Only getting 7 hours at most out of my note 4, tried 2 roms (Dr.Ketan & another) and honestly neither works.
I tried to get a full charge then run battery calibrations and with no luck, So is there anything I can do about battery life other than reverting to 4.4 official? Is there a ROM for exynos note 4 that has optimized battery usage?
Just wanted to point out that i used to get 16 hours on official 4.4 so thats a 9 hour difference (and i'm using it a lot less now)
Battery life depends on what you do with your phone, the apps running in the background, the signal quality (LTE/CDMA etc) in your area, the amount of screen brightness you use, and other factors.
I disable apps (because I have not rooted yet) like Google plus, Facebook, Samsung Push and other google and samsung bloat that I don't use. Also disable "listen to command" on Samsung Voice, it's in the settings.
I'm sure others will chime in for more advice.
Good luck

bad battery life
i am running stock mg4 – no root
here is a screenshot.

does it look a'rite?
looks perfectly normal to me
the s4 i had previously used to go double on battery compared to the one i have now.
thats what making me really confused.
my current s4 will die in approx 5.30-6.00 hours if i use it phone with 65% screen on time which I think way too low comparing to the other s4 users.
isnt it?
Doesn't look right to me. Mine used to give 5 hours screen time. now I only get 2.

Check what do you have installed ... apps that constantly sync use a lot battery when data are on(wifi/3g/4g) notable examples are social network apps such as facebook, messaging apps and the notorious google now with its location tracking services which gives me half battery life when it's enabled because i have data constantly on ... maybe other apps running constantly in the background too that don't need online connection ... u can't have decreased battery life from one day to the next without something consuming it
I'm currently on deadly venom v 8.2 on mf3. I only get 2-3hrs screen time w this device. I already greenified all everything connected to Google like maps, services, search, etc. I hate the fact that you even have to do that just to maximize battery life. I don't like turning on and off stuffs like location services, blue tooth, and wifi. I always leave them on. I hate the fact that you need to lower the brightness or readjust the brightness again and again just to increase battery life. That's a no no! I have bad eyes, I use lux dash as my auto brightness. I don't have any background widgets on my phone. My home screen is just filled w apps (no widgets) because they say widgets eat battery. My phone can last the whole day when it's on idle. Battery is 3-4.5% per hour when on idle. It balloons to 15%—25% per hour once I start using it which is very annoying. These are the only apps I use and I always close them all the time. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, viber, Google voice, BBM, Gmail. What can you guys suggest to improve battery life? I don't believe people saying that they last 2 days or even the whole day. That's complete BS. I'll attach a screen shot on from better batter stats when I started making this, I started from 100%
12% in 33mins. Geeeez

If you need a phone with good battery life you should of bought a note 3 or LG g2.

You might want to get a new battery... My phone is running Graviton and I have excellent battery life. I keep power saving mode on, use Greenify, turn off Wifi, GPS, and Mobile Data when NOT needed. Generally I push at least a day and a half out of this stock battery before doing a complete charge. I try my best to not let the battery drain 100%.

If it went from 100 to 12% in 33 minutes you have a bad battery, plain and simple.

Right. Bad battery is very likely. That and should be using better battery stats to get a picture of what's going on.
It's not the phone and naming the ROM as if that has something to do with it is bad form.

What he said. I am stock but rooted and using Juice Defender, Greenify, toggling gps and mobile data off etc, I get full day on high usage and 28 hours on light usage. Must be a bad battery.
Meh, did some math. 12% in 33 min did cross-multiplication for 99% battery used, got 272.25 minuets divided by 60 to get an hourly total. You'll be getting 4.5 hours on screen time.
I don't personally think that's bad. Did some more calculations for Nexus 5 on battery. Heard it's getting about 3.5 hours screen on time, so with that to get your 4.5 hours screen on time the nexus 5 would need about a 2960mah battery.
Well, firstly, you should believe that some people's last 2 days or so; as I've seen photos posted by "battery life enthusiasts" in the better-battery-stats thread and other places showing it's possible. 12% in 33 minutes isn't that bad and is around a stock TW battery expectancy.
You're on MF3.. which means you cannot run an AOSP rom, so almost anything your running isn't going to be extremely lightweight for battery. ALL TW based roms will drain battery more than a single AOSP or GPE rom, as the system is a lot more heavy.
I greenify anything associated with the google-cloud or push-notifications, if I want to know my Facebook updates I can click on the app myself. I have location services turned off because there's ZERO reasons to use it unless I have a need for my GPS. Do you know that MANY apps use your location service even when not running and cause constant wake-locks. I've also moved my Google Services Framework from a system app to a user app with Titanium Backup Pro so I can greenify it and completely disconnect myself from Google if I have no needs for the play store or push-notifications. Gmail and gmaps can still run independently fine without the Framework, the GSF is also a major cause of wake-lock battery drain. Even if you greenify google apps, the GSF is still going to cause numerous wake-locks and affect battery.
I don't have a photo at the moment, since my phone is plugged in all the time anyway (just to keep it topped off), but I've had it run for almost 2 days without charging it; with occasional screen time, gaming, and having it idle. I'm also on a non-TW AOKP rom that's very very lightweight.

Here is my battery so far. As you can see, it barely has been used since yesterday. Screen on time is 25 minutes. Wifi is always on and I weather widget reloads every 4 hours. GPS is off though. Obviously, it lasts slightly less than a day if I use extensively with games, web browsing, email. Considering how much I usually use the phone, it does last 2 days.
Im on MF3 and using Wicked rom with SS.
If you get a new battery....
If you are thinking about getting a new battery and don't mind the extra bulk, go for the 7500mAh Zero Lemon Battery. I got one over a month ago and it will EASILY get 3+ days of battery life. It will add a lot of mass to the phone, but if you are looking for stupid battery life, check it out. Right now I have 26 minutes of screen time and 92% battery life left. It's been off charger for over 8 hours.
Snowdog
Edit: Forgot to mention I'm Full Stock / Full Lock.
I have noticed the standby battery on this phone is AMAZING!... but the screen on time is horrible for me too :S... can barely get 3 hours and that is with like 30% brightness... sigh
people said amoled helps save battery... but i used to have muchhh better battery with my htc one
So these are my stats on very light usage. Very good idle time. Just 2.5 hrs screen time

Hi all,
Just wondering what the battery life is like for all you Lollipop users. I feel like the battery is around the same compared to when I was still using Kitkat.
I currently have 8 hours of screen on time with about 16% of battery left. I'm using AryaMod build March 16th 2015. No custom kernels.
Power mode setting is enabled, I don't listen to music, no GPS, no web browsing, but occasionally I do watch a few Youtube videos. I also use a lot of Memedroid and some textings with Line.
No Xposed installed (don't want to mess with it until it's stable for Lollipop) but I do use Greenify.
Anyway, most people might think 8 hours of SOT is a lot with 16% battery left. But if I look at BBS, the stats are rather disappointing. There are a lot of Google Play Services wakelocks (even though Google Play Services is already Greenified). I also see a lot of PowerManageService.Wakelocks under Kernel Wakelock. I've done the best I could to troubleshoot this but it seems like there's not much else I can do to optimize it.
Just wondering what battery life you guys are getting?
no one?
I justupgraded yrster to 5.0 on my note 3 and it is draining a lot fater. If there was a root i would get rid of the stock aps that run in the backround. I would say it could use a partial charge around 4pm if i take it off the charger at 630am
I thought my battery was doomed.. Until I tried a Note 7 Port. For some reason I get MUCH better battery life on the ports than "stock" custom roms.
On ports I get almost zero drain and 1-1.30 hours per 10% and that is while my phone is even in the pocket most of the day (low standby drain). On the other hand on every stock rom, after the same day, same usage and same apps I have around 45min SOT and down to 70%.
I think Android System is the culprit, but there are still people having amazing battery life on "stock" roms. So how do you stop this Android System drain? It's clearly fixed on the Note 7 and there might be months before we get the updates where the note are now.. But I like stability by far, so would like to go back to stock, if I could stop the drain.
Thanks in advance
Hi Friends,
Just wonder if this is normal for this phone, or you guys could give me some pointers for extending my battery life, specifically the Screen On Time?
I have:
- Stock QC2 firmware - I believe this is Nougat with the March security patch
- No Facebook installed (Disabled)
- I am on data about 8 hours a day, rest is WiFi, Bluetooth for my Watch, and NFC is off
- Generally use a black and red theme
- Doing Ad blocking with the AdClear VPN solution
- Sometimes I make conference calls of under 2 hours
- No games, no YouTube watching
With this set I can barely manage like 3 hours of SOT. Is this normal? What am I doing wrong? Any pointers? Thanks!
3 hours SOT is not normal for unrooted stock. I would suggest downloading GSam Battery Monitor and finding out what is hogging the battery. Note that you will need to manually enable the battery statistics permission with ADB for some reason, but after that it will work like normal.
The top two lines should be Android System and Kernel. If you see any non-system app in the vicinity, that is your likely culprit unless you can explain it with normal usage (for example, Firefox is at the top of the list on mine because I surf the web with it)
Alternately, if nothing odd shows up, you may have a bad battery.
The other thing you might take a look at is shutting off the Location setting that scans Wifi/Bluetooth. That is a massive battery killer
Thank you for the helpful responses guys! I'll try GSam Battery stuff... What are your SOTs BTW?
Thanks!
Also my vibration is always on, my back lit keys are always on, and a 30 second screen timeout time, if it helps? Thanks!
Finally, this is the AT&T model with all the bloat disabled.
I'm typically off charge 18 hours and on data the entire time. I do run a Exchange email app that pushes email, my SOT isn't really huge, maybe around 2-3 hours and I also have BT always on and connected to my S3 Frontier. At the end of my day, I end up with with battery around 50% ish.........
Did you recently update, or did you do a clean install? Sometimes the battery can take a few days to settle in

That's pretty amazing! Yes, clean install and updated from MM to Nougat and then the latest patch.
I've got a battery monitoring app installed now... Let's see what it unveils... I'm thinking maybe it's my settings, syncing and etc, cause I NEVER get the SOTs people report on XDA LOL, on any phone really except the Mate 9 I had...

Battery life is SO subjective. The app's installed and the person's usage habits play a massive part in battery life, and you saying that you never get what others are, speak a lot to that.
The built in optimizers in Nougat seem to do a pretty good job at putting unused battery sucking apps to sleep.

I notice one thing, when i connect my Gear 2 by bluetooth battery on phone less about 10-15% less. With out watch and no FB and FB messenger, NFC on, most of day on data, wifi off, 5-6 hours call ( do to nature of my job) i get around 3.5 hours SOT.

I agree bud, so I think my usage pattern must be horrible, cause from the earliest Androids like Droid Incredible to Axon 7 and S7 Edge and others, I never get what people mention. And some of their claimed usage is ridiculous, they say they play games all day, LTE, Videos and still get like 5 hours or etc... Boggles my mind. My biggest battery hog I suspect is my VPN based AdGuard, maybe the vibration, but compared to gaming and etc, they sound so insignificant.

Yeah, that's more like my usage. Without my Watch, this may be the case. I don't use NFC. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

This is a actually normal for USA SAMSUNG battery which is why no1 should get Galaxy S7 on USA carriers battery is even 100 maH smaller at 3500. Battery is always crap usa versions. And I am stuck in them nougat is bad for battery nothing you can do but downgrade to Android 6.0.1 with Odin. Best battery I can upload a vid for proof att Samsung S7 edge battery sucks and so will all USA carriers s8 never buying Samsung again GG. Switch phones best option iPhones have best battery but I hate them. I'd go for a phone with biggest mAh in specs and read reviews for battery. If downgrading doesn't work sorry for all Samsung lovers who read this it's just fact if you actually compare USA version to international. Battery on international is 92 ish hours not even close on USA version +1 sorry for my rant. Second best option I went to zero lemon and got a battery charging case that was like 10000 something maH and I never loose battery because I keep case on entire time makes phone weigh 4 pounds tho

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, bud, I think I would agree, this must be reality. An update for me, seems like getting rid of the VPN based Adblocker has helped battery. Last night, I finally got 4 hours SOT, but that was with the VPN app. Trying without it all day, let's see how it goes.
BTW, hands down, the best battery I have ever seen in the US is on the Huawei Mate 9, even on Nougat. The HUGE battery helps, but legitimately, I was getting 7 hours of SOT.
Thanks guys!
Got the attached SOT after turning off the VPN based ad blocker and using it as needed, rather than on the whole time... Is this closer to normal? ?
I only get 3-4hrs SOT but it is connected to my huawei watch and music is playing when it connects to my bluetooth fm transmitter in my car. I also usually have it plugged in while driving. The best battery life SOT I've seen is on the moto z play. My sister has that phone and she got almost 9hrs SOT. Usually gets at least 7. Someone got over 10.
