Any 5.0 roms with working encryption? - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've tried the rooted 100% stock OA8 and OC7 roms as well as several of the custom roms and on every ROM I have the same result when I try to enable the native android encryption - after the phone reboots, I get the splash screen and then it goes black (with the blue led pulsing slowly) indefinitely. Upon a forced reboot, I get an error saying that the encryption failed and I need to reset my device.
Has anyone been able to successfully enable encryption on any of the 5.0 ROMs?

Safestrap prevents encryption from working. To manually uninstall safestrap recovery use Es File Explorer to delete system/etc/safestrap and system/bin/e2fsck, then rename system/bin/e2fsck.bin to e2fsck (save these files if you wish to manually reinstall Safestrap at a later time).

Thank you!
I will give this a try.

(Q) Lost root and custom Recovery !! i9505

hi all.
I'm really struggling here and dont know what to do.
Ive been rooted and have been running EchoeRom 4.4.2 with an Alucard kernel thats been brilliant.
Last week i seemed to have lost a load of apps - which in hindsight were some that i had moved to SD card. I couldnt update the apps, reinstall or reinstall via titanium.
Long story short I used mybackup after reflashing the ROM but started getting some f/c
A factory reset didnt help so I decided to unroot and flash stock 4.3 NG8 firmware then re-root through ODIN. This is something I/ve done before - but now it wont work.
Ive tried CF Autoroot but the Superuser app says missing Binary.
If I try to get to recovery it just reboots again after 2 seconds to normal startup. I have tried just flashing CWM and TWRP recoveries both with auto reboot checked then un-checked with a battery pull about 20 times.
On 2 or 3 occasions I've had the CF red splash screen for rooting, but that seems to finish with a 'restoring stock recovery' message and i'm back to square one after it reboots.
Ive tried a different superuser app but it couldnt update the binary.
I even attempted a different rooting method with Towelroot but after accessing the APK it starts phone not supported.
Im really stumped now and have no root and no access to any recovery. If i could get to recovery Id be ok.
I dont know if ive destroyed root forever - when updating on ODIN I usually get a PASS message so i suspect something bootloader related may be overwriting the installed recovery ?
Any clues folks !!
1. Reflash android 4.4.2 GN8 firmware through ODIN
2. Download this FILE and copy it to your phone (in SDCard better)
3. Go to DOWNLOAD MODE and Flash TWRP (for example) through ODIN.
4. Remember the combination for go TWRP is a lil difficult and sometimes your phone will reboot normally. This happend to me too:
- Power off your device completely.
- Press and hold Volume Up, Home and Power buttons simultaneously.
- Release the buttons when the phone’s screen flickers or the TWRP Recovery logo blue appears.
- That is it, after you release buttons, you will be taken to the main Recovery Mode menu..
5. Install the file of the step 2 with TWRP.
6. Done
sorry for delay in responding.
I was about to follow your advice, when at random when using the phone it flashed up a message..
something along the lines of 'unauthorised activity detected - reboot phone'
I did this only to go straight into Philz recovery and since then have been able to load a backup, reflash a new rom and all seems ok.
Very strange !
Thanks for the help though.

Installing gapps on Samsung SM-A7000 (with or without rooting)

Hello everyone.
I'm trying to root/install gapps my Samsung SM-a7000 but having no luck.
After downloading the correct CF file and run odin, when i click start, the phone shows an red warning:
secure check fail: recovery
I believe its because the phone has something locked (like a locked bootloader), but i don't know if thats the case. I'm saying that because , when i recovered it(factory reset) there were some chinese stuff being installed (something like that, because of its icons).
After the red warning it displays a chinese message i don't understand and it doesn't work. What i noted is that on this message, it points to samsung.com/cn
Is there anything i can do in order to get it working properly (with root). My main goal is to install gapps then unroot, but first i need to root it
Thanks in advance.

3 different custom ROMs won't install/boot, what else?

EDIT: Reposted to a more appropriate forum.
I tried installing several different ROMs onto my cursedAT&T phone (Note 3 N900A). I managed to downgrade to Android 4.4.2 and root the phone (from the current OEM-supplied OC3). I had different results for each ROM I tried:
cm-13-20151101-UNOFFICIAL-hlte.zip - Immediately produces a "failed" message trying to install from SafeStrap 3.75 hlteatt, because my phone is hlteatt and not hlte.
MagMa_NX_UX10_Ultimate_XDA.zip - Trying to install from Safestrap: progress bar freezes at 0% done.
RR-N-v5.8.2-20170309-hlte.zip - Installs successfully, but won't boot. First try reboot just stops on a black screen. 2nd reboot gives me the menu seen when booting with Vol Up + Home held down. (Is this the AT&T's firmware "bootloader?")
I used Safestrap to perform a Wipe of everything except my MicroSD card in the ROM Slot (#1) I was using before each ROM installation attempt. Any suggestions on getting any of these working? From reading other's experiences, it appears that some are successfully using some custom ROMs with this model phone.
In this forum its not normal to use Safestrap .
Custom roms are flashed as per the roms instructions generally via TWRP .
You should ask in the forum for your model .
Thanks. I reposted there and edited the original post here to say so.
u cant flash roms on safetrap, its only for flashing custpm recovery and then u flash custom rom
You may need to wipe the data partition to let roms boot properly on first boot

I'm not sure my device is G928F Can you link me to the correct kernel? And I think the TWRP is 2.7.8 or something like that
download twrp here: https://twrp.me/samsung/samsunggalaxys6edgeplus.html
flash over odin
and choose one rom with kernel included, because you must have the correct kernel for the rom you install

Okay so tried a couple roms and they all crash like sometimes at 10 percent sometimes around 50 but they always crash and TWRP restarts. Something to do with the aroma installer roms, tried multiple different TWRP versions and nothing likes the aroma installer roms, any suggestions? Also tried multiple nougat and marshmellow roms and I get drk check failed everytime.
I used to be able to flash SuperSU zip and it would fix drk check failed but it no longer does
Can someone please give me any suggestions at all as I would like to use my phone again

Okay I've narrowed it down to system
When installing any rom it seems to crash when it gets to installing system and then TWRP reboots
I've checked that system is mounted which it is
Also it seems system is at EXT4 file system
Dunno if that's good or bad but either way every rom is crashing when it gets to installing system
Any ideas?

Can someone help please before I buy a new motherboard? Roms crash when it starts installing system
Download stock nougat, and flash it, but make sure csc is selected, and not home_csc, because csc will put phone to real stock settings.
Flash the latest stock firmware for your *correct variant*. Sammobile's downloads are kind of slow, but I've never had issues with any of their firmwares. Install that with Odin and your phone on download mode. I would recommend to use HOME CSC, just to make sure it is completely clean. After you set it up, flash your *correct variant's* TWRP via Odin. To save yourself some time, you can boot straight into TWRP when it finishes installing by pressing home + power + volume up when the screen goes out. From here you can load ROMs from a PC via USB. Good Luck and Happy Flashing!

SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 4 (dm-verity verification failed)

I’ve tried looking for solutions online, but to no avail I can’t seem to fix by myself I have recently installed LineageOS 16 , been using it for months until recently it started to slow down, and die down what i mean is the booting process takes time and after booting there is some random crashes and it reboots , I was able to solve the problem using TWRP by wiping out the cache and resetting back to factory settings, but it was taking so long to boot after and then I decided to flash it once again, started from scratch and it worked for some time until it crashed once again leaving me to unfixable bootloop, it stays on LineageOS logo, then screen dims and then just bootloops, so i decided to flash the STOCK ROM using odin which apparently worked It booted and the process was painful because every boot im doing it got slower and slower until it would be stuck at Samsung Logo and then reboots once again, so I reflashed it once again and when it booted, I was bombarded by system apps not reponsing properly, icon like ‘System UI has stopped’ and then most of the In-built app would do the same and it crashed this time, this time when it booted it is stuck to samsung logo, so i tried wiping the cache and formatting data on stock recovery and it is still stuck on boot-loop, if lucky it goes to samsung logo and just literally in that state forever, i left it for hours and it is still the same. and then when i tried booting to stock rom there was a message below that says (dm-verity verification failed), I googled it and it is a cause for tampering system files and I just couldn’t get to work it out and find a proper solution. I hope you all can help me out. Every-time i try to flash the stock rom the message is , (Installing system updates, error, goes to recovery then it has the problem below) If anyone has encountered the same problem, or has a solution I would appreciate it. Thank you.

A dm-verity (device mapper verification) is most likely related to a DRK (device root key) fail as well. Contrary to popular belief, flashing the Samsung official factory firmware does not fix all. As I'm sure you have already come to realize nite even flashing a previous nandroid backup resolves the issues.
There are many YouTube vids of fixing dm-verity but the comments are mixed. Some recommend using 4files with and additional file in the pit (partition information table) but that is also very risky and you could wind worse off than you already are.
Your best bet is to flash a "no opt encryt .zip" and follow the introductions. If this is successful you will need to flash the .zip with every no rom or you'll get dm-verity error. The .zip is not a permanent fix but more like a patch, so to speak. The link below is for general info and I can't vouch for the downloads provided from the site. Its best to download your .zips from XDA.

There is also a force encrip .zip you could look into. Good luck
Thank you. I hope this fixes my problem.. But where do I flash it through odin or TWRP??
I tried flashing the zip i got error 1

Try this, read threw the entire tread, follow the instructions. I'd alsoblike to add dm-verity and drk are some of the most difficult to solve, at least in my experience. Furthermore, I would highly recommend making a nandroid backup of all your partitions, especially EFS, boot. I'll see if I can find the no opt encrypt .zip in the meantime. I believe it was 6.0 or 6.1 .

I don't believe you'll have any success on pure stock firmware. Chances are you'll need to flash a custom kernel for your specific device and/or root package. Unfortunately, theres no one size fits all when it comes to dm-verity or drk.
