Hey guys,
just received my Galaxy S5 Duos G900FD with G900FDXXU1ANJ2 preinstalled. I'm thinking over moving to the latest official Lollipop release BOC1 but before I do that I want to backup EFS+IMEI. I manages to backup the IMEI with QPST but, unfortunately the Samsungtool App for backing up the EFS partition needs root.
I've read through a few threads, and decided to stick to the CF-Autoroot method, since I don't want to trigger KNOX. So as I understood, I have to downgrade the kernel, then root with towelroot app, and then update back to the original kernel - is that correct?
If so: where can I finde the correct files to flash for my phone? I realize this has to be done with Odin - I could only find files for the G900F, but not the FD.
Come on guys - i know that some of you have rooted the G900FD.
Use the ANF6 kernel together with towelroot. That doesn't trigger knox.
Ok that much I found out, but unfortunately I can't find the file I need. I need some file extracted of this kernel - right?
I want to root my galaxy s5 G900FD versiĆ³n without loosing my waranty ..knox 0x0 how c i do

Hi Guys
There's an OTA 5.0 update ready for my GS5. The problem is that I have root (Towelroot) and want to keep it.
From what I've been reading it looks like all root methods are either ustable of KNOX tripping.
Thanks in advance.
Same issue here
I've got a G900F - no carrier, but running on 3 in the UK anyway. When I got it, it was on Kitkat, and Towelroot wouldn't work due to the compile date being > Towelroot's ability. I downgraded the kernal as per the thread in the General section (as a note, the thread "How to root - all variants" is so far out of date, it's going to lead to people with less experience nuking their devices, perhaps we should unsticky that thread and write up a cleaner version for all the variants out there?) then rooted, and changed the kernal back to my original one.
Great - now I have a rooted, KNOX 0x0 S5 running kitkat. Now Lollipop is available and I'd like to update. So some questions on how I do this and...
1. Retain root with KNOX 0x0
2. Not trash my installed apps / configurations
I know I'll need to update via say Kies as OTA won't be available to me but if/when I update will I keep installed apps / configs? And how do I keep root without affecting KNOX?
This would, I imagine, be a common scenario and worth creating a sticky / section in an updated "How to root all variants" sticky.
Thanks everyone,
a.
Take this only as a pointer because I can't remember exactly what I read, but I think you can update to Lollipop using Mobile ODIN Pro with the Pre-Root option checked, using a stock Lollipop ROM from sammobile / XDA so long as you are already running a rooted KitKat ROM, and that doesn't flag the KNOX counter
Im new to the S5 and just gathering info myself, so make sure you check up on that yourself thoroughly first

Thanks for reminding us of Mobile Odin Pro. It's got the ability to reinject root on firmware installation and not tripping the binary counter.
Can someone confirm whether this method still works on Galaxy S5 when installing 5.0 firmware?
The last comment from Chainfire in his mobile odin thread was that it wasn't compatible yet.....but being worked on......no updates since that post.
Sent from my rooted kn0x0 SM-G900F S5
Yep, that's what I thought as well. I guess I will have to wait a bit. No big deal.
Thanks Keithross
Hi,
My cousin owns a Galaxy s4 i9505 LTE and he wanted to root it. Since i was using custom rom on my S3 i9300, He asked me to root his phone and i told him that the knox security will mess things up. Anyway i rooted it with CF Autoroot and root was successful but the phone started restaring periodically and he wanted me to restore it back to stock rom (Unroot). He bought it from UAE and the build version was I9505XXUGNH8. Since we didn't find any firmware for UAE from sammy site, he searched the google and found a link (samfirmware) and downloaded the firmware. Then i flashed it via odin. All is good.
Now he want to root it again but the SElinux status says Enforced. Tried towel root, kingoroot and other stuffs.. No hope. The Knox says 0x0 and knox void is 0x1. Android version is 4.4.2. please help me to root this phone.
Thanks in advance...
Use cf auto root. It's the only root method that works.
Afterwards make sure to delete everything knox related. There are plenty of guides out here that tell what to delete.
Thanks for the help.. and if you don't mind, can you please tell me where to find those threads about deleting knoz files and what should i do to get a custom recovery in i9505?????

I have Samsung galaxy A5, SM-A500H. Running Android 5.0.2, downloaded from here. I want to root it.
The only root available right now AFAIK, is CF-Auto-Root, as described here for example. But this root breaks everything, all the apps stop running when you reboot the phone and you have reinstall the firmware, it doesn't work.
Is there another way to root my device?

the method you suggest, is great, i always wanted to know how that's done but can't do it, since it will require me to reflash the phone and reinstall the rom
This answer is for future users
first if you want to upgrade to 5.02
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-A500H/
I use the unknown carrier but you could pick any. just create an account there first.
and to root it, the only safe way, all other ways, it will break it, so again the only safe way to root that thing
http://www.kingroot.net/
didn't work before, now is working, download the apk, root it, takes 5 min, restart your phone, have a nice day
Okay so I'm fairly new to the forums but I'm somewhat knowledgeable when it comes to rooting and flashing custom Roms.. At least one the Galaxy S3. So I now have a note 3 and I'd like to root and install a custom recovery and then from there a custom Rom after a little more research.. Because.. Eff touch Wiz. Now I got the note from a friend and it's been fully updated knox hasn't been enabled but has been fully updated and I believe the same thing for the security policies. Now this is where my question comes in I found a method on google (galaxynote3root.com) to root and install the recovery I just wanna know if anyone can confirm this method is safe with the new updates and what not? I'd rather not brick the phone obviously lol anyways the phone model is sm-n9008w unlocked but was a Rogers phone.. Android 5.0 stock firmware and recovery knox 2.3 any help would be appreciated
Which note 3 do you have? Are you sure it's not the sm-n900w8? Depending on the ROM you install, you may need to update to the latest bootloader and modem.
Edit: read your post again. Since stock LP is on the phone, Knox has been installed and the phone would be running the doc4 or doh1 firmware.
The simplest way to root would be to install TWRP and flash supersu from TWRP. You're going to trip the knox counter from 0x0 to 0x1. Also, make sure reactivation lock has not been enabled.

Hi Gele73
You don't need FlashFire to upgrade without tripping Knox. The Samsung way, using Odin, is reliable and will not void your guarantee.
These are the firmwares available for you.
You may follow these general instructions obviously regarding your device.
ALWAYS backup before starting any of these procedures.
Nice regards, good luck and mainly, have fun.

Hi Kdio,
thank you for your answer. I know how I can get the latest android version my phone and I also know how to flash it by odin but I've root and I think I will lose root if I flash the current firmware (6.01) via odin. I'm right?
The main question is how I can update to 6.01 without losing root and tripping Knox.

From this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/development/rom-ane4-kitkat-4-4-2-multi-csc-t2813628
'Starting from Android 6.0.1 there is no way to keep KNOX 0x0 in case of installation with root (by default), even if you use FlashFire! The reason is that in case of Android 5.1+ root require at least patched sepolicy in the kernel's ramdisk (that means => modified boot.img). The only way to keep KNOX 0x0 in such case is Android 5.0 -> 6.0.1 update using FlashFire with no root).'

Try ALEXANDR's for G900FD http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/development/rom-bof1-devbase-multi-csc-safe-bloat-t3145437
Solid stock based 6.0.1 ROM with root and some useful optional add-ons and mods like Xposed, camera, phone and sms apps
MM version can be flashed using FlashFire, but as already mentioned it will trip KNOX.
Remember to also flash the corresponding modem and bootloader for MM using Odin.
