPA+' showing in settings. I thought it was available in pure AOSP 5.0 but I could be wrong... Thanks

well , the icon actually exists .
You could check your speeds to know if you're really on HSPA+ .
Have a nice day.

Yes, the phone is downloading at HSPA+ speeds (checked by speedtest.net) and showing HSPA+ in settings. What I am trying to ascertain is why it does not show '+' in the status bar. I don't believe the stock / pure AOSP version for Nexus 4 has this. I know some custom ROMS have enabled this - I wanted to check this..

I've read somewhere on reddit that the icon might have been removed due to the fact that HSPA has been replaced by HSPA+ worldwide , so there was really no reason to keep the '+' notation anywhere ..

Thanks for clarifying. I know that HSPA is still in use in the UK on many networks (and my Nexus 4 does differentiate between HSPA a nd HSPA+ , as displayed in 'Settings'). I guess that Google just did away with the '+' symbol in Android 5.

Youtube HQ on Hero

I found a way to put Yoytube HQ on Hero. Download youtube.apk remove from zip and then follow below.
cd c:\android, adb remount, adb push Youtube.apk /data/app_s
is there a way to do this without installing adb?
It might be. i know for sure this works.
do it through the terminal, after placing the file on the root of sdcard.
whats the command to push from terminal?
You get hq automatically on wifi..

I got this HQ from another Build. that was HQ.
Ok so anyone with a G1 knows that you get the good quality YouTube on WiFi, what I have heard is that one of the builds had a YouTube.ask that gave the option to have high quality on 3g. I don't have WiFi right now so this would really help me. The crappy quality is why I don't use the YouTube app. I thought this would work but I found no option to select HD in the menu or settings. Someone know something I'm missing?
By the way to place using terminal just place the .apk on sdcard root and type:
$su
#mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
#busybox cp /sdcard/YouTube.apk /data/app_s
#rm -r /sdcard/YouTube.apk
i tried copying the youtube.apk from any other 1.5 builds to the app_s folder and never got it to work
What kind of 3G icon do you have?
3G or H. It seems that youtube HQ over 3G works only with 3G icon and not H. That's a bug I guess. We should ask rom maker to replace the H with the 3G icon

I believe the icon is merely an icon, H means 3G anyway, just in the Haykuro builds "language". I believe it may be something the the framework itself... I posted something about this in the applications thread a few days ago too with no avail.

Incorrect. H means HSDPA as in 3.5g. Which is why our internet speeds are actually a little faster then the norm G1. Has nothing to do with the "Haykuro" build.

Lol. I work for T-Mobile and I know that's gotta to be the most "OMG I DON'T KNOW THE ANSWER" answer. Lol. Learn2Study.
Yeah I installed this and still nothing but crappy video. I would love to see an option built in or something.
i think there may be an issue with the" "H icon affecting the HQ performance. I have Power Manager installed on the phone and whenever i have "H" coverage, power manager shows that it is conneted to the 2G network and not the 3G. Youtube is probably having the same issue since it was not programmed to understand the "H" signal...

Niggly Issues after Manual Update

A couple of small niggly issues now appear, and from speaking to others on Twitter it seems it might be a common issue. I wonder if it is from manually updating or just a bug?
On the lock screen, next to the carrier name I now have the | character so what was "O2 - UK" is now "O2 - UK |"
Any ideas why this is? Its not a big issue but slightly irritating as it means my device isn't the perfect device I want!
Also, the polar clock, with working dynamic wallpapers now, seems to be showing US time despite the main clock showing as UK. I wonder if this is to do with the manual update being US based, as the phone reset itself to US time after the update before automatically changing back to UK time. Polar clock never changed, not even after a reboot.
Any ideas and help always greatly appreciated.
Paul.
Carrier: O2
Country / Language: UK
Since I did a manual update, even though I am at the default middle/home screen, the small indicators show that I am one screen to the left.
I don't have your problems though.

Same issue here, only one so far.
I've seen this home screen dot bug, toggling the screens fixed it.
I did manually update, but I don't think this is the reason.

oh, US but why would it be any different?
Seems to be a lot of UK users with the | pipe issue that's all.
I manually installed the update last night. I live in the U.S. Neither of the issues mentioned on this thread have affected my Nexus One. In fact, I havent found any issues...yet.

I'm getting the dots not being on despite being at the home screen. I'm us. I don't get the l after T-Mobile. MUST be a UK thing.
Idk if this because of the update, this hasn't happened before the update but after I uploaded some videos to youtube, they seem to get deleted from my gallery. Not sure if there is a setting for that. Can anybody confirm?
*****NVM THEY SHOW NOW
Not on my AT&T and I did manual as well.

Same here.
I don't have that issue with the extra | and i'm in tmobile usa. the home screen dots get fixed by just swiping to another screen and back.
I too have the | sign after my carrier name followed with a standard message from my carrier )usually sth like 'have a nice day' or my location). Previously it was displaying this message in a separate line. My guess is that O2 UK has an empty carrier message and that's why you see only the bar.
Got the the pipe showing with Sonera in Finland also, annoying.
It seems it could be a Broadcast Channel Message "bcch" and these operators are sending NO MESSAGE hence we get nothing after the | not sure why Google would of altered the way this is handled but I'd like to see it sorted out but also the annoying "dots" glitch too.

Need latest Verizon PRL file (or at least 51965)

Can someone on Verizon please post the latest PRL? or if you have the 51965.prl file (or newer) that would be sufficient. I need to update my PRL through EPST on a non-activated phone (cannot use any form of *228XX)
Please do not ask me why I am doing this. If you cannot post the file or help me find it, then please kindly do not post I am doing this to get rid of the roaming icon in the top status bar. *228 will only update phones that are currently activated.
Thanks!

Try here

Also, the latest one I could find was 51893. It should still work, but you may be able to come across the one you need in PPCGeeks (I got this one out of Howard)...
Good luck.
Wait, that contains a ".rla" file...? What am I supposed to do with that?
Also, there are no download links on that PRL web link you sent.
Hi, you would need to just rename it to be '.prl' then it works fine.

Thanks guys - I tried the hybrid one and got less of a signal...how is that possible? Anyone have a GOOD hybrid one? or the latest hybrid perhaps?
I'm using a htc evo. i can't find a prl that gets me more than 1 bar. I found 1 that doesn't make me roam but still 1 bar. I tried others in this thread and still get 1 bar with a roaming sign. I checked the carrier and it says"Alliance Partener (us)" so I don't even know if this is Verizon. I live in Rural

There are many areas in the country with really lousy service regardless of the carrier. This becomes particularly true for rural areas due to the lack of towers. I know this is completely unrelated, but which rom and radio are you using in your EVO?

For Wind customers "Wind Home" now shows correctly in 2.3.3!

For Wind customers "Wind Home" now shows correctly! Reception seems better as well.
Yeh I noticed that now
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
looking forward to see that once i fix the dead SNS
I noticed this too. It shows WIND Home or WIND Away once you are connected to the network. But doing a network search still shows 302490 or Rogers Wireless.
confirmed
finally !!! we see the correct names
seems like enough people complained to google about it
Not me.
In Network Operators/Available Networks, I still see "302490", "302320" (which won't register with my SIM) and "Rogers Wireless".
I'm in Toronto. Where are you located?

It only changes after you are registered, i.e) in the search window list you don't see the name, but when your connected you see it in the lock screen etc.

"WIND" doesn't appear on my unlock screen or in the notification area, but then I haven't updated to 2.3.3. (Should have read the thread's title!)
I guess I'll take the plunge. Thanks!
EDIT: I've updated and now see "WIND Home".
OT, but I prefer the new colour temperature: closer to 6500K.
Just installed CM7 today, and noticed the lockscreen & pull down tray are back to showing MNC instead of WIND Home.
that's a CM7 ROM specific problem
the stock ROM shows the WIND Home properly

Yeah, figured as much.. Was curious what was added in stock 2.3.3 to cause the name to show..
And just now on mine with CM7 it started showing WIND Home. Weird.

Flashed CM10.1 - Terrible data speeds!?! Showing "DC" symbol?

Hey folks, so testing out data speeds on CM10.1 after flash and they're terrible! Ping is in the 300-600s and it keeps showing a "DC" symbol next to my signal bars, where the H+ and LTE symbol usually is. Any ideas?
did you turned on drx? dc is.discontinued connection
Sent from my SGH-I337M using xda pt
remium
drx? no I don't believe so. Just flashed the rom like normal and when I went to use my data connection, it just showed the DC symbol. It bounces between H H+ and DC, really strange!

i'm getting real sick and tired of the attitude some people have on this site, developer or not... either way, i DID use google, but couldn't find any REAL info on the subject. also, i HAVE changed networks speeds and checked my APNs... if you feel like helping, then help, if not, don't be a smart ass by posting a "let me google that for you" link... seeing as that didn't help even in the slightest...
here, i have a link for you too http://bit.ly/NbLltc

Are you kidding me? The second link is to the CyanogenMod bug detailing exactly what the DC icon indicates. The title of the issue is: Add support for DCHSPAP. If you google that term, you'll find a better detailed description of what DC-HSPA+ is than what you'll get from someone on XDA.
Couldn't find any "real" info??
The #1 rule of XDA is search before posting. If you're sick of my "attitude", which literally consisted of me telling you to search (and searching for you), then maybe you're doing it wrong.
